2. DELETE THIS SLIDE
• This document is set up for the for general visual
based still image production.
• This document is not exhaustive and you can add
new elements and remove elements that may not
be appropriate for your chosen product type. For
example:
– Moving image- you do not need to do layout plans but
you will need to conduct storyboard and add them to
this document
• Only slides with titles in BLUE can be deleted.
Everything else is necessary for the unit.
3. Style sheet - colours
New Aeonian:
I like these colours as I could use them in multiple ways in my project. I could use the
bright and vibrant shades to create quite a psychedelic cover which has a clear focus
on the colours, I would also use deep blacks if I was going for a vibrant image as it
intensify the colours that are already on the image. I could also use the colours to
create an image that looks much more pastel, I would use the flatter colours for this
and would then use the more vibrant colours as a way of showing light reflecting and
also to show shadows, doing this could make the image look quite different and
original, as normally the lighter less vibrant colours would be used to show light.
These colours would be great to represent an album which has a heavy focus on
chilled out soft music that could be viewed as slightly luxurious.
These colours are different to the previous 5 as these are all very pastel rather and
none of them are extremely vibrant, however these are arguably more contrasting
especially against the black. These colours would be great If I was create a rock based
cover, very similar to that of a Guns and Roses album. The black would work great as a
background and as an image border. The red and greens can work together in many
ways, they can work to show romance when used to form roses for example.
However they both also have very different connotations. Green is often seen as very
natural, which could represent a bands use of normal instruments rather than using
electronics to create the music. Whereas red is often seen as quite hellish, which
could be used as a juxtaposition to the green, this could be used to show that even
though the band uses generic instruments they use it to play very loud rock and roll
style music.
These colours are a mix of both previous selections, as they are all very pastel but
there is more focus on blues and purples, black is also not as deep. This means that
the image would be much more relaxed and give the audience the belief that the
focus is chilled. However the image could also be much more Intune to that of an 80s
new wave album as the images are again very contrasting and this could make the
image feel very dance orientated as there is lots of colour.
4. Style sheet - Fonts
This font is very bold and blocky, it
has no intention to try and mimic
hand writing. The font starts as
being very dense at the top and
slowly becomes less dense by
gradually increasing in size horizontal
lines. This allows for the font to
gradually fade into the background.
It also then helps to draw attention
to the image below it, which would
be the main focus of the overall
album cover. The font is very close
together (kerning value) with very
little space between each letter, this
is used to amplify the line effect that
runs through the font, however in
my product I would be able to
change this spacing if I wished. This
text would lose the effects of the line
however if it was on a dark
background so this is something I
would have to be wary of.
The actual text on this font is cut
out of a image that is meant to
represent a banner. This is very
effective at disconnecting the title
from everything else on the page
such as paragraphs and images.
The actual text is very square and
blocky with the tops and bottoms
of each letter being flat and also
being kept at the same height, this
makes the font very formal and
also makes it look much more like a
heading . However because the
actual text is cut out from the
banner image I would lose the
effect if the banner didn’t contrast
well with the actual image or
background colour
The font here is clearly trying to
mimic that of a neon sign, which
are normally associated with diners
from the 1950s. For this reason
this font would be much more
effective on a more vibrant image,
however could work equally as well
on a very dark image when the
main focus is the text which its self
is actually very vibrant and lit up.
The actual shape of the letters
represents what the average neon
sign looks like, this is due to it
trying to mimic the bending of
glass
This font is very similar to
CHAMPIONSHIP this is because of
them both using lines to display
depth. The centre of this font is
made up of thin lines in the middle
that vary in size in the centre. The
text also gives the effect that light
is shining on it, this is shown by the
drop shadow effect on its right
side, however this effect only
works if the font is in a dark colour
and if it is on a dark background
the effect would be lost removing
most of the value of the text.
This font is clearly meant to
represent a persons hand
writing, which it does
effectively. It is quite a fancy
font that would work
particularly well as a title for a
more retro looking piece. It
also has a separate entity
underneath it which I would
be able to change and edit in
editing software, if I
extended it I could make an
effective underline that isn’t
just a flat line. However if I
were to change the spacing
between theses letters its key
effect of looking hand written
and connected would be lost
as the joining points between
the letters would be lost.
This font is also meant to mimic
a persons handwriting, however
this one is much thicker and
more tightly packed together in
comparison to blacksword. The
font much like blacksword
however would lose its effect of
handwriting if the letters are
spaced apart too much as none
of the points of connection
would no longer connect. Due
to this font being bold it would
work well as a title as it would
stand out clearly from the image
and would be much larger than
any other body of text so will be
quickly recognised as the title of
the page. However due to it
being close together some
people may find it harder to
read.
This font is also meant to
mimic a style of handwriting
however it is much thinner
and spaced apart in
comparison to the other two
focussed on handwriting. So
again it would lose its effect if
letters were spaced too far
apart, however unlike the
others it would still look
decent as the letters are
already more spaced out.
This font is much less useful
overall however, this is due to
it not being bold enough to be
seen clearly as a title, but due
to the letters being distant it
would take too much space in
a large body of text.
5. Layout 1
With this design I plan on making it very bold.
I aim to do this by using contrasting big text
from the background. The background will be
purple, however the variation in shad will be
quite large as some areas will be dark while
some brighter due to it being overlaid onto a
vinyl, this is important as it gives the audience
information that the album has an influence
from older music. The title will be in the
Neon 80s font however I am to make it bolder
so that it stands out an is easier to read, not
massively larger though. I will also be using
effects to make it look more neon. I will make
the center of the vinyl a gradient color and
also use an old paper texture so that it keeps
the old influence aesthetic. I will then finally
add a picture of a person (probably of me as
then I do not need permission and getting the
photo will be much easier). I will then try a
range of effects to see which I prefer, this will
primarily be between a low poly effect or a
cut out filter as I have worked with both of
these effects before, however I will have to
see which works best.
6. Layout 2
On this design the focus is clearly a
close up of a person ( me ), it is highly
likely I use this picture if I go with this
design. That is because the image has
a clear contrast in light and dark which
means there is a lot of definition in the
features, there is also a range in colors,
from red to purple to blue. Using this
picture I will use a low poly effect o
that the image looks more abstract,
however I will make sure that all
features a clear and that all colors are
in the correct place ( so that the
shading stays the same ). The close up
shows who the artist is without losing
too much intrigue as not many cd
covers have close ups. The font will be
in Backsword and will use a gradient to
create a retro effect on it that contrasts
with quite a modern looking poly
effect. The text will also wrap around
to the back of the image as this creates
a use for all sides of the cover.
8. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
My files could corrupt or I could lose them. I will make sure that all my files are stored in
two locations so that if anything does corrupt I
have a spare one left over. I will also make sure
that my SD card is stored safely.
The camera could stop working I will make sure that the camera I use is stored
safely and that whenever I use it I keep its strap
around my neck.
Tripod could be broken or be missing parts I will make sure that when I collect equipment
that it works and will then make sure when I
use it that I put all parts away carefully.
Photoshop not installed on a certain computer. For this I will make sure that when producing I
have a computer that is readily available with
Photoshop and other adobe software installed.
Im ill or not able to make it into college. I would make sure that I was able to do work
from home or would come into college at
another time.
9. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
I could get eye strain and headaches from
looking at a screen for too long.
I will make sure that I have regular breaks from
looking at the computer.
I could lose energy or start eating unhealthily. I will make sure that I have breaks where I go
eat food and have proper meals. I will also keep
water at my desk.
I May get strains or aches from be sat in the
same position while working
I will make sure that I go for regular breaks
where I go for a walk or do some stretches.
