2. DEFINITION
The past simple, also known as the simple
past, is the verb tense used in the English
language to narrate events that occurred at
a specific moment in the past. It
corresponds in its meaning to the simple
past tense in Spanish.
3. FEATURES
Indicates the action performed at a specific time in
the past.
The main verb of the sentence is always in the past.
It has a simple composition of "subject and
predicate verb".
It is the only grammatical tense that uses verbs in
the past tense.
The predicate can be used in expressions that
determine the time of the sentence, although it will
always be the verb that indicates whether or not the
sentence is in the past tense.
4. USE
When we want to talk about an action that occurred
in the past and ended in the past and we indicate the
time at which the action occurred.
When we talk about an action that was common in
the past, like when we talk about our childhood.
To talk about events connected in a chronological
time sequence in the past.
We also use the past simple to talk about actions
that occurred and ended the past over a long period
of time.
5. KIND
Regular
When the verb is regular, the statements are
constructed using the infinitive verb and the ending
ed is added (or d if the infinitive ends in e.).
Irregular
When the verb is irregular, it changes the way it
is written.
