6. Due to rising numbers traffic hurdles faced
by vehicles, reaching destination on time is
a challenge.
People being in the same city for more than
few decades could not predict the peak
hours of traffic, so they could not avoid
them.
People traveling to a new city finds it difficult
to commute within the city on their vehicles
as they wouldn't know the traveling options/
routes in that particular city.
Ease of travelling
7. Problem Analysis
Problem Analysis is a structured approach for
identifying problems and their root causes to
ensure that attention is focused upon the real
issues.
8. Problem Analysis
Lets know what the problem is?
● What is the problem?
● Who is facing the problem?
● Why is it important to solve the problem?
● When and where does the problem occur?
● What are the existing solutions for the problem?
● What are the users complaining about the existing solutions / how are the
existing solutions addressing the problem?
9. Empathy Map
An empathy map is a collaborative visualization
used to articulate what we know about a
particular type of user.
14. 5 Why Analysis
Five whys is an iterative interrogative technique used to
explore the cause-and-effect relationships underlying a
particular problem. The primary goal of the technique is
to determine the root cause of a defect or problem by
repeating the question "Why?".

21. Difficulty in travelling in the city and reaching the destination on time.
Lot of traffic
Why?
Most people travel in private vehicles
Why?
They may have to use different modes
of travel to reach the destination.
Why?
A lot of time is consumed in finding
timings and availability of vehicles.
Why?
They do not have access to timings and
different modes of transports available

Hello Everyone,
Welcome to 9th day of your course on entrepreneurial mindset!
In our last session we understood how to conduct interview by having mock interviews where we tried to review our approach.
Also I hope all have finished their field visits and got valuable insights related to the problem.
In this session we will try to analyse the problem based on the informations received during field visit.
So now, since we are trying to find the root cause of the problem, we are thinking convergly.
Hence , we are in the define phase of design thinking.
So for today’s exercise we will take the case study of travelling.
<Ask any of the students to explain the case study>
<Then you can brief a little bit>
Problem Analysis is a structured approach for identifying problems and their root causes to ensure that attention is focused upon the real issues.
By the end of problem analysis we should be able to answer these questions.
<Briefly explain what each question mean>
So one the tool which we discussed in our previous session is Empathy map which is used to find the root cause.
We will be using this template to do empathy mapping.
Here, we are trying to sort the data collected during field visit. These datas include inputs given by the stakeholder as well as data received by personal observation.
Okay now let’s create Empathy map on the case study.
Since you haven’t done field visit on this problem, try to fill this data by your experience and assumptions, but later when you are creating empathy map on you chosen problem, you’ll be doing it based on the data collected during field visit.
You’ll be getting 15 mins to create your Empathy map.
And your time starts now.
<Show this if student are stuck in between, if not show it at the end of 15mins>
This is one example of the empathy map which was done for the travelling case study.
5 Why Analysis is another tool which is used to find the root cause of a problem.
In this method we mainly ask question ‘why’ repeatedly until we reach the root cause of the problem.
To understand how to use 5 Why analysis, let’s take the case study of TItanic.
Today, let’s try to solve the mystery behind titanic sinking using 5 why analysis.
Let’s start with 1 why analysis.
Why did the titanic sink?
Because shit hit the iceberg.
In this statement, there no much details.
But for the same if we try 3 why analysis,
That is,
Why did the titanic sink?
Because water filled the hull.
Why?
Because there was opening in the hull.
Why?
Because the ship hit the iceberg.
So in 3 why analysis we got some more details on the incident.
Now if we move to 5 why analysis,
Okay now in 5 why analysis,
Why did the titanic sink?
Because water filled the hull.
Why?
Because of opening in the hull.
Why there was opening?
Because ship hit the iceberg.
Why did it hit the iceberg?
Because ship turn was ineffective.
Why turn was ineffective?
Because lookouts identified it late.
So in this case, the problem was with the operation that they identified the iceberg late.
Now if they consider another scenario and try asking questions,
Why did the titanic sink?
Because water filled the hull.
Why?
Because of opening in the hull.
Why there was opening?
Because ship hit the iceberg.
Why did it hit the iceberg?
Because ship turn was ineffective.
Why turn was ineffective?
Because speed of the ship was more.
So in this case, the problem was with the management.
Now if they consider another scenario and try asking questions,
Why did the titanic sink?
Because water filled the hull.
Why?
Because of opening in the hull.
Why there was opening?
Steel plates pulled apart.
Why did they pull apart?
Because strength of the overlapping joints was less.
Why ?
Because strength of the rivets was less.
So in this case, the problem was with the design team..
Okay now in 6 why analysis,
We will combine both the situation of Management and operations.
In 9 why analysis, we will combine all the three.
Okay now let's try to do a 5 why analysis on the case study of travel.
You’ll be getting 10 mins to complete this.
Your time starts now.
<Show this in between the 10 mins if students seem stuck , orelse show at the end>
This is a example of a 5 why analysis.
Task for the week is to create Empathy map and 5 why analysis on the chosen problem and go through the learning material.
