Title: Influencing a healthier lifestyle through gardening and
physical activities.
Problem Statement
Obesity, diabetes, and various other health issue have significantly
grown amongst American children over the past 30 years. This
program was intended to educate children from Alek Elementary
school on various health topic encouraging them to grow their own
fruits and vegetables, establish healthy eating habits, and lead a
physically active lifestyle.
Motivation
Encouraging children to be healthy, increases the probability of
them becoming healthy adults and increases their quality of life.
Methods
The children of Alek Elementary were engaged in learning
activities centered on gardening, physical fitness, and health. Oral
quizzes were administered to track the children’s retention of the
information and to reiterate and expand on key concepts. The
children were often given healthy prizes such as stuffed vegetable
toys, healthy snacks, and seeds as a reward for their engagement.
The number of participants were documented every time, as well
as their ages.
Results
The children performed well on the oral quizzes. The children
were excited to participate in the program possibly because of the
prizes they received. The number of participants in the program
significantly grew indicating the popularity of the program.
Conclusion
The program grew in popularity and was successful in educating
children on various health topics.

intellect level of the audience your
presenting to.
• Children will respond to enthusiasm with
enthusiasm.
• As time went on, more and more children
were interested in what was being taught.
• Using positive feedback to encourage
attention span is a very effective tool.

Champions for Healthy Kids
Children were engaged with exciting attitudes
about the various topics presented. Oral and paper
quizzes were given to measure level of knowledge,
and at the end of the lesson a positive feedback
method was used to reward information retention.
