Vector-borne diseases are transmitted through the bites of small organisms like mosquitoes, ticks, and sandflies. These vectors can spread serious illnesses including malaria, dengue, yellow fever, and Lyme disease. Over one million people die from vector-borne diseases every year. Simple protective measures can help prevent disease transmission such as using insect repellent, sleeping under bed nets, removing stagnant water, and wearing light-colored clothing.
