3. Introduction
This trip takes us to the Kruger National Park
in South Africa where we observe the
process of natural selection. In the video clip
we observe the role of teamwork in
individual survival in relation to natural
selection.
4. Natural Selection
- Natural selection is about the survival of the
very fittest in their environment.
- Natural selection is one of the basic
mechanism of evolution along with mutation,
migration, and genetic mutation.
- In some instances, teamwork is essential to
assist individuals survive.
5. Teamwork
Teamwork is one of the tools that animal
species use to survive in the world. Animals,
just like scientists and other professionals, do
achieve more when they work as a team. An
effective and efficient team has the following
characteristics: good communication,
collaborated actions, problem solving skills,
respect, and shared goals.
6. Communication:
In a team each member communicates with
each other. Everyone freely shares his or her
opinions and ideas. Good communication
keeps the team informed and focused.
Collaboration:
Each member of the team uses his or her skills
to the best of their ability and their skills
complement each other. Feedback is given and
received constructively. Success is celebrated.
7. Problem Solving:
The team develops strategy for problem solving
and addressing conflicts within the members.
Leadership is shared among the members at
various times.
Respect:
Each person respects everyone even though
the members do not always have to agree in
atmosphere of honesty, accessibility,
acceptance and dependability.
8. Shared goals:
In a team, achievement of common goals
overrides individual gain. What is best for team
takes priority and team members should be
involved in establishing goals.
9. Observation of the video clip “the
battle at Kruger”
We take a trip on an African Safari to Kruger
National Park in South Africa. On the trip we
observe teamwork utilized in the natural
selection process. At the 2m:10s mark pause
the recording and predict what is going to
happen to the calf and at the end of the clip
compare your prediction to what actually
