Editor's Notes
Community; the ability to mingle with and learn from a group of peers
Networking: through various events, blogs, websites
Opportunities for research: allow educators the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research in education, present their own findings, and gain access to specific research journals they might not have access to otherwise.
Access to specific grants, fellowships, and awards: A major perk of professional organizations is the access educators get to grants, fellowships, and awards that simply provide more funding for better teaching methods and other education-related research.
Professional Learning;
There are several professional organizations to choose from
I was able to read several blogs to aid in teaching with technology for special needs students. Blogs entitled: How special education technology improves learning
30+ Tools for Diverse Learners, and How special education technology improves learning. I found the blogs very informative. One of the blogs mentioned how adaptive technology was first utilized with students with special needs. Addressing adaptive technology and it’s uses for students with disabilities is imperative.
I listened to ISTE Learning Unleashed Podcasts entitled Using Technology for Bold, Unapologetic, Social Good which provided insight as to how to use technology more effectively in your classroom. I found the podcast to be a very helpful resource because it was both informative and portable. I could listen to the podcast while doing something else or while enroute. The podcasts information is beneficial for all types of learners and educators.
