Jean-Jacques Degroof also has organized a Global Startup
Lab through the MIT International Science and
Technology Initiatives (MISTI) program.
Established 18 years ago, the Global Startup Lab program
allows top undergraduate and graduate students from
MIT to travel around the world and teach
entrepreneurship. The program initially started in Kenya
and has since expanded to a diverse array of countries,
from Brazil and Mexico to Rwanda and South Africa.

• The program benefits not only up-and-coming
entrepreneurs in various countries, but also MIT
students, who learn by teaching. The MIT students
network with investors and mentor their counterparts,
including training in mobile application development,
to help them make their innovative ideas a reality. So
far, the Global Startup Lab program has started 68
programs across 22 countries and helped hundreds of
entrepreneurs develop an understanding of what it
takes to bring their ideas to fruition.
