2. Rifampicin
• It was isolated from Streptomyces
mediterranei in 1957 and 7 rifamycin
developed ( A,B,C,D,E,S,SV).
• They are mainly useful in treating
Tuberculosis.
3. Mode of action
• It is a group of macrocyclic antibiotics which
inhibits DNA dependent RNA polymerase.
• Mammals arent affected because it binds to
peptide chain of bacteria.
