Project Title The Bricks – Final Project
Section 1: Review (Approx. 100 words)
At the beginning of this course I had already had information on media but, not on
how the media industry works. So from the beginning I was wanting to find out and
explore how the actual media industry works and how you can get into the media
industry. The skills I have acquired from the beginning of the course are things such
as, further editing on software’s such Adobe Photoshop, Audition, InDesign and
final cut pro, which we have stopped using to develop and edit footage. This year I
had learned how use the overlay and effects on different layers of images on
Photoshop. On premier pro, I wasn’t really used to this software, so this is
somewhere that I need to develop my skills using and practicing on this software. I
also believe I need to improve my skills with using the software of InDesign, as I find
it hard to use this software.
Section 2: Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
In my project I would like to create a documentary that focuses on the area of
Brick Lane. I will be mainly looking at the fashion and art and how the area
has changed. The name of my documentary will be called “The Bricks”- used
a shorter name for Brick Lane. I will try and keep my documentary to around
5 minutes and for this project, I will need to book things such a camera,
camera tripod and a microphone. Most of my filming will be done using a
handheld camera and I will be using the microphone to record some
interviews that I do, as I have already interviewed some people and I plan to
use some of these recordings in my documentary. I will also look at the
question of, “are mainstream stores stealing the customers of actual vintage
stores” and possibly if Brick Lane is becoming gentrified. I will also speak on
some of the history of Brick Lane, using archive footage, talking about the
history of settlements from brick lane being Jewish and Bengali. I may also
consider talking about how the area was once a big part of the national front
and the riots that had taken place there.
Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
2. For my documentary I plan to experiment with the types of documentary I can
use. I do not plan to stick to a certain type of documenting style, I would like
to attempt to be free with how I document. Depending on how my filming
goes my project could change its focus, as the whole of Brick Lane, has a
whole lot to focus from the history to the present time.

2 27/03/17 Further research on brick lane looking
more into the fashion side of brick lane
and vintage stores.
Looking at images from the internet on
google images and from past
experience of going to brick lane
myself.
Easter During this half term I had visited brick
lane and taken pictures and I had asked
stores workers/owners and tourist
questions about the area.
I will need my phone and a note pad and
pen to record and write down the
questions I will be asking.
3 17/04/17 Upload all recordings and all pictures
taken from my visit in the half term.
To complete this I will need the internet
to upload all this information to my
blog.
4 24/04/17 Researching other documentaries –
looking at documentaries on television.
Had watched a documentary on
Freemasons – technique of interviewee
speaking about something then camera
cutting to what they are talking about
I just needed the television for this as, it
was a show that was shown on
television.
5 01/05/17 I am beginning to plan out the opening of
my documentary – how the beginning
will start – what camera shots
Looking at other documentaries – how
they set their agenda or what kind of
camera shots they use
6 08/05/17 Put my filming that I had done on the
weekend on my computer and begin
putting the filming into sections, so that I
am able construction the order of my
documentary
I need a computer to put the files that i
have vocally recorded or visually
recorded on to a computer.
7 15/05/17 Look for music that is able to fit with the
atmosphere or vibe of the whole
documentary.
For this I will need to use a computer
and locate music that is download and
free and is copyright free.
8 22/05/17 At this point I should have a full
construction of my documentary and
should be aiming to gain some feedback
on the project
I will need a computer or a piece of
paper to record what people have said
about my project.
3. Half-
Term
If needed I should try and tweak anything
that I have heard from my feedback.
I could need a camera or an editing
software for doing this.
