This document discusses several learning theories: behaviorism, constructivism, cognitivism, scaffolding theories, and how they align with the author's teaching philosophy. Behaviorism focuses on stimulus-response and consequences shaping behavior. Constructivism equates learning with creating meaning from experience. Cognitivism stresses acquiring knowledge and mental structures. Scaffolding involves teachers demonstrating problems and supporting students. The author believes behaviorism aligns most as it can manage classrooms and reinforce behaviors, while cognitivism aligns least as it is difficult for students to retain information long-term. Behaviorism will play a big role in the author's special education classroom to reward good behavior and motivate learning.
2. BEHAVIORISM
Behaviorism theory is when people learn only
by observing changes in their behavior, which
is shaped by stimulus-response .
Behaviorism focuses on the performances of
the learner to know what consequences to
used in the future.
An example of this would be when a teacher
rewards her class with extra recess for being
good all week.
3. CONSTRUCTIVISM
Constructivism theory equates
learning with creating meaning from
experience.
The theory focuses on how the mind
takes in the information and uses it in
the real world
An example of this would be students
working in small groups and
exchanging ideas.
4. COGNITIVISM
Cognitivism theories stress the acquisition of
knowledge and internal mental structures
and, as such, are closer to the rationalist end
of the epistemology.
The theory focus on the students
learning processes and address the
issues of how information is received by
the mind.
An example of this would be to have
the student to take notes in the
classroom to help retrieve the
information.
5. SCAFFOLDING
THEORIES
Scaffolding theory is where the teachers models
or demonstrate how to solve a problem and can
offer support if needed for students.
The theory focus on support and promotes the
concepts and kills for students.
Example: If a students is having trouble over an
assignment. I can help guild the student to
understand and to give feedback.
6. THEORIES THAT ALIGN MOST WITH
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
Behaviorism is the theory
that aligns most with my
teaching philosophy.
Behaviorism helps us
manage our classroom
and set positive and
negative reinforcements. It
allows us to punish or
reward students with
behaviors.
For example: If a child has
ADHD or Autistic it allows
the teacher to set up
some type of behavior
plan for them. If the child
was listening and
following instructions you
can reward the child with
a sticker or candy.
7. THEORIES
THAT ALIGN
LEAST WITH
MY TEACHING
PHILOSOPHY
• Cognitivism theory would have to be the theory
that align the least with my teaching Philosophy.
• I would have to say it would be really hard for
someone to learn and retain information for along
period. Especially when you have a short period of
time to teach a lesson.
• For example: Going back and reteaching a lesson
that you taught the first semester half of the class
will more than likely forget what you taught them.
Over a long period of time a child’s mind will
forget if they do not see it everyday.
8. THEORIES EFFECTIVE
IN THE CLASSROOM
As a future special education teacher behaviorism will
play a big role in my classroom. Behaviorism will help
me keep my classroom inline and to reward students
for showing good behavior. I believe it is very
important to have rules and a routine in class that the
students can follow.
Example: Every morning I will have the students come
in and sit down on the floor to do our calendar and
morning songs.
Example: One rule that I will establish in my classroom
would be we will keep our hands and feet to
ourselves. We will not yell, hit, or throw objects in the
classroom.
9. THEORIES EFFECTIVE IN THE
CLASSROOM (CONT.)
Behaviorism is not just for a way to
handle behavior it is also for a way to
motivate your students to learn. It allows
you to set your curriculum to meet the
students interests.
01
With the help of behaviorism it will allow
me to have control of my classroom and
it will allow the students learn from their
mistakes.

10. CONCLUSION
• This assignment has helped me
understand the different types of
learning theories. As a future teacher
it is my job to learn and understand
all the different learning styles.
Because as a teacher we know that
not all students learn and act the
same way.
