SCHOOL TEACHING
The second phase school induction program as part of our B.Ed. training was
started on 25th January 2021and ended on 15th February 2021. I had to take classes on
three weeks at Govt.GVHSS, Parassala, Thiruvananthapuram. I got the students from IX
class to teach. The classes were conducted fully in online mode through the platform of
Google Meet.
WEEK – 1
The first week of my internship was held on 25th January 2021 to 28th January
2021. The time schedule was 6.30pm to 7.15pm, so I asked the students to join before
10 minutes. Every day I greeted the students with smile at first when they were joining,
then I created good rapport with them through the informal interaction. In the firstweek
I taught three chapters – Litsen to the Mountain, 'The Jungle Air Crash' and ' On a
Killing A Tree ’ .. Students liked all these poems. Each day I used different types of
entry activities such as by showing images, videos and by asking riddle related to the
poems which helped me to catch the attention of students. All of them listened the
classes attentively and responded well with the questions asked by me. Their responses
made the class active and lively. Students also did the activities which I gave before
concluding the class and they presented it well by unmuting their microphones. Usually
I ended the class by giving them an assignment, some of the students sent its answers
to my WhatsApp number. I felt very positive after ending each of the classes. The
students cooperated well with me and their attitude towards me encouraged my teaching
2. skills. Though it was an online mode of class students actively participated in the class.
I could understand that the students were bored at their homes, so they liked face to face
online classes in this pandemic situation. The first week of the classes were filled with
the positive atmosphere.
WEEK – 2
On 1st March 2021 to 5th March 2021 was the second week of the teaching
practice. In this week the time schedule of my class has been shifted to 8 pm from 3rd
March 2021 as per the instruction given by the headmistress of the school. In this week
I taught the remaining part of the play ' Litsen to the Mountain' and other works 'The
jungle Air Crash' and ' On Killing A Tree ’, a Litsen to the Mountain' a play written b
which tells the need of protecting mother land. . One of the students sang a Malayalam
film song related to the destruction. Then in Jungle Air Crash' I showed pictures of
Kozhikode air crash and conducted a quiz . ' On Killing A Tree ’For this poem , I used
different types of entry activities like preparing plucard, prepare a slogan etc. Though
these activities I could make interest among the students to listen the class. As a whole
the students were active in the class, did the activities very well and presented it by
unmuting their microphones. Students were very much interested to write the answers
of activities and presented it without any force. Also, they answered well to my question
during the teaching, so that I could catch the attention of the students. At the end of this
week I conducted a surprise test (diagnostic test) for the students. All of them wrote the
answers and send it to my WhatsApp number. From their answers I could understand
the difficulties which they were facing, I gave suggestions as possible in the limitations
of online mode of teaching. Though it was an online mode of teaching, students
3. cooperated well with me. The support from students made me to lead the classes
confidently.
WEEK – 3
The third week was filledwith the moments of happiness, surprise and sorrowful
moments. The class was at 7.30 pm. From the informal interaction with the students, I
could make out one thing that the students were very much eager to go to school and to
see their friends as well as teachers. They were boring at their homes. One of the
students told me that she was the new student in this school, till this day she could not
see her new school. Also, the students requested me to continue this face to face online
class. In this week I continued the poem 'Ode on Killing Tree' completed it. Each day
I provided different type of entry activities such as completing puzzle, identifying the
events from the storythrough the images, rearranging the events and showing animated
videos of the story. Through these activities I could make an enthusiastic atmosphere
and to recall the story. In the last class I asked the students to summarize the story, one
of the students said its summary without any help which made me very happy. The day
before the last class, an examination of 30 marks was conducted. All of them wrote the
exam and I announced its result in the last class. Also, I explained the answers and
students understood their mistakes. I advised them to study well. One of the surprised
events happened in this week that a student wished me happy birthday unexpectedly
and the whole class also. That was a great gift of me in this year. In the last day of my
B.Ed. training the students were very sad which they expressed through their words. I
got positive feedback from my students which wet my eyes. I could feel how much I
influenced among them though it was an online mode of class. I thanked all of them for
4. their supports and helps. The valuable words from the students gave strength to my
mind to become a teacher. “We will miss you, teacher”, “We wish to see you in face to
face”. “You are so friendly”, “We can understand which you are teaching”, “We can
follow your explanations” – these words touched my heart a lot. I could understand that
the students had accepted the teacher inside me. Students also wished me all the best
for my future. Though it was an online mode of teaching practice which taught me a
lot. As a whole, this was an unforgettable experience in my life.
