2. When it came to addressing my audience I took inspiration from Acoustic, the
leading magazine for all acoustic music as they use the same genre of music
as me and they also use a lot of vocabulary that I feel is a very comforting
style of vocabulary when it comes to writing about artists or about different
types of guitars.
I also wanted to attract my audience in the same way as I feel the layout of
Acoustic magazines is actually very pleasing to the eye. I love the way they
lay out both their articles and the contents page as I feel they both have very
contemporary looks to them.
They’re main focus for their target audience is aimed at those who enjoy
acoustic, original sounding music which is the focus of my magazine. My
target audience are 16-25 year olds and I feel the contemporary still would be
quite attractive to them so I tried my best to display that style in my
magazine.
3. For my front cover I used a bold but relaxing
masthead in an attempt to make it so the name of the
magazine stands out but I didn’t want it to be too
bold so that it seemed too much. I used a colour
scheme of Red, black, blue, yellow and white as I
wanted some variation on the page and I didn’t want
to repeat the same colours over and over.
I tried to use vocabulary that didn’t seem messy, I
wanted it to be tidy and organised, in the same way
that acoustic music is whilst listening to it. I address
the audience directly in my footer through “all of
your” which makes the reader want to delve deeper
into the magazine at the thought of what could be
inside.
I also my feel my pug helps as it is clean and also
advertises a “Free CD inside” which I feel would help
to sway their decision.
4. On my contents page I included Social Media links as
well as a link to the website in the footer of the
contents page. A lot of my titles try to advertise a
lot of bigger artists such as Ed Sheeran and
Passenger who are both successful acoustic
artists. The images used on the contents page try
to give a sense of having no limits, the shot
angled upwards at him is to make him seem as if
he is so high up that nobody could ever bring him
down from his position whereas the second shot
is a canted angled shot showing the way he
changes people’s opinions on the acoustic genre,
and also the fact he is sat over the railing shows
the danger that can come from writing ‘original’
music. I included a closeup of an acoustic guitar
too in an attempt to also show the acoustic genre
of the magazine.
5. I used my double page spread as a way to
address the audience through what is
written in the article and also the pull
quote. I feel the quote “Busking on a
street corner hoping something would
come out of it”. I feel like the pull
quote I used contrasts very well with
the title as it shows that the hope he
had ended up helping him to chase his
dreams and finally catch them. I also
used a faded “DS” behind the text of
the article to represent the artist’s
name ‘Dom Sanders’. Once again at
the bottom of my double page spread I
have included a link to the website and
I wrote “Feel free to express your
opinion” as a way to draw the
audience into joining the website and
learning more about the magazine and
the contents involved within. I feel the
title “Endless Means of Chasing
Dreams” is great as it shows no matter
what life throws at you there is always
another way around it.
