Writing Technique And Sentence Structure
MWP4 Final
Writing is a tool used in many subjects, and it has a great deal of importance in our society. In this article written by Fish, the reader is given his
perspective on what a writing course should encompass. Fish begins the article by pointing out the problem with english composition classes today. On
the first page he mentions how one day ,while grading papers, he noticed that his graduate students did not write clean proper sentences. Fish took it
upon himself to find out why students lack simple writing skills and how english composition professors can fix it? After finding the answers to his
questions Fish came to the conclusion that the only way to teach writing is by focusing on technique and sentence structure. He believes that once a
student masters the skills it takes to write then they can write successfully. Writing is used daily and it is important that we master the ability. Fish has
a good argument that supports the focus on writing technique, but he misses the importance of other writing factors such as evidence, audience, and
rhetoric.
Fish is no amauetur when it comes to writing or teaching writing. In the second part of the article he gives the reader a resume showing off his full
writing career. It is clear that he puts high importance on writing. While he searched for a better way to teach students how to write, he came to the
realization that focusing on writing for the sole purpose of writing is the best way to improve. The ACTA also agrees

Essay On Content Writing Techniques
There are many different writing techniques one can utilize when content writing for a webpage. Marketing products online is vastly different than
the writing you would see in a novel. Visitors to a web page typically spend less than 30 seconds on that page before moving to the next one, so you
have to make your content snappy and to the point! The more time they have to waste searching for the information they need the less chance you
have of selling your products. Webpage design and content are crucial factors when it comes toonline marketing. Not only do you have to factor in
what your readers want to see, however you have to hit keywords so that your site will get a good ranking when it is put through a search engine
algorithm. This...show more content...
If you're wondering why this would be so important, 60% of the first clicks in a search engine are accounted for in the first five results. This means
if you want to get customers on your webpage, you better utilize SEO. If you are serious about boosting your webpage, Eminent SEO has great tips
on how to improve your SEO and can even do it for you. They can help with anything from marketing, SEO and content writing to give your site more
visibility.
Writing for your web page audience
First rule, never try and get too fancy. Typically, people will briefly skim through your web page, meaning it's likely that all those creative minute
ideas that popped into your head were not even put to good use. Research actually suggests that only 16% of readers read every page on a web site.
Many people are online because they are in a rush; they want their information now. They don't want to have to sift through line after line of creative
writing to find the information they are looking for. Granted, as a writer there can be a fine balance to this, as you don't want to become a robot
writer. Adding in some creativity here and there can add interesting aspects to a webpage. However, for the most part you want to keep it as simple as
possible for your information–hungry audience.
Secondly, make sure you are writing for a lazy audience. Now I do not want to stereotype a lot of online users, but the easier something can

Pre Writing Techniques Essay
PRE WRITING TECHNIQUES
Prewriting is the first stage of the writing process, typically followed by drafting, revision, editing and publishing. Elements of prewriting may include
planning, research, outlining, diagramming, storyboarding or clustering etc. Prewriting is important because it helps you generate ideas for writing.
Some of the prewriting techniques are:
1. Outlining
2. Free Writing
3. Thinking maps
4. Cubing
5. Directed Questioning
6. Note making and note taking
7. Brain storming
8. Clustering
9. Charting
10. Scanning
The detail of each skill along with its examples is given below. 1. Outlining
An outline is a document that briefly summarizes the information that will be included in a paper, book, speech, or...show more content...
Note taking is a technique which is used when a person is reading or hearing something for the first time and he is trying to jot down the key
information so he can use it later. Note making is when you return to those notes and make notes on them. This means you just go through notes, put
things into your own words or summarize them and highlight key points. This technique is useful while gathering information for a respective article
from books and lectures etc. Examples: 1. This technique is helpful when you are going to study a language other than you mother tongue. Because it
is not easy to remember a lot of knowledge and vocabulary of the secondary language in one attempt. So there will be a need to read it again to learn
and remember more about new language.
2. If you are attending a technical lecture (e.g. related to some machine or something else), it is a good practice to make lecture notes because you
might need them to make comprehensive understanding of the topic.
7. Brainstorming
It means thinking of as many ideas as possible in a short amount of time. Brainstorming involves capturing all of the thoughts, ideas, and fragments in
your head and writing them down on paper. Brainstorming is an informal way of generating topics to write about, or points to make about your topic.
The important point about brainstorming is that there should be no

The Art Techniques And Styles
Compare contrast essay
The two artists I have chosen to compare and contrast have recently exhibited work at the tate modern they are Antony Gormley 's untitled piece
he predominantly uses additive sculpture as his preferred medium and Anish Kapoor`s Ishi's Light he uses additive sculpture as well to create
work. Anish Kapoor produces art in a very personal way through abstract expressionism. This is shown through the representation of his emotion
within his art but done in such as a way as to be abstract, allowing a viewer to interpret it in there own way. I also want to use Pablo Picasso so as
to look into other art forms different to the 3 dimensional sculptural work as well as giving further comparison between the two art forms and offer a
different perspective on my two chosen artists' work. In this essay I will analyse each of the art techniques and styles these artists experiment with. I
am going to look at individual pieces of artwork and compare and contrast the two. I will also be looking at the different influences that could have
affected or inspired each artist 's work, and the different way in which their art contributes to fine art as a whole, through younger student development
and the way their work can be interpreted.
There are two main types of sculpture, subtractive and additive. Subtractive sculpture is the oldest form of sculpture and involves removing material, as
in wood carving or stone sculpture. Antony Gormley and Anish Kapoor have both

Essay on Learning Writing Techniques
Over the past few months, I have learned several different writing techniques. While all of the different types of papers were difficult to write, I
believe that my writing skills have improved. However, I did not understand all of the assignments, but I did try to do my best on all of them. I should
have used more transitional words. It is true that I have not had very much writing experience and the writing process is difficult for me. Sometimes, I
do admit, it takes days to complete one assignment. I also have to write an essay several times before it sounds right. I did not know where to place a
comma in a sentence, and had quite a few run–on sentences. I also learned how to do effective research on a subject. Additionally, I learned...show more

In addition, I did not consider the amount of research that I needed to make an effective argument. In the middle of the assignment, I wanted to
abandon it. I am glad that I continued writing it though. Research in the library labs was very helpful and informative. The techniques that I
learned helped me find web sites that were not biased. I felt that most of the research has creditable information. Many people make web sites that
are not credible and it is always good to select scholarly sources when writing research papers for school. When one researches a subject, you should
always keep good records. I am a disorganized person, and very careless. Sometimes during the research process, I lose information that I researched.
Although, the paper was quite confusing at times, I felt I did a good job. I am also quite surprised how well this paper turned out and believe, other
people might confirm the improvement of my essays. I have completed the paper. In order to accomplish this, I used organization, better use of
punctuation, and transitional words.
Furthermore, I did not understand an effective quote sandwich. The second assignment was difficult for me. For example, when quoting someone,
one should write something such as: Balko points out that, he is upset with insurance companies (Balko 158 ). This effectively introduces who is
saying what. In addition, it is an example of a paraphrase, because I am using my own words. However, Mr. Balko, failed to do this in his

Memory Technique Essay
Have you ever noticed how hard it can be to remember something in class especially for a test? Many students have trouble identifying why they
have trouble recalling. A lot of the problem could very well be what forms of techniques they are using to study. To be able to find the best way to
study a student needs to realize the ways in which information is stored. It is the goal of this paper to help students to better study and identify ways in
which they can achieve this. The paper will include how information is made into a memory, how study habits can affect this by using my own
example, and showcase three recommendations that psychologists have given for effective studying. These being effective note taking, the keyword

So, a professor armed with this knowledge will present information in multiple ways to insure that there information makes the transition to short term
memory. Feldman refers to this period of continuous exposure to information as rehearsal (Feldman, 2009). If a professor is successful, this transition
will take place. To retain and keep information there and even moving it into long term memory takes even more rehearsal, also known to most as
studying. It is this process in which we will elaborate on and explain why they are the methods that work most effectively. The first suggestion in
helping aide in retention that we will discuss is effective note taking. This may sound simple to write down information however, it takes practice to do
it effectively. The text suggests operating on the Less is more rule (Feldman, 2009). This phrase means to take notes that help facilitate recall, listen to
the lecture and write down just the key points such as new terms, or definitions. This is a huge change from what I was taught in high school. The
method that I was taught was to literally write down everything that sounded important from the lecture that was given. This ineffective method forced
me to have to reread the text and then study my notes to pick out information that wasn't covered in the reading. Eventually, I learned to take notes
before the lecture, and then use the notes

Essay Comparing Two Writing Techniques
Techniques in writing Albert Einstein once said, "You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war." Writers frequently use figurative language
to demonstrate and emphasize what they wish the audience to acknowledge. Irony is a situation in which the opposite happened rather than what is
expected. Imagery is a figurative language that uses the five senses to represent an idea. Structure is how the writer organized his lines. Many writers
use irony, imagery, and structure in their writings to protest war. One of the techniques that the authors use to prove and emphasize an idea is by irony.
During the war, soldiers "tumbled in the yellow trenches/ Raged at [their] breast, gulped, and died... War is kind" (Crane 13–16). This shows irony due
to the fact that war is never kind for it ends innumerable, innocent lives. The soldier's mother is "so happy and proud because... [his son] made people
crumple" and ended their lives (Powers 9–10). It is ironic that his mother, who is a Christian, is...show more content...
Because of the obstacles of the war, the author "have said [he] wanted to die... wanting to be asleep forever" (Powers 1–2). There is only one long
sentence because the author did not use any periods. This shows how Powers' writing is a chaos, and how the war have made the author broken.
Fighting in a war is rigorous "[b]ecause the land was mined and booby–trapped... Because [anyone] could die... Because the nights were cold" (O'Brien
10–14). The author keeps repeating "because" to acknowledge the readers concerning the matter of the harsh, painful idea of war. Whitman has said the
phrase: "Beat! beat! drums! – blow! bugles! Blow!" multiple times in his poem (1). Whitman keeps repeating the phrase to let readers know that once
someone fight in a war, they would never forget everything, even the terrific sound effects of the bombs and rifles. Writers use structure in their
writings to reveal their

Free Writing Technique
I have always preferred the listing method, so I completed the free writing technique for contrast. While free writing on the topic, I felt like I was
doing really well, and thought that I might actually prefer free writing over the listing technique. Once I had completed my free writing, I realized
that I had told a story on the subject, which was performed very narrowly minded, not leaving me any mind broadening ideas. What I decided to do
next was, list ideas and words that pertained to the subject. This technique was head over shoulders more suitable for me, one word lead to another
idea, then another. Even though I personally prefer the listing technique, I think that I found positive points in both, and also negative points. I noticed

My Writing Techniques
During this semester in Writing Workshop, I learned many writing techniques that helped improve my writing. I learned how to research topics
effectively and use scholarly sources instead of popular sources. I learned how to conduct an interview and developed problem solving skills. All of
these techniques helped me develop my final solution to the issue I chose to research. In high school, when my teacher told me to research a topic and
write an essay on it, I would go to Google and type in the topic. Once Google provided me with millions of hits, I usually chose the first one and
used it. Also, I would use Wikipedia. Wikipedia contains information about topics, but people can edit those pages and put false information. At the
beginning of my second semester, I started to learn about scholarly sources. Scholarly sources usually come from an expert or doctor. These experts
and doctors take the time to research the topic and provide it to the public. Using scholarly sources helps improve your argument or viewpoint.
Sources such as CNN, CBS, and NBC are popular sources and do not...show more content...
We assume stuff every day. When we assume things, we usually do not realize that we just assumed something. For example, every morning when
somebody gets up and go outside to start their car, they assume it will start. I do it every morning. I do not walk outside and expect it not to start.
When solving a problem we assume things and to make our solution strong we need to get rid of those assumptions. During this second semester, I
learned about many techniques that enhanced my writing. I cannot believe that my first year of college is over because it seems like yesterday I
attended my first class. I will use this techniques throughout the rest of my life to make my paper stronger and more professional. As I continue to learn
I will add techniques I learn in the future to make my writing even stronger. I believe my writing is strong, but can

Teaching Techniques for Different Learning Styles
As teachers we will be faced with many difficult tasks one of which will be finding creative ways to motivate the children in our classes to learn.
There are so many teaching techniques it may be overwhelming for new teachers. With the emphasis on test scores and the "No Child Left Behind" Act
many teachers may fear being creative in the classroom. This paper will attempt to explore some creative teaching techniques.
Recently there has been much discussion about different learning styles. As teachers it is important that we try to teach to all the styles in order for the
children in our classes to be motivated to learn. Flexibility and creativity can aid teaching different learning...show more content...
Some Tips for teaching auditory learners are:
–Read instructions for assignments and tests out loud
–Verbally explain charts and graphs
–Brainstorm with the children
–Have students work in small groups
–Use music
Music is an excellent way to increase language skills in auditory learners. Teachers can have the children write their own songs and use songs and rap
as poetry to teach reading.
Kinesthetic learners make up fifty percent of the population. Some tips for teaching kinesthetic learners are
–Have the children make their own charts and graphs
–Have plenty of opportunity for the children to "do" for themselves
–Provide ample time for students to move around minimizing time sitting and listening
–Make sure the children have some time to work out their energy (through recess or physical education)
Science is an excellent area for kinesthetic learners. In reading teachers can have students act out stories. Teachers should try to have as many hands on
activities as possible to encourage these students to perform to their full potential.
The most difficult thing for teachers to do is to balance the 3 styles to ensure that all students will feel motivated to learn. Teachers need to find a way
to tailor their teaching styles to fit all types of learners in their classes.
All children will benefit from being exposed to the different teaching styles that accompany the different learning styles.

I did not introduce the person effectively. For example, when quoting someone, one should write something such: as Balko points out that, he is upset

what I thought about the quote afterwards. When doing this in an essay, the teacher has no way of knowing what the student is trying to convey. A
proper quote should start with an introduction. After the introduction, you have to say what the person has said, followed by what you think about
what they said. After doing this, a student should cite the author by using parentheses. I did not know that a writer was supposed to do this. My first
paper was very inadequate.
Additionally, I also cited sources and then forgot where I got the information. However, the use of citing information and research was also one of my
debilitating points. Nevertheless, I believe after the reminders, corrections, and proofreading that needed pointing out to me, helped me improve in this
area.

Free Writing Technique
I really understand your point about free writing and based upon looking at this thread it would seem that a lot of students also share some of your
views regarding free writing. I think it's just that for some writing in a short period of time without using proper punctuation can be a bit difficult since
in that respect you are throwing a key part of what you have learned about writing out the window in order to write like a mad man for ten minutes.
However when it comes to free writing that is not the only technique that you can use as another free writing technique that I have found quite handy is
length–based free writing. Basically, the way it works is that instead of setting a time limit, you set yourself a length limit (say maybe one

As a student, I am aware of my susceptibility to many forms of improper writing techniques that hinder my ability to produce a well–written paper.
While I was aware of most of these incorrect practices, I found myself unfamiliar with many ideas covered in the preliminary chapters of Who Says?
The Writer's Research. Prior to reading chapters 1, 3, 4, and 9, I had never acknowledged the concept of information literacy and all of its various
components. Admittedly, I had previously regarded literacy as the ability to read and write, and never thought it could be a method of interpreting
information. Furthermore, I found the many ways in which plagiarism is manifested into a writing very interesting, as I had never been aware of other
forms of plagiarism besides copying a text word for word. While I found these ideas to be of tremendous value, I found the most efficient way to
create a thesis the most helpful, as I usually struggle with crafting a singular idea when I am producing an essay. With these tools for writing, I will
now be able to act preemptively to ensure a superior essay. Chapter one introduces information literacy– a concept I found notable. Information literacy
is defined as "the ability to know when there is a need for information, to be able to identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively use that information for the
issue or problem at hand (infolit.org, United States Government" (Holdstein 3) Furthermore, I found it interesting that information literacy is

Rhetoric Techniques In My Writing
Being exposed to new styles of writing isn't the easiest thing to adapt to and finding new techniques and how to use them is very difficult as well.
Understanding rhetorical devices helped create tight connections that readers can mesh with or relate to at a young age. I'm now able to link personal
connections in my writing as I've begun to experience new areas of life that the authors love to discuss. Even though it's not an easy process learning
new topics and forms of reading and literature, I began to do what was better for myself and practice some of that on my own time as I prepared for
the SAT test.
During sophomore year, we'd practice annotating, and analyzing poetry for inspirational purposes and to perfect our craft. Poetry is my

Techniques Used In My Writing
Your time, place, and tools are very essential when it comes to writing. In order for my paper to be a 100% perfect, I have to be in a certain
environment. For instance, being in my room with no distractions helps increase my thinking skills. My room is peaceful and quiet, which allows me
to focus on completing my assignments. Libraries and computer labs are not really my favorite places of writing because I do not feel as comfortable.
Also, sometimes the temperatures are not warmer than what I am use to and can control, so I can not concentrate. In addition, I would prefer not to
write in the mornings because I would not be as alert as I would be if I wrote an essay in the evening. Furthermore, I have more time to my self at
night. Daylight

Edgar Allan Poe 's Three Techniques for Dark Writing Edgar Allan Poe is a poet who makes his poetry very strong, dark and suspenseful; to do
this Poe uses imagery, mood and tone. These three techniques help create a feeling of horror. "The Cask of the Amontillado", " The Raven", and
"The Tale Tell Heart" are the three stories that show these techniques clearly. Imagery is represented to help the atmosphere have horror and it
helps the reader see what 's going on in the story. In "The Cask of the Amontillado" when Fortunato was being tied up, Montresor sat in bones and
watched Fortunato yell with desperation. Poe specifically added the lines "The noise lasted for several minutes, during which that I might
hearken to it with more satisfaction... and (I) sat down upon the bones." said by Montresor, to give that very dark feel, that what montresor is
doing was creepy by sitting and watching Fortunato suffer. "The Tell Tale Heart" used imagery when the guy killed the old man and cut off his
body in parts, "...First I cut off the head , then the legs. I was careful not to let a single drop of blood fall on the floor." Poe made this imagery because
you can imagine how crazy he was by cutting off his arm and legs. "The Raven" also has the same effect, sort of like a crazy dark feel in the imagery.
The writer was at the door because someone was tapping on the door he went to go answer, but there was no one there; "...here I open wide the door;–
/ Darkness there, and nothing more."

Essay on Learning Strategies
Learning Strategies
The new year begins and Learning Strategies is on your schedule. Truly, you are probably not knowing what to expect and you think that this class
is not for you. Boy, are you wrong. This class will save you plenty of time, so you better listen closely. At the end, you will leave the class wondering
why no one ever showed me this. So listen up! The three most useful things that I learned in this class are: my learning style, how to take notes when
reading a textbook, and how to be a more successful student at college.
If you know your learning style, college will be easier. "If you discover how you process information best, you can learn things both more efficiently
and in less time" (Hopper, Practicing College...show more content...
When you learn how you study best, learning can finally take place. You won't have to struggle to find a way that works for you; you will know how
to get by.
Taking notes in a textbook will seem strange at first. And frankly, it will take a lot of time. However, if you learn how to use this technique efficiently,
you will never have to reread a chapter. Wow! Thatsure sounds nice. So you want to know how to do this? I won't ruin the learning portion designed
for class, but I will tell you a secret or two. Or, should I say, I will allow you to see a small preview. First, preview the chapter. Look at headings, bold
words, captions, pictures and sub–headings. Then, start with paragraph one. However, don't read with a high–lighter. At the end of the paragraph, Stop,
think about what was just read. Write a question in the margin and underline the answer in text. Do this for the entire chapter. Like I said, it is very
time consuming. Now when you need to review, cover up the text and say question out loud. Try to answer it without looking at the underline material.
Review after reading the chapter, before classes, and

Chapter 6 Importance And Techniques
Chapter 6 discusses the importance and techniques of structuring your writing for your readers. To properly structure your writing for its' intended
audience you need to understand your audience. Factors such as education level, position, title, and more must be taken into account while structuring
your writing. Memos, letters, even emails are structured differently depending on their recipients. I have learned through my own experience, that
incorrectly structuring your writing can be very detrimental to your appearance to others and in some cases it can be very embarrassing. However on
the opposite side of the spectrum, if you structure your writing in such a manner that it is to simple to your audience, you give the impression that you

Writing Techniques That Appeal to Readers Essay
Writing Techniques That Appeal to Readers
Anyone who will be required to write at any time, no matter what the function of the writing, should learn good writing techniques that appeal to
readers. Every type of writing should possess something that will draw the reader into the words to make the reader feel that he can relate to what he
reads. Many techniques can accomplish this goal of writing. Diction, organization, description, and titles are all key parts of an essay that combine the
author's thoughts and teelings in an effective manner.
Diction plays and extremely crucial role in all forms of writing. Word choice can make an essay –– whether it is illustrative, narrative, or persuasive ––

She does this by using examples from the past to back her main ideas. In the essay, "Unlikely Learning," Mary Kemmerer uses chronological order to
explain how she passes her day in school. Danielle Trasciatti's essay, "Blue Band Emotional High" uses some spacial organization although the primary
development is chronological. The author uses smaller, minor points to support the main idea. Through the use of these forms of arrangement, the
authors effectively expressed their points in a very clear and discemible manner.
Another aspect that makes writing good is description. Description not only makes reading more enjoyable, but helps the reader feel as if he or
she is involved in what is going on in the essay. It also adds life and reality to the writing. One essay that uses good description is "Blue Band
Emotional High." Danielle Trasciatti uses description to paint a mental picture and helps the reader feel part of the experience. She does it with
description like, "the smell of the dirt mixed with sweat filled the hot and humid air. Chalk was floating around everywhere and was smeared all
over the dirt around the 25 yard line." Description brings the reader in and keeps him reading . A piece of writing would be incredibly boring if there
would be no description to interest the reader and help him create his own picture of what is being

Writing Technique And Sentence Structure

  • 1. Writing Technique And Sentence Structure MWP4 Final Writing is a tool used in many subjects, and it has a great deal of importance in our society. In this article written by Fish, the reader is given his perspective on what a writing course should encompass. Fish begins the article by pointing out the problem with english composition classes today. On the first page he mentions how one day ,while grading papers, he noticed that his graduate students did not write clean proper sentences. Fish took it upon himself to find out why students lack simple writing skills and how english composition professors can fix it? After finding the answers to his questions Fish came to the conclusion that the only way to teach writing is by focusing on technique and sentence structure. He believes that once a student masters the skills it takes to write then they can write successfully. Writing is used daily and it is important that we master the ability. Fish has a good argument that supports the focus on writing technique, but he misses the importance of other writing factors such as evidence, audience, and rhetoric. Fish is no amauetur when it comes to writing or teaching writing. In the second part of the article he gives the reader a resume showing off his full writing career. It is clear that he puts high importance on writing. While he searched for a better way to teach students how to write, he came to the realization that focusing on writing for the sole purpose of writing is the best way to improve. The ACTA also agrees Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay On Content Writing Techniques There are many different writing techniques one can utilize when content writing for a webpage. Marketing products online is vastly different than the writing you would see in a novel. Visitors to a web page typically spend less than 30 seconds on that page before moving to the next one, so you have to make your content snappy and to the point! The more time they have to waste searching for the information they need the less chance you have of selling your products. Webpage design and content are crucial factors when it comes toonline marketing. Not only do you have to factor in what your readers want to see, however you have to hit keywords so that your site will get a good ranking when it is put through a search engine algorithm. This...show more content... If you're wondering why this would be so important, 60% of the first clicks in a search engine are accounted for in the first five results. This means if you want to get customers on your webpage, you better utilize SEO. If you are serious about boosting your webpage, Eminent SEO has great tips on how to improve your SEO and can even do it for you. They can help with anything from marketing, SEO and content writing to give your site more visibility. Writing for your web page audience First rule, never try and get too fancy. Typically, people will briefly skim through your web page, meaning it's likely that all those creative minute ideas that popped into your head were not even put to good use. Research actually suggests that only 16% of readers read every page on a web site. Many people are online because they are in a rush; they want their information now. They don't want to have to sift through line after line of creative writing to find the information they are looking for. Granted, as a writer there can be a fine balance to this, as you don't want to become a robot writer. Adding in some creativity here and there can add interesting aspects to a webpage. However, for the most part you want to keep it as simple as possible for your information–hungry audience. Secondly, make sure you are writing for a lazy audience. Now I do not want to stereotype a lot of online users, but the easier something can Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Pre Writing Techniques Essay PRE WRITING TECHNIQUES Prewriting is the first stage of the writing process, typically followed by drafting, revision, editing and publishing. Elements of prewriting may include planning, research, outlining, diagramming, storyboarding or clustering etc. Prewriting is important because it helps you generate ideas for writing. Some of the prewriting techniques are: 1. Outlining 2. Free Writing 3. Thinking maps 4. Cubing 5. Directed Questioning 6. Note making and note taking 7. Brain storming 8. Clustering 9. Charting 10. Scanning The detail of each skill along with its examples is given below. 1. Outlining An outline is a document that briefly summarizes the information that will be included in a paper, book, speech, or...show more content... Note taking is a technique which is used when a person is reading or hearing something for the first time and he is trying to jot down the key information so he can use it later. Note making is when you return to those notes and make notes on them. This means you just go through notes, put things into your own words or summarize them and highlight key points. This technique is useful while gathering information for a respective article from books and lectures etc. Examples: 1. This technique is helpful when you are going to study a language other than you mother tongue. Because it is not easy to remember a lot of knowledge and vocabulary of the secondary language in one attempt. So there will be a need to read it again to learn and remember more about new language. 2. If you are attending a technical lecture (e.g. related to some machine or something else), it is a good practice to make lecture notes because you might need them to make comprehensive understanding of the topic.
  • 4. 7. Brainstorming It means thinking of as many ideas as possible in a short amount of time. Brainstorming involves capturing all of the thoughts, ideas, and fragments in your head and writing them down on paper. Brainstorming is an informal way of generating topics to write about, or points to make about your topic. The important point about brainstorming is that there should be no Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. The Art Techniques And Styles Compare contrast essay The two artists I have chosen to compare and contrast have recently exhibited work at the tate modern they are Antony Gormley 's untitled piece he predominantly uses additive sculpture as his preferred medium and Anish Kapoor`s Ishi's Light he uses additive sculpture as well to create work. Anish Kapoor produces art in a very personal way through abstract expressionism. This is shown through the representation of his emotion within his art but done in such as a way as to be abstract, allowing a viewer to interpret it in there own way. I also want to use Pablo Picasso so as to look into other art forms different to the 3 dimensional sculptural work as well as giving further comparison between the two art forms and offer a different perspective on my two chosen artists' work. In this essay I will analyse each of the art techniques and styles these artists experiment with. I am going to look at individual pieces of artwork and compare and contrast the two. I will also be looking at the different influences that could have affected or inspired each artist 's work, and the different way in which their art contributes to fine art as a whole, through younger student development and the way their work can be interpreted. There are two main types of sculpture, subtractive and additive. Subtractive sculpture is the oldest form of sculpture and involves removing material, as in wood carving or stone sculpture. Antony Gormley and Anish Kapoor have both Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay on Learning Writing Techniques Over the past few months, I have learned several different writing techniques. While all of the different types of papers were difficult to write, I believe that my writing skills have improved. However, I did not understand all of the assignments, but I did try to do my best on all of them. I should have used more transitional words. It is true that I have not had very much writing experience and the writing process is difficult for me. Sometimes, I do admit, it takes days to complete one assignment. I also have to write an essay several times before it sounds right. I did not know where to place a comma in a sentence, and had quite a few run–on sentences. I also learned how to do effective research on a subject. Additionally, I learned...show more content... In addition, I did not consider the amount of research that I needed to make an effective argument. In the middle of the assignment, I wanted to abandon it. I am glad that I continued writing it though. Research in the library labs was very helpful and informative. The techniques that I learned helped me find web sites that were not biased. I felt that most of the research has creditable information. Many people make web sites that are not credible and it is always good to select scholarly sources when writing research papers for school. When one researches a subject, you should always keep good records. I am a disorganized person, and very careless. Sometimes during the research process, I lose information that I researched. Although, the paper was quite confusing at times, I felt I did a good job. I am also quite surprised how well this paper turned out and believe, other people might confirm the improvement of my essays. I have completed the paper. In order to accomplish this, I used organization, better use of punctuation, and transitional words. Furthermore, I did not understand an effective quote sandwich. The second assignment was difficult for me. For example, when quoting someone, one should write something such as: Balko points out that, he is upset with insurance companies (Balko 158 ). This effectively introduces who is saying what. In addition, it is an example of a paraphrase, because I am using my own words. However, Mr. Balko, failed to do this in his Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Memory Technique Essay Have you ever noticed how hard it can be to remember something in class especially for a test? Many students have trouble identifying why they have trouble recalling. A lot of the problem could very well be what forms of techniques they are using to study. To be able to find the best way to study a student needs to realize the ways in which information is stored. It is the goal of this paper to help students to better study and identify ways in which they can achieve this. The paper will include how information is made into a memory, how study habits can affect this by using my own example, and showcase three recommendations that psychologists have given for effective studying. These being effective note taking, the keyword technique,...show more content... So, a professor armed with this knowledge will present information in multiple ways to insure that there information makes the transition to short term memory. Feldman refers to this period of continuous exposure to information as rehearsal (Feldman, 2009). If a professor is successful, this transition will take place. To retain and keep information there and even moving it into long term memory takes even more rehearsal, also known to most as studying. It is this process in which we will elaborate on and explain why they are the methods that work most effectively. The first suggestion in helping aide in retention that we will discuss is effective note taking. This may sound simple to write down information however, it takes practice to do it effectively. The text suggests operating on the Less is more rule (Feldman, 2009). This phrase means to take notes that help facilitate recall, listen to the lecture and write down just the key points such as new terms, or definitions. This is a huge change from what I was taught in high school. The method that I was taught was to literally write down everything that sounded important from the lecture that was given. This ineffective method forced me to have to reread the text and then study my notes to pick out information that wasn't covered in the reading. Eventually, I learned to take notes before the lecture, and then use the notes Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay Comparing Two Writing Techniques Techniques in writing Albert Einstein once said, "You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war." Writers frequently use figurative language to demonstrate and emphasize what they wish the audience to acknowledge. Irony is a situation in which the opposite happened rather than what is expected. Imagery is a figurative language that uses the five senses to represent an idea. Structure is how the writer organized his lines. Many writers use irony, imagery, and structure in their writings to protest war. One of the techniques that the authors use to prove and emphasize an idea is by irony. During the war, soldiers "tumbled in the yellow trenches/ Raged at [their] breast, gulped, and died... War is kind" (Crane 13–16). This shows irony due to the fact that war is never kind for it ends innumerable, innocent lives. The soldier's mother is "so happy and proud because... [his son] made people crumple" and ended their lives (Powers 9–10). It is ironic that his mother, who is a Christian, is...show more content... Because of the obstacles of the war, the author "have said [he] wanted to die... wanting to be asleep forever" (Powers 1–2). There is only one long sentence because the author did not use any periods. This shows how Powers' writing is a chaos, and how the war have made the author broken. Fighting in a war is rigorous "[b]ecause the land was mined and booby–trapped... Because [anyone] could die... Because the nights were cold" (O'Brien 10–14). The author keeps repeating "because" to acknowledge the readers concerning the matter of the harsh, painful idea of war. Whitman has said the phrase: "Beat! beat! drums! – blow! bugles! Blow!" multiple times in his poem (1). Whitman keeps repeating the phrase to let readers know that once someone fight in a war, they would never forget everything, even the terrific sound effects of the bombs and rifles. • 9. Free Writing Technique I have always preferred the listing method, so I completed the free writing technique for contrast. While free writing on the topic, I felt like I was doing really well, and thought that I might actually prefer free writing over the listing technique. Once I had completed my free writing, I realized that I had told a story on the subject, which was performed very narrowly minded, not leaving me any mind broadening ideas. What I decided to do next was, list ideas and words that pertained to the subject. This technique was head over shoulders more suitable for me, one word lead to another idea, then another. Even though I personally prefer the listing technique, I think that I found positive points in both, and also negative points. I noticed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. My Writing Techniques During this semester in Writing Workshop, I learned many writing techniques that helped improve my writing. I learned how to research topics effectively and use scholarly sources instead of popular sources. I learned how to conduct an interview and developed problem solving skills. All of these techniques helped me develop my final solution to the issue I chose to research. In high school, when my teacher told me to research a topic and write an essay on it, I would go to Google and type in the topic. Once Google provided me with millions of hits, I usually chose the first one and used it. Also, I would use Wikipedia. Wikipedia contains information about topics, but people can edit those pages and put false information. At the beginning of my second semester, I started to learn about scholarly sources. Scholarly sources usually come from an expert or doctor. These experts and doctors take the time to research the topic and provide it to the public. Using scholarly sources helps improve your argument or viewpoint. Sources such as CNN, CBS, and NBC are popular sources and do not...show more content... We assume stuff every day. When we assume things, we usually do not realize that we just assumed something. For example, every morning when somebody gets up and go outside to start their car, they assume it will start. I do it every morning. I do not walk outside and expect it not to start. When solving a problem we assume things and to make our solution strong we need to get rid of those assumptions. During this second semester, I learned about many techniques that enhanced my writing. I cannot believe that my first year of college is over because it seems like yesterday I attended my first class. I will use this techniques throughout the rest of my life to make my paper stronger and more professional. As I continue to learn I will add techniques I learn in the future to make my writing even stronger. I believe my writing is strong, but can Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Teaching Techniques for Different Learning Styles As teachers we will be faced with many difficult tasks one of which will be finding creative ways to motivate the children in our classes to learn. There are so many teaching techniques it may be overwhelming for new teachers. With the emphasis on test scores and the "No Child Left Behind" Act many teachers may fear being creative in the classroom. This paper will attempt to explore some creative teaching techniques. Recently there has been much discussion about different learning styles. As teachers it is important that we try to teach to all the styles in order for the children in our classes to be motivated to learn. Flexibility and creativity can aid teaching different learning...show more content... Some Tips for teaching auditory learners are: –Read instructions for assignments and tests out loud –Verbally explain charts and graphs –Brainstorm with the children –Have students work in small groups –Use music Music is an excellent way to increase language skills in auditory learners. Teachers can have the children write their own songs and use songs and rap as poetry to teach reading. Kinesthetic learners make up fifty percent of the population. Some tips for teaching kinesthetic learners are –Have the children make their own charts and graphs –Have plenty of opportunity for the children to "do" for themselves –Provide ample time for students to move around minimizing time sitting and listening –Make sure the children have some time to work out their energy (through recess or physical education) Science is an excellent area for kinesthetic learners. The most difficult thing for teachers to do is to balance the 3 styles to ensure that all students will feel motivated to learn. Teachers need to find a way to tailor their teaching styles to fit all types of learners in their classes. All children will benefit from being exposed to the different teaching styles that accompany the different learning styles. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In fact, I did not understand all of the assignments, but I did try to do my best on all of them. While I should have used more transitional words in between sentences and paragraphs, I feel that I learned a great deal. It is true that I have not had very much writing experience and the writing process is difficult for me. Sometimes, I do admit, it takes days to complete one assignment, but it will be worth it when I am a proficient writer. For example, the research paper was one of the most difficult assignments that I have ever written. I did...show more content... I did not introduce the person effectively. For example, when quoting someone, one should write something such: as Balko points out that, he is upset with insurance companies (Balko). This example is in my own words and is an example of a paraphrase. I quoted people and then would not write what I thought about the quote afterwards. When doing this in an essay, the teacher has no way of knowing what the student is trying to convey. A proper quote should start with an introduction. After the introduction, you have to say what the person has said, followed by what you think about what they said. After doing this, a student should cite the author by using parentheses. I did not know that a writer was supposed to do this. My first paper was very inadequate. Additionally, I also cited sources and then forgot where I got the information. However, the use of citing information and research was also one of my debilitating points. Nevertheless, I believe after the reminders, corrections, and proofreading that needed pointing out to me, helped me improve in this area. Research in the library labs were very helpful and informative in spotting web sites that were biased and did not have creditable information. Many people make web sites that are not credible and it is always good to select scholarly sources when writing research papers for school. When one researches a subject, you should always keep good records. I am a disorganized person, and lose Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Free Writing Technique I really understand your point about free writing and based upon looking at this thread it would seem that a lot of students also share some of your views regarding free writing. I think it's just that for some writing in a short period of time without using proper punctuation can be a bit difficult since in that respect you are throwing a key part of what you have learned about writing out the window in order to write like a mad man for ten minutes. However when it comes to free writing that is not the only technique that you can use as another free writing technique that I have found quite handy is length–based free writing. Basically, the way it works is that instead of setting a time limit, you set yourself a length limit (say maybe one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Prior to reading chapters 1, 3, 4, and 9, I had never acknowledged the concept of information literacy and all of its various components. Admittedly, I had previously regarded literacy as the ability to read and write, and never thought it could be a method of interpreting information. Furthermore, I found the many ways in which plagiarism is manifested into a writing very interesting, as I had never been aware of other forms of plagiarism besides copying a text word for word. While I found these ideas to be of tremendous value, I found the most efficient way to create a thesis the most helpful, as I usually struggle with crafting a singular idea when I am producing an essay. With these tools for writing, I will now be able to act preemptively to ensure a superior essay. Chapter one introduces information literacy– a concept I found notable. Information literacy is defined as "the ability to know when there is a need for information, to be able to identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively use that information for the issue or problem at hand (infolit.org, United States Government" (Holdstein 3) Furthermore, I found it interesting that information literacy is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Rhetoric Techniques In My Writing Being exposed to new styles of writing isn't the easiest thing to adapt to and finding new techniques and how to use them is very difficult as well. Understanding rhetorical devices helped create tight connections that readers can mesh with or relate to at a young age. I'm now able to link personal connections in my writing as I've begun to experience new areas of life that the authors love to discuss. Even though it's not an easy process learning new topics and forms of reading and literature, I began to do what was better for myself and practice some of that on my own time as I prepared for the SAT test. During sophomore year, we'd practice annotating, and analyzing poetry for inspirational purposes and to perfect our craft. Poetry is my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Techniques Used In My Writing Your time, place, and tools are very essential when it comes to writing. In order for my paper to be a 100% perfect, I have to be in a certain environment. For instance, being in my room with no distractions helps increase my thinking skills. My room is peaceful and quiet, which allows me to focus on completing my assignments. Libraries and computer labs are not really my favorite places of writing because I do not feel as comfortable. Also, sometimes the temperatures are not warmer than what I am use to and can control, so I can not concentrate. In addition, I would prefer not to write in the mornings because I would not be as alert as I would be if I wrote an essay in the evening. Furthermore, I have more time to my self at night. • 18. Edgar Allan Poe 's Three Techniques for Dark Writing Edgar Allan Poe is a poet who makes his poetry very strong, dark and suspenseful; to do this Poe uses imagery, mood and tone. These three techniques help create a feeling of horror. "The Cask of the Amontillado", " The Raven", and "The Tale Tell Heart" are the three stories that show these techniques clearly. Imagery is represented to help the atmosphere have horror and it helps the reader see what 's going on in the story. In "The Cask of the Amontillado" when Fortunato was being tied up, Montresor sat in bones and watched Fortunato yell with desperation. Poe specifically added the lines "The noise lasted for several minutes, during which that I might hearken to it with more satisfaction... and (I) sat down upon the bones." said by Montresor, to give that very dark feel, that what montresor is doing was creepy by sitting and watching Fortunato suffer. "The Tell Tale Heart" used imagery when the guy killed the old man and cut off his body in parts, "...First I cut off the head , then the legs. I was careful not to let a single drop of blood fall on the floor." Poe made this imagery because you can imagine how crazy he was by cutting off his arm and legs. "The Raven" also has the same effect, sort of like a crazy dark feel in the imagery. The writer was at the door because someone was tapping on the door he went to go answer, but there was no one there; "...here I open wide the door;– / Darkness there, and nothing more." Truly, you are probably not knowing what to expect and you think that this class is not for you. Boy, are you wrong. This class will save you plenty of time, so you better listen closely. At the end, you will leave the class wondering why no one ever showed me this. So listen up! The three most useful things that I learned in this class are: my learning style, how to take notes when reading a textbook, and how to be a more successful student at college. If you know your learning style, college will be easier. "If you discover how you process information best, you can learn things both more efficiently and in less time" (Hopper, Practicing College...show more content... When you learn how you study best, learning can finally take place. You won't have to struggle to find a way that works for you; you will know how to get by. Taking notes in a textbook will seem strange at first. And frankly, it will take a lot of time. However, if you learn how to use this technique efficiently, you will never have to reread a chapter. Wow! Thatsure sounds nice. So you want to know how to do this? I won't ruin the learning portion designed for class, but I will tell you a secret or two. Or, should I say, I will allow you to see a small preview. First, preview the chapter. Look at headings, bold words, captions, pictures and sub–headings. Then, start with paragraph one. However, don't read with a high–lighter. At the end of the paragraph, Stop, think about what was just read. Write a question in the margin and underline the answer in text. Do this for the entire chapter. Like I said, it is very time consuming. Now when you need to review, cover up the text and say question out loud. Try to answer it without looking at the underline material. Review after reading the chapter, before classes, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Chapter 6 Importance And Techniques Chapter 6 discusses the importance and techniques of structuring your writing for your readers. To properly structure your writing for its' intended audience you need to understand your audience. Factors such as education level, position, title, and more must be taken into account while structuring your writing. Memos, letters, even emails are structured differently depending on their recipients. I have learned through my own experience, that incorrectly structuring your writing can be very detrimental to your appearance to others and in some cases it can be very embarrassing. However on the opposite side of the spectrum, if you structure your writing in such a manner that it is to simple to your audience, you give the impression that you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 21. Writing Techniques That Appeal to Readers Essay Writing Techniques That Appeal to Readers Anyone who will be required to write at any time, no matter what the function of the writing, should learn good writing techniques that appeal to readers. Every type of writing should possess something that will draw the reader into the words to make the reader feel that he can relate to what he reads. Many techniques can accomplish this goal of writing. Diction, organization, description, and titles are all key parts of an essay that combine the author's thoughts and teelings in an effective manner. Diction plays and extremely crucial role in all forms of writing. Word choice can make an essay –– whether it is illustrative, narrative, or persuasive –– more easily understood....show more content... She does this by using examples from the past to back her main ideas. In the essay, "Unlikely Learning," Mary Kemmerer uses chronological order to explain how she passes her day in school. Danielle Trasciatti's essay, "Blue Band Emotional High" uses some spacial organization although the primary development is chronological. The author uses smaller, minor points to support the main idea. Through the use of these forms of arrangement, the authors effectively expressed their points in a very clear and discemible manner. Another aspect that makes writing good is description. Description not only makes reading more enjoyable, but helps the reader feel as if he or she is involved in what is going on in the essay. It also adds life and reality to the writing. One essay that uses good description is "Blue Band Emotional High." Danielle Trasciatti uses description to paint a mental picture and helps the reader feel part of the experience. She does it with description like, "the smell of the dirt mixed with sweat filled the hot and humid air. Chalk was floating around everywhere and was smeared all over the dirt around the 25 yard line." Description brings the reader in and keeps him reading . A piece of writing would be incredibly boring if there would be no description to interest the reader and help him create his own picture of what is being Get more content on HelpWriting.net
