2. ‘Dear Darlin’ by Olly Murs
Olly Murs is sitting on his sofa looking
like he is reflecting on the past events
that recently happened in his life. This is
emphasised through the use of a
flashback. On the right hand side of the
picture Olly and his fiancée are moving
boxes into his apartment which could
mean they were moving in together. It is
clear that Olly murs is thinking about his
relationship and it is clearly shown
through the actions that are happening
behind him. The narrative genre is
represented here through the use of
flashbacks as it is a very key convention
and is used in many narrative music
videos.
3. Olly Murs is presented here writing a letter
to someone. He is trying communicate to
another person therefore the genre of
Narrative is reinforced. As he is shown
writing a letter, it may symbolise the
journey or the current state of the
relationship between him and the receiver
of the letter. He is also in the comfort of his
own home therefore the person he is
writing to may mean a lot to him because
he is using his free time to try get back in
touch with the person. Because he is
wearing comfortable clothing, the audience
can see the letter is not work related and
that the letter is extremely important to him.
Nowadays we can just use a phone to text
or call someone but because he is writing a
letter it shows that it is private and intimate.
A letter takes more time and thought.
4. The receiver of the letter is shown later in the music video and is writing
back to Olly Murs. The words ‘I miss you’ written on the sheet of paper
suggest that they have a lot of history together. When there is a lot of
history, there is a story to tell, therefore this reinforces the genre of
Narrative.
5. ‘We Can’t Stop’ by Miley Cyrus
The director is focusing on the body of Miley Cyrus
through the use of cinematography. Miley Cyrus is
sticking her bottom out whilst wearing a limited amount of
clothing. She is showing a lot of herself therefore the
genre of image is reinforced here.
6. Miley Cyrus is presented putting on lipstick which shows she
cares about her image. She is also wearing an excessive
amount of jewellery and make-up therefore the genre of the
music video is image.
7. On the left hand side a close up shot of Miley’s face has
been used, which also shows she takes a lot of pride in her
appearance. On the right hand side, she is shown dancing,
partying and sticking her bottom out. This has given her
fans the message that she is very laid back and relaxed.
8. will.i.am - Bang Bang
The use of instruments, microphones and spotlights
reinforce the genre of performance.
9. will.i.am is standing on a massive podium in the center
of the screen with backup dancers playing a range of
different instruments.
10. Old school theme incorporated into the music
video through the use of editing. This adds to
the unique performance given by will.i.am.
