existing film, using
the Hero’s Quest
theory. How does
your chosen film
fit with this?
The Ordinary World
The ordinary world for the Mandalorian would be fighting off like minded bounty hunters and
trying to make a living for himself in a lonely galaxy.
The Call to Adventure
The call to adventure was on one of his missions when he was told to retrieve a high value
package which turned out to be a force sensitive child.
The Refusal
The Mandalorian’s morals were the refusal in the series. He was told to kill a child and his
heart told him not to.
Mentor Help
In many ways the Mandalorian had multiple mentors, some being his clan for helping him
learn the fighting skills he needed to protect the child. Greef Carga for allowing him to enter
the bounty hunters guild. But most importantly the child, for showing him how to love and
care for people. His progress through the series is through always learning.
Crossing the Threshold
Test/Allies/Enemies
His biggest test is protecting the child from other rival bounty hunters.
His closest friends would be cara, boba, bo-katan, kuill, Ahsoka, fennec
His biggest enemies would be Moff Gideon, ig11,
Approach
Ordeal
During the 2 seasons there are a lot of different forms of conflict but the biggest ordeal in the
series would be when Moff Gideon manages to kidnap the child.
Reward
The reward would be knowing that the child hes protected for the past amount of time is safe
and in good hands.

Initial Ideas
Idea 1
Who Rico Vondelle
Lives in a small shack in the reserve and hunts/farms for a living
Stereotypical hunter (reserved and quiet)
Lives on his own
What all of his crops and livestock have gone missing.
He has to hunt and find what is taking all of his crops and animals
Why If he doesn’t get his animals back he cant survive and will have to go homeless in a forest known for wild
bears and other animals.
When Present day
Where Vinebury National Park
A massive nature reserve spanning across miles worth of forests and fields filled to the brim with wild
animals and plants.
How Go in hunt of the “thing” that keeps raiding his crops
Idea 2
Who The Amber Assassin
A hitwoman for hire
Illusive personality and secretive
Always wears a mask so identity is hidden
Key feature is the warm glow of her eyes seen through the mask
What Equipped with a silenced sniper and a 9mm supressed pistol she has to take the shot from the top of the
rooftop and kill him while he parades through the city centre.
Why Hired by a secret underground organisation to assassinate the mayor of shanghai.
The mayor contacted the group to rig the elections in his favour and in return he offered them money which
has yet to be given. She had been told the perfect place to execute the kill, The issue is the building is
heavily guarded and she has to climb the building without getting seen.
When Set in 2042 where china has became the economic powerhouse of the world and rule over the rest of the
world with fear.
Where War broke out in the former capital so the government moved all operations to the city of shanghai. The city
centre is where the main government building is which happens to be surrounded with sky scrapers, the
perfect spot to sit and watch.
How A shot to the head with a silenced sniper rifle from the top of a building.
Idea 3
Who Jean kheer
Formula Two Driver
Millionaire
Full of himself / Hot topic of racing
Rich background with millionaire parents
What Mid race he gets too over confident while overtaking and he goes hurtling into the barriers which leads to
other cars crashing at high speeds and a massive pileup. 1 person dies and 4 are very injured. Jean walks out
unharmed and has to watch as all of his fellow drivers get taken to hospital.
Why Out of desperation to win he goes for a move that could never be completed by anyone else, but his
arrogance blinds him as he thinks it wasn’t his fault.
When Set in 1991
Where The streets of Monaco on the grand prix circuit
How The backlash he received made him take a few years out and rethink his choices and his past. He later
returned to the spot a different person and focused his efforts in becoming a better person and doing things
for other people rather than just himself.

This Skyfall poster is a good example of a poster that has undergone
heavy editing and postproduction. The colors used are very muted and
minimal which is done by tuning down the saturation of the image.
James bond himself has been green screened onto the signature james
bond style background which in the bottom left corner has a picture of
London signifying the patriotic manor of Bond. The test used is bold
and just below Bonds Waistline. The white makes the title pop out and
attracts the eye. The signature logo and credits of the people are just
bellow so that you remain looking at the main character and the title.
Bond is already a massive movie title and people would watch it
regardless, but this poster attracts people to watch it because you can
almost know what to expect by the way he is dressed, the colors on
the poster and the name alone
Existing Product
The poster for Tron Legacy uses a dark
background with a contrasting neon colors for the
characters and title. The title uses a modern
technologic style of font which when combined
with the futuristic bikes and the space age like
suits gives the person looking at the poster gives a
good idea as to what the film would be like. The
contrasting colors of the characters suggests a
clash of two sides which is a good scene setter for
a movie. The front center bold text combined with
the parallel moving bikes makes this poster a good
example of a cliff hanger. The location and
identity of these characters remains hidden and
with no age rating or cast on the poster it leaves
the watcher guessing.
Existing Product
The color scheme for return of the jedi primarily
uses blacks and greens on this version of the
poster. The Font is very uniform compared to that
of Tron but the off-center approach and having the
characters on the right instead of the center is
unique. The characters seen are all a use of
puppets which in the 1980s was really the only way
to turn these characters to life as CGI wasn’t really
an option. The name and background of the poster
shows that this film is based on a war in the stars
which paints a clear image of to the person looking
at the poster whats going to happen.
Existing Product
Dune uses a collage of the characters in the front and center of the
poster. Using layering off images, it can fit a planet, the main title, and
a small piece of desert with the main character walking underneath.
The color pallet used is contrasting with the blue background and
planet contrasting with the gold and yellow of the sand bellow. The
font used for the title is very futuristic, This combined with the choice
of outfits for the characters in the poster suggest to the person seeing
it that its going to be a sci-fi related war themed film. There is little to
no props other than the characters themselves making this a very
simple poster. Most of the work will have been done in a studio given
the clarity of the characters pictures but some do look like they may
have been cuts from the movie that have been edited around.
Research Summary
• What have you learned from your research?
From the research ive conducted, ive found that the majority of sci-
fi/futuristic posters contain a very bold and standout text with the main
characters clearly visible at all times. To execute a good poster is to make
sure there is a brief understanding as to what the movie will be about while
not totally spoiling it. Simplistic posters are often better as overcrowded
ones are hard to look at and take in.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
The parts I will include in my work will be the futuristic and bold font as its
very eye catching and also the front and centre layout as I think it works the
best with sci-fi posters and makes it look impressive while also being clean
and simple.

Experiment’s
The first thing I did after deciding my theme,
was finding an appropriate image to match
with the title. I chose to use the image above
as I felt it had potential to be edited into
something fitting with the title. To suit the
theme, I used the filters tab on photoshop to
lower the exposure to give it a black and
white tinge while keeping some of the color
barely visible. I also cropped it down to size
to make it the aspect ratio for a poster.
Before ^
< after
After the I messed with the base image, I set
out to try and find an appropriate font. After
looking on both font websites like Dafont, I
decided to go with one of the already available
ones on photoshop. The font I chose was
SuperClaradon and I chose it for the reason of
its boldness and striking look. I felt this suited
well with the theme and title and gave it an
old-fashioned look. I did this by using the text
tool in photoshop and adding a stroke to the
text to give it an extra thickness around the
outside. The “Death” is also more enlarged in
size to try and gain attention of the person.
The Final thing I did to my poster was add a skull over the top to
further suit the theme of the story. I did this by going onto
google and finding a picture of a skull with a white background.
Using the quick select tool, I highlighted around the outside of
the shape and deleted the dead white space around it, so I was
left with just the skull. Parts of the skull were left with small bits
of white near the cheekbones, so I went around it with the
eraser tool to ensure it was fully cut out. I then proceeded to
enlarge it in size so it would fit perfectly overlapping the top of
the boat and into the clouds. After that, I lowered the opacity of
the skull, so it gave it a transparent effect, so the background
was visible. I preferred to keep this poster simple as the theme
and time I wanted it to be set in would have been the 1920s.
This authenticity was a clear goal before I started production
and thanks to my small bit of planning, I think it was executed
well.

My idea behind this color scheme is the
modern city and neon lights of the streets of
Shanghai. During the fight, the neon lights are
one of the main eye catchers and make the
silhouettes stand out.
This color scheme focuses more on the character of
The Amber Assassin herself and the syndicate of
people she is fighting against. With the use of dark
colors and contrasting light colors it shows that the
two groups are against each other which creates the
underdog dynamic in the story.

Synopsis
The Amber Assassin is a story surrounding a world-renowned bounty hunter known by many in the criminal underworld
for being a ruthless hitwoman. An underground crime syndicate located in the back streets of Shanghai have hired her to
complete a daring mission, assassinating the mayor of the city. If she was to be successful, she would be paid so much
that she’d never have to bounty hunt again. The syndicate equipped her with gadgets in case anything went wrong,
things such as invisibility sprays, climbing gloves and a ring that has an ability to sleep people at touch. She was told that
the best place to execute the kill was at the top of the Hsiao Tower which was located right in the middle of the city
centre, the perfect vantage point for a skilled sniper like herself. As she waded through the crowds of people towards the
tower she encountered an issue, the mass number of security guards standing at the bottom. She had to find some way
to the top without being seen. She ran into a side street and used the invisibility spray that had been given to her, she
managed to run straight through the security and up the stairs without being seen. The spray only lasted a few minutes
but by that time she was in a safe enough place to set up and wait for the mayor to emerge. She thought nobody in their
right mind would ever come this far up the building until she heard footsteps. The building was undergoing some
construction work so she quickly dived behind a metal beam and peered round the side to see if she could understand
the situation further. A masked figure in a navy-blue suit walked around the initial metal bar and strolled up to the
window. This figure had a sniper rifle strapped to her back and a distinctive ring on her right hand. While the figure was
distracted at the window, the assassin snuck round the side of the open building and was now stood directly behind the
unknowing figure. As she crept forward to get closer a metal bar creaked and the figure jolted, cocked her pistol and
aimed it towards her head. The assassin jumped backwords and drew her pistol from her pocket and pointed it at the
masked figures head. Stalemate. “Why are you here” the assassin whispered as they both circled around the room. The
Synopsis
“That bounty is mine…” she said falling back off the side of the building. The assassin raced over to the ledge and looked
down to see nothing, she begins scouting the building and looks up to see the masked figure climbing the beams of the
tower like a cat. The assassin darts to the other side of the building and begins to climb for her life. “That bounty is
mine” she whispers under her breath as she clambered onto the glass building. Not only her life, but her way out of
bounty hunting was on the line. Arms were aching, Wind was blowing but nothing was getting in the way of The Amber
Assassin and her prize. The top of the building was in sight. She clambered over the small ledge to see the unknown
masked figure standing and waiting. There was another face off. This time, the assassin was ready and hit the first blow
with a punch to the gut. This sent the masked figure flying to the edge of the building. If The Assassin couldn’t knock out
the figure, she would be certain to die. With that in mind, she ducked under a punch and hit the figure with the ring and
straight to sleep. The mask fell off to reveal a half cybernetic face with metal scars going down the neck. There was no
time to wait. The bells began ringing in the square and the assassin drew her sniper rifle from her back. She aimed in.
She took a deep breath. The shot pierced the belly of the air went straight through the chest of the mayor. Panic and
shouting erupted in the square and the assassin made her speedy getaway back into the shadows. No traces left other
than a sleeping body and a sniper rifle with no ammunition left.

Reflection (29/1/21)
What did you do?
So far, I have gone into the studio in college to take the necessary photos for both the film poster and magazine cover. I also
Wrote the synopsis for my cover.
How did it go?
As of now, the trouble we had was balancing the amount of light, so the picture didn’t look completely flushed out with
Overpowering colors. We realize that once we have the correct equipment, we can just substitute my face for the stock image
I got online. The editing process has been smooth so far and i haven’t ran into any issues regarding things that can't be done
Or things not saving.
How could it be improved?
The main thing I need to improve is making it my own work. With
The ability to go into the studio limited and the equipment spread
Thinly across the groups I've had to make do with online images
Rather than my own.
What are you going to do next?
The main thing I need to do is take the photos so that I can get on
With finishing my poster and beginning my magazine cover.

Enter The Gungeon
Enter the Gungeon is
a bullet hell roguelike
video game
developed by Dodge
Roll and published by
Devolver Digital.
The combat style is fast paced and makes use of dodging
mechanics. The focus is on clearing out rooms with
different types of enemies with guns such as pistols and
rifles. The game allows the player to go into a shop and
buy perks and health so your ready for the next level.
NPCs are dotted around the map and add a real sense of
story and purpose
It uses a top-down camera and varying light levels to
create atmosphere which is a common method used
by platform developers to add depth
Pokémon Brown
• Pokémon Brown is an explorer
adventure from the 90s based around
catching Pokémon and exploring the
region of Kanto. Main character Ash
sets off on his journey from Pallet Town
to become the number one Pokémon
trainer in the world. Taking down gym
leaders in battles and catching wild
Pokémon. As the story progresses each
boss and Pokémon gets harder which
subsequently means your own
Pokémon do as well. Its top-down
camera and simplistic movement give it
the perfect relaxing feeling when
playing.
Terraria
Blending elements of classic action games with the
freedom of sandbox-style creativity, Terraria is a
unique gaming experience where both the journey
and the destination are as unique as the players
themselves. The customisation and free rain to do as
you like makes this game fun however you want to
play it. With plenty of bosses to fight and things to
build, terraria is a unique experience which provides
for all types of players. The bright colours and fantasy
themes makes this game appealing for all ages and
genders. The 2D style of this game is very simplistic
but with many different backgrounds and biomes it
makes you forget how simple the concept for the
game is.
Celeste
• Celeste is a pixel-based single player platformer
with 700+ levels to play. The controls are simple and
accessible - simply jump, air-dash, and climb - but
with layers of expressive depth to master, where
every death is a lesson. Lightning-fast respawns
keep you climbing as you uncover the mysteries of
the mountain and brave its many perils.

Idea Generation
My concept is to create an
exploration/dungeon crawler game with the
focus of beating bosses and improving tools
and weapons along the way. The freedom of
the game allows for the player to play the
game at whatever pace they want and let
their creative freedom run wild. As the bosses
get harder the machinery and rewards for
killing these bosses gets better meaning that
progression is completely optional. The
combat system is class based and certain
perks can be found dotted around the world
in dungeons or chests underground. Class
specific items will allow you to level up that
specific class and play as either a wizard,
duelist, gunman or summoner. The main area
is a spawn town which has NPCs which you
can trade and take side quests off. The world
will also change as time goes on due
progression in the story and new biomes
being added into the already biome rich
world.
Id want character customization to be an important part of
the game I'm creating as I feel it adds a personal side to the
game. In game cosmetics should be free and easy to access
as but rarities of items should depend on how hard they to
get as something simple shouldn’t be as easy to get as
something rare. Doing this through quests from village folk
keeps the game interesting and adds another large goal to
collect all clothing items in game.
World and terrain generation should keep a similar
pattern but be different every time as it keeps the
experience fresh. Games like Minecraft and terraria
have done this so well and it always ends up
drawing you back in to play more.
The pixel style of animation is a simple
yet effective way of animating a game.
Examples below show that you don’t
need incredibly good graphics to make a
story and a game that we can be
invested in.

Movement is important given the size of the worlds so
certain craftable and findable items are scattered across
the world depending on how far into the game you are.
Speed boots may be found early game but progress
further and things like wings and mounts become possible

Game Summary
A quick summary of the game.
● My game is going to be a multi levelled platformer in a
similar style to that of Mario
● The levels will be around a minute or so and contain classic
platformer assets such as small moving enemies and
platforms above ground level
● It will take place in numerous places varying from the top of
sky scrapers to the candle lit streets of shanghai ( level
dependent )
● The main character you play as is called Assan
● throughout the story the levels begin to get harder

Evaluation
Research
• The research of my game is a strong point of the project. The majority of the games I researched
id had experience playing before which meant I could get an east overview of the game I wanted.
My experience of playing video games in the past further allowed me to understand what games I
(and lots of others) find fun meaning that getting the idea and thinking about how it would work
was an easy process. I feel like if I did more research then I would have been able to come up with
the format of the game easier which would have then given me more time in production. Another
improvement I feel I could have made in my research was including which part of the game I was
researching and explaining how I could use it in my own game.
Planning
• After researching a wide variety of games I knew what my general idea was going to be. The
hardest part of the planning was finding a game layout that I could follow and that I had the time
to make. In the end, and due to the reduced time I had, I resorted to doing the classic Mario style
platformer game. To better improve my planning, I would have made it a more detailed. In adding
more detail, it would have allowed me to be more decisive and meant I could started production
earlier.
Time Management
• My time management during this project for the most part has been good. Although, with the
shortened amount of days we had during this project, I felt that the production part of the project
felt somewhat rushed. If I had until the end of Wednesday, I feel as if I could have produced a
higher standard project by adding further loading screens, more in depth animations and overall a
less rushed feel to the project.
Technical Qualities
My work in comparison to other pixel-based platformers comes across as fairly basic but given the production time I
don’t think I've done awfully. The character models and background are the bits that resemble other games due to
the effort I put in early on. The bit least like a real game is the actual animation. I found that it feels somewhat
rushed and often too janky. With more time I could smooth it out and make a slightly smoother animation and a
bigger level to play. All the “effects” I made were by drawing them out using individual pixels in photoshop and later
animating them once they're on the actual level. The audio used was all gathered from online and pre existing games
such as Pokémon and Mario games.
Aesthetic Qualities
The Aesthetic qualities are one of my favorite parts of the entire project from both the posters/advertising and
the animation. The both projects keep to the same aesthetic which is something I've tried very hard to do. The
aesthetic kept to a neon and modern theme which is heavily repeated throughout both projects. Most games in
the genre don’t usually go for such vibrant colors and futuristic themes which is where I feel mine is most
unique.
Aural Qualities
The use of sound in my game is rather minimal and none of the sound used is my own which is a very weak point in
My project. The recycled sound effects, while they are very high quality, lack authenticity which changes the mood of the
Mood of the project. While the sound did fit well, it wasn’t my own which is a let down on my behalf. If I had more time to
Finish the project I would make use of apps like garage band to compose my own sound effects.
Audience Appeal
I feel most of my project appeals towards its intended target audience. The teen target audience allows for a lot of
Free design choice but the sci-fi design posters and story draft make for an entertaining experience for the people
Willing to watch. The game provides a retro feel which reaches out to the older audience and can entice them into
watching the film also.

  • 14. Existing Product This Skyfall poster is a good example of a poster that has undergone heavy editing and postproduction. The colors used are very muted and minimal which is done by tuning down the saturation of the image. James bond himself has been green screened onto the signature james bond style background which in the bottom left corner has a picture of London signifying the patriotic manor of Bond. The test used is bold and just below Bonds Waistline. The white makes the title pop out and attracts the eye. The signature logo and credits of the people are just bellow so that you remain looking at the main character and the title. Bond is already a massive movie title and people would watch it regardless, but this poster attracts people to watch it because you can almost know what to expect by the way he is dressed, the colors on the poster and the name alone
  • 15. Existing Product The poster for Tron Legacy uses a dark background with a contrasting neon colors for the characters and title. The title uses a modern technologic style of font which when combined with the futuristic bikes and the space age like suits gives the person looking at the poster gives a good idea as to what the film would be like. The contrasting colors of the characters suggests a clash of two sides which is a good scene setter for a movie. The front center bold text combined with the parallel moving bikes makes this poster a good example of a cliff hanger. The location and identity of these characters remains hidden and with no age rating or cast on the poster it leaves the watcher guessing.
  • 16. Existing Product The color scheme for return of the jedi primarily uses blacks and greens on this version of the poster. The Font is very uniform compared to that of Tron but the off-center approach and having the characters on the right instead of the center is unique. The characters seen are all a use of puppets which in the 1980s was really the only way to turn these characters to life as CGI wasn’t really an option. The name and background of the poster shows that this film is based on a war in the stars which paints a clear image of to the person looking at the poster whats going to happen.
  • 17. Existing Product Dune uses a collage of the characters in the front and center of the poster. Using layering off images, it can fit a planet, the main title, and a small piece of desert with the main character walking underneath. The color pallet used is contrasting with the blue background and planet contrasting with the gold and yellow of the sand bellow. The font used for the title is very futuristic, This combined with the choice of outfits for the characters in the poster suggest to the person seeing it that its going to be a sci-fi related war themed film. There is little to no props other than the characters themselves making this a very simple poster. Most of the work will have been done in a studio given the clarity of the characters pictures but some do look like they may have been cuts from the movie that have been edited around.
  • 18. Research Summary • What have you learned from your research? From the research ive conducted, ive found that the majority of sci- fi/futuristic posters contain a very bold and standout text with the main characters clearly visible at all times. To execute a good poster is to make sure there is a brief understanding as to what the movie will be about while not totally spoiling it. Simplistic posters are often better as overcrowded ones are hard to look at and take in. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? The parts I will include in my work will be the futuristic and bold font as its very eye catching and also the front and centre layout as I think it works the best with sci-fi posters and makes it look impressive while also being clean and simple.

  • 21. The first thing I did after deciding my theme, was finding an appropriate image to match with the title. I chose to use the image above as I felt it had potential to be edited into something fitting with the title. To suit the theme, I used the filters tab on photoshop to lower the exposure to give it a black and white tinge while keeping some of the color barely visible. I also cropped it down to size to make it the aspect ratio for a poster. Before ^ < after
  • 22. After the I messed with the base image, I set out to try and find an appropriate font. After looking on both font websites like Dafont, I decided to go with one of the already available ones on photoshop. The font I chose was SuperClaradon and I chose it for the reason of its boldness and striking look. I felt this suited well with the theme and title and gave it an old-fashioned look. I did this by using the text tool in photoshop and adding a stroke to the text to give it an extra thickness around the outside. The “Death” is also more enlarged in size to try and gain attention of the person.
  • 23. The Final thing I did to my poster was add a skull over the top to further suit the theme of the story. I did this by going onto google and finding a picture of a skull with a white background. Using the quick select tool, I highlighted around the outside of the shape and deleted the dead white space around it, so I was left with just the skull. Parts of the skull were left with small bits of white near the cheekbones, so I went around it with the eraser tool to ensure it was fully cut out. I then proceeded to enlarge it in size so it would fit perfectly overlapping the top of the boat and into the clouds. After that, I lowered the opacity of the skull, so it gave it a transparent effect, so the background was visible. I preferred to keep this poster simple as the theme and time I wanted it to be set in would have been the 1920s. This authenticity was a clear goal before I started production and thanks to my small bit of planning, I think it was executed well.
  • 25. Style Sheet My idea behind this color scheme is the modern city and neon lights of the streets of Shanghai. During the fight, the neon lights are one of the main eye catchers and make the silhouettes stand out. This color scheme focuses more on the character of The Amber Assassin herself and the syndicate of people she is fighting against. With the use of dark colors and contrasting light colors it shows that the two groups are against each other which creates the underdog dynamic in the story.

  • 31. Synopsis The Amber Assassin is a story surrounding a world-renowned bounty hunter known by many in the criminal underworld for being a ruthless hitwoman. An underground crime syndicate located in the back streets of Shanghai have hired her to complete a daring mission, assassinating the mayor of the city. If she was to be successful, she would be paid so much that she’d never have to bounty hunt again. The syndicate equipped her with gadgets in case anything went wrong, things such as invisibility sprays, climbing gloves and a ring that has an ability to sleep people at touch. She was told that the best place to execute the kill was at the top of the Hsiao Tower which was located right in the middle of the city centre, the perfect vantage point for a skilled sniper like herself. As she waded through the crowds of people towards the tower she encountered an issue, the mass number of security guards standing at the bottom. She had to find some way to the top without being seen. She ran into a side street and used the invisibility spray that had been given to her, she managed to run straight through the security and up the stairs without being seen. The spray only lasted a few minutes but by that time she was in a safe enough place to set up and wait for the mayor to emerge. She thought nobody in their right mind would ever come this far up the building until she heard footsteps. The building was undergoing some construction work so she quickly dived behind a metal beam and peered round the side to see if she could understand the situation further. A masked figure in a navy-blue suit walked around the initial metal bar and strolled up to the window. This figure had a sniper rifle strapped to her back and a distinctive ring on her right hand. While the figure was distracted at the window, the assassin snuck round the side of the open building and was now stood directly behind the unknowing figure. As she crept forward to get closer a metal bar creaked and the figure jolted, cocked her pistol and aimed it towards her head. The assassin jumped backwords and drew her pistol from her pocket and pointed it at the masked figures head. Stalemate. “Why are you here” the assassin whispered as they both circled around the room. The
  • 32. Synopsis “That bounty is mine…” she said falling back off the side of the building. The assassin raced over to the ledge and looked down to see nothing, she begins scouting the building and looks up to see the masked figure climbing the beams of the tower like a cat. The assassin darts to the other side of the building and begins to climb for her life. “That bounty is mine” she whispers under her breath as she clambered onto the glass building. Not only her life, but her way out of bounty hunting was on the line. Arms were aching, Wind was blowing but nothing was getting in the way of The Amber Assassin and her prize. The top of the building was in sight. She clambered over the small ledge to see the unknown masked figure standing and waiting. There was another face off. This time, the assassin was ready and hit the first blow with a punch to the gut. This sent the masked figure flying to the edge of the building. If The Assassin couldn’t knock out the figure, she would be certain to die. With that in mind, she ducked under a punch and hit the figure with the ring and straight to sleep. The mask fell off to reveal a half cybernetic face with metal scars going down the neck. There was no time to wait. The bells began ringing in the square and the assassin drew her sniper rifle from her back. She aimed in. She took a deep breath. The shot pierced the belly of the air went straight through the chest of the mayor. Panic and shouting erupted in the square and the assassin made her speedy getaway back into the shadows. No traces left other than a sleeping body and a sniper rifle with no ammunition left.

  • 35. Reflection (29/1/21) What did you do? So far, I have gone into the studio in college to take the necessary photos for both the film poster and magazine cover. I also Wrote the synopsis for my cover. How did it go? As of now, the trouble we had was balancing the amount of light, so the picture didn’t look completely flushed out with Overpowering colors. We realize that once we have the correct equipment, we can just substitute my face for the stock image I got online. The editing process has been smooth so far and i haven’t ran into any issues regarding things that can't be done Or things not saving. How could it be improved? The main thing I need to improve is making it my own work. With The ability to go into the studio limited and the equipment spread Thinly across the groups I've had to make do with online images Rather than my own. What are you going to do next? The main thing I need to do is take the photos so that I can get on With finishing my poster and beginning my magazine cover. mine Professional lighting + camera

  • 40. Enter The Gungeon Enter the Gungeon is a bullet hell roguelike video game developed by Dodge Roll and published by Devolver Digital. The combat style is fast paced and makes use of dodging mechanics. The focus is on clearing out rooms with different types of enemies with guns such as pistols and rifles. The game allows the player to go into a shop and buy perks and health so your ready for the next level. NPCs are dotted around the map and add a real sense of story and purpose It uses a top-down camera and varying light levels to create atmosphere which is a common method used by platform developers to add depth
  • 41. Pokémon Brown • Pokémon Brown is an explorer adventure from the 90s based around catching Pokémon and exploring the region of Kanto. Main character Ash sets off on his journey from Pallet Town to become the number one Pokémon trainer in the world. Taking down gym leaders in battles and catching wild Pokémon. As the story progresses each boss and Pokémon gets harder which subsequently means your own Pokémon do as well. Its top-down camera and simplistic movement give it the perfect relaxing feeling when playing.
  • 42. Terraria Blending elements of classic action games with the freedom of sandbox-style creativity, Terraria is a unique gaming experience where both the journey and the destination are as unique as the players themselves. The customisation and free rain to do as you like makes this game fun however you want to play it. With plenty of bosses to fight and things to build, terraria is a unique experience which provides for all types of players. The bright colours and fantasy themes makes this game appealing for all ages and genders. The 2D style of this game is very simplistic but with many different backgrounds and biomes it makes you forget how simple the concept for the game is.
  • 43. Celeste • Celeste is a pixel-based single player platformer with 700+ levels to play. The controls are simple and accessible - simply jump, air-dash, and climb - but with layers of expressive depth to master, where every death is a lesson. Lightning-fast respawns keep you climbing as you uncover the mysteries of the mountain and brave its many perils.
  • 45. Idea Generation My concept is to create an exploration/dungeon crawler game with the focus of beating bosses and improving tools and weapons along the way. The freedom of the game allows for the player to play the game at whatever pace they want and let their creative freedom run wild. As the bosses get harder the machinery and rewards for killing these bosses gets better meaning that progression is completely optional. The combat system is class based and certain perks can be found dotted around the world in dungeons or chests underground. Class specific items will allow you to level up that specific class and play as either a wizard, duelist, gunman or summoner. The main area is a spawn town which has NPCs which you can trade and take side quests off. The world will also change as time goes on due progression in the story and new biomes being added into the already biome rich world. Id want character customization to be an important part of the game I'm creating as I feel it adds a personal side to the game. In game cosmetics should be free and easy to access as but rarities of items should depend on how hard they to get as something simple shouldn’t be as easy to get as something rare. Doing this through quests from village folk keeps the game interesting and adds another large goal to collect all clothing items in game. World and terrain generation should keep a similar pattern but be different every time as it keeps the experience fresh. Games like Minecraft and terraria have done this so well and it always ends up drawing you back in to play more. The pixel style of animation is a simple yet effective way of animating a game. Examples below show that you don’t need incredibly good graphics to make a story and a game that we can be invested in.  Movement is important given the size of the worlds so certain craftable and findable items are scattered across the world depending on how far into the game you are. Speed boots may be found early game but progress further and things like wings and mounts become possible
  • 47. Game Summary A quick summary of the game. ● My game is going to be a multi levelled platformer in a similar style to that of Mario ● The levels will be around a minute or so and contain classic platformer assets such as small moving enemies and platforms above ground level ● It will take place in numerous places varying from the top of sky scrapers to the candle lit streets of shanghai ( level dependent ) ● The main character you play as is called Assan ● throughout the story the levels begin to get harder

The places of enemies, platforms and speed of the character moving An example of a beginner level. Slow moving platform with minimal enemies An example of a complex level. Fast moving platforms and many enemies Games usually start easy as the player learns the game, getting a bit more difficult until the player faces off against a nerve-wracking “boss fight” or “challenge gate”, then down to a bit easier again to let players relax.

  • 53. Research • The research of my game is a strong point of the project. The majority of the games I researched id had experience playing before which meant I could get an east overview of the game I wanted. My experience of playing video games in the past further allowed me to understand what games I (and lots of others) find fun meaning that getting the idea and thinking about how it would work was an easy process. I feel like if I did more research then I would have been able to come up with the format of the game easier which would have then given me more time in production. Another improvement I feel I could have made in my research was including which part of the game I was researching and explaining how I could use it in my own game.
  • 54. Planning • After researching a wide variety of games I knew what my general idea was going to be. The hardest part of the planning was finding a game layout that I could follow and that I had the time to make. In the end, and due to the reduced time I had, I resorted to doing the classic Mario style platformer game. To better improve my planning, I would have made it a more detailed. In adding more detail, it would have allowed me to be more decisive and meant I could started production earlier.
  • 55. Time Management • My time management during this project for the most part has been good. Although, with the shortened amount of days we had during this project, I felt that the production part of the project felt somewhat rushed. If I had until the end of Wednesday, I feel as if I could have produced a higher standard project by adding further loading screens, more in depth animations and overall a less rushed feel to the project.
  • 56. Technical Qualities My work in comparison to other pixel-based platformers comes across as fairly basic but given the production time I don’t think I've done awfully. The character models and background are the bits that resemble other games due to the effort I put in early on. The bit least like a real game is the actual animation. I found that it feels somewhat rushed and often too janky. With more time I could smooth it out and make a slightly smoother animation and a bigger level to play. All the “effects” I made were by drawing them out using individual pixels in photoshop and later animating them once they're on the actual level. The audio used was all gathered from online and pre existing games such as Pokémon and Mario games.
  • 57. Aesthetic Qualities The Aesthetic qualities are one of my favorite parts of the entire project from both the posters/advertising and the animation. The both projects keep to the same aesthetic which is something I've tried very hard to do. The aesthetic kept to a neon and modern theme which is heavily repeated throughout both projects. Most games in the genre don’t usually go for such vibrant colors and futuristic themes which is where I feel mine is most unique.
  • 58. Aural Qualities The use of sound in my game is rather minimal and none of the sound used is my own which is a very weak point in My project. The recycled sound effects, while they are very high quality, lack authenticity which changes the mood of the Mood of the project. While the sound did fit well, it wasn’t my own which is a let down on my behalf. If I had more time to Finish the project I would make use of apps like garage band to compose my own sound effects.
  • 59. Audience Appeal I feel most of my project appeals towards its intended target audience. The teen target audience allows for a lot of Free design choice but the sci-fi design posters and story draft make for an entertaining experience for the people Willing to watch. The game provides a retro feel which reaches out to the older audience and can entice them into watching the film also.
  • 60. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final package. Strengths - Aesthetic - Poster design - Preproduction on poster - Research on animation - Draft on poster Weaknesses - Animation - Level design - Complexity of level - Time management on poster
