Despite being publicly accessible open spaces cemetery grounds are under-utilized by the public. 2. Cemeteries low social value is proven by the unaffected or lowered abutting property values. 3. Above Ground Below Ground Cremation Unsustainable Wasteful Rarely Preference Burials consume 1,300 acres annually in the US. Burials consume 45,360 miles of hardwood boards, 58,500 tons of steel, 1.5 million tons of concrete, 818,933 gallons of formaldehyde, and produce immeasurable CO2 360,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. Equivalent to burning 30 gallons of gasoline per cremation.
