2. It is a sporodic and fatal disease of
animal and man characterized by
Fever, anorexia, encephalitis,
paralysis, excessive salivation and
abortion, endo-metritis and repeat

13. Listeriosis is a lethat zoonotic bacterial infectious
disease caused by Listeria Monocytogenes (A gram
positive bacteria)
It occurs eating contaminated food with the
bacterium world wide.
This disease affects primarily ruminants especially,
goats, sheep, cattle, horse, dog, cats, birds, newborn
babies septicemia, and adults with weakened
immune systems.
This is also enlisted as a disease
14.
15. Growth range = 30 to 113°F (-1 to 45°C)
◦Optimum = 86 to 98.6°F (30 to 37°C)
Temperatures <32F moderately inactivate LM
LM can survive freezing
LM can survive hardly at pH 4.3 to 4.5
LM can tolerate lower pH when kept at near
refrigeration Most strains of LM are unlikely to
grow in food products with pH < 5.2
LM is a facultative organism
◦Can grow under aerobic (oxygenated conditions)
◦Can grow under reduced oxygenated conditions (semi-
anaerobic)

20. Three types of the disease.
1-Encephalitis form
2-Abortion Form
3-Septicemia form
21. The most common type in all the animals
No age –no sex barrier
High rise of body temperature,
Dull and depressed, self isolation
Head pressed against wall or other objects
Unilateral mouth paralysis, drooling of saliva
Conjunctivitis,
Circling in lateral one direction, Paralysis of
the pharynx and death due to respiratory
failure.
22. Cranial nerve V (Trigeminal nerve)
Dropped jaw or asymetric jaw, facial
analgesis or anesthesia
Cranial neve VIII Vestibulocochlear nerve
Cranial nerve XII Hypoglossal nerve
Abduccent nerve VI- Strabismus is a vision
disorder in which the eyes do not properly
align with each other when looking at an
object.
dysfunction of the nerves
23. Ptosis: drooping of the upper eyelid due to
paralysis or disease, or as a congenital
condition.
menace response
A menace response is elicited by a
threatening hand gesture heading towards
the eye. An exclusively visual menace reponse
requires minimal airflow during the gesture,
and all physical contact with the patient (e.g.
whiskers and hand) must also be avoided.
24. palpebral reflex
The normal palpebral reflex consists of
complete. closure of the eyelids in response
to touching of the. eyelid skin. Afferent arm
= Sensory fibres of the trigeminal nerve.
25. In dogs similar signs of rabies like in dumb
form, pneumonia, distemper.
26. Gravid uterus is perticularly highly sensitive,
stillbirth in 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Retention of placenta.
29. A. Nervous form may be confused
with:
1. Rabies
2. Lead poisoning
3. Nervous form of Ketosis
B. Abortion may differentiated from
brucellosis and other abortion
causing diseases.
30. Chlortetracyclene @ 10-20 mg/kg
body weight for 5 – 7 days.
Pencilline @ 44000 i.u./kg body
weight for 7 days.
Sulphonamides @ 100-150 mg/kg
body weight for 3 days.
Supportive treatments includes
Electrolytes and good nursing appear
to be helpful.
31. 1. Litters and beddings of infected
animals should be carefully disposed
by burning.
2. Premises should be thoroughly
disinfected.
3. Restriction of ensilage feeding.
4. Tetracycline or chlortetracycline
may be added in feed as preventive
measure.
5. Vaccination.
