2. Why does this
resonate for
you?
Growing up going to a sheltered private high school, I
was never really informed about what mental health was
and how much it affects people. At the time, I thought
that it was something that I did not have to worry about,
but little did I know that it was. After graduating high
school and realizing how toxic the environment was to
my mental health and me as a whole, I then came to a
realization that I really needed to focus on myself more
and acknowledge my mental health more, along with my
close friends.
3. How can your
interest be applied
locally?
I would say by checking up on my good friends and
being sure to make time for them, especially if they are
in times of need or help. Especially with our lives being
affected by the pandemic, everyone is in a different state
of mind, so I would do my best to follow up with the
people I love.
4. Where can you
personally make the
greatest
contribution?
By giving someone an ear to listen to and a judgement
free space. Sometimes people have so much built up in
their minds and never have anyone to fully describe how
they truly are feeling. It can honestly take one person to
make a difference for someone else, and for me I love
being that person to listen to someone, especially if they
are need of a rant or need to just go off on something.
5. Is there a feature of
social media that
can be uniquely
applied to this
goal?
Honestly, TikTok would have to be that platform that
can help with my goal. Not only is it an app that helps
pass time really well, but it also provides both
entertaining and informational content. (Depending on
how your “for you page” is). Ever since the pandemic
and the quarantines, everyone that I knew was using
TikTok as their escape from being bored. Along with
that, there are some accounts that are run by
professionals who are able to educate users, for instance
how I am still getting educated about mental health!
