2. Belt Conveyors and Elevators:-
 The word “conveyors” is derived from “convey”
meaning “To transport”.
 The word “Elevator” is derived from “Elevation”
meaning “To lift”.
 Both types are used to transport material from one
place to another.

3. Belt Conveyors:-
 A continuous moving band of fabric, rubber, or metal
used for transporting objects from one place to
another.
 It is carrying medium for conveyor system.
 A belt conveyor system consists of two or more pulleys
( referred to as drums).
 The conveyor belt rotates around the pulleys. One or
both of the pulleys are powered, moving the belt and
the material on the belt forward to the destination.

5. Types of Conveyors:-
 Horizontal Belt Conveyor.
 Incline and Decline Conveyor.
 Bucket Conveyors.
 Vibrating Conveyors.
 Vertical conveyors.
 Screw conveyors.

6. Horizontal Belt Conveyor:-
 Contains fabric or rubber belt horizontally over the
pulleys attached.
 The number of pulleys are propotional to the load
applied over it.
 The power is applied to one of the pulleys .
 For horizontal conveying e.g from machine to
machine.

7. Bucket Conveyors:-
 a conveyor consisting of an endless chain with a
series of buckets attached at regular intervals.
 It is used for moving ore, gravel, grain, or other bulk
materials.

8. Vibrating Conveyors:-
 Vibrating Conveyors have been used to transfer
granular and bulk materials. The units can be designed
to perform many functions, such as; Transfer-
Conveying .
 Transfer material by vibrating .

9. Vertical Conveyors:-
 A vertical conveyor is a machine which can be used
to move products automatically from one level to
another.
 To lift or lower load from one level to another level.

10. Screw Conveyors:-
 A screw conveyor is a conveyor that uses a rotating
helical screw blade within a tube, to move liquid or
granular materials. They are used in many bulk
handling industries.
 Screw conveyors can be operated with the flow of
material forward.

11. Benefits:-
 Transportation is easier ,faster and economical.
 We can save significant amount of money.
 General and bulk material handling.
 Belt conveyors are capable of handling a wide range of
bulk materials from very fine to large lump sizes. Very
fine materials such as portland cement are loaded at
terminals using belt conveyors.
 It is common for belt conveyors to unload ships at
capacities up to 10,000 tons per hour.

12.  Belt conveyors can be used to stock-pile or reclaim
bulk materials. Radial stackers are used for creating
large piles of materials such as wood chips, coal or ore.
Reclaim belt conveyors are located under the piles to
carry the materials into the plant for processing.
 Belt conveyors have proven to be a reliable method of
conveying bulk materials. Industry standards for the
design of belt conveyors have been developed by the
Conveyor Equipment Manufacturer’s Association
(CEMA).

application.

and these are heated , cooled
and cooked through the belt
conveyors.
• In industries the belt conveyor
has a central
role , to producing the product.

14.  Elevators are often used in industrial and
agricultural applications.
 When such mechanisms are used to elevate grain for
storage in large vertical silos, the entire structure is
called a grain elevator.
 Belt elevators are often used in docks for loading
loose materials such as coal, iron ore and grain into
the holds of bulk carriers .

15. Elevators:-
 A machine consisting of an endless belt with scoops
attached, used for raising grain to an upper storey for
storage . Stair like case.
 Scoop is a utensil resembling a spoon used for
removing dry or semi-solid substances from a
container.

16. Bucket Elevators:-
 Contains bucket for elevation called scoops.
 To transport material from one storey to another.
 Not efficient, Damage to
Belt chain, buckets and casing.
