Discuss your Mission Statement as if you were
seeing it for the first time and answer the following
questions?
What is the business stated in this (Vision) Mission Statement?
What is the core focus of the business?
How does the mission statement establish long-term direction and
sustainability for me as a customer?
What is the vocabulary of the school in the statement?
How is the Mission Statement inspirational to achieve buy in
from me as the customer?
6. Are we, as a school aligned with the Mission
Statement?
All: Which parts of the Mission Statement define who we are as a
brand and how can we argue and justify that we are fully aligned
with the Mission Statement?
Group 1+4: Which elements do we need to be thinking about in our
schools need to be part of our planning to support our Mission
Statement?
Group 2+3: What do we know to support our recognition and
addressing of threats & opportunities that could impact on core
business of our Mission Statement?
7. Three Questions … Design an Opinion Chart
• The general purpose of designing a strategic plan is to
combine the energy of organisation’s functional areas into
one focused effort to achieve superior performance.
• In essence, it answers the following 3 questions:
• Q1.Where is the organisation is at the moment?
• Q2. Where does it want to go?
• Q3. How it will get there?

Performance Measurement
Take the school’s Mission Statement, your
understandings from today’s discussions and of
challenges and opportunities in your
environment and in groups, use one or more to
discuss the mechanics of designing a SMART
goal. Use the objectives as ‘Key Performance
Areas’ and the SMART Goal as measurable
‘Indicators’.
18. Action Planning
Use an Action Planning template that’s provided or a
template that you design and suits your needs to work
with colleagues to address your most pressing areas in
need of strategic thinking and align it with the school’s
Mission Statement.
