EL Program Teacher Qualifications
Share the vision and mission of OLCE.
Hold a Bilingual and/or ESL endorsement.*
Demonstrate knowledge of the CCSS, CPS Content Frameworks, WIDA, and the CPS Framework for
Teaching.
Be a reflective practitioner, and have a growth mindset with respect to one’s own learning.
Possess strong organizational and communication skills.
Advocate for high-quality instruction for all ELs.
Have high expectations, and believe that all ELs can succeed.
Be a champion for a culture of continuous improvement and a proactive problem solver.
Demonstrate knowledge of district policies and procedures for ELs.
Roles and Responsibilities
Program Coordination
Coordinate administration of the required English language proficiency screeners (W-APT, MODEL-K, Pre-IPT),
and enter scores in SIM/IMPACT.
Review EL rosters and ACCESS reports to assure that ELs are placed/transitioned appropriately in programs of
instruction.
Assist in the programming/changes in programming of ELs (High School).
Coordinate the distribution of the CPS Notice to Parent ( NCLB Letters) generated from IMPACT/SIM.
Collaborate with special education staff to ensure that ELs with IEPs are serviced appropriately and that the
service delivery model numbers are entered into IMPACT/SSM.
Update EL profiles on IMPACT/SIM in a timely manner.
Coordinate the administration of the ACCESS test within the designated time frame, and submit required
reports.
Maintain records of bilingual/ESL staff participation at two required professional development activities
related to ELs per year.
Coordinate and monitor the completion of all required documentation for all compliance visits.
Assist the administration in the submission of all forms requested by OLCE in a timely manner.
Attend all BLT working sessions (forums), and disseminate information among school administrators, teachers
in programs for ELs, and general education staff.
Monitor transitioned students’ progress for two years, and provide support when needed.
Collaborate with other staff regarding District Wide Assessment (DWA) pertaining to ELs.
Collaborate with Dual Language (Elementary)/World Language (High School) coordinators.
Instructional
Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding curriculum/instructional modifications.
Assist in developing and creating standard-based (CCSS & WIDA) unit/lesson plans.
Model/coach classroom teachers.
Assist with the selection of interventions for ELs for Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Assist in analyzing ELs’ work.
Support bilingual/ESL teachers as they align instruction with the CCSS and WIDA.
Share current research and best strategies in teaching ELs with the faculty.
Advisory
Assist administration and teachers with ongoing communication with parents of students in a program for
ELs.
Participate in IEP meetings, when necessary, and provide recommendation for ELs with IEPs.
Facilitate the establishment and operation of the Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC).
Provide input for teachers and principals regarding program implementation.
Act as a resource for general program teachers, teachers in programs for ELs, and all other stakeholders.
Collaborate with school administration in all areas related to programs for ELs.
Advise the administration on ordering and distribution of curricular materials for programs for ELs.
