Our client is one of the top providers of clinical laboratory services in the world, performing tests on more
than 440,000 patient specimens each day on behalf of managed care organizations, hospitals, doctors,
government agencies, drug companies, and employers. Its services range from routine urinalyses, HIV tests,
and Pap smears to specialty testing for diagnostic genetics, oncology diagnosis and monitoring, infectious
diseases, clinical drug trials, and allergies. The parent company operates about 1,700 service sites across
the US that collects patient specimens and ships them to one of its primary laboratories where tests are
performed.
In this situation the company has the lead responsibilities in a joint venture with the University of
Tennessee's Graduate School of Medicine, the not-for-profit regional health system oversees the University
of Tennessee Medical Center, a 580-bed hospital that serves the eastern Tennessee, southeastern
Kentucky, and western North Carolina regions with a full range of medical services covering the brain,
heart, lung, spine, and vascular system, as well as cancer, childbirth, and emergency trauma.
Top Search Requirements:
This is the senior management position for the joint venture and will lead the development of the
organization related to operations, policies, practices and attainment of the joint venture’s and the parent
company’s business goals.
The General Manager is responsible for the day to day activities of clinical, pathology and support services
departments. In addition, to working closely within the hospital environment, the General Manager will
also work closely with the parent company regional and divisional senior management for outreach
phlebotomy and logistics services. This person will serve on the joint venture board while running a
full hospital lab at a major trauma center.
This is the senior management position for operational and fiscal activities of the company’s business in
Tennessee, requiring improving the operating quality and efficiency of the business unit.
The person must be able to demonstrate past success with P&L responsibilities and general business
knowledge as well as competency in Hospital Lab Systems.
While clinical knowledge is obviously important, strong financial skills and technical expertise is required.
