This is my presentation about my inspiration for my video. I have explained some of the main reasons behind my inspiration to create a video based around the theme of depression. I have also added in where I got inspiration from other special music videos such as 'Fire in the booth' videos.

2. James Arthur
James Arthur is a well known music star within the music
industry. This is mainly because of his appearance which he
made on X Factor and won in 2012. From there, he
flourished and became a popular music artist of which he
is today. He is a British singer and musician who focuses his
work around a pop/ rock genre. His new single was a huge
hot from the final of the X Factor and went straight to
number one in the UK singles chart. He sold over 1.5
million copies of the single in the UK and over 2.5 million
copies worldwide. I think this was particularly key to the
expansion of his career because it enabled him to gain UK
fans aswell as international fans.

3. Personal
From a personal perspective, I have a strong liking to the
music of James Arthur. This was one of the main aspects
which made me decide on a song to use for my video. I
particularly like his music because of the originality of his
voice and style. Initially, I decided on using a grime song by
Devlin. However, I altered it to ‘Recovery’ by James Arthur
simply because I thought that I had a better idea for this
type of video. I also found that I took more of a liking to
this song which would allow me to enjoy the production
and creating of the video more.

4. ‘Fire in the booth’
In my research into grime music videos (initial idea) I found
some interesting freestyle videos also known as ‘Fire in the
booth’. This is where rap/hip hop artists freestyle lyrics in a
live studio. A video is created along with the freestyle and
they're a large number of grime ad rap artists which have
featured in these videos. I was particularly inspired by this
and it allowed me to decide on using a similar concept
within my final music video. I would use close ups of the
actor lip syncing into the microphone to show the emotion
of the actors face which would give the viewer more of a
understanding of the mood.

6. Characteristics of depression
In the modern world, I have found that depression is a state of
mind where by you see everything in a negative light.
Depression affects people in different ways. For example, it can
cause anxiety, frustration and paranoia for some, however it can
affect others in extreme ways such as suicidal thoughts.
Depression can occur over weeks and months depending upon
the severity. It is completely different to feeling down for a few
days, and can be caused by a number of different elements. This
can be a series of events which go against someone. Bullying,
abuse and

People that suffer from

to relate themselves to
my video. Also, using

create a heavily defined
target audience which
will enable me to use
specific conventions to
make a successful music
video.

8. How did depression attract me
I am currently living in a world in which depression is a fairly big issue
which people go through. I read newspapers, online articles and books
about depression. I believe that some of the stories shared by others
in newspapers are outrageous. Some cases of severe depression lead
to unplanned outcomes that can be fatal. I think this is a serious issue
which is affecting a number of people that should be addressed. I also
have had a personal experience of depression at a young age. This was
an awful time for me.
Because of these reasons, I have decided to use a video which is based
around this theme. In particular, I think the personal experience and
the passion I have about the subject matter will enable me to illustrate
a clear understanding of what it is like.
