I. Project overview:
1.Description of our team
Our group has five members: Binh, Thanh, Nhung, Yen and Van. We are
students in English Education K34 of the Faculty of Foreign Languages
– Thai Nguyen University. In the first week of English Excursion subject,
our teacher – Mr. Huy asked everyone to work in groups of 4-5 people
together during this course. That is the reason why we are here today to
report the working process of our group – the process lasts 15 weeks. In
that week, our teacher also introduced the general requirement of this
subject to the whole class and asked the groups to choose a destination
that we like. First of all, we were nervous about this subject and did not
know what we have to do with subject. However, with some experiences
in working in group, we had a meeting in that weekend to discuss and
divide the task for each member in our group. Our final destination is
Tay Thien that has been chosen in many choices. Then, we decided to
include five parts in our project: description of Tay Thien,
transportations, hotels, activities and cuisines, Temple systems. After
that, we divided the tasks into small parts as follows:
2. - Nhung: find information about description of Tay Thien includes
general information about it.
- Binh: find information about transportations and hotels in Tay Thien. It
means how to get in Tay Thien and how to travel inside Tay Thien.
- Van: find information about cuisines in Tay Thien and the typical
services that are served in it.
- Thanh and Nhung: find information and images about activities in Tay
Thien.
- Thanh, Yen, Binh, Van: Find information and imagines about some
main temples in Tay Thien such as : Thong temple, Cau and Co temple,
Upper temple… and other pagodas: Thien An pagoda, Tay Thien
pagoda…
- According to our teacher’s instruction, we also made an action plan
that shows what we had to do in each week. After having information,
we selected main and necessary information to write detail parts as well
as design brochure for each part. Besides that, we had to submit our
writing to Mr.Huy and thank her to check and give us some useful
advices about how to design brochure, and how to arrange information
suitably in our project to make it better.
2.Summary of our project
We tried to introduce an overview of description about Tay Thien
destination in our project. This place is famous for not only the system
of temple and pagoda systems but also peaceful landscapes. We
mentioned to typical factors that are usually cared by visitors when
coming there. In the first part – description of travel destination, we
talked about temples and pagodas in Tay Thien, activities,
transportation, and hotels and landscapes… that may help you
understand this area generally and prepare some necessary things
before traveling. In part 2 and part 3, we gave some suggestions about
transportations and accommodations that are very essential for you
since you go away. Next, we introduced some famous beautiful places
in which you can take part in activities and enjoy the famous unique
dishes in this land. Besides providing the useful information, we also
gave the pictures to illustrate for each item to help you have an honest
look about Tay Thien.
3. In each part, we used clear items and inserted the lively pictures by
using tools in Microsoft office such as Microsoft word and Microsoft
PowerPoint to make our project more vividly. After referring some
sources from teacher’s sample and Internet, we tried to arrange our
project in a suitable and acceptable way and learn the helpful
experience for ourselves when designing a brochure. We really feel
more and more interesting in this subject now, and hope that our
product will make you surprised and satisfied!
3.The problem we had to overcome
In fact, It was so difficult for us to make a perfect product without having
any obstacles. All of us realized that: “the more we do, the more
successful we are”. We could not refuse to get some barriers in all the
process of building the project.
To be honest, we had a difficulty in deciding the destination at the
beginning of the tasks, just because of the different ideas, that were
debated by all the members in our group. However, we believed that: it
would not be better if we kept going on rejection the personal
conception. And we dialed with this problem by choosing a place
immediately.
Later days, we had to hold a large number of assignments with the
limited time by our teacher. In addition, we were required to complete
other exercises, at one point. That were the majority reasons why we
were full of cares and got stressed. It was the time for us to stand by
each other in order to work together and give the encouragement.
Another reason was that there were some members living far from our
school. Therefore, we made the online meetings by using face book,
yahoo, zing me ,..Also, we had objection to design our brochure like
picking up the images, form and contents containing in the brochure.
Moreover, we got the barriers in finding out the reliable printing facilities
after completing the perfect product in computer. There was an
inarticulate trouble in sizes. We must explore a lot of facilities in around
Thai Nguyen city before carrying out publishing the brochure. Luckily,
God blessed us, we discovered an only address in which could respond
our exigency. Every thing became more easily for us. Finally, we
overcame all.
4. 4. REQUIRED SKILLS FOR IMPLEMENTING OUR PROJECT
This project is about tourism, so we needed to learn various skills to
carry out it. Group-work is considered as the first important skill we
needed to learn. Working in a group of five people, we must know how
to listen, share ideas and cooperate in different tasks with the other
members, especially, how to assign all the work equally for each
member basing on their strength. The next skill we had to master is
information processing skill. In this project we had to use a large
amount of data in order to providing the most accurate and sufficient
information about the destination. As the result, we learned how to
collect ,select the information from different sources such as: from
internet, books, real surveys or interviews and how to use and arrange
them for writing and editing the content of our brochure and website.
The skill of using information technology also took an important role in
deciding the project’ success because with a tourism project we can’t
do anything without the help of information technology; hence, all the
members in our group had to learn how to use different soft wares and
the strategies to use them effectively in making power point as well as
for designing our brochure and website. Moreover, we also use the four
skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) as the main tool to convey
the project’s content. We read and listened various sources of
information in Vietnamese, then translated and edited them into English.
Besides the skills mentioned above, learning how to become a true tour-
guide was also a vital skill we must master. In the project, we had to
make a real tour to the destination in which all of us were the tour-
guides, to do this, we spent time watching different videos about
tourism to know which skills and knowledge we must have to become a
real tour-guides so that we can make our tour successfully.
II. Project Elements
5.What has been the impact of your project in your
community?
Today, the promotion of tourism is necessary. It’s not only the duty of
the agencies but also the responsibility of everyone. Our project
introduce about Tay Thien scenic area. It’s one of the destinations
where has not known by many people. Our project aims to introduce
with the domestic and foreign about Tay Thien. It includes the temples
system, the activities, the transportation…We hope that Tay Thien will
5. become famous through this project. It will be the basic for attracting
tourists in the next year.
6.Discoveries, lessons
Through this course, we have some discoveries and lessons. We know
the work of a tour guide through this course. Professional tour guide
need afford the expectation of all members of the tourist group. The tour
guide is the point of contact between customers, supplies and travel
companies. They are responsible for creating the comfortable, pleasant
and safe for everyone. The tour guide will accompany the group
throughout the program. They have to know detailed information about
destination such as ethnic characteristics, geography, history and
economy of society…They have updated knowledge on procedures
related to passports, visas, bank, hospital and insurance… They are
responsible for the visitors, the travel companies and the environment.
Furthermore, I also understand the job of a designer. They must be
proficient about information technology. They have to brainstorming. In
addition, they need determine goals about brochure. One brochure
includes the words and images. It requires the harmony. Therefore, the
designer must have the verification and the logic. They need avoid
giving details and petty. The picture need clear when we give in the
brochure. Besides, the designer need choose congruous color, font and
font size…
The course helps to improve the work in group. We focus on common
goals .We divide the individual roles clearly. When we work in group, we
know listen to each other’s opinion. The patience also formed.
7. What information tools & technologies did you used ?
The main supporter in our project is laptop connected to the Internet.
We searched the information , photos on some websites such as
paronamio.com, youtube.com, googlemap.com, captreotaythien.vn….
We also shared the information , discussed via facebook, Gmail.
Cellphone s was used to contact among members in necessary case.
In our trip to Tay Thien, we used camera Sony to take photos, used
samsung GT- s5360 to record the interview, copied the information from
the management of Tay Thien tourism area by using USB kings ton
4Gb. When designing brochure, we mainly used Microsoft word office
