2. 1. Description of our team
We are Galaxy group that has 5 members: Giang, Hải, Hoàng, Lan and Mai. All of us
learn about English Education and now we are junior in Faculty of Foreign
Languages. We have decided to work together because of having the same hobbies
and quite understanding about each member in the group. Hoàng has more
experiences and leadership qualities so we have elected him as the leader. Our
instructor is Mr. Huy, he is not only the teacher of Tourism Project but he is also our
great companion.
Galaxy group was created for the Tourism Project-one of our subject in studying
program. We hope that we can provide many interesting things about a beautiful
landscape of Thai Nguyen city, so we chosen the Museum of the Cultures of
Vietnamese Ethnic Groups to help other people know more about TN city.
Individual is an indispensable element in any work. Thus, every member plays an
important role in this project. We see that all members of the group are quite
confident, active, creative and enthusiastic. In addition, we also have skills of
designing website and making video. However, this is the first time we have learned
about Tourism so it is difficult to image what we have to do.
Based on the strengths and weaknesses of each member, our work was divided
equally. Each member found out the information about many galleries in the Museum
(specifically, Giang - Gallery 1; Hải - Gallery 2; Hoàng - Gallery 3; Lan - Gallery 4
and Mai-Gallery 5). Then, we were responsible for writing some contents, editing
them and adding more photos, videos about the own gallery. Besides, we made a
website and a guidebook with each other. The most important task was that we had to
present about the museum as tour guides and film the procedure of the tour. All
members in the group did this task.
2. Summary of our project
In this project, we chose Museum of Cultures of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups (the
MCVE) as our destination. It is known as a cultural house of 54 ethnic groups in
Vietnam which is located in the centre of Thai Nguyen city.
Three weeks after the beginning of English Excursion Project, we started studying our
destination. At the first time, it was very difficult for us to get what exactly we had to
do with the Museum and we met many difficulties. However, with our effort and
GroupNarrative
3. teacher’s guidance, we are completing our products. It’s really happy to see “our son”
after 10 weeks working hard together.
When we joined this project, we hoped that it could help us widen our knowledge,
improve our English skills as well as designing skill. The project is coming to the end
and we find out that we gained not only many amazing things as we hoped before but
also the way to work by ourselves and work in group.
And here is our procedure of working:

In our project, Mr. Huy (our instructor) helped us much give the ideas, give
suggestions about the place, the form, the structure of the tour. Also, he spent a lot of
time finding documents, magazines, pictures that relevant or quite similar to what we
do so we could gain many experiences in the process of making the project. First, he
suggested us some suitable places to make an interesting, effective and economic tour.
After we chose where to go, he gave us the construction of steps from start to end. We
had many assignments and exercises to do from the beginning of the term till now in
order to understand the importance of this course and improve writing skill in English.
When we had to make a guidebook- a small note for tourists to have a brief look about
the tour, Mr. Huy gave us some guidebooks for reference. That’s really a guiding light
which brought us a way to do it well because we had many creative ideas from those
books. We are very appreciating what he has done for us.
We also want to say thank to Mr. Bill and Mrs. Sue-American teachers of Faculty of
Foreign languages who spent the whole raining Saturday morning to go with us to
make a real tour. On that amazing Saturday morning, they took a taxi to come to the
museum on time (because it had a heavy downpour), we had a small talk before
starting the tour. They were really true tourists, not the people who only want to help
us finish the course. They listened carefully all what we said about the cultures of
every ethnic group in Vietnam. They showed the tenderness and the happiness
enjoying the tour as they gained much more knowledge about Vietnamese people,
moreover they did not mind sharing the similarities and differences between the
cultures of our two countries. Although we were the tour-guides, we received much
7. precious knowledge from our two guests that day. Once again, thank you so much our
teachers.
With their help, after 13 weeks preparing for the tour, we successfully designed the
guidebook about the Thai Nguyen museum and many interesting places near-by.
Besides, we are all satisfied with the real tour because it brought us not only
experiences but inspiration to make another one also. We will be back with a better
production next time.
3. Problems We Had To Overcome
Problem is an inseparable part of our project. If there were no problems, we are just
machines which every activity was set up, installed and we do not need to think about
anything or care about finding solutions. If there were no problems, we can’t grow up.
Weather does not support us anyway. It rained cats and dogs overtime and this made
us hard to place our plant on its way. Almost whenever we planted to hold group
discussion or collect information or go to our destination, it did rain heavily and the
dirty roads prevented us from getting together also. Rain was blame for delaying the
Internet; even sometimes it was disconnected, so it was impossible for us to meet
online through Skype or Facebook.
Other nice days, we had to go to school to study other subjects or finish some
assignments, homework. However, we decided to choose a week and focused on
nothing but completing our plants and other things were left on one side. Afterschool,
we gathered up and tried to fill in all blanks left behind. Each one had a certain duty
such as collecting information, designing, taking pictures, writing description…
Sometimes, we completed our duty together. Arguments could not be prevented from
happening in any ways. But after all, we did make our decisions and every member
was happy about that. A light meal with yoghurt, bread, cookies, and fruits was a
favourable choice of us after a hard-working day.
We are not good at IT, especially designing, so we had to learn from the Internet, our
friends, teachers. We had no idea about what a Guidebook is and how to make one.
Mr. Huy, our instructor, gave us a Guidebook, taught us principles of designing, and
shared some idea to design our Guidebook. From that time, we could imagine what
the Guidebook, the product we want to make in this course, looks like. We designed,
edited, and changed it overtime. We went to photocopy store, printed out production
but sometimes the colours were not really what we expected or the size of printed
product was not the same as what we designed. We repeated the sentence “Do it
again, make it better”. After all, for us, we made a good one.
8. It was really a pity that some invited tourists could not go with us. They are some
Filipino guys studying at SFL now. They accepted our invitation and said that they
were happy to go with us. They showed that they really appreciate what we did to
them. Unfortunately, on the day we decided to make a real tour, it rained heavily
again. A Filipino guy said that: “The weather really bothers us and we don’t have
enough bikes as means of transportation. We are really prepared for this day but there
were just unexpected circumstances. That’s were out big problems”. We suggested
calling a taxi to pick them up but they did not want us to do that and they decided to
not to go with us. If we had known their problems the day before, we could have
found the solutions. We could delay out tour anymore because two other tourists, Mr.
Bill and his wife were waiting us to start the tour. And that was the reason why our
tour had only two guys, Mr. Bill and Mrs. Sue but it did not matter. We had a good
time together and our tour, for us and invited tourists, was amazing and interesting.
After all the problems, we realized that unexpected situations did not kill us at all, it
made our group stronger. Everything is not often as it ought to be, but if we can solve
the issues and make everything on its right way, we really did a good job. What does
not kill us make us better. Success of our team resulted from effort of each member.
We are happy that finally we did what we desire.
4. What information tools & technologies did you used to
complete project?
To complete our project, we used many informative and technological tools. We got
information about our destination from the Internet and some websites such as:
http://vietlandmarks.com/module/groups/action/view/id/743,
http://www.lukhach24h.com/listing/bao-tang-van-hoa-cac-dan-toc-viet-
nam.html,
http://mcve.org.vn/detail/tabid/288/view/news/group/238/child/255/id/478/langua
ge/vi-VN/Default.aspx, https://www.google.com.vn/ …
We also got information from a book named The Museum of the cultures of
Vietnamese ethnic groups. Youtube.com was used to search videos about how to
become a tour guide. We designed our website one
http://www.weebly.com/weebly/main.php, introduced our group on
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Galaxy-Group/602831746466348. Gmail was
used to transfer documents, materials, links…
Laptops, USB, mobile phone, camera are indispensable things when doing our project.
Some useful technological tools used are PowerPoint 2010, Microsoft Word 2010,
PDF, Colorpicker, Picasa, Proshow Producer 5.0, Photoshop, Fotomix, Fotor, Picture
9. Collage Maker Pro, Idglamour Portable… These software really helped us to do what
we desire, especially PowerPoint 2010. It was always the main tool to design the
Guidebook. We found that PowerPoint is powerful and helpful because of its
applications. Without this simple one, we could not make our dream come true. Other
tools or software were sometimes used to support PowerPoint to complete our duties
in better ways.
5. Discoveries, lessons and surprises.
Through this project, we got lots of things that we haven’t had before. Firstly, we had
an opportunity to work as visitors and then, tour guides. We had thought that it would
be boring to talk about our destination (museum), but we completely changed it after.
The more we discovered the museum, the more interesting we found. As a result, all
we needed like knowledge, skills (listening, writing, summarizing, speaking and
working in group) could be improved and our real tour was successful. EEX gave us a
chance to experience an amazing job – being tour guides. We believed that this was a
choice added to our career list; it was absolutely possible to be tour guides besides
being teachers. Furthermore, some members of our group also found their ability in
design. Many websites for designing have been introduced by our teacher and those
would be really effective tools for us. Now, we understand that nothing is impossible
if we have desire and work hard.
Secondly, learning how to overcome the difficulties is one of our biggest lessons from
this project. Challenges and difficulties are obvious things. It seemed that we had to
stop when facing to many problems on time, plan, weather, etc. One member in our
group had joked that we should quit and learn this subject in next term when seeing
other groups completing their products day by day. Even sometimes, the differences in
ideas among members made us too tired and bored. But finally, we tried and passed
all with the encouragement from teacher and leader. We realized that spirit and
patience are super important. We lose them which means we surrender.
Last but not least, our group had a wonderful time when we not only worked together
but learnt and helped mutually also. This project strengthened our friendship and
brought us a lot of memories in our student lives. In addition, all members of our
group felt more love for our country, our people as being very proud of our aged-old
history and culture.
