1. Question 1: In what way does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media product uses, develops and challenges forms of real media products in many different ways.
The plot of our feature film, Snitch, was established by creating 2 main protagonists, called Flash and
Inferno. These two characters are young adults, who had a rough upbringing from the start of their
childhood, where they were brought into the life of crime. This contributes to the storyline and genre of
the film, which is crime.
We have a linear narrative and as such, can sort the scenes into chronological order for better editing.
The genre of Crime in the film is portrayed in many different ways throughout the film. An example of this
would be the use of a CCTV camera style effect to suggest that the two were being recorded doing their
wrongdoings.
We used specific shots in the film to make it challenge the forms and conventions of real media products,
such as the lower level shots and eyeline match shots that make the film unique.
We also utilized mise-en-scene in the film. This allowed us to connote the theme of genre even further,
by using Inferno’s red coat as a marker of danger and to suggest crime, and Flash’s black coat to connote
crime and intrigue aswell. (see image 1)
The typography that we used in the film for our titles was mainly large and bulky, to make it stand out for
the viewer to read. This was achieved by making the font size large (40), and making one scene of the
title stretch to fit a portion of the wall in the opening scene (see image 2) so the viewer can see it.
