Editor's Notes
Welcome to the first in a series of recordings.
This series has been created to provide you with assignment support for the module ACC1009 - the accountant in business.
The first terms assignment is a corporate governance review.
There are 6 parts to the series and these have been split into separate recording to aim to supporting you when you are progressing through and completing your assignment.
The parts are shown here and are in the order in which you are encouraged to complete your document.
Note that the introduction and abstract section are to be completed last even though these are the first two sections the read will see.
The assignment title is : Corporate Governance review with an expected 2400 word count.
The deadline is Friday 14th December however I would encourage early submission to avoid the risk of not submitting.
The full assignment brief is available on the NILE site and you are encouraged to refer to this document during the whole process.
You are to pick ONE of the companies listed in the assignment brief.
Note that an abstract and reference list are also required but are not included in the word count.
Again, remember you can access the assignment brief through the NILE site.
This table is available in the assignment brief document which details a word count guide for each section.
Each individual heading should be featured in your assignment with additional subheadings. You are encouraged to present your work to include a cover and content page using the functions in Microsoft Word, also consider including tables and graphs to support your statistical content. These images can be obtained from the Annual Financial Reports for your researched company.
You will also see included in the assignment brief the marking rubric.
Again reflect on this Rubric thorough your time preparing your assignment work to ensure that you understand the quality of work required to gain a good grade.
As this is an academic piece of submitted work you are expected to write as an academic.
Use the PEEL approach (Point, Evidence, evaluate and link) to construct paragraphs.
Also consider that each paragraph is consistently five to seven sentences long.
To avoid falling into the risk of academic misconduct, on NILE there is a plagiarism checker.
Access the module through NILE and the plagiarism checker is shown on the left-hand side toolbar.
You can use this function as many times as you wish.
Submit your draft work and a similarly report will be available for you to view giving you the advantage to revise your work should you need to.
Note that this is not the live submission point and work that is submitted through this function will not be marked.
Finally, the information here is purely for you as a student to benefit from receiving useful support.
I would encourage every student to book a 10-minute appointment through the drop-in option to enable you to improve on the work that they have created, in particular seeking support to confirm you are referencing correctly.
The next part of the series will cover overview, this being the first section of the assignment I would encourage you to commence with.
