2. Genre
Our Trailer, Poster and Magazine
cover all have a very similar ident.
The elements we used to show our
film as a very similar was the use
of colour, text and style of actors.
If you look at gangster/crime genre
films they all have a very similar
element.
Scarface
Legend
Rivals (our film)
Here you can see we’ve tried to follow
the generic gangster film poster by
using bold writing and bold colours like
black and red. Also the man holding a
gun gives away a massive idea of what
the film may be about which is
crime/gangster film and that violence
could/will be involved, also the idea of
the person in suit which gives the
stereotype, typical gangster look
3. NarrativethemesCriminal activity and crime is our narrative
theme which is throughout our trailer, magazine
cover and if you look closely in our Poster we
all have a gun, clothing (braces, tie) which
tells the audience that this person is apart of
crime/criminal activity as that’s the
stereotypical view of a gangster, which we want
as crime/gangster is our genre. Also the title
has the same font throughout which again shows
the link between the poster, magazine cover and
teaser trailer. The title rivals itself could
present our narrative theme as gang and police
rivals in the past which is a big part of our
film. Also the title to be the same is very
important as the audience can identify easily
with the title and the same goes for the actors
also. You’ll want the main focused actor/s all in
the same poster, magazine and trailer as they
have majority of screen time, where if you have a
non-protagonist people could struggle to identify
with the film, poster etc.
4. Characters
Throughout our research we wanted
a male, dark/italian looking actor
as they are seen to represent a
character who is involved with
organisation crime in the
stereotypical view, for example
The Godfather, Scarface, Legend
etc. Not only did we look at
movies/magazines to get an idea of
an ideal gangster we also looked a
real life pictures and past
interviews of how they acted and
what they wore etc.
The real Kray twins in a interview
Tom Hardy as both Kray Twins
Al Pacino as Michael Corleone
This is a picture of ‘Frankie’ in rivals who is
the main criminal in the teaser trailer. As
you can see very similar to the other
actors/criminals. Tie, Slicked back hair,
braces.
5. Poster,MagazinecoverandTrailer
Throughout our media we wanted to keep the same
clothing/mise en scene and title as that’s what
people are most familiar with and can identify each
piece of media whether that is the film poster,
magazine cover or the trailer. For example in the
magazine cover, trailer and poster we had the same
clothing which was the white shirt and red braces
(stereotypical gangster look) and the title rivals.
Here on the right you have ‘rivals’ our film title that was
used throughout all media in our trailer, magazine cover
and film poster.
6. TargetAudience
A crime thriller of an American/English gangster film shows that the
higher percentage of views are from the ages between 15-24 years of
age and that's due to the enigma it appeals to a certain audience. For
example the action and thrill these films normally present attract the
audience, and also the stereotype of a male also due to the violent
and swearing that's normally in these gangster films. There's a stat
that 62% males prefer to watch american/english gangster films than
the minority of females is roughly 38%. Also class is a key element
on who watches our type of genre, in this case a 'gangster' film. The
interest shows to be from the upper average working class with 46%
if them preferring to watch gangster films, where as a roughly 20% of
upper class watch these types of films. And the rest is a class of
much less wealth.
