2. WHAT IS A PERSONAL INTERVIEW?
An interview conducted face-to-face with the
respondent is called a Personal Interview.
Can it be prepared? The answer to the question is
‘Yes’ it can be. If we analyse the interview
questions asked in the past, we can definitely
chalk out a plan for the preparation of Personal
Interview. There may be 2-3 questions which
would be a bit out of the scope of your
preparation, but the rest can be taken care of.

3. Personal Interview
In fact, the same questions which are
differently phrased, tend to crop over and over
again. Certain questions like- talk about
yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, your
hobbies, why should you be chosen are bound
to repeat time and again.
You should have brief overview as how to drive
these questions based on your self-analysis.

The document here is based on the past
experiences of IIM Rohtak final converts and to
help you in the best manner to get a brief overview
about the type of questions asked by the interview
panel.
However the answer to these questions may vary
on an individual basis, so aspirants are required to
prepare the answers to best of their knowledge

Tell me about yourself? Or Introduce yourself? Or
Take us through your resume?
 Tell us about your 3 best qualities? Or What are
your strengths?
 What are your weaknesses? Give instances.
 Tell us about an incident from your past where you
failed? Or what is the biggest failure of your life?
 What are your long term and short term goals? Or
where do you see yourself 10 years from now?


7. QUESTIONS ABOUT SELF
What are your hobbies and interests?
 Talk about your native place or your current city.
 Details about your family background
 Questions about extra-curricular activities
undertaken by you
 Pick instances which showcase your leadership
qualities & teamwork.
 Your favourite politician, activist, actor, actress,
singer etc.(Further questions on them)


8. WHY MBA?
Here you might be asked to relate your past
education/ work experience with MBA and its
usefulness for your future
 If you are a fresher, you might be asked about your
graduation specialization and its use while doing
MBA
 Which specialization would you choose in MBA?
Why? Why not M.tech or M.S or any other PG
course aligned with your graduation field?
 Why are you leaving your job and doing MBA? Why
not Executive MBA?


9. ACADEMICS





If you are a fresher, expect an interview centered around
academics. Be thorough with the different laws,
theories, definitions that you studied. Focus would be
more on the subject you name as your favourite.
What was your final year project
Details about the internship done, if any during
graduation
In case of work ex candidates, your favourite subjects
during graduation? Questions based on those subjects?
Prepare atleast two subjects thoroughly.
Details about national level competitions like paper
presentations, quizzes you took part in.

10. PAST WORK EXPERIENCE





Tell us about the firms you worked for.
Tell us about the projects you worked on. Also further questions
aligned to it.
Questions based on the tools and technologies you worked on
in case of IT professionals
If you have changed your job/ organisation/domain, the reason
for the same. Also further questions aligned to it
If there is any gap between education and job, reasons
explaining it

 Name a few companies from ITeS
 Do you know about DBMS?

11. POLITICAL AND SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT
(CURRENT AFFAIRS)
Questions based on current political situation in
India
 Name the Chief Minister/Governor of a particular
state.
 Name of any minister from the PM’s cabinet of
ministers based on portfolio handled. Ex. Who is
the current home minister/agriculture minister?
 Characteristics that you want in our future Prime
Minister.


Your view about Narendra Modi/ Arvind Kejriwal etc.
Who is Arundhati Roy and subsequent questions related
to naxalisim?

founder of which MBA institute in India?
What is Euro zone crisis?
How is the exchange rate of India getting affected?
Terrorists and CRPF in Kashmir

What is a glass ceiling?
What is the reason of inflation?
What are the products that India exports?
What is today’s headlines?
Details about the decisions made by Raghuram Rajan
and their implications.
Who is your favourite political leader and why?
Questions about literacy in India.
In India, corruption is a huge problem. Provide solution
for it.
Other relevant general awareness questions .

14. ANALYTICAL QUESTIONS
Certain puzzles can be asked to check your
logical reasoning
 A case or situation may be given and you
might be asked to provide a solution.
 You might be asked to pick between choices
giving relevant reasons for your decision
 Example: What is the colour of the wall
behind you?


15. ANALYTICAL QUESTIONS







If selected by all new IIMs, then which one are you likely to
join?
In case you get an admission call from any new IIM while
you are awaiting a call from IIM Indore, what will you do?
Why did you apply only for IIMs and not for any other
reputed private colleges (if that’s the case)
If not MBA, then what is your plan-B?
Which new IIM do you prefer? (Needs a prior analysis)
If you are the CEO of your dream company, what would you
improve?
Point out 4 major problems in the society and how will you
solve them?

16. MISCELLANEOUS QUESTIONS
What is GDP and GNP. Difference between the
two?
 What are WPI and CPI? Current values of both.
 Name any 5 female CEOs.
 How does diversity in MBA help?
 Functions of SEBI.


17. MISCELLANEOUS QUESTIONS
In Telecom, there are terms like 2G-3G-4G so
what’s the meaning of G? What’s the difference
between 2G-3G etc? What’s 4G? Which
Companies in India provides 4G?
 What are AICTE, UGC, and NAAC? Why are there
3 different bodies for the same type of work?
 What is NAV, Debt-equity ratio, CRR, repo rate,
reverse repo rate, SLR etc.
 Capital of various countries all over the world
 4Ps of Marketing
 Questions on Union budget, RBI policies etc

