2. Learning Commons
▪ The library is not a place where voices are hushed and students are
delegated to their own private work in their prospective corners.
▪ The library is welcoming and inviting place where students come and
go.
▪ The library is a bustling, and creative place where students feel
comfortable going to interact with each other, with technology, and
with online communities.
3. Collection
• There will be print sources for students without internet access to take
home. Also, digital books that students with internet can access at
anytime. Journal databases that can provide access to multiple journals
that would be economically unreasonable to buy in print.
• Software that enables students to create and interact with the curriculum
on a deeper level, allowing them to carry their education past rote
memorization.
• Hardware like iPads that students can check out to take home. Ideally
each student would receive their own laptops, perhaps a ChromeBook as
those are more economically feasible.
4. Physical Space
▪ Areas where students can work together in groups. Large tables in
the middle of the library.
▪ Shelves of books around the tables with quieter reading areas of
comfortable chairs or beanbags.
▪ A central technology area with computers and docking stations.
5. Future
▪ As technology changes and becomes more widely available ideally
my library and therefore the students would have more access to
newer and better hardware. Each student could be given their own
iPad to use both in school and at home.
▪ Students will be able to use these advances and become comfortable
with interacting with technology. They will have learned to be
creative problem-solvers who can effectively use technology to their
advantage after their school education.
