INTRODUCTION
Having so much signals flying around exclusive environment like the airplanes, class rooms,
presidential lodges etc. has contributed to some of the mishaps that occurred in time past. These
signals may have been used to trigger bombs and cause interferences to aviation equipment etc.
In this thesis, the focus is on introducing an advanced signal disrupting device which blocks
transmission signals by creating interferences to undedicated signal frequencies. This wireless
signal jammer can be categorized into the Radio Frequency (RF) jammer and GSM jammer.
A Radio Frequency jammer is a device used to disrupt or prevent communication, it is an RF and
GSM frequency disrupter commonly known as wideband radio frequency (RF) and GSM cell
phone jammer. Simultaneously, they can block all commercial FM broadcast band (87.5 MHz to
108 MHz) and GSM signal transmissions within the jammer's transmission range. The device
can possibly block these frequencies by transmitting a dirty signal (like noise) on the same
frequency at which the GSM and radio system operates. This proposed system would have
successfully done a good job when the radio sets frequencies in a geographical area are disabled.
The choice of mobile jammers are based on the required range starting with the personal pocket
mobile jammer that can be carried along with you to ensure undisrupted meeting with your client
or a personal portable mobile jammer for your room or medium power mobile jammer or high
power mobile jammer for your organization to very highpower military jammers to jam a large
campuses.
FIELD AND SUBJECT AREA OF STUDY
The field of study of this project is in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the area of
study is communication systems.
THE STUDY OBJECTIVES
 Generalobjective
The main objective of study is to design and construct an advanced signal disrupting device with
LCD display for security application.
 Specific objectives
The specific objectives of this project are:
 To integrate an LCD display into the circuit
 To construct a wireless signal jammer for security application’s circuit.
 To block amplitude modulated and frequency modulated signal transmission by creating
interference within its range.
 To design Radio Frequency (RF), Intermediate Frequency (IF) and Power Supply circuit.
 To integrate an antenna into the system for IF/RF signal transmission.
 Construction, System testing, analysis and implementation of the entire system.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
In communication and security corporations where classified files and information are highly
protected and stored; files and information which could also be accessed through wireless signals
by unauthorized personnel. The signal jammer is such that will disrupt any externally interfering
signal, making it impossible for these files to be accessed. Also modern technology has
contributed to the sophistication of bombs which are being triggered by GSM and Radio signals.
The signal jammer when activated can prevent unauthorized triggering and detonation of these
bombs.
Wireless signal disruptor (jammer) can be placed in schools, conference halls, meeting rooms,
and libraries etc.; where files and information are discreetly accessed.
METHODOLOGY
The methods for the design are as follows;
 Listing of the various components of the advanced signal disrupting device.
 Specification of the electronic components, their functions and properties.
 Display of the circuit and block diagram of the hardware interconnections of the advanced
signal disrupting device.
 Description and design of an advanced signal disruptor systems.
 Determination of the possible ways of interfacing the LCD/transistors/diodes with the
microcontroller.

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROJECT
Communication jamming devices were first developed and used by military. This interest comes
from the fundamental area of denying the successful transport of the information from the sender
to the receiver. During World War II, ground radio operators would attempt to mislead pilots by
false instructions in their own language, in what was more precisely a spoofing attack than
jamming. Radar jamming is also important to disrupt use of radar used to guide an enemy's
missiles or aircraft.
Modern secure communication techniques use such methods as spectrum modulation to resist
the deleterious effects of jamming. Jamming of foreign radio broadcast stations has often been
used in wartime (and during periods of tense international relations) to prevent or deter citizens
from listening to broadcasts from enemy countries. However such jamming is usually of limited
effectiveness because the affected stations usually change frequencies, put on additional
frequencies and/or increase transmission power.
Jamming has also occasionally been used by the governments of Germany (during World War
II),Israel, Cuba, Iraq, Iran(Iraq and Iran war, 1980–1988), China, North and South Korea and
several Latin American countries, as well as by Ireland against pirate radio stations such
as Radio Nova. The United Kingdom government used two coordinated, separately located
transmitters to jam the offshore radio ship, Radio North Sea International off the coast of Britain
in 1970.
Nowadays the signal disrupting devices are becoming civilian products rather than electronic
warfare devices, since with the increasing number of the mobile phone users the need to disable
mobile phones in specific places where the ringing of cell phone would be disruptive has
increased. These places may include religious centers, university lecture/examination rooms,
libraries, concert halls, meeting rooms, and other places where silence is much appreciated or
needed.
However, after comparing and contrasting the deficiencies of earlier design such as;
unreliability, short life spans, inefficiency, waste of power, loss of energy, complexity, difficulty
in maintenance, Bulkiness in size, high cost of implementation and maintenance. Upon the
aforementioned, I have decided to design and construct a an advanced signal disrupting device
with the following merits;
 Disrupt all wireless signals within its range.
 Display its operational status on the liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor,
 Less energy consuming and contain an alternative power source(both AC and DC).
EXPECTED OUTCOME AND POSSIBLE USAGE
After the design of the advanced signal disrupting device, the device should be able to disrupt/
block/jam any wireless signal (GSM and radio signal) within its range. As other part of the
design’s features, the device should also be able to display its functional status on the LCD
screen.
SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMIC ASPECTS
 Safetyfactors
The advanced signal disrupting device is designed to be powered by both AC and DC at
specified rates. However, voltages or currents above the specification will affect the system.
Appropriate safety measures will be taking in order to prevent damage to the device and
electrocution of any sort which may be caused by overvoltage due to lightning. It is designed in
such a way that the safety of the user is not compromised.
 Environmental and economic factor:
The usage of this system has no environmentally hazardous properties. Its components are such
that does not contain harmful substances.
The system releases a signal which only disrupt wireless signal and has no harmful effect on the
environment. In addition to the economic factors, the components of this design are affordable
and are available in the market. These components are low-energy consumers and are cost
effective.

However, after comparing and contrasting the deficiencies of earlier design such as; unreliability, short life spans, inefficiency, waste of power, loss of energy, complexity, difficulty in maintenance, Bulkiness in size, high cost of implementation and maintenance. Upon the aforementioned, I have decided to design and construct a an advanced signal disrupting device with the following merits;  Disrupt all wireless signals within its range.  Display its operational status on the liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor,  Less energy consuming and contain an alternative power source(both AC and DC). EXPECTED OUTCOME AND POSSIBLE USAGE After the design of the advanced signal disrupting device, the device should be able to disrupt/ block/jam any wireless signal (GSM and radio signal) within its range. As other part of the design’s features, the device should also be able to display its functional status on the LCD screen. SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMIC ASPECTS  Safetyfactors The advanced signal disrupting device is designed to be powered by both AC and DC at specified rates. However, voltages or currents above the specification will affect the system. Appropriate safety measures will be taking in order to prevent damage to the device and electrocution of any sort which may be caused by overvoltage due to lightning. It is designed in such a way that the safety of the user is not compromised.
  • 9.  Environmental and economic factor: The usage of this system has no environmentally hazardous properties. Its components are such that does not contain harmful substances. The system releases a signal which only disrupt wireless signal and has no harmful effect on the environment. In addition to the economic factors, the components of this design are affordable and are available in the market. These components are low-energy consumers and are cost effective.
