The Causes Of Poverty
Poverty is not having enough money to meet basic needs including food, clothing and shelter. There is no one cause of poverty, it has many facets.
Many social scientists and political analyst believe that it is in part due to the large population as the larger the population the harder it is to eradicate
poverty as several people compete for basic needs and opportunities. Some argue that it can also be attributed to lack of economic freedom or economic
liberalization as they argue that extending property rights protection to the poor is one of the most important poverty reduction strategies a nation can
implement. Another aspect of poverty, is the lack of strong governance and corruption. Inefficient government discourages foreign investors from
opening a business. For instance, in Brazil it takes 86 days to get a business permit compared to 2 days in Canada. Moreover, corrupt officials often
pockets the aid and the money intended to help the poor through education and hospitalization or by providing infrastructures needed to grow the
economy.
We may try to ignore poverty if we are well–off, however we still pay the price of poverty. For instance, it increases the cost on the health system, the
justice system and other systems that provide support to those living in poverty ultimately impacting the economy and taxpayers indirectly.
Additionally, poverty breeds other social injustices such as shorter life expectancy, infant mortality, teenage birth, low literacy rate,

Causes Of Poverty In Education
Why do some kids not have the ability to go to a free public school? Why do some children not go to school at all? There are multiple reasons but
one of the reasons that causes this issue is poverty. Poverty is not just a problem in America, it's a problem all over the globe. "In Asia, some 74
million of the world's total 132 million children . . . are not enrolled in primary education" (Bawane and Julius, 2011). In Bawane and Julius's studies
they also found that there were a little over 72 million kids not currently enrolled in school in 2007. Poverty is an increasing issue all across the planet
which is harmful to the minds of young children and can hurt their education. Bawane and Julius stated that poverty is not simply the absence of
financial resources, it is also lack of capability to function effectively in society.
Poverty is an increasing problem is our country and sometimes the meals children eat at school will be their only meal of the day. Poverty affects our
schools and how students learn by hurting their grades, making them less likely to concentrate, and creating a negative childhood experience. Poverty
stricken schools often have worse grades than school that have a lower poverty rate. Students who are hungry are least likely to pay attention and be
able to focus. Wages says that "more than one–third of low–income students begin kindergarten not ready for school" which impacts their grades, how
they learn compared to other students, and whether or not that child will be held back or not. Some schools in low poverty areas even often have
free breakfast for all of their students to help be able to provide their meals and it has been proven that schools that provide that free breakfast have
higher test grades. When students are hungry, stressed, or worried it is harder for students to focus and pay attention to the subject they're supposed
to be learning, therefore causing bad test grades. When children are from poverty stricken homes, they are more likely to live stressful lives. Nocera
wrote about a speech given by Dr. Pamela Cantor and she said, "if children are under stress, the ways they respond are remarkably similar". When
children are stressed it affects their daily lives and how

Causes And Effects Of Poverty
Poverty touches many lives in both the United States and all over the world. People associate poverty with shortages or pauperism. Some individuals
ignore the fact that poverty is a major problem in the world. While there are many causes and effects of poverty, such as ethnicity and crime, there are
three important causes and effects that impact individuals and their families every day. Three important causes of poverty include lack of education,
drug addiction, and standards of living while three effects of poverty include death, minimum wage jobs to no jobs, and imprisonment.
Poverty exists for many reasons, but three important causes are a person's lack of education, a drug addiction, or even a person's standard of living. In
our society today, having a good educational background will boost your chances of getting an exceptional paying job. If individuals aren't able to
obtain their high school diploma or college degree, finding a job that pays enough money to provide for themselves and their families will become
hard. Individuals who have a high school diploma or less typically find jobs that only pay minimum wage. Minimum wage jobs are good for teens
and college students; however, these jobs have a negative effect on an adult because they are the sole provider for their family. Once you factor in
necessities such as electricity, mortgage or rent, utilities, and food, it becomes difficult to raise a family. People who have no jobs at all have no

Causes Of Poverty Essay
Poverty is the world at its worst when people are deprived of basic everyday things that we take for granted like food, water, shelter, money, and
clothes .Poverty is considered one of the main problems that our society face nowadays. This problem affects the economy of any country and causes
deterioration for this economy and prevent its progress. There are many reasons that lead to poverty such as high living standard as peoples'
requirements such as food, clothes and shelter become very expensive and can't be affordable by many people or people who have jobs but have a
low salary beside all of that there are many additional problems which causes poverty such as divorce as due to the high living standard and people
have to spend too much money on education, food, prosperity for their children, and poverty lead to crime as poor people suffer from the high
living standard so that some of them become thieves and go to illegal ways to gain more money such as crime and robbery such as they steal their
houses , money and cars to gain more money illegally beside all of that many problems will happen such as divorce , many people will be become
homeless and there will street children which lead to bullying and there will be difficult in marriage as there will be difficulties to afford the prices
of marriage. Illiteracy too will be main cause which poverty lead to as many people won't go to school and university and will have jobs at their young

Causes Of Poverty In Ethiopia
.1 Statement of the problem
Poverty has been existing in the world for a very long time, and at different extents, it remains to be a worldwide social evil still now in the 21st
century. More than two thirds of the 1.4 billion people who live in extreme poverty reside in rural areas of the developing countries (FAO, 2012).
In Ethiopia, according to 2015/16 survey, also mentioned that out of the total population 21.4 million of them are poor. Out of this ruralpoverty
accounts for a significant proportion. Poverty in rural areas is characterize by largely due to the depletion of livelihood assets. This makes them
isolated from basic social service, extension services, markets etc. In addition, the poor in rural area is also vulnerable to natural disasters such as
drought or flooding. These factors contributing for gradual exclusion of the poor from society.
This days developing countries regularly conduct household surveys on income, consumption, health, demographics, labour force, household enterprise
etc ... for different purposes. The information with respect to poverty and wellbeing has improved dramatically and used for different poverty
eradication programme(Ravallion 2016).
The problem is not to measuring the magnitude of poverty at nationally or regionally. But analysis of poverty which conducted at country(regional)
level could not give full picture through all localities(areas) due to the nature and complexity of poverty and also the diverse

Reasons that Can Cause Poverty Essay
Poverty is the lack of the basic needs of life, including food, shelter, clothing and safe drinking water. For a person to live normally, it is important to
meet a certain level of physical, social, and emotional needs. People who live in poverty have difficult time to achieve those as they are not welcomed
in many places. Because of their low incomes, they have troubles in maintaining their health, hunger, education. Poverty has become a large issue
around the world. It is something that many of us know about but we're not realizing just how big of a problem it is. This paper will include basic
information about poverty, its effects, facts and statistics which can make people aware and want to help reduce poverty. Many people live...show more

Poverty can lead to serious effects. Children who grow up in poverty are likely to have frequent health problems than the children who grow in
better financial circumstances. For example, infants who are born into poverty have a low birth weight, and they grow up with mental or
physical disabilities. Not only are they sick, but they are most likely to die before their first birthday. Children who are raised in poverty might
miss school often because of their illnesses, and they have a much higher accident rate than the other children. Nearly a billion of the world's
population can't read nor write. Poor families experience stress much more than a normal family does. They are more likely to be exposed to
negative events such as illness, job loss, death of a family member, and depression. Homelessness is another effect of poverty. Homeless children
are less likely to receive proper nutrition, protection and they experience more health problems. Around 1.4 million children die each year from lack
of access to safe and clean water and proper nutrition. Homeless women experience a high rate of low birth weight infants as well as miscarriages.
Families who do not have homes receive much more stress than other families. They also have disruption in school, work, friendships, and family
relationships. There are other effects of poverty such as drug abuse and addiction, child and woman abuse, debts pressure, and increase in crimes.
According to UNICEF, 22,000

What Causes The Causes Poverty? Essay

What Causes Poverty? Everybody is wondering why people are suffering from this kind of global issue? It is a severe case that takes over the world
and kills the victims whom suffer from it. We should first know that this situation can be enhanced during the time. Undoubtedly it is poverty which is
a state of being extremely poor. Subsequently, it is one of the most unsolved issues today. It leads into a bad condition. So, there are three major points
that causes this situation. First, the lack of skills causes poverty. Plenty of people have a big problem with unemployment. They are looking for a job
to afford their priorities and requirements. For example, if the person wants to enroll himself to that job, he should bring on his background qualities
and his qualifications but unfortunately not everybody can pass on this interview because some of them don't have the enough necessities of that job;
the poor education is the main reason that makes them unemployed. Furthermore, the fear of showing cleverness. Many people are scared to fail.
They don't want to show their talents on job because they think that the people may tease their abilities and it could worse their life. You can find
others are not believing on themselves so that may affect them in the future because the first role before applying for a job is to believe in yourself to
achieve more. Also, they could be not educated. We have this issue that some are not well educated because they have family

Poverty : The Cause And Effects Of Poverty
Poverty is "the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor" (Dictionary.com, 2017). Based off
this definition poverty is a condition that can cause a cascade of cause and effect actions that is detrimental to families and individuals both physically
and mentally. Haan, Kaplan, & Camacho (2017) completed a study on the correlation between social and economic status and health in adults in
Oakland, CA. They found that the lower the socioeconomic class the higher incidents of diseases and deaths related to chronic diseases (p.1161–1162).

Again, just living in poverty areas increases health issues and mortality due to health issues. Children raised in poverty in substandard homes located in
high–crime areas have an increased chance of cognitive deficiencies, depression, or some other mental disorder (Anakwenze & Zuberi, 2013, p. 149).
The children are the future; with this being said, an ugly cycle of poverty continues to be reinforced with each generation. Breaking the cycle with
community outreach programs, increased mental health awareness, increased employment, and increased educational benefits for those in need are a
few things that could potential help. As the old saying goes, "Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed
Him for a Lifetime" (Author unknown). Unfortunately, there is no right or easy answer for poverty but, I believe education is the key.
I attended my 1st Poverty Simulation my Junior year and assumed the role of a single mother with a live–in boyfriend. I was randomly assigned my
role and only had the background information contained in the folder to guide my character. There were vendors situated around the room that
performed different tasks. There was a police man and a thief that added more stressors to the stimulation. The "weeks" were in 15–minute intervals
and there was a total of four weeks. During each week, you were required to do numerous tasks such as pay

poverty. According to the Business dictionary, poverty is a "Condition where people 's basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter are not being met".
Due to the serious effects and causes of poverty, it has always been an important issue throughout the world. Causes of poverty vary from country to

Little Mountain and Wan had different self–judgments of themselves regarding Vollmann's question, Vollmann then introduces the notion of
self–definition, one's self–perspective or self–judgment of themselves. Another question that reflects great insight on poverty that he repeatedly
inquires about is "Why are some people rich and others poor?"(86). A fisherman in Yemen answers "Allah does the right thing for us..."(29). The
fisherman, a religious man believes Allah determines one's socioeconomic status. Vollmann then conveys the notion of false consciousness, a mindset
that obviates one from observing the true nature of their life. Vollmann adds that charity "requires us to respect the self–awareness and self–judgments
of others wherever possible"(47). If one claims he or she is rich, despite it being false–consciousness charity demands one to accept it. No individual
can define others only one can define themselves.
There are many definitions of poverty, by many poverty is defined as being financially poor, lack of housing, and food. Vollmann uses two distinct
definitions in his book. First, "Poverty is wretched subnormality of opportunity and circumstances" (46). The lack of conventional opportunity and good
circumstances caused by things such as poor economy and war, Vollmann relates this definition to any human being

Does poverty still exist in America, one of the richest countries in the world? Unbelievably, poverty exists in overabundance. Not only in the inner
cities but also in rural areas and areas considered middle class. How are social institutions contributing to poverty and what can we do to alleviate
poverty in America? Has poverty contributed to crime? On the other hand, has crime contributed to poverty? Do poverty stricken people have the
same rights and basic needs as people who are not living in poverty? Can crime in poverty stricken areas be eliminated if there is no poverty, can
poverty even be eliminated?

The American ideal of worth as quoted by Lauer, et al, 2008: "....For the poor, the right to dignity as human beings is violated by the contradiction
between the American ideal of the worth of every individual and the pattern of interaction between the poor and the nonpoor.....They tend to be
subjected to contempt and rejection and blamed for their plight..." (Lauer, R.H., et al. 2008. Pg 168)
If the impoverished are treated with contempt as stated above, it would make sense they turn to crime. The very people that should be helping and
being supportive are the very ones who are helping to perpetuate their plight. Police who see the poor automatically will categorize the people in
poor areas as criminals. If a poor person, who was not dressed well, maybe clean, but shabby would be treated with suspicion if they were to go into
a store in a less poor area. This type of treatment does not help the emotional aspect of the impoverished. Thus, when they turn to crime, they have a
feeling of acceptance, especially from gangs. (Lauer, R.H., et al. 2008)
If government agencies actually worked together to help end poverty instead of helping corporations and private sectors to gain a profit, think how
much less poverty this country would have. If affordable education were offered to the youths and adults in poverty–stricken areas, maybe these people
would have a chance to achieve the American dream of happiness and have their dignity. If programs that were

What is the cause of Poverty?
In this paper I will discuss the causes for those below the poverty line in America set by the census bureau and how we might begin fixing them and
how they are already being fixed. I believe these issues are able to be helped but they need to be clarified and addressed properly. Currently in
America there are 46.2 million people currently listed as impoverished according to the Census Bureau. As such first we need to look at the causes for
poverty for nationally. In America the number one cause of poverty is single mothers. "C hild poverty is an ongoing national concern, but few are
aware of its principal cause: the absence of married fathers in the home. According to the U.S. Census, the poverty rate for single parents with
children in the United States in 2009 was 37.1 percent. The rate for married couples with children was 6.8 percent." (Heritage Foundation, Robert
Rector) ~~~HEINER SQUARE~~~ This is also worsened by the fact that women are paid on average 7% less than their male counterparts according
to Forbes. So what first needs to be done is that wages are equalized; doing this one thing would go a long way to helping these women out of their
impoverished situation. The next step is to keep women from having babies out of wedlock, and while measures have begun being taken to avoid these
situations; (ex. sex ed.) but it won't ever be truly dealt with since humans aren't machines. But that doesn't mean we can't strive to eliminate

Causes And Outcomes Of Poverty Essay
Prompt 1
The World Bank Organization, defines poverty as lacking access to shelter, doctors, healthy food, employment, and education. Poverty is more
complex than not having a stable income for acquiring basic resources like shelter, clothing and food. The obvious interpretation of poverty will
convince anyone that it is only one sided. There are many causes and outcomes of poverty. The complete opposite of directly suffering from living in
poverty is called indirect poverty; this type affects people who have to pay taxes, in order to help those who cannot help themselves. Nonetheless,
people directly affected by poverty live day by day, with a constant fear of what the future has in store for them, which in reality, is much worse. The
importance of the definition will help one be comprehensive in the different definitions of the word poverty, have an understanding of which
definition is the most appropriate for the United States, and that poverty affects children in all four domains of development. Research by
Yoshikawa, Aber, & Beardslee (2012), exemplifies different levels of poverty. The article explains that according to the U.S federal government, the
official definition of poverty, is living under the poverty line with an estimated gross income of $22,000 for a family of four. The basis of the poverty
line determines the eligibility of programs like reduced–price lunch, for those below 185% of the line and free lunch, for those below 130% of the
poverty line.

Causes Of Extreme Poverty
Extreme poverty is something that has been happening in this world for decades, if not for centuries. It is the scarcity of materials such as money,
food and water, and other necessities that people need to live; in other words, it is the condition of being poor. It is heart retching to know that there
are so many poor people in this world. Extreme poverty has been happening mainly in African, Asian, China, and Indian countries. Over a billion
people live on under a dollar a day. People in extreme poverty have to drink dirty water to survive because of the lack of money to have fresh water.
Approximately 11 million children die due to the lack of food and fresh water. It is supposed to be the job of the wealthier to do what they can do
to help. I have seen the less wealthy people helping the poor than I have seen the poor helping the poor. I have also seen that people tend to only help
specific types of people and ignore the other types, which leads me to my main points. I believe that there are several subjects that we have read in our
literature and discussed on the discussion board are lead causes of extreme poverty. The causes are things that the authors of the literature from this
semester would not approve, including discrimination, violence, and low education (Roser and Ortiz–Ospina).
I have watched several videos on YouTube and Facebook about people doing social experiments. The purpose of these social experiment videos for the
video creators to act as if they are

Currently, one of the most significant issues in the world is poverty and it is leading to numerous problems. In addition, "The most widely held and
understood definition of extreme poverty, established by the World Bank, defines poverty in strictly economic terms– earning less than $1.90 a day"
(World Bank, 2017). Majority of people are being hopeless, having a suicide, addicting to crime, losing their job, home and their closest ones, living
in a poor conditions. In some poor areas there is no chance for learning, no food or pure water for feeding themselves and family. Moreover, it may
impact on global problems, such as valuation of money, increasing disease rate and increase the number of uneducated people and etc. Although,
poverty is counted as a highly debated issue, it could be easily solved by simple actions by both government and each individuals. Creating new
working places and paying a sufficient salary for employees may encourage people for the future. However, making children interested in learning,
supporting them with good opportunities and controlling overpopulation takes a long period of time, these are the most efficient methods of decreasing
poverty rate.
Nowadays, poverty is becoming one of the biggest issues, in every part of the world. It is obvious, that huge amount of attention is needed to solve
this problem. The rate of this harmful situation could be solved by different methods and for helping people to live better, both government and public

A) Diversity of the causes of poverty in three different countries.
"The causes of poverty include changing trends in a country 's economy, lack of education, high divorce rate which causes feminization of poverty,
having a culture of poverty, overpopulation, epidemic diseases such as AIDS and malaria, and environmental problems such as lack of rainfall".
(White, Killick & Kayizzi, 2001) Almost half of the world over 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day. It is said that "a country is poor because
it is poor." Low level of sparing diminishes the degree for investment; low level of investment yields low salary and subsequently the circle of poverty
goes on uncertainly. There are five main causes of poverty in the world.
History: Many of the poorest nations in the world still suffering former colonies, slave–exporting areas and territories from using of resources.
War and political stability: Under this causes war and political upheaval, it is clear that safety, stability and security are necessary for the life.
National debt: Many poor countries carry significant debt loads due to loans from wealthier nations. Poorer nations pay an average of $2.30 in debt

Discrimination and social inequality: Poverty and inequality are two distinct things, however so does imbalance can fuel broad destitution, by

If these children are able to read and write well and have developed math skills they will be employed. A common argument for the lack of
education in poor inner cities is that poor children are more difficult to educate due to their lack of resources. However, The Rochester City District
spends almost twice the national average per student, but is the lowest performing school district in America (Hickman). Therefore, proving that more
money is not the solution. The solution is to provide teachers that are specific to teaching a certain demographic. According to Sean Slade in 40 out of
50 states low income students comprise 40% of public schools. With that being said there needs to be a revolution in the public education system. If
children are going to break the cycle of poverty they must be educated and pursue higher education. Improving the public school system will take more
money. To reduce the size of the population under the poverty threshold the education system has to be more rigorous and efficient, which will
requiring better teachers and more funds from the state or federal government. Children coming from poor households must be educated on the
importance of education. Only a few adolescentes that come from poverty truly are able to defy the circumstances they were raised. Education is
extremely important for adolescents. Children must be involved in extracurricular sports and clubs to teach them life skills

Throughout our course, we have looked at the lives of those economically disadvantaged in our society. We have talked about the causes and effects
of poverty on individuals and communities and looked at multiple in depth sociological studies. I have come to the conclusion that sociological
research is not relevant until it is grounded in rigorous analysis that takes into account the complex nature of social categories. Likewise, sociological
analysis means nothing in a vacuum. Its value lies in the actions that people take because of the new information that they hold. In this essay, I will
use the sociological concepts we have reviewed in class as a lens to reflect on my experience with developing my own sense and understanding of
empathy in order to prove the importance and relevance of empathy in relation to the field of sociology.

there, I have learned what empathy looks like, why it is important, and how to access it. Of the authors we read throughout this course, Arlie

Causes And Effects Of Poverty
Poverty is characterized by a specific dollar value for yearly income, and is used as a threshold for families of a given size in a given year, and if the
family income falls below that line, the family is considered to be in poverty (Aber, Morris, & Raver, 2012). The family self–sufficiency standard
serves as an additional measure of poverty, considering what it would take to meet family's basic needs, such as food, water, warmth, and rest, all
without being dependent on external government or charitable support (Aber, Morris, & Raver, 2012). On a national level, over fifteen percent, which
was almost forty–seven million people, were considered as poor in 2012 (The Urban Institute, 2016). Compared to the national statistics, the U.S.

There are two essential types of situational poverty, cyclical and of assets ("Situational Poverty," 2016). Cyclical poverty is dependent on the flow of
the national and global economy ("Situational Poverty," 2016). An example of cyclical poverty was the 2008–2013 great recession, that caused lower
pay rates and increased unemployment rates, which left people struggling to make ends meet, making them fall below the poverty line ("Situational
Poverty," 2016). Of assets poverty is provoked by a crisis to low income families or to the secure middle class ("Situational Poverty," 2016). Low
income families struggle to secure assets such as home ownership, checking and savings accounts, and life insurance because of the constant shift
between being above and below the poverty line ("Situational Poverty," 2016). Due to high risk decisions, middle class families can lose those assets.
("Situational Poverty," 2016).
Causes of Poverty
Some of the causes of poverty include family structure, the dynamics of jobs and wages, and having a disability. The family structure in Western
societies has changed considerably over the last fifty years. Cherlin and Raley proposed that the traditional norm for couples fifty years ago was for
them to be married and to have children (as cited in Baker, 2015). Contemporary families consist of single–parent household, unmarried births, and
later marriage (Edin & Kissane, 2010).

The Causes of Poverty in the Developing World
Many LDCВЎВ¦s have been badly affected by wars. There have been many civil wars in Africa, caused by European empire–building in the nineteenth
century. Several African races were joined into one country, but half a race was left in another country. These countries were still artificial countries
after they achieved independence. One race was often badly treated by the ruling race, which resulted in civil war. This also happened in Europe since
the various parts of Yugoslavia were given independence. LDCВЎВ¦s also suffer from wars between different countries, such as: Ethiopia and Somalia,
Afghanistan and Russia. There are wars caused by corruption and political differences too, for example:...show more content...
These natural disasters are earthquakes, floods, droughts and volcanic eruptions. Thousands of homes and acres of precious farmland can be
destroyed by an earthquake or a flood. If there is no rain, the crops will not grow unless the farmers have the wealth to sink wells, install pumps and
organise an irrigation system.
Debt
Most LDCВЎВ¦s are forced to borrow money from the banks of developed countries to survive and begin to develop. These banks charge interest, so
that a less developed country has to pay more in interest than it earns in foreign currency. In the early 70ВЎВ¦s, Chile borrowed 3.9 billion dollars. By
1982, Chile had paid 12.8 billion dollars in interest and still owed money.
The extra 9 billion dollars should have been used to speed up ChileВЎВ¦s development, but instead it went to countries that are already rich.
Cash crops
The only way for many LDCВЎВ¦s to make enough money for their debts is to grow cash crops. Cash crops are grown to be sold rather than
consumption. Cotton, Coffee, tea and tobacco are grown to sell to the developed world. Many people in LDCВЎВ¦s are starving because land is used
to grown cash crops instead of food.
World poverty concerns us all as we depend on each other. For example, if we want the Sudanese to grow cotton for our clothes, we must make sure
they have enough food to survive on.

The Causes Of Poverty

  • 1. The Causes Of Poverty Poverty is not having enough money to meet basic needs including food, clothing and shelter. There is no one cause of poverty, it has many facets. Many social scientists and political analyst believe that it is in part due to the large population as the larger the population the harder it is to eradicate poverty as several people compete for basic needs and opportunities. Some argue that it can also be attributed to lack of economic freedom or economic liberalization as they argue that extending property rights protection to the poor is one of the most important poverty reduction strategies a nation can implement. Another aspect of poverty, is the lack of strong governance and corruption. Inefficient government discourages foreign investors from opening a business. For instance, in Brazil it takes 86 days to get a business permit compared to 2 days in Canada. Moreover, corrupt officials often pockets the aid and the money intended to help the poor through education and hospitalization or by providing infrastructures needed to grow the economy. We may try to ignore poverty if we are well–off, however we still pay the price of poverty. For instance, it increases the cost on the health system, the justice system and other systems that provide support to those living in poverty ultimately impacting the economy and taxpayers indirectly. Additionally, poverty breeds other social injustices such as shorter life expectancy, infant mortality, teenage birth, low literacy rate, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Causes Of Poverty In Education Why do some kids not have the ability to go to a free public school? Why do some children not go to school at all? There are multiple reasons but one of the reasons that causes this issue is poverty. Poverty is not just a problem in America, it's a problem all over the globe. "In Asia, some 74 million of the world's total 132 million children . . . are not enrolled in primary education" (Bawane and Julius, 2011). In Bawane and Julius's studies they also found that there were a little over 72 million kids not currently enrolled in school in 2007. Poverty is an increasing issue all across the planet which is harmful to the minds of young children and can hurt their education. Bawane and Julius stated that poverty is not simply the absence of financial resources, it is also lack of capability to function effectively in society. Poverty is an increasing problem is our country and sometimes the meals children eat at school will be their only meal of the day. Poverty affects our schools and how students learn by hurting their grades, making them less likely to concentrate, and creating a negative childhood experience. Poverty stricken schools often have worse grades than school that have a lower poverty rate. Students who are hungry are least likely to pay attention and be able to focus. Wages says that "more than one–third of low–income students begin kindergarten not ready for school" which impacts their grades, how they learn compared to other students, and whether or not that child will be held back or not. Some schools in low poverty areas even often have free breakfast for all of their students to help be able to provide their meals and it has been proven that schools that provide that free breakfast have higher test grades. When students are hungry, stressed, or worried it is harder for students to focus and pay attention to the subject they're supposed to be learning, therefore causing bad test grades. When children are from poverty stricken homes, they are more likely to live stressful lives. Nocera wrote about a speech given by Dr. Pamela Cantor and she said, "if children are under stress, the ways they respond are remarkably similar". When children are stressed it affects their daily lives and how Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Causes And Effects Of Poverty Poverty touches many lives in both the United States and all over the world. People associate poverty with shortages or pauperism. Some individuals ignore the fact that poverty is a major problem in the world. While there are many causes and effects of poverty, such as ethnicity and crime, there are three important causes and effects that impact individuals and their families every day. Three important causes of poverty include lack of education, drug addiction, and standards of living while three effects of poverty include death, minimum wage jobs to no jobs, and imprisonment. Poverty exists for many reasons, but three important causes are a person's lack of education, a drug addiction, or even a person's standard of living. In our society today, having a good educational background will boost your chances of getting an exceptional paying job. If individuals aren't able to obtain their high school diploma or college degree, finding a job that pays enough money to provide for themselves and their families will become hard. Individuals who have a high school diploma or less typically find jobs that only pay minimum wage. Minimum wage jobs are good for teens and college students; however, these jobs have a negative effect on an adult because they are the sole provider for their family. Once you factor in necessities such as electricity, mortgage or rent, utilities, and food, it becomes difficult to raise a family. People who have no jobs at all have no possible way of paying Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Causes Of Poverty Essay Poverty is the world at its worst when people are deprived of basic everyday things that we take for granted like food, water, shelter, money, and clothes .Poverty is considered one of the main problems that our society face nowadays. This problem affects the economy of any country and causes deterioration for this economy and prevent its progress. There are many reasons that lead to poverty such as high living standard as peoples' requirements such as food, clothes and shelter become very expensive and can't be affordable by many people or people who have jobs but have a low salary beside all of that there are many additional problems which causes poverty such as divorce as due to the high living standard and people have to spend too much money on education, food, prosperity for their children, and poverty lead to crime as poor people suffer from the high living standard so that some of them become thieves and go to illegal ways to gain more money such as crime and robbery such as they steal their houses , money and cars to gain more money illegally beside all of that many problems will happen such as divorce , many people will be become homeless and there will street children which lead to bullying and there will be difficult in marriage as there will be difficulties to afford the prices of marriage. Illiteracy too will be main cause which poverty lead to as many people won't go to school and university and will have jobs at their young age to earn their living and it will Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Causes Of Poverty In Ethiopia .1 Statement of the problem Poverty has been existing in the world for a very long time, and at different extents, it remains to be a worldwide social evil still now in the 21st century. More than two thirds of the 1.4 billion people who live in extreme poverty reside in rural areas of the developing countries (FAO, 2012). In Ethiopia, according to 2015/16 survey, also mentioned that out of the total population 21.4 million of them are poor. Out of this ruralpoverty accounts for a significant proportion. Poverty in rural areas is characterize by largely due to the depletion of livelihood assets. This makes them isolated from basic social service, extension services, markets etc. In addition, the poor in rural area is also vulnerable to natural disasters such as drought or flooding. These factors contributing for gradual exclusion of the poor from society. This days developing countries regularly conduct household surveys on income, consumption, health, demographics, labour force, household enterprise etc ... for different purposes. The information with respect to poverty and wellbeing has improved dramatically and used for different poverty eradication programme(Ravallion 2016). The problem is not to measuring the magnitude of poverty at nationally or regionally. But analysis of poverty which conducted at country(regional) level could not give full picture through all localities(areas) due to the nature and complexity of poverty and also the diverse Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Reasons that Can Cause Poverty Essay Poverty is the lack of the basic needs of life, including food, shelter, clothing and safe drinking water. For a person to live normally, it is important to meet a certain level of physical, social, and emotional needs. People who live in poverty have difficult time to achieve those as they are not welcomed in many places. Because of their low incomes, they have troubles in maintaining their health, hunger, education. Poverty has become a large issue around the world. It is something that many of us know about but we're not realizing just how big of a problem it is. This paper will include basic information about poverty, its effects, facts and statistics which can make people aware and want to help reduce poverty. Many people live...show more content... Poverty can lead to serious effects. Children who grow up in poverty are likely to have frequent health problems than the children who grow in better financial circumstances. For example, infants who are born into poverty have a low birth weight, and they grow up with mental or physical disabilities. Not only are they sick, but they are most likely to die before their first birthday. Children who are raised in poverty might miss school often because of their illnesses, and they have a much higher accident rate than the other children. Nearly a billion of the world's population can't read nor write. Poor families experience stress much more than a normal family does. They are more likely to be exposed to negative events such as illness, job loss, death of a family member, and depression. Homelessness is another effect of poverty. Homeless children are less likely to receive proper nutrition, protection and they experience more health problems. Around 1.4 million children die each year from lack of access to safe and clean water and proper nutrition. Homeless women experience a high rate of low birth weight infants as well as miscarriages. Families who do not have homes receive much more stress than other families. They also have disruption in school, work, friendships, and family relationships. There are other effects of poverty such as drug abuse and addiction, child and woman abuse, debts pressure, and increase in crimes. According to UNICEF, 22,000 Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. What Causes The Causes Poverty? Essay Essay1 What Causes Poverty? Everybody is wondering why people are suffering from this kind of global issue? It is a severe case that takes over the world and kills the victims whom suffer from it. We should first know that this situation can be enhanced during the time. Undoubtedly it is poverty which is a state of being extremely poor. Subsequently, it is one of the most unsolved issues today. It leads into a bad condition. So, there are three major points that causes this situation. First, the lack of skills causes poverty. Plenty of people have a big problem with unemployment. They are looking for a job to afford their priorities and requirements. For example, if the person wants to enroll himself to that job, he should bring on his background qualities and his qualifications but unfortunately not everybody can pass on this interview because some of them don't have the enough necessities of that job; the poor education is the main reason that makes them unemployed. Furthermore, the fear of showing cleverness. Many people are scared to fail. They don't want to show their talents on job because they think that the people may tease their abilities and it could worse their life. You can find others are not believing on themselves so that may affect them in the future because the first role before applying for a job is to believe in yourself to achieve more. Also, they could be not educated. We have this issue that some are not well educated because they have family Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Poverty : The Cause And Effects Of Poverty Poverty is "the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor" (Dictionary.com, 2017). Based off this definition poverty is a condition that can cause a cascade of cause and effect actions that is detrimental to families and individuals both physically and mentally. Haan, Kaplan, & Camacho (2017) completed a study on the correlation between social and economic status and health in adults in Oakland, CA. They found that the lower the socioeconomic class the higher incidents of diseases and deaths related to chronic diseases (p.1161–1162). Just being without money or little money was not the only indication of health indication, a person living in an area with higher poverty issues...show more content... Again, just living in poverty areas increases health issues and mortality due to health issues. Children raised in poverty in substandard homes located in high–crime areas have an increased chance of cognitive deficiencies, depression, or some other mental disorder (Anakwenze & Zuberi, 2013, p. 149). The children are the future; with this being said, an ugly cycle of poverty continues to be reinforced with each generation. Breaking the cycle with community outreach programs, increased mental health awareness, increased employment, and increased educational benefits for those in need are a few things that could potential help. As the old saying goes, "Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime" (Author unknown). Unfortunately, there is no right or easy answer for poverty but, I believe education is the key. I attended my 1st Poverty Simulation my Junior year and assumed the role of a single mother with a live–in boyfriend. I was randomly assigned my role and only had the background information contained in the folder to guide my character. There were vendors situated around the room that performed different tasks. There was a police man and a thief that added more stressors to the stimulation. The "weeks" were in 15–minute intervals and there was a total of four weeks. • 9. The Cause And Causes Of Poverty There are many global issues such as violence, lack of resources, and climate change that affect everyday life. Among the many is the issue of poverty. According to the Business dictionary, poverty is a "Condition where people 's basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter are not being met". Due to the serious effects and causes of poverty, it has always been an important issue throughout the world. Causes of poverty vary from country to country but the biggest and most common causes are things such as national debt., disabilities, health issues, war, social inequality, lack of education, and natural resources. Little Mountain and Wan had different self–judgments of themselves regarding Vollmann's question, Vollmann then introduces the notion of self–definition, one's self–perspective or self–judgment of themselves. Another question that reflects great insight on poverty that he repeatedly inquires about is "Why are some people rich and others poor?"(86). A fisherman in Yemen answers "Allah does the right thing for us..."(29). The fisherman, a religious man believes Allah determines one's socioeconomic status. Vollmann then conveys the notion of false consciousness, a mindset that obviates one from observing the true nature of their life. Vollmann adds that charity "requires us to respect the self–awareness and self–judgments of others wherever possible"(47). If one claims he or she is rich, despite it being false–consciousness charity demands one to accept it. No individual can define others only one can define themselves. There are many definitions of poverty, by many poverty is defined as being financially poor, lack of housing, and food. Vollmann uses two distinct definitions in his book. First, "Poverty is wretched subnormality of opportunity and circumstances" (46). The lack of conventional opportunity and good circumstances caused by things such as poor economy and war, Vollmann relates this definition to any human being Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Poverty: Causes and Effects Poverty: Causes and Effects By April Zusman SOC 402 April 22, 2010 Does poverty still exist in America, one of the richest countries in the world? Unbelievably, poverty exists in overabundance. Not only in the inner cities but also in rural areas and areas considered middle class. How are social institutions contributing to poverty and what can we do to alleviate poverty in America? Has poverty contributed to crime? On the other hand, has crime contributed to poverty? Do poverty stricken people have the same rights and basic needs as people who are not living in poverty? Can crime in poverty stricken areas be eliminated if there is no poverty, can poverty even be eliminated? How does one of the richest countries in the world have...show more content... The American ideal of worth as quoted by Lauer, et al, 2008: "....For the poor, the right to dignity as human beings is violated by the contradiction between the American ideal of the worth of every individual and the pattern of interaction between the poor and the nonpoor.....They tend to be subjected to contempt and rejection and blamed for their plight..." (Lauer, R.H., et al. 2008. Pg 168) If the impoverished are treated with contempt as stated above, it would make sense they turn to crime. The very people that should be helping and being supportive are the very ones who are helping to perpetuate their plight. Police who see the poor automatically will categorize the people in poor areas as criminals. If a poor person, who was not dressed well, maybe clean, but shabby would be treated with suspicion if they were to go into a store in a less poor area. This type of treatment does not help the emotional aspect of the impoverished. Thus, when they turn to crime, they have a feeling of acceptance, especially from gangs. (Lauer, R.H., et al. 2008) If government agencies actually worked together to help end poverty instead of helping corporations and private sectors to gain a profit, think how much less poverty this country would have. If affordable education were offered to the youths and adults in poverty–stricken areas, maybe these people would have a chance to achieve the American dream of happiness and have their dignity. In this paper I will discuss the causes for those below the poverty line in America set by the census bureau and how we might begin fixing them and how they are already being fixed. I believe these issues are able to be helped but they need to be clarified and addressed properly. Currently in America there are 46.2 million people currently listed as impoverished according to the Census Bureau. As such first we need to look at the causes for poverty for nationally. In America the number one cause of poverty is single mothers. "C hild poverty is an ongoing national concern, but few are aware of its principal cause: the absence of married fathers in the home. According to the U.S. Census, the poverty rate for single parents with children in the United States in 2009 was 37.1 percent. The rate for married couples with children was 6.8 percent." (Heritage Foundation, Robert Rector) ~~~HEINER SQUARE~~~ This is also worsened by the fact that women are paid on average 7% less than their male counterparts according to Forbes. So what first needs to be done is that wages are equalized; doing this one thing would go a long way to helping these women out of their impoverished situation. The next step is to keep women from having babies out of wedlock, and while measures have begun being taken to avoid these situations; (ex. sex ed.) but it won't ever be truly dealt with since humans aren't machines. But that doesn't mean we can't strive to eliminate Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Causes And Outcomes Of Poverty Essay Prompt 1 The World Bank Organization, defines poverty as lacking access to shelter, doctors, healthy food, employment, and education. Poverty is more complex than not having a stable income for acquiring basic resources like shelter, clothing and food. The obvious interpretation of poverty will convince anyone that it is only one sided. There are many causes and outcomes of poverty. The complete opposite of directly suffering from living in poverty is called indirect poverty; this type affects people who have to pay taxes, in order to help those who cannot help themselves. Nonetheless, people directly affected by poverty live day by day, with a constant fear of what the future has in store for them, which in reality, is much worse. The importance of the definition will help one be comprehensive in the different definitions of the word poverty, have an understanding of which definition is the most appropriate for the United States, and that poverty affects children in all four domains of development. Research by Yoshikawa, Aber, & Beardslee (2012), exemplifies different levels of poverty. The article explains that according to the U.S federal government, the official definition of poverty, is living under the poverty line with an estimated gross income of $22,000 for a family of four. The basis of the poverty line determines the eligibility of programs like reduced–price lunch, for those below 185% of the line and free lunch, for those below 130% of the poverty line. • 14. Causes Of Extreme Poverty Extreme poverty is something that has been happening in this world for decades, if not for centuries. It is the scarcity of materials such as money, food and water, and other necessities that people need to live; in other words, it is the condition of being poor. It is heart retching to know that there are so many poor people in this world. Extreme poverty has been happening mainly in African, Asian, China, and Indian countries. Over a billion people live on under a dollar a day. People in extreme poverty have to drink dirty water to survive because of the lack of money to have fresh water. Approximately 11 million children die due to the lack of food and fresh water. It is supposed to be the job of the wealthier to do what they can do to help. I have seen the less wealthy people helping the poor than I have seen the poor helping the poor. I have also seen that people tend to only help specific types of people and ignore the other types, which leads me to my main points. I believe that there are several subjects that we have read in our literature and discussed on the discussion board are lead causes of extreme poverty. The causes are things that the authors of the literature from this semester would not approve, including discrimination, violence, and low education (Roser and Ortiz–Ospina). I have watched several videos on YouTube and Facebook about people doing social experiments. The purpose of these social experiment videos for the video creators to act as if they are Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. Causes And Consequences Of Poverty Essay A) Diversity of the causes of poverty in three different countries. "The causes of poverty include changing trends in a country 's economy, lack of education, high divorce rate which causes feminization of poverty, having a culture of poverty, overpopulation, epidemic diseases such as AIDS and malaria, and environmental problems such as lack of rainfall". (White, Killick & Kayizzi, 2001) Almost half of the world over 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day. It is said that "a country is poor because it is poor." Low level of sparing diminishes the degree for investment; low level of investment yields low salary and subsequently the circle of poverty goes on uncertainly. There are five main causes of poverty in the world. History: Many of the poorest nations in the world still suffering former colonies, slave–exporting areas and territories from using of resources. • 17. Cause Of Poverty Essay Millions of people in the U.S are slipping below the middle class and into the grip of poverty. More than 45 million people are living in destitution in the U.S. That means more than 14% of the population is making less than $2,400.00 a month. The Many people believe that there several factors that cause poverty. However, there are really only three main causes of poverty; a poor economy, a long history of drug use, and lack of education. The America that most people know is deteriorating, along with the backbone of the economy. No one really knows who to blame for this collapse in the economy. The Republicans blame the Democrats and vice versa. However this does not really matter because as politicians stand idly by the trade deficit in...show more content... If these children are able to read and write well and have developed math skills they will be employed. A common argument for the lack of education in poor inner cities is that poor children are more difficult to educate due to their lack of resources. However, The Rochester City District spends almost twice the national average per student, but is the lowest performing school district in America (Hickman). Therefore, proving that more money is not the solution. The solution is to provide teachers that are specific to teaching a certain demographic. According to Sean Slade in 40 out of 50 states low income students comprise 40% of public schools. With that being said there needs to be a revolution in the public education system. If children are going to break the cycle of poverty they must be educated and pursue higher education. Improving the public school system will take more money. To reduce the size of the population under the poverty threshold the education system has to be more rigorous and efficient, which will requiring better teachers and more funds from the state or federal government. Children coming from poor households must be educated on the importance of education. Only a few adolescentes that come from poverty truly are able to defy the circumstances they were raised. Education is extremely important for adolescents. Children must be involved in extracurricular sports and clubs to teach them life skills Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Throughout our course, we have looked at the lives of those economically disadvantaged in our society. We have talked about the causes and effects of poverty on individuals and communities and looked at multiple in depth sociological studies. I have come to the conclusion that sociological research is not relevant until it is grounded in rigorous analysis that takes into account the complex nature of social categories. Likewise, sociological analysis means nothing in a vacuum. Its value lies in the actions that people take because of the new information that they hold. In this essay, I will use the sociological concepts we have reviewed in class as a lens to reflect on my experience with developing my own sense and understanding of empathy in order to prove the importance and relevance of empathy in relation to the field of sociology. Ever since I arrived at Brandeis, I have been visiting a local day shelter (or day center) in Waltham that provides meals and case management services to folks experiencing homelessness and poverty. It is a "wet shelter," which means that the staff welcomes everyone, regardless of whether or not they are using substances as long as they are not actively using in the space. Through spending time at the center and having conversations with the guests there, I have learned what empathy looks like, why it is important, and how to access it. • 19. Causes And Effects Of Poverty Poverty is characterized by a specific dollar value for yearly income, and is used as a threshold for families of a given size in a given year, and if the family income falls below that line, the family is considered to be in poverty (Aber, Morris, & Raver, 2012). The family self–sufficiency standard serves as an additional measure of poverty, considering what it would take to meet family's basic needs, such as food, water, warmth, and rest, all without being dependent on external government or charitable support (Aber, Morris, & Raver, 2012). On a national level, over fifteen percent, which was almost forty–seven million people, were considered as poor in 2012 (The Urban Institute, 2016). Compared to the national statistics, the U.S. ...show more content... There are two essential types of situational poverty, cyclical and of assets ("Situational Poverty," 2016). Cyclical poverty is dependent on the flow of the national and global economy ("Situational Poverty," 2016). An example of cyclical poverty was the 2008–2013 great recession, that caused lower pay rates and increased unemployment rates, which left people struggling to make ends meet, making them fall below the poverty line ("Situational Poverty," 2016). Of assets poverty is provoked by a crisis to low income families or to the secure middle class ("Situational Poverty," 2016). Low income families struggle to secure assets such as home ownership, checking and savings accounts, and life insurance because of the constant shift between being above and below the poverty line ("Situational Poverty," 2016). Due to high risk decisions, middle class families can lose those assets. ("Situational Poverty," 2016). Causes of Poverty Some of the causes of poverty include family structure, the dynamics of jobs and wages, and having a disability. The family structure in Western societies has changed considerably over the last fifty years. Cherlin and Raley proposed that the traditional norm for couples fifty years ago was for them to be married and to have children (as cited in Baker, 2015). Contemporary families consist of single–parent household, unmarried births, and later marriage (Edin & Kissane, 2010). Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. The Causes of Poverty in the Developing World Many LDCВЎВ¦s have been badly affected by wars. There have been many civil wars in Africa, caused by European empire–building in the nineteenth century. Several African races were joined into one country, but half a race was left in another country. These countries were still artificial countries after they achieved independence. One race was often badly treated by the ruling race, which resulted in civil war. This also happened in Europe since the various parts of Yugoslavia were given independence. LDCВЎВ¦s also suffer from wars between different countries, such as: Ethiopia and Somalia, Afghanistan and Russia. There are wars caused by corruption and political differences too, for example:...show more content... These natural disasters are earthquakes, floods, droughts and volcanic eruptions. Thousands of homes and acres of precious farmland can be destroyed by an earthquake or a flood. If there is no rain, the crops will not grow unless the farmers have the wealth to sink wells, install pumps and organise an irrigation system. Debt Most LDCВЎВ¦s are forced to borrow money from the banks of developed countries to survive and begin to develop. These banks charge interest, so that a less developed country has to pay more in interest than it earns in foreign currency. In the early 70ВЎВ¦s, Chile borrowed 3.9 billion dollars. By 1982, Chile had paid 12.8 billion dollars in interest and still owed money. The extra 9 billion dollars should have been used to speed up ChileВЎВ¦s development, but instead it went to countries that are already rich. Cash crops The only way for many LDCВЎВ¦s to make enough money for their debts is to grow cash crops. Cash crops are grown to be sold rather than consumption. Cotton, Coffee, tea and tobacco are grown to sell to the developed world. Many people in LDCВЎВ¦s are starving because land is used to grown cash crops instead of food. World poverty concerns us all as we depend on each other. For example, if we want the Sudanese to grow cotton for our clothes, we must make sure they have enough food to survive on.
