This document provides a summary of components and issues related to a green corridor project, including:
1) Road network issues like high volume/capacity ratios, congestion, and encroachment at certain areas.
2) Five major accident spots along the roads.
3) Inadequate parking space and unregulated on-street parking.
4) Lack of dedicated pedestrian infrastructure like signals and footpaths.
5) Street lighting and landscaping needs improvement with advertisements obstructing trees.

Components
Sub Components Issue and Findings
1 Road Network and Design Road Cross Section • Three different road cross sections i.e. 7m, 17m and 26m.
• Road design failure due to encroachment and lack of maintenance.
• A large number of vehicle influence due presence of residential cum commercial areas including car
showrooms, automobile repairing and marble tile shops. Also, Presence of Major Schools and College i.e. Don
Bosco, May Flower and St. Xavier. A major influence occurred due to CRPF headquarters, Police Bhawan and
ICAR which is research center for Eastern Region.
Volume Capacity Ratio • V/C Ratio are 1.9, 2.84 and 1.02.
• V/C Ratio is above 1 of the stretch means road has beyond its full capacity.
Congestion • Congestion Index are 4.9%, 12.8% and 12.16% means slower speed on road, longer trips, longer vehicular
queuing which also contributes in vehicular pollution.
Encroachment • Encroachment Index are 45%,13.33% and 13 %.
• Encroachment occurs due to presence of small vendors , cycle-rickshaw stand and on-street parking.
• Ramnagri More is the most encroached area due to presence of informal markets.
Level of Service • Level of Service is in E category means Vehicular flow is unstable and there are stoppages in movement durations.
Operating speed up to 45 kmph.
2 Accidents • There are 5 major accident spots.
• Accident occur at Jay Prakash More due to the blind curve which change the road width from 26 m to 7 m.
• Accidents occur especially along Ashiana Road and Digha Main Road where roads meet National Highway 30.
3 Parking Space • There are 4 on street parking and 11 off street parking.
• Total parking units required is 144 ECS.
• Most of the commercial areas don’t provide parking space. Hence, vehicles are parked on road obstructing road
traffic. This result in traffic bottlenecks especially in peak hours causing economic loss.
• There is no provision for parking area for markets and no charges are taken for the parking.
4 Traffic Signs and Signages Traffic Signal • There are two traffic signals with the height of 4.8 m for the traffic movement with absence of pedestrian traffic
signal.
Traffic Signs • There is no dedicated footpath or zebra crossing for the pedestrian.
• There is one warning sign at signal and informatory sign such road names are available for movement of
vehicle or pedestrian.
5 Landscape Street Lights • The street lights were placed at a distance of 6 m on median and in ROW 7m alternate 6m distance.
Plantations • There are two main trees are present i.e.Polyalthea longifolia commonly known as Ashok and Ficus Sp
commonly known as Peepal, Bagad, Pakur, etc. These trees are found in Indo-Gangatic Plains.
• Total number of plantations is 38.
• Trees are placed at distance of 3m and height minimum 4m.
• Presence of large advertisement boards.
