2. Age range and Genre
I am going to be aiming my music video at those aged around sixteen to twenty.
Of course, anyone who enjoys the genre of music, being indie pop and R&B is
welcome, however, my main focus is to cater for those in this age range.
Focussing on things teenagers into this style will like and enjoy watching, etc.
My chosen song is ‘Thinking of you’, by Mabel Mcvey. She is a British, R&B singer.
Her style is very urban and indie, which I like, and feel as though I can take as
inspiration for my own video, choosing someone with this style, and who fits the
description.
Those who are in this age range are most likely going to be on social media
platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter. I will use this
knowledge whilst I create my digipak and poster, by advertising the artist through
these platforms.
Teenagers are also more likely to be familiar with using the internet, therefore on
posters for the Artist’s album, I can add her website, encouraging teenagers to go
onto the site.
3. Stereotypical style of audience
Although anyone who pleases can listen to indie pop and r&b music, there can
be a slight stereotype to the typical listener of this genre of music, from gender
to style.
For example, Listeners of Mabel are predominantly female. The reason for this is
because Mabel’s music is very ‘love’ based, and her songs feature relatable
situations for females. The artist I am creating through inspiration of Mabel, is
similar, therefore I feel would attract more females than Males.
The style of a typical listener may be quite urban and unique.
They may also be into rap, therefore when it comes to creating an album, the
track list may include songs with rappers as a feature, drawing in more of a
wider audience, such as males as well as females.
4. How do my target audience access music
videos?
smartphone through tv programmes tablet other
These results suggest television
programmes such as MTV are
becoming less popular due to the
latest technology.
I asked ten teenagers how they
access music videos, whether it be
on their phone, through tv
programmes such as MTV, etc.
Here are my results.
It is very clear to see how
teenagers these days are
accessing music videos.
Through their smartphones.
