3. Introduction
• Sexually transmitted diseases are the
infections which spread through one person to
other person by Sexual contact.
• Generally infections are not causing any
symptoms that’s why it is also called as
Sexually transmitted infection.
• If, infection cause any symptoms then it is
called as STDs.
4. Assessment
• A brief sexual history,
• Education,
• A P/E if necessary,
• Possible Laboratory Testing.
• Test includes :
urine sample,
vagina/penile swab,
Cervical Culture.
5. Also Assess for Symptoms Like..
• Unusual discharge,
• Pain/burning sensation during urination,
• Genital skin changes,
• Testicular pain.
6. History Collection
• Reason for attendance,
• No. of sexual partners,
• Gender of partners,
• Types of Sex,
• Use of barrier methods,
• General medical & drug history,
• Previous history of STI or Other infection,
• History of Last menstruation,
• Hepatitis A & B Vaccination,
• Etc.
7. Physical Examination
• Assess for systematic Signs of STIs,
• Inspect external genitalia,
• Perform Perineal examination,
• Palpate the Scrotum,
• Assess for any abnormal discharge,
• Consider Anoscopy,
• Inspect mucocutaneous regions like Pharynx,
• Etc.
8. Diagnostic Test
• Blood & Urine Test for STDs,
• Swab,
• Pap smear ( for Cervical Cancer ),
• VDRL test ( for Syphilis ),
• ELISA,
• Etc.
