2. Introduction
• We decided to plan a visit to Pizza Express for the
children to participate in making their own pizzas.
• This visit would also incorporate health and safety
advice for the children, to ensure they are aware of
the practice to follow when preparing food.
• The three foundation subjects we chose to follow
were PSHE, Geography, and Food Design &
Technology.
• A medium term plan was produced which details 4
lessons prior to the restaurant visit, and 1 lesson
afterwards.
3. What does Pizza Express offer for children?
Pizza Express in Camden offer one session each month
which is allocated on a Wednesday morning, and they
are very popular so booking well in advance is essential!
School visits to Pizza Express are limited to one year
group per school each year.
A timetable of the morning is provided so teachers
can plan for the visit beforehand.
4. Lesson Plan
We planned the visit for a Year 4 class
to participate in.
A lesson plan was produced to detail
the activities that would be followed
on the day, as well as the introduction
that would be needed beforehand.
Links to the National Curriculum are
noted, and are followed throughout
the medium term plan.
5. Risk Assessment
A risk assessment was produced to
ensure the safety and wellbeing of all
children at all times. It details dangers
both travelling to the restaurant, as
well as while the children are there.
6. Medium Term Plan
A medium term plan was produced to
detail 6 weeks worth of topic lessons.
PSHE, Geography, and Food D+T were
chosen as appropriate subjects that
would influence and inform the visit to
the restaurant.
Children would learn about the origins
of food and the importance of a
healthy balanced diet, before having
the opportunity to participate in
producing their own pizza, and seeing
how food is prepared.
