2. Why does it resonate with you?
Good health and well-being resonates with me because I have struggled with my health most of
my life. In middle school, I would get often get sick and have to miss a lot of school. In
addition, I had stomach issues due to the lack of knowledge regarding proper nutrition and food
sensitivities. In high school, I struggled to find the proper diet and exercise routine that worked
for me which often caused stress and anxiety. Over the years, through trial and error and the
extensive research I have done regarding health and wellness, I have finally found what has
worked for me! This topic is a continuation of my website that I created to help others on their
health and wellness journey. I feel that this is especially important in today's world due to the
current pandemic.
3. How can your interest be
applied locally?
My interest in educating people on proper nutrition, exercise, mental health and overall well-being can be
applied locally through word of mouth and through a website. If friends or family ever ask about a health
and/or well-being topic, I would be inclined to share my story, perspective, what I have learned and what
has worked for me. In addition, as an ASUWT Milgard Business Senator, the other Milgard Senator and I
have discovered that the University of Washington Tacoma community is struggling to incorporate health
and wellness in their lives. Before the pandemic, students would often go to the on-campus YMCA as a
health resource. Due to the pandemic, it is much harder for the UW Tacoma community to go to the UW
Tacoma YMCA. A solution that we have come up with is to create a health and wellness resource page.
This would be easy to use, accessible to all and FREE because it is online! Stay tuned, this should be
coming soon!
4. Where can you personally make
the greatest contribution?
I can personally make the greatest contribution through leading by example. Although I have found what
has generally worked for me, I am not perfect and am still learning more about how to improve my health
and well-being everyday. My goal is to show others that your health and wellness journey is constant, not a
destination. You will have highs and lows and it is important to just learn from them, grow, and always want
to improve yourself! If my family and/or friends see that I am doing well regarding my health and wellness,
they may ask how I did it or for ask for advice. In addition, regarding the possible UW Tacoma health and
wellness resource website, I could include a personal page noting my experience and knowledge.
5. Is there a feature of social media
that can be uniquely applied to
this goal?
Yes, there are a features of social media that can be uniquely applied to this goal. I could promote, educate,
and motivate the community on health and wellness through two social media platforms: Snapchat and
Instagram. Regarding Snapchat, I could share healthy recipes, workouts, and motivational quotes on my
Snapchat story. This may cause my friends and family to reach out to me with more questions about health
and wellness, so then I would be able to help them more. Regarding Instagram, I could create a new
Instagram page that promotes health and wellness. I could post about diets, workout types and specifics,
healthy meal ideas, mental health/self-care ideas, promote other health and wellness pages or resources, and
even promote the possible UW Tacoma health and wellness page!
