This document discusses different learning theories including behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. Behaviorism focuses on reinforcement and environmental factors that shape behavior. Constructivism believes students construct their own knowledge from experiences. Cognitivism examines mental processes like thinking and memory. The author's teaching philosophy aligns with all three theories to accommodate different learning styles. Examples of applying the theories in the classroom include using positive reinforcement in behaviorism, allowing collaboration in constructivism, and memorable elements to aid recall in cognitivism. The author plans to utilize token economies and other behaviorism strategies to establish classroom rules and procedures.
3. Behavoirism
Behaviorism focuses on the importance of the consequences of
those performances and contends that responses that are followed
by reinforcement are more likely to recur in the future.
Behaviorism is also an approach to understand the behavior of our
students. It focuses on the enviomnental factors, that can be shaped
through conditioning and interactions with the environment.
An example for behavoirisim is to asses the students behavior after
finding the best instruction for the classroom.
4. Constructivism
In the constructivism theory the students should construct their
own knowledge, this theory equates learning with creating
meaning from experience.
The student will build a connection of what they already know
and what they have previously experienced.
An example of constructivism is allowing students to
collaborate with their classmates in order fo them to take
ownership in their work.
5. Cognitivism
Cognitivism focuses on the mental activities, such as how the
students think, remember, and learn.
Connitivism also focuses on how the students know what they
know.
An example of cognitivism is giving the students something to
rememer about the lesson being taught. This can be a song, a
riddle, or even pictures.
6. Theories that Align with my teaching
Philosophy
I think that behaviorism, cognitivism, and construstivism will all
align with my teaching philosophy.
All students learn different, so I believe that in order for a
classroom to run smooth you will have to get to know each of
your students and apply these theories accordingly.
7. Theories that align with my teaching
philosophy.
When using behaviorism you will need to stress the ideas of positive and
negative reinforcement. These are effective tools of learning and
modifying behavioral issues in the classroom.
With comstructivism I want my studnets to be able to colaborate with their
classmates and bounce different beliefs and ideas off one another. This
will allow them to construct new information to their own meaning.
When using cognitivism in the classroom this will allow me to give them
new information but in a way that will open up their minds and keep them
focused.
8. Theory of utilization in the classroom
I belive that in order for a classroom to run properly the behaviorism
theory should be put into action. By me wanting to teach anywhere from pre-
K to 1st grade I will need to establish these rules the very first day.
One example will be sitting in your assigned seats and raising your hand if
you have a question.
Another example will be walking quietly in the hallway with your hands by
your sides.
I think by implementing these rules on the first day will create a learning
friendy enviornment for all of my students.
9. Theory of utilization in the classroom
One thing that I have witnessed in observations that I plan to
use in my classroom, is a behaviorism strategy called token
economy. Students are told how to earn a token, such as
listening, staying on task and raising their hand. This strategy
will differ depending on the grade level being taught. The
tokens can be stars, stickers or whatever you choose. When
the tudents reach so many tokens, they may exchange tokens
for a reward.
10. conclusion
This assignment has allowed me to go in depth and receive a
better understanding about the different types of teachhing. As
a future educator I plan to utilize all of these strategies in my
classroom.
