UNION MIN SHEKHAWAT SLAMS STATE GOVT OVER DEATHS
Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Sunday slammed state gov-
ernment over deaths of 11 members of a Hindu migrant family from Pakistan,
saying the incident reflects the working style of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
“The deaths of nearly a dozen refugees from Pakistan put a question mark on
@ashokgehlot51’s working style. The deceased include two men, four women
and five children. One after other, very frightening incidents reflecting the
deteriorating situation of the state, are coming to the fore. The government
should swing into action and clear the picture,” Shekhawat tweeted.
PM’s SIXER SCORES `17,000 CR IN ACCOUNTS OF 8.5 CR KISANS
New Delhi: Prime Min-
ister Narendra Modi on
Sunday released the
sixth instalment of fi-

PM-KISAN scheme via
video conferencing. Un-
der the sixth instalment
of PM-Kisan scheme,
Rs17,000 crore of PM-

has been deposited into
bank accounts of 8.5
crore farmers with a
single click.
Under the PM-KISAN
scheme, the govern-
ment is providing annu-
ally Rs6,000 in three
equal installments to 14
crore farmers.
Earlier in the day, he
tweeted, “Wishing
countrymen especially
farmers on the occasion
of Balaram Jayanti,
‘Hal Chhath’ and ‘Dau
janmotsav’. On this spe-
cial day at 11 am,
through video confer-

tweet.
“The fund would
bring about the crea-

First India Bureau
Jaipur: The public pos-
turing by politicians by
way of bittersweet po-
litical statements from
both Congress and BJP
apart, the real politics
is getting ready to be
played out on the floor
of the house.
Seasoned Cong MLA
Ramnarayan Meena
has put up more than 25
questions for upcoming
assembly session which
cover departments like
UDH, Social Welfare,
Water Resources, PWD,
Developed Irrigated
Area, Energy, Youth Af-
fairs, Medical & Health
and Cooperative.
Meena has put up
questions concerning
student facilities too.
The upcoming ses-
sion is all set for a
stormy gathering with
govt answering ques-
tions like phone tap-
ping, suicide by police-
men, rape & kidnapping
of minors & women,
criminal cass of Nokha,
matters related to ille-
gal tobacco trade, inci-
dents of murder 7 da-
coties along with custo-
dial deaths. BJP MLAs
Poonia, Rajendra
Rathore, Kalicharan,
Ram Lal & Bihari Lal
Vishnoi will be target-
ing the law & order situ-
ation in the state. Kali-
charan Saraf will be
seen trying to corner
the govt on the phone
tapping issue. BJP
MLAs Chagan & Nir-
mal will try to shame
govt through the locust
attack while Poonia will
leave no stone unturned
by pointing out Home
department failures po-
lice suicide cases. Poo-
nia will also turn a leaf
from recent history of
black marketing of food
items during the lock-
down period. Kiran Ma-
heshwari will shock the
govt by raising issues
of electricity.
First India Bureau
Jaipur. It is finally offi-
cial that the state unit of
BJP will start the camp
for its 72 MLAs along
with 3 RLP MLAs at Ho-
tel Crown Plaza, Jaipur
at 4 pm on 11 August.
LOP Gulabchand Ka-
taria called MLA him-
self while state chief
Poonia conveyed the
message officially. Ka-
taria informed that for-
mer CM Raje too will be
part of the camp. Amid
the ongoing political
game of one-upmanship
BJP after dispatching
its 18 MLAs to Gujarat
has changed strategy.
The initial plan was to
send 12 more MLAs to
Gujarat but now the re-
sponsibility of all has
been given to the dis-
tricts who have been
asked to keep a strict
watch on their MLAs
and any probable con-
tact with Cong leaders
district admin to lure
them. BJP MLA San-
tosh was called by BJP
leaders to explain in de-
tail why couldn’t she
leave with the rest of
MLAs for Gujarat on
Friday. LOP Kataria too
had a talk with MLA
Shankar Singh and
some others who had
been attempted to con-
tact by Congress. An im-
portant meeting was
held at Kataria’s resi-
dence on Sunday which
was attended by state
chief Satish Poonia and
deputy LOP Rajendra
Rathore. It was decided
that MLA Ashok Lahoti
will be responsible for
accomodation. The in-
teresting aspect amid all
this caution is that BJP
has officially demanded
for President’s rule in
the state. BJP state unit
is enraged by the state-
ment given by Rajendra
Singh. Both Poonia and
Kataria have talked to
the national leadership
regarding Gudha’s
claim that BJP will not
be able to bring its 72
MLAs to assembly on 14
August.
Laxman Raghav
Jaisalmer: “BJP has
vindicated all our alle-
gations by camping its
MLAs in Gujarat”
said PCC president Do-
tasara. He said all along
Congress was saying
that the state unit of
BJP is being governed
by the central leader-
ship who want to pull
down the Gehlot govt
while there were some
state BJP leaders who
are against destabiliz-
ing an elected govt. Do-
tasara took a jibe at BJP
and said that MLAs get
votes from people of Raj
but are taken Gujarat,
Haryana & Karnataka.
PCC chief also com-
mented on central min-
ister Kailash Choud-
hary for contributing
forthespreadof corona-
virus in Jaisalmer with
testimony of his testing
corona positive. Do-
tasara didn’t spare cen-
tral minister Gajendra
Singh Shekhawat and
lambasted him for lay-
ing false charges of tap-
ping phones in Hotel
Suryagarh and said he
should first answer
about his voice on the
viral audio tapes. He
said our MLAs at Sury-
agarh are free to move &
talk. He also appealed to
all dissidents along with
Sachin Pilot that they
should break shackles &
come out. Dotasara also
criticized the Gujarat
model of politics which
doesn’t respect the man-
date of the people. He
also defended the merg-
er of 6 BSP MLAs with
Congress citing Su-
preme Court decisions.

Junagadh: Taking no
chances, the Ra-
jasthan BJP that had
moved its 6 legisla-
tors to Gujarat ahead
of the crucial Assem-
bly session in that
State starting on Au-
gust 14, shifted them
yet again in the early
hours of Sunday.
Initially, there was a
suspense about where
they were taken from
the Somnath Darshan
hotel in Somnath after
an overnight stay.
It was found later
that they had been
moved to the farm
house of a political
leader in Junagadh,
which is a 2-hour drive
from Somnath.
The six MLAs land-
ed at Porbandar air-
port in a chartered
flight on Saturday
evening from they
drove straight to
Somnath after a
small break at Lord’s
resort on the Por-
bandar highway.
The Congress gov-
ernment in Rajasthan
under Chief Minister
Ashok Gehlot is in
strife after Deputy
CM Sachin Pilot re-
belled and was sacked
from the post.
The 6 BJP MLAs,
who reached Gujarat,
told reporters that the
Congress government
in Rajasthan was “har-
assing” Opposition
MLAs, and that they
had come on a pilgrim-
age to Somnath to seek
mental peace.

Jaipur: BJP MLA Pab-

justify the camping of
BJP MLAs by citing
the diff between the
two political parties.

He charged Cong lead-

Jaipur: The political
environment is chang-
ing every minute before
the 14 August assembly
session. Congress and
BJP are trying to keep
their respective flock
together by camping
them at safe places.

day discussed the floor
management in pres-

Their strategy is that
the frontal attack team

it is confidence motion,

The team will be led
by Shanti Dhariwal,
BD Kalla. Meanwhile,
Mahesh Joshi and

‘TRIBALS ARE LOYAL’
WHY WOULD CONG POACH
BJP MLAS: CHOUDHARY
Laxman Raghav
Jaisalmer: Leader Raguveer Meena
criticised BJP for calling
tribal ‘a soft target’ in ref
to their Gujarat camp. He
said tribals are loyal, they
prefer laying down their
lives than selling their
conscience. BJP always
mates out such derogato-
ry treatment to its tribal leaders,” citing
BJP insulting its tribal leader.
Jaisalmer: Revenue minister Harish
Chodhary reacted to BJP allegations of
fear of poaching its
MLAs. Chodhary said
why would Congress
poach anybody’s MLAs
when it has a majority
on its own. Speaking on
19 dissident Congress
MLAs Choudhary said
that first they should give up the BJP
hospitality and then the Congress high
command will take a call on them.

Jaipur: The collector-
ate is all set not only to
save on electrical bills,
but also to contribute in
electricity production.
The solar electricity
project carried out by
REEL under Smart City
project has set up solar
panels on the roof of
the campus.
The solar project will
not only facilitate elec-
tricity in around 200
rooms and conference
halls in the district ad-
ministration building.
The average electric bill
which collectorate pays
in summers is Rs 4-5
lakh and Rs 2 lakh in
winters per month.
With the 200 KW solar
project in place the col-
lectorate will save 50%
of the expenses and pay
balance 50% to REEL as
per the MOU. The me-
ters installed with the
solar plant will let the
officers know how
much electricity they
produce, consume and
contribute to the grid. It
is being assumed that
the installed solar plant
will produce electricity
for 300 days a year with
production ranging be-
tween 2.90 – 3.40 lakh
units per annum. At
present collectorate is
consuming 4.20 lakh
units every year.
Collector Antar Sin-
gh Nehra and ADM Ra-
jendra Singh Kaviya
say that the office will
consume the electricity
production on week-
days but will contribute
to the grid on the week-
ends. Further the dis-
trict administration
will no more suffer dur-
ing unannounced elec-
tricity cuts.
This is an important
and positive step to-
wards good governance
and saving on state ex-
chequer while ensuring
service to the people

edic culture is not religion
specific but a way of life. It
was the daily routine and
rituals during the Vedic Pe-
riod. The after-effects of co-
rona which would cripple
manyeconomies,makemany
individuals jobless and turn
many rich households to the
poor would need the internal
strength and peace to over-
come the trauma. There is
likely to be a paradigm shift
in our way of life with glitter,
extravagance giving way to
simplicity and purity.
It is very interesting to
know that some elements
of the culture of the Vedic
Age have survived for al-
most 3,000 years and con-
tinue to be a part of Indian
culture even today. The Ve-
dic period saw the emer-
gence and exploitation of
technology with the discov-
ery of Iron. Many crafts de-
veloped during this period
and growth of population and
surplus of food grain due to
extensive farming led to ur-
banisation. The period also
witnessed the emergence of a
sound system of governance
even though the hereditary
system prevailed. The Gu-
rukul system of education,
though not universal, was
aimed at the holistic develop-
mentof Shishyaswhichmade
them great warriors and
kings. Meditation was the
means to achieve inner peace.
Many of the things being
promoted now worldwide
as new norms of living to
avoid being affected by co-
rona were the usual norms
during the Vedic period as
very strict norms of hy-
giene were followed. Like
we are now being told not to
touch our eyes, nose, etc with-
out washing hands in
Manusamriti (4/144) it is
written “Without a reason
don’t touch your own in-
driyas (eyes, nose, ears,
etc). As regards frequent
washing of hands, Pad-
mashristi (51/88) states
“Wash your hands, feet,
mouth before you eat”. An-
other common thing being
insisted now is avoid re-use
and frequent change of cloth-
ing particularly after you re-
turn home from a visit out-
side. In the same scripture
shloka 51/83 says “Don’t
use the cloth (like towel)
used by another person for
drying yourself after a
bath.” The Mahabharat
teaches “Use different
clothes while sleeping
while going out while visit-
ing a place of worship”. In
Vishnusamriti shloka 64
preaches “Clothes once
worn should not be worn
again before washing.”
Aren’t these going to be the
norms in the post COVID – 19
era? The material (samagri)
used for Havan (fire worship)
in Indian Households includ-
ing incense sticks use many
ingredients that purify the
atmosphere and keep infec-
tions away. This is also a gift
of the Vedic period which if
promoted like Yoga could
change the way of life of
many.
The word ‘yoga’ is derived
from Sanskrit which means
to join or to unite. Yoga is a
physical, mental, and spirit-
ual practice that originated
in India. Yoga which was not
very popular internationally
and was desisted by some la-
belling it to be religion spe-
cific has now become popu-
lar worldwide due to the ef-
fort of PM Narendra Modi
who succeeded in United Na-
tions Organisation (UNO)
General Assembly 2014 de-
claring 21 June as The Inter-
national Day of Yoga. 21 June
was suggested as the date by
PM Modi since it is the long-
est day of the year in the
Northern Hemisphere and
shares a special significance
in many parts of the world. It
is being celebrated every
year since then with increas-
ing number of nations join-
ing the celebrations.
While addressing the UN
General Assembly on 27 Sep-
tember 2014, PM Modi advo-
cated the promotion of Yoga
internationally and stated,
“Yoga is an invaluable gift of
India’s ancient tradition. It
embodies unity of mind and
body; thought and action; re-
straint and fulfillment; har-
mony between man and na-
ture; a holistic approach to
health and well-being. It is
not about exercise but to dis-
cover the sense of oneness
with yourself, the world, and
nature. By changing our life-
style and creating conscious-
ness, it can help in wellbeing.
Let us work towards adopting
an International Yoga Day.”
The world was awakened
and the UN going through
its routine process de-
clared in December 2014
that henceforth the Inter-
national Day of Yoga will
be celebrated every year.
Despite objections by vari-
ous religious heads, it has
now been accepted that Yoga,
as practised internationally,
is devoid of any religious
content but at the same time
it is not only for physical fit-
ness but also helps in attain-
ing inner peace. Attainment
of inner peace is an individ-
ual requirement and is not
religion specific. Yoga has
now emerged as one of the
elements of India’s multifar-
ious soft power.
Namaste, Namaskar, or
Namaskaram, the Hindu
way of greeting has al-
ready gained wider accept-
ance and global recogni-
tion. Social distancing
would be the norm post
corona and Namaste is
considered the better and
appropriate form of greet-
ing maintaining the requi-
site distance. Persons
greeting each other place
their palms together, fin-
gers pointing upward, and
say “Namaste” with a bow.
“Namaste” is a combination
of words derived from San-
skrit that mean “I bow to
you.” It is a noncontact form
of greeting, as opposed to
hugging or shaking hands. It
is quite proper if a person
from a different culture uses
this form of salutation to an-
other person, Hindu or non-
Hindu. Thus, though recog-
nised as Hindu way of greet-
ing, Namaste can have uni-
versal acceptance due to its
spiritual component.
We are fortunate that we
are led at this crucial junc-
ture also by none other
than Narendra Modi. As
the world is accepting new
ways of living to avoid the
spread of corona, PM Modi
should take lead to pro-
mote the Vedic way of life
sans any religious compo-
nent. There are numerous
pluses of Vedic way of life
which the global commu-
nity would adopt happily
as they did while accepting
Yoga. Ayurveda is also
gaining popularity as an
alternative system of med-
icine. Clinical trials for
Ayurvedic medicine for COV-
ID have begun. If this experi-
ment succeeds, it would be-
come easier to sell the idea of
Vedic culture as the new
norminthepost-Covid-19era.
India through its various
organisations particularly
the Indian Council for Cul-
tural Relations (ICCR) should
take the lead to promote Ve-
dic culture worldwide itself
and through the UN. If need-
ed a separate vertical of In-
ternational Promotion of
Vedic Culture be added to the
existing organisation of
ICCR to provide it the neces-
sary impetus and funds.
When India advocates Vedic
way of life it is not doing
with a view to promote a par-
ticular religion but to pro-
mote the culture that con-
ceived the idea of Vasudhai-
va Kutumbakam (world is
one family).

lockdowns have
led to a massive
reduction in
global emis-
sions, but there’s one area
where energy usage is up
– way up – during the pan-
demic: internet traffic.
Data-intensive video
streaming, gaming and
livestreaming for busi-
ness, university and
school classes, is chew-
ing up energy.
Estimates can be noto-
riously difficult and de-
pend on the electricity
source, but six hours of
streaming video may be
the equivalent of burn-
ing one litre of petrol,
due to emissions from
the electricity used to
power the data centres
which deliver the video.
In fact, the energy as-
sociated with the global
IT sector – from power-
ing internet servers to
charging smartphones –
is estimated to have the
same carbon footprint as
the aviation industry’s
fuel emissions (before
planes were grounded).
But Australia is a global
leader in research to lower
theenergyusedinIT,which
is vital for meeting the
streaming demand without
the environmental cost.
WHERE DOES THE
DATA COME FROM?
Video requires huge
amounts of data, and ac-
counts for around 80% of
the data transmitted on the
internet. Much of the en-
ergy needed for streaming
services is consumed by
data centres, which deliver
data to your computer or
device. Increasingly
housed in vast factory-
sized buildings, these serv-
ers store, process and dis-
tribute internet traffic.
Research in 2015 found
data centres may consume
as much as 13% of the
world’s electricity by 2030,
accounting for about 6% of
global carbon dioxide
emissions. And the Euro-
pean Commission-funded
Eureca project found data
centres in EU countries
consumed 25% more ener-
gy in 2017 compared with
2014.
Imagine what those
figures will look like at
the end of this year of
home-bound internet
use.
The growth in IT is of-
ten taken for granted. In
contrast to the old days
of dial-up internet, we
now demand a three-
hour movie, in high defi-
nition, to download im-
mediately. We want
phones that can take
video like a pro.
None of this is free.
Nor is it sustainable.
Every year the number
of computations, or
transmission of infor-
mation through space,
done globally, increases
by 60%, according to
2011 research.
All this computation
uses “transistors”. These
are tiny switches that am-
plify electrical signals, and
are made using silicon-
based technology.
For the past 40 years, our
ever-increasing need for
more computing was large-
ly satisfied by incremental
improvements in silicon-
based computing technol-
ogy – ever-smaller, ever-
faster, ever-more efficient
chips. We refer to this con-
stant shrinking of silicon
components as “Moore’s
law”.
For example, since the
late1970sthelengthof tran-
sistors reduces by about
30%, and the area by about
50%, every two years. This
shrinks the energy used in
switching on and off each
transistor by about 50%,
which is better for the envi-
ronment.
While each transistor
uses only a tiny amount of
energy, there are billions of
transistorsinatypicalcom-
puter chip, each switching
billions of time per second.
This can add up to a vast
amount of energy.

Ayodhya. Dayal and his collegue Iqbal Mistri say
this is the first time they have worked on a bell of
this size. “What’s unique about it is that it is just

indigenisation of de-

fence Minister Rajnath
Singh announced on
Sunday, while stating it
as a big step towards ‘At-

reliance) in defence.
In a series of tweets,
he made some major an-
nouncements and said
that Defence Ministry
haspreparedalistof 101
items for which there
would be an embargo on
the import beyond the
timeline indicated
against them. The Min-
ister also said that the
Defence Ministry has
also bifurcated the capi-
tal procurement budget
for 2020-21 between do-
mestic and foreign capi-
tal procurement routes.
A separate budget head
has been created with
an outlay of nearly Rs
52,000 crore for domestic
capital procurement in
the current financial
year, he said.
“The Ministry of De-
fence is now ready for a
big push to #Atmanirb-

MoD will introduce im-
port embargo on 101
items beyond given
timeline to boost indi-
genisation of defence

tweeted.
“Prime Minister Nar-

another tweet.
“Taking cue from that
evocation, the Ministry

which there would be an
embargo on the import
beyond the timeline in-
dicated against them.
This is a big step to-

The Defence Minister
said that the decision
will offer a great oppor-

facture the items in the
negative list by using
their own design and de-
velopment capabilities
or adopting the technol-

the armed forces are
pushing a case for arm-
ing their Heron UAVs
with laser-guided
bombs, precision-guid-
ed munitions and anti-
tank missiles for taking
out enemy positions
and armoured regi-
ments. The proposal
named Project Cheetah
has been revived by the
armed forces after be-
ing pending for a long
time and is expected to
cost over Rs 3,500 crores
to the government.
“Under this project,
around 90 Heron drones
of the three services
would be upgraded to be
armed with laser-guid-
ed bombs, air to ground
and air-launched anti-
tank guided missiles,”
government sources
said. The case is going
to be considered by a
high-level Defence Min-
istry body including
Defence Secretary Ajay
Kumar, who is now the
in-charge of all capital
procurements for the
three services.
In the proposal,
armed forces have pro-
posed to equip drones
with stronger surveil-
lance and reconnais-
sance payloads for keep-
ing an eye on enemy lo-
cations and stations and
take them out, if re-
quired. The upgraded
UAVs can be used
against conventional
military operations as
well as in counter-ter-
rorism operations in
future, if required,

wrote an emotional
three page letter to all
200 MLAs of Rajasthan
Assembly, appealing to
them to listen to peo-
ple’s voice to “save de-
mocracy and to stand
by truth”. CM sought
cooperation from them
to what he called ‘fulfil
the promises of devel-
opment and prosperity
of the desert state’.
“Victory and defeat
are part of elections.
However, as a leader,
you should stand with
people. I hope you shall
stand with truth. Peo-
ple’s mandate remains

thing. You should ex-
tend full cooperation in
fulfilling promises
made to the people.
Leaders like Indira
Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi,
and Atalji also faced de-
feat. However, they
never weakened demo-
cratic traditions and
constitutional values,”
Gehlot said.
He also informed
MLAs of painstaking
exercise of fight against
Corona that the entire
government machinery
is undertaking and how
with efficient manage-
ment by Rajasthan gov-
ernment is keeping the
virus in check. Howev-
er, he lamented at his
old colleagues’ action in
toppling his govern-
ment. “Even during the
COVID-19 pandemic, a
few of Congress MLAs
along with the opposi-
tion lawmakers were
engaged in a conspiracy
to destabilise our elect-
ed government, which
is quite unfortunate,”
he said.
Gehlot recalled that
in 1993-96, attempts
were made to topple
state government led by
BJP leader Bhairon
Singh Shekhawat by
buying and selling
MLAs.
“At that time, as Un-
ion Minister of State
and state Congress
President, I met then
Governor Baliram Bha-
gat and PM PV Nar-
asimha Rao and op-
posed idea of toppling
the elected government,
stating that this is
against our democratic
values. Even the people
of this state would nev-
er want such a tradition
to be established in Ra-
jasthan,” he added.
CM maintained that
six BSP MLAs joined
Congress by following
all norms. “They decid-
ed to merge with the
Congress Legislature
Party for forming a sta-
ble government and to
ensure developmental
work in their respective
areas within the pur-
view of law.”
He ended his letter by
saying that he is confi-
dent that all MLAs will
stand with by truth and
work for the develop-
ment and prosperity of
the state.

student. The girl used
to go to the IAS’s home
for coaching. When the
alleged rape occurred,
the student registered
anFIR,theIASwassus-
pended and the man
went underground and
during this time, he re-
tired. However, after
three years, the man
surrendered before the
cops.
An interesting inci-
dent of a feud between
an IAS couple from the
90s is fresh still in the
memories of the cur-
rent generation of sen-
ior bureaucrats. Theirs
was a love marriage
and while the husband
was extremely good
looking, he was also of
a ‘colorful personality’.
hehadtakenseveralin-
novative steps in the
education department
and on the other hand,
had several girlfriends
a well and this was the
reason for his constant
fights with his wife.
The duo was sent to
Delhi on deputation
and the husband got
posted in the education
ministry. The husband
then entered in a rela-
tionship with a female
assistantprofessor.The
husband would secret-
ly spend nights with
the professor however,
one day the wife came
to know of it and she
reached Bangalore and
caught the husband
and paramour, red-
handed.
But this was not the
only incident from the
90s. In fact, there was a
Collector ‘sahab’ in
Jaipurwhohadayoung
female IAS officer on
probation under him.
TheCollectorlosthis
heart to the young IAS
and since his wife used
to stay unwell, in a way,
he made the probation-
aryIAShissecondwife,
and their relationship
was a known fact!
The female IAS did
not marry anyone else
and the sahab that re-
tired in the 90s, stays in
Jaipur.
Next in line is the
‘stories’ around a fe-
male IAS who, while
being Collector, had
worked wonders in a
city known for its reli-
gious site. The woman
had entered in love
marriage with the son
of arenownedfigureof
Rajasthan, but since
the husband’s posting
was out of state, the
wife was at ‘play’.
Words of her ‘friend-
ship’ with several IAS
were rife.
Then there was an
IAS, who was not only
closetothethenCM,he
even held a senior posi-
tion in an important
ministry in New Delhi.
A former Rajasthan
University Student,
this IAS, stayed in vari-
ous institutions even
after his posting but he
wasmorerenownedfor
his ‘friendship’ with
several female IAS.
Such was his ‘efficacy’,
that he was ‘close’ to
two female politicians
too!
While these ‘inci-
dents’ were mostly un-
derwrapsfromthegen-
eral public, there was
one wherein the gener-
alpublicbecameaspec-
tator too. A senior IAS
officer, who got mar-
ried to the daughter of
a top bureaucrat of Ra-
jasthan cadre hailing
from Southern India,
also caught in this ‘Pati
Patni aur Woh’, a trian-
gle where the bureau-
crat, after divorcing his
wife, entered into a
friendly relationship
with one of his friend’s
wifewhichsubsequent-
ly became a talk of the
town, especially in bu-
reaucratic circles.
The climax of the
situation was that one
day, in broad daylight,
at a prominent cinema
hall in Jaipur, the wom-
an’s husband virtually
slapped and beat the
IAS officer and left the
cinema hall along with
his wife after this tus-
sle.Unfortunately,after
a few years, the lady’s
husband expired due to
some illness and after
having a long live-in re-
lationship with the
lady, the officer demon-
strated courage and
convictionandgotmar-
ried to the same wom-
an.
Now, they are one of
the most happily mar-
ried couples in the
town.

Jaipur: The Rajasthan
government will soon
introduce a tourism
policy with an aim to
revive the tourism sec-
tor which has suffered a
great loss due to lock-
down and corona pan-
demic.
The draft of policy
focused on promoting
tourism activities at
iconic monuments, spe-
cial heritage village,
crafts villages, desert,
eco and adventure tour-
ism, is reportedly ready
and will be introduced
soon, an official said.
Along with these, cul-
tural, crafts, cuisine
tourism, rural, film and
wedding tourism will
also be the key focus ar-
eas of the policy.
Tourism season in
the desert state will be-
gin from September and
ahead of the season, the
government discussed
ways to restore the tour-
ism activities.
The discussion on the
draft of the new policy
was discussed in a
meeting chaired by
chief minister Ashok
Gehlot on last week.
The chief minister
had asked the officials
to strengthen the tour-
ism infrastructure and
prepare the plan as per
the emerging trends so
that both domestic tour-
ists and foreigners can
be attracted in large
numbers.
In order to give a new
lease of life to tradition-
al events, a fresh brand-
ing of Pushkar fair, de-
sert festival, Kumbhal-
garh and Bundi fairs
will be done.
Saying that there are
many heritage and reli-
gious places in the state
which are important
from an archeological
point of view, the chief
minister instructed the
officials to prepare a
plan for the develop-
ment of such sites.
He also said that a
permanent solution to
the problem of water in
Bharatpur’s Keoladeo
national park should be
found.
The issues of touts,
cheating with tourists
and other issues were
also discussed in the
meeting.
After the chief minis-
ter’s meeting and direc-
tions, senior officials of
the department met on
Friday and held de-
tailed discussions on
the draft of the new
tourism policy.
Principal secretary
Tourism Alok Gupta,
additional directors of
the department Manish
Arora, Sanjay Pandey,
joint director Anand
Tripathi and other offi-
cials held the discus-
sions.
In the meeting, dis-
cussions were held on
operating Palace on
Wheels trains on short-
er routes.
“After the chief min-
ister’s directions, ef-
forts are being made to
revive the tourism ac-
tivities. The new tour-
ism policy will be help-
ful in this direction,” an
official said.

‘RAJIV-RAHUL’
KEEPING CONG
FLOCK TOGETHER!
In the political parlance, two names,
whenever uttered bring about an
image of the Congress party in our
minds. These words are Rajiv and
Rahul. While Late Rajiv Gandhi
was transforming the nation, his
son Rahul, is also working at his
own pace in the political arena. One
would fathom that with all the Gehlot
supporting Congress MLAs camped
in Suryagarh hotel in Jaisalmer,
the mention of Rajiv and Rahul in
the political discussions would be
a given thing. However, there is yet
another Rajiv-Rahul duo that has
been carrying out the same work
the political Rajiv-Rahul duo have
had to do, ie keeping the Congress
flock together! Well, this Rajiv-Rahul
duo hail from the IPS stock and are
charged with ‘fortification’ of the
Congress ‘stronghold’. The duo has
been working relentlessly on a 24/7
hour mode. Interestingly, while in the
political family Rajiv is elder to Rahul,
among this duo, it is Rahul who is
‘senior’ to Rajiv. As SP, Rahul Prakash
has been doing an exemplary job and
keeps an eagle eye on the activities at
Suryagarh whereas four years junior
to him is Rajiv Pachar and since he
has served in Jaisalmer, knows the
area and its ‘political environment’
too. Notably, CM Ashok Gehlot trusts
both the officers as they are one of the
most updated officials in the district.
—Laxman Raghav
ONLY PILOT, NO ONE
ELSE, AS CM
O
nly two days before, one of
Rajasthan’s leading newspaper
carried Pilot camp MLAs’
unconfirmed view that they are ready
to sacrifice Pilot camp’s stand to
Sachin Pilot as the Chief Minister,
provided Congress high command
agrees for a third choice (other
than Gehlot and Pilot). Now in this
context, speaking to First India a
Pilot camp MLA has claimed that
none of their camp members have
been approached or have spoken
to the high command. “Any third
person is not an option for us for the
position of Chief Minister. We only
want Sachin Pilot as CM, the MLA
said. Denying moving to Gujarat, the
MLA said, “Where we were earlier,
we are camping still at the same
place,” the MLA said. Interestingly,
the group is now planning to release
an official statement on Friday
through a video message.

Barmer: Union minis-
ter Kailash Chaudhary
on Thursday said the
Congress government
in Rajasthan, led by
Chief Minister Ashok
Gehlot, would collapse
and its countdown has
begun.
With this, he said, the
Congress’s politics too
would come to an end in
the state.
Chaudhary, who is on
a three-day visit to his
parliamentary constitu-
ency Barmer, said the
state government has
lost the confidence of
people and the chief
minister has to confine
MLAs to hotels.
“The Gehlot govern-
ment will fail to prove
its majority in the floor
test in the Assembly.
Not only the people of
Rajasthan have lost
faith in the govern-
ment, ministers and
MLAs too are not happy
with the chief minis-
ter,” he said.
Interacting with the
locals of Lakha, Jhin-
jhinyali, Devikot and
other villages of Jais-
almer, the Union minis-
ter of state for agricul-
ture said the Centre has
introduced
many
schemes and pro-
grammes for public wel-
fare.
He also pointed out
that the provisions of
Article 370 of the Con-
stitution were abrogat-
ed in Jammu and Kash-
mir and the foundation
for the construction of
a Ram temple in Ayod-
hya was laid during the
rule of the current gov-

Jaipur.TheCoronapan-
demic has hit the world
economy hard and India
could be no exception to
it. This is being reflected
in the income Tax re-
turns filed so far.
Centre on its part
tried to stimulate the
economic activities in
the country by announc-
ing a 20 lakh crore eco-
nomicpackage.Withthe
economic package into
its implementation for
almost two months now
itisalmostclearthatthe
derailed economy is yet
to come back on track.
This is being instant-
ly proved by the income
tax returns filed so far.
The four months of the
financial year have wit-
nessed a sharp drop in
the number of I-T re-
turns in the state. At an
average there are
around 40 lakh I-T re-
turns filed every year
for which the last date
was 31 July 31.
The corona induced
lockdown for two
months forced the I-T
department to extend
the last date to file the
returns till November
30, 2020.
I-T sources say the ex-
tension of the last date
is one big reason for less
number of returns filed
sofarandthenumberof
returns will increase
significantly in October.
The I-T department
too had to change its
working due to less
number of I-T returns
by reducing the number
of cases taken for scru-
tiny. The I-T department
had selected only 0.13%
cases for scrutiny in
2017-18 and the same
trend is expected to con-
tinue this year as well.

twice, dismal show of I-T returns so far

Is it re- ally true that the saf- fron party’s ‘desert’ unit is being ‘polar- ized’? questions like these are making the rounds in political cir- cles in Rajasthan as well as in New Delhi and the recent ‘tussle’ on shifting legislators out of Rajasthan and Raje’s perpetual ‘Delhi visit’ have only fanned the fire. Political observers, highly familiar with the internal workings of the BJP, claim that while all may look good on the face, internally, leaders are riled up. Sources claim that the central leadership had asked for select few MLAs to be shifted to Gujarat and interest- ingly, these legislators are believed to be of ‘Raje camp’ in the party. Seasoned Cong MLA Ramnarayan Meena has put up more than 25 questions for upcoming assembly session which cover departments like UDH, Social Welfare, Water Resources, PWD, Developed Irrigated Area, Energy, Youth Af- fairs, Medical & Health and Cooperative. Meena has put up questions concerning student facilities too. The upcoming ses- sion is all set for a stormy gathering with govt answering ques- tions like phone tap- ping, suicide by police- men, rape & kidnapping of minors & women, criminal cass of Nokha, matters related to ille- gal tobacco trade, inci- dents of murder 7 da- coties along with custo- dial deaths. BJP MLAs Poonia, Rajendra Rathore, Kalicharan, Ram Lal & Bihari Lal Vishnoi will be target- ing the law & order situ- ation in the state. Kali- charan Saraf will be seen trying to corner the govt on the phone tapping issue. BJP MLAs Chagan & Nir- mal will try to shame govt through the locust attack while Poonia will leave no stone unturned by pointing out Home department failures po- lice suicide cases. Poo- nia will also turn a leaf from recent history of black marketing of food items during the lock- down period. Kiran Ma- heshwari will shock the govt by raising issues of electricity. First India Bureau Jaipur. It is finally offi- cial that the state unit of BJP will start the camp for its 72 MLAs along with 3 RLP MLAs at Ho- tel Crown Plaza, Jaipur at 4 pm on 11 August. LOP Gulabchand Ka- taria called MLA him- self while state chief Poonia conveyed the message officially. Ka- taria informed that for- mer CM Raje too will be part of the camp. Amid the ongoing political game of one-upmanship BJP after dispatching its 18 MLAs to Gujarat has changed strategy. The initial plan was to send 12 more MLAs to Gujarat but now the re- sponsibility of all has been given to the dis- tricts who have been asked to keep a strict watch on their MLAs and any probable con- tact with Cong leaders district admin to lure them. BJP MLA San- tosh was called by BJP leaders to explain in de- tail why couldn’t she leave with the rest of MLAs for Gujarat on Friday. LOP Kataria too had a talk with MLA Shankar Singh and some others who had been attempted to con- tact by Congress. An im- portant meeting was held at Kataria’s resi- dence on Sunday which was attended by state chief Satish Poonia and deputy LOP Rajendra Rathore. It was decided that MLA Ashok Lahoti will be responsible for accomodation. The in- teresting aspect amid all this caution is that BJP has officially demanded for President’s rule in the state. BJP state unit is enraged by the state- ment given by Rajendra Singh. Both Poonia and Kataria have talked to the national leadership regarding Gudha’s claim that BJP will not be able to bring its 72 MLAs to assembly on 14 August. Laxman Raghav Jaisalmer: “BJP has vindicated all our alle- gations by camping its MLAs in Gujarat” said PCC president Do- tasara. He said all along Congress was saying that the state unit of BJP is being governed by the central leader- ship who want to pull down the Gehlot govt while there were some state BJP leaders who are against destabiliz- ing an elected govt. Do- tasara took a jibe at BJP and said that MLAs get votes from people of Raj but are taken Gujarat, Haryana & Karnataka. PCC chief also com- mented on central min- ister Kailash Choud- hary for contributing forthespreadof corona- virus in Jaisalmer with testimony of his testing corona positive. Do- tasara didn’t spare cen- tral minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and lambasted him for lay- ing false charges of tap- ping phones in Hotel Suryagarh and said he should first answer about his voice on the viral audio tapes. He said our MLAs at Sury- agarh are free to move & talk. He also appealed to all dissidents along with Sachin Pilot that they should break shackles & come out. Dotasara also criticized the Gujarat model of politics which doesn’t respect the man- date of the people. He also defended the merg- er of 6 BSP MLAs with Congress citing Su- preme Court decisions. First India Bureau Junagadh: Taking no chances, the Ra- jasthan BJP that had moved its 6 legisla- tors to Gujarat ahead of the crucial Assem- bly session in that State starting on Au- gust 14, shifted them yet again in the early hours of Sunday. Initially, there was a suspense about where they were taken from the Somnath Darshan hotel in Somnath after an overnight stay. It was found later that they had been moved to the farm house of a political leader in Junagadh, which is a 2-hour drive from Somnath. The six MLAs land- ed at Porbandar air- port in a chartered flight on Saturday evening from they drove straight to Somnath after a small break at Lord’s resort on the Por- bandar highway. The Congress gov- ernment in Rajasthan under Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is in strife after Deputy CM Sachin Pilot re- belled and was sacked from the post. The 6 BJP MLAs, who reached Gujarat, told reporters that the Congress government in Rajasthan was “har- assing” Opposition MLAs, and that they had come on a pilgrim- age to Somnath to seek mental peace. Drunk son kills father over an argument First India Bureau Sriganganagar: In Chaks 3 DD of Ghar- sana, a son Ramkumar stabbed and killed his father with an axe. The son was drunk and two had an argument over something. The post- mortem was done in the government hospital. Acc to the information, Ramswaroop hit the axe on the hand of his son, which angered Ramku- mar, who attacked his father with the axe, he was then taken hospital and was declared dead. First India Bureau Jaipur: BJP MLA Pab- baram Vishnoi tried to justify the camping of BJP MLAs by citing the diff between the two political parties. Vishnoi said Cong has kept its MLAs under serious restrictions where they have no freedom of movement. He charged Cong lead- ership of not letting the MLAs meet anyone. He mockingly said that he was also in a camp surrounded by and at- tending his voters CM Ashok Gehlot planting a sappling in Jaisalmer where Govind S Dotasara Bhanwar Singh Bhati and others were present. Yogesh Sharma Jaipur: The political environment is chang- ing every minute before the 14 August assembly session. Congress and BJP are trying to keep their respective flock together by camping them at safe places. Congress camp on Sun- day discussed the floor management in pres- ence of KC Venugopal, Avinash Pande, Govind Singh Dotasara, Shanti Dhariwal, Mahesh Joshi, Mahendra Chod- hary & others. Their strategy is that the frontal attack team of the Cong will play a proactive role whether it is confidence motion, vote division or voice vote. The task of failing aggressive opposition attack is their task. The team will be led by Shanti Dhariwal, BD Kalla. Meanwhile, Mahesh Joshi and Mahendra Chodhary assisting Dhariwal, will ensure the pres- ence of Cong MLAs in the house. Dhariwal will handle policy matters while Do- tasara will focus on individual MLAs. The retaliatory at- tack team includes Dr Ragu Sharma, Govind Singh Dotasara, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Mamta Bhupesh, Shale Mod, Sukhram Vishnoi, Subhash Garg, Ashok Chandna, Madan Praja- pat, Jagdish Jangid, Kh- iladi Lal bairwa, Ganesh Ghogra, Rohit Bohra & others. The frontal team in- cludes non Cong MLAs like Sanyam Lodha, Babu Lal Nagar, Baljit Yadav, Balwan Poonia and rajkumar gaur apart from others. San- yam KLodha has been assigned roles both in & out the house. MEENA CRITICISED BJP, ‘TRIBALS ARE LOYAL’ WHY WOULD CONG POACH BJP MLAS: CHOUDHARY Laxman Raghav Jaisalmer: Leader Raguveer Meena criticised BJP for calling tribal ‘a soft target’ in ref to their Gujarat camp. He said tribals are loyal, they prefer laying down their lives than selling their conscience. BJP always mates out such derogato- ry treatment to its tribal leaders,” citing BJP insulting its tribal leader. Jaisalmer: Revenue minister Harish Chodhary reacted to BJP allegations of fear of poaching its MLAs. Chodhary said why would Congress poach anybody’s MLAs when it has a majority on its own. Speaking on 19 dissident Congress MLAs Choudhary said that first they should give up the BJP hospitality and then the Congress high command will take a call on them. Dr Satish Poonia

Shivendra Pramar Jaipur: The collector- ate is all set not only to save on electrical bills, but also to contribute in electricity production. The solar electricity project carried out by REEL under Smart City project has set up solar panels on the roof of the campus. The solar project will not only facilitate elec- tricity in around 200 rooms and conference halls in the district ad- ministration building. The average electric bill which collectorate pays in summers is Rs 4-5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh in winters per month. With the 200 KW solar project in place the col- lectorate will save 50% of the expenses and pay balance 50% to REEL as per the MOU. The me- ters installed with the solar plant will let the officers know how much electricity they produce, consume and contribute to the grid. It is being assumed that the installed solar plant will produce electricity for 300 days a year with production ranging be- tween 2.90 – 3.40 lakh units per annum. At present collectorate is consuming 4.20 lakh units every year. Collector Antar Sin- gh Nehra and ADM Ra- jendra Singh Kaviya say that the office will consume the electricity production on week- days but will contribute to the grid on the week- ends. Further the dis- trict administration will no more suffer dur- ing unannounced elec- tricity cuts. This is an important and positive step to- wards good governance and saving on state ex- chequer while ensuring service to the people during working hours. Jpr Collectorate to go green, produce solar energy! Jodh cops set blockades; Deshnok under lockdown First India Bureau Jodhpur:Onthesecond day of the lockdown in Jodhpur, the police de- partment set up block- ades at many crossings in the district. DCP Dharmendra Singh Ya- dav did a surprise in- spection and repri- manded sepoys sta- tioned on the blockade when he saw that the barricade was not set properly. Also, a 5-day lock- down has been imposed in Deshnok of Bikaner. Deshnok has been de- clared as no mobility zone. Udaipur district administration imposed complete lockdown on Sunday. A lockdown was implemented in the Udaipur Municipal Cor- porationboundary.Only essential services have been exempted. Power tussle in dept proves dear for wildlife Nirmal Tiwari Jaipur: State wildlife department instead of conserving wildlife is busy conserving fa- vorite officers and in- stead of targeting the guilty of tiger deaths are busy targeting rival officers. First Sariska and now Mukundara, Chief Wildlife Warden Arvind Tomar is being targeted by a particular lobby which is blessed by the forest department chief GV Reddy. Tomar alone isontheradarfordeaths of tigers in Mukundara tiger reserve while the administrative officers of the forest depart- ment, higher officials and all the employees from smallest tracker to the field director in the tiger reserve are being spared. This exposes the shoddy working culture in the state wildlife con- servation department. Recently the forest de- partment employees protested against PCCF GV Reddy in Rantham- bore which was only subdued after tiger deaths in Mukundara reserve. This was fol- lowed by a wildlife lover, close to Reddy, taking to social media and criti- cizing Tomar which clearly exposed that the two weren’t getting along well. This one up- manship is on the costof lives of wild animals. Only intervention from the CM level can change the way the department has got used to working. Bajri mafia’s influence takes a life on road Co-op leaders hail Agri fund, ask people to take benefit Former MP recalls his Quit India Movement days First India Bureau Bhilwara: Road acci- dents are on a hike in the district due to the reckless driving of gravel vehicles and fear of gravel mafia. A simi- lar incident took place in Mangrop on Sunday after the death of the SDMdriverinJahazpur and the death of a bike rider in Arjia village. On Sunday, a tractor trolley filled with grav- el hit a motorcycle rider at Devnala crossing near Siyar village. First India Bureau Jaipur: Cooperative leaders have welcomed the Rs 1 lakh crore Ag- ricultural Infrastruc- ture Fund (AIF) an- nounced by the central government. Govern- ment employee’s union leader Surajbhan Am- era hailed the an- nouncement about the fund and said that it belatedly fulfils the de- mand made by All In- dia cooperative bank employee’s federation and its leader late P Balakrishnan. He said the Agricul- tural Infrastructure Fund will go a long way in strengthening the agriculture, farmers and cooperative move- ment throughout the country. The fund will also help in making stronger, the post har- vesting management, storage, cold storage, product storage cent- ers, processing. Apart from all that it will also strengthen the activi- ties carried out by Packs and Lampas. In the long run around 1,000 packs and lampas will benefit from the fund which initially will be picked up by NABARD. The fund will effec- tively let the credit float at zero percent which is 3% at the an- nounced rate. The co- operative leaders have appealed to all stake- holders to get complete knowledge of the AIF and take maximum benefit from it. Ramk- ishan and former MLA Mukut Bihari Goyal and others from Bharat- pur had also participat- ed in the movement. “That time I was stud- ying in a middle school in Ucchain. Nearly 20-25 students in support of the movement had also opposed a prayer meet- ing. We all wore the Gandhi topi and took out a march. Seeing our adamant behavior, the headmaster did not in- terfere later. After that, I got associated with Prajamandal and other movements,” he re- called. The former MP, who also has been MLA four times, said that he still wears the Gandhi cap. Editor: Jagdeesh Chandra, responsible for selection of news under the PRB Act edic culture is not religion specific but a way of life. It was the daily routine and rituals during the Vedic Pe- riod. The after-effects of co- rona which would cripple manyeconomies, makemany individuals jobless and turn many rich households to the poor would need the internal strength and peace to over- come the trauma. There is likely to be a paradigm shift in our way of life with glitter, extravagance giving way to simplicity and purity. It is very interesting to know that some elements of the culture of the Vedic Age have survived for al- most 3,000 years and con- tinue to be a part of Indian culture even today. The Ve- dic period saw the emer- gence and exploitation of technology with the discov- ery of Iron. Many crafts de- veloped during this period and growth of population and surplus of food grain due to extensive farming led to ur- banisation. The period also witnessed the emergence of a sound system of governance even though the hereditary system prevailed. The Gu- rukul system of education, though not universal, was aimed at the holistic develop- mentof Shishyaswhichmade them great warriors and kings. Meditation was the means to achieve inner peace. Many of the things being promoted now worldwide as new norms of living to avoid being affected by co- rona were the usual norms during the Vedic period as very strict norms of hy- giene were followed. Like we are now being told not to touch our eyes, nose, etc with- out washing hands in Manusamriti (4/144) it is written “Without a reason don’t touch your own in- driyas (eyes, nose, ears, etc). As regards frequent washing of hands, Pad- mashristi (51/88) states “Wash your hands, feet, mouth before you eat”. An- other common thing being insisted now is avoid re-use and frequent change of cloth- ing particularly after you re- turn home from a visit out- side. In the same scripture shloka 51/83 says “Don’t use the cloth (like towel) used by another person for drying yourself after a bath.” The Mahabharat teaches “Use different clothes while sleeping while going out while visit- ing a place of worship”. In Vishnusamriti shloka 64 preaches “Clothes once worn should not be worn again before washing.” Aren’t these going to be the norms in the post COVID – 19 era? The material (samagri) used for Havan (fire worship) in Indian Households includ- ing incense sticks use many ingredients that purify the atmosphere and keep infec- tions away. This is also a gift of the Vedic period which if promoted like Yoga could change the way of life of many. The word ‘yoga’ is derived from Sanskrit which means to join or to unite. Yoga is a physical, mental, and spirit- ual practice that originated in India. Yoga which was not very popular internationally and was desisted by some la- belling it to be religion spe- cific has now become popu- lar worldwide due to the ef- fort of PM Narendra Modi who succeeded in United Na- tions Organisation (UNO) General Assembly 2014 de- claring 21 June as The Inter- national Day of Yoga. 21 June was suggested as the date by PM Modi since it is the long- est day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world. It is being celebrated every year since then with increas- ing number of nations join- ing the celebrations. While addressing the UN General Assembly on 27 Sep- tember 2014, PM Modi advo- cated the promotion of Yoga internationally and stated, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; re- straint and fulfillment; har- mony between man and na- ture; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to dis- cover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world, and nature. By changing our life- style and creating conscious- ness, it can help in wellbeing. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.” The world was awakened and the UN going through its routine process de- clared in December 2014 that henceforth the Inter- national Day of Yoga will be celebrated every year. Despite objections by vari- ous religious heads, it has now been accepted that Yoga, as practised internationally, is devoid of any religious content but at the same time it is not only for physical fit- ness but also helps in attain- ing inner peace. Attainment of inner peace is an individ- ual requirement and is not religion specific. Yoga has now emerged as one of the elements of India’s multifar- ious soft power. Namaste, Namaskar, or Namaskaram, the Hindu way of greeting has al- ready gained wider accept- ance and global recogni- tion. Social distancing would be the norm post corona and Namaste is considered the better and appropriate form of greet- ing maintaining the requi- site distance. Persons greeting each other place their palms together, fin- gers pointing upward, and say “Namaste” with a bow. “Namaste” is a combination of words derived from San- skrit that mean “I bow to you.” It is a noncontact form of greeting, as opposed to hugging or shaking hands. It is quite proper if a person from a different culture uses this form of salutation to an- other person, Hindu or non- Hindu. Thus, though recog- nised as Hindu way of greet- ing, Namaste can have uni- versal acceptance due to its spiritual component. We are fortunate that we are led at this crucial junc- ture also by none other than Narendra Modi. As the world is accepting new ways of living to avoid the spread of corona, PM Modi should take lead to pro- mote the Vedic way of life sans any religious compo- nent. There are numerous pluses of Vedic way of life which the global commu- nity would adopt happily as they did while accepting Yoga. Ayurveda is also gaining popularity as an alternative system of med- icine. Clinical trials for Ayurvedic medicine for COV- ID have begun. If this experi- ment succeeds, it would be- come easier to sell the idea of Vedic culture as the new norminthepost-Covid-19era. India through its various organisations particularly the Indian Council for Cul- tural Relations (ICCR) should take the lead to promote Ve- dic culture worldwide itself and through the UN. If need- ed a separate vertical of In- ternational Promotion of Vedic Culture be added to the existing organisation of ICCR to provide it the neces- sary impetus and funds. When India advocates Vedic way of life it is not doing with a view to promote a par- ticular religion but to pro- mote the culture that con- ceived the idea of Vasudhai- va Kutumbakam (world is one family). THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL VEDIC CULTURE A NEW NORM POST COVID-19 V We are now being told to not to touch our eyes, nose etc without washing hands, in Manusamriti (4/144) it is written “Without a reason don’t touch your own indriyas (eyes, nose, ears etc). An ayurvedic drug in India called ZingiVir-H has gotten the go ahead for clinical trials with patients tested positive for corona o r o n a v i r u s lockdowns have led to a massive reduction in global emis- sions, but there’s one area where energy usage is up – way up – during the pan- demic: internet traffic. Data-intensive video streaming, gaming and livestreaming for busi- ness, university and school classes, is chew- ing up energy. Estimates can be noto- riously difficult and de- pend on the electricity source, but six hours of streaming video may be the equivalent of burn- ing one litre of petrol, due to emissions from the electricity used to power the data centres which deliver the video. In fact, the energy as- sociated with the global IT sector – from power- ing internet servers to charging smartphones – is estimated to have the same carbon footprint as the aviation industry’s fuel emissions (before planes were grounded). But Australia is a global leader in research to lower theenergyusedinIT,which is vital for meeting the streaming demand without the environmental cost. WHERE DOES THE DATA COME FROM? Video requires huge amounts of data, and ac- counts for around 80% of the data transmitted on the internet. Much of the en- ergy needed for streaming services is consumed by data centres, which deliver data to your computer or device. Increasingly housed in vast factory- sized buildings, these serv- ers store, process and dis- tribute internet traffic. Research in 2015 found data centres may consume as much as 13% of the world’s electricity by 2030, accounting for about 6% of global carbon dioxide emissions. And the Euro- pean Commission-funded Eureca project found data centres in EU countries consumed 25% more ener- gy in 2017 compared with 2014. Imagine what those figures will look like at the end of this year of home-bound internet use. The growth in IT is of- ten taken for granted. In contrast to the old days of dial-up internet, we now demand a three- hour movie, in high defi- nition, to download im- mediately. We want phones that can take video like a pro. None of this is free. Nor is it sustainable. Every year the number of computations, or transmission of infor- mation through space, done globally, increases by 60%, according to 2011 research. All this computation uses “transistors”. These are tiny switches that am- plify electrical signals, and are made using silicon- based technology. For the past 40 years, our ever-increasing need for more computing was large- ly satisfied by incremental improvements in silicon- based computing technol- ogy – ever-smaller, ever- faster, ever-more efficient chips. We refer to this con- stant shrinking of silicon components as “Moore’s law”. For example, since the late1970sthelengthof tran- sistors reduces by about 30%, and the area by about 50%, every two years. This shrinks the energy used in switching on and off each transistor by about 50%, which is better for the envi- ronment. While each transistor uses only a tiny amount of energy, there are billions of transistorsinatypicalcom- puter chip, each switching billions of time per second. This can add up to a vast amount of energy. CM sought cooperation from them to what he called ‘fulfil the promises of devel- opment and prosperity of the desert state’. “Victory and defeat are part of elections. However, as a leader, you should stand with people. I hope you shall stand with truth. Peo- ple’s mandate remains over and above every- thing. You should ex- tend full cooperation in fulfilling promises made to the people. Leaders like Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Atalji also faced de- feat. However, they never weakened demo- cratic traditions and constitutional values,” Gehlot said. He also informed MLAs of painstaking exercise of fight against Corona that the entire government machinery is undertaking and how with efficient manage- ment by Rajasthan gov- ernment is keeping the virus in check. Howev- er, he lamented at his old colleagues’ action in toppling his govern- ment. “Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, a few of Congress MLAs along with the opposi- tion lawmakers were engaged in a conspiracy to destabilise our elect- ed government, which is quite unfortunate,” he said. Gehlot recalled that in 1993-96, attempts were made to topple state government led by BJP leader Bhairon Singh Shekhawat by buying and selling MLAs. “At that time, as Un- ion Minister of State and state Congress President, I met then Governor Baliram Bha- gat and PM PV Nar- asimha Rao and op- posed idea of toppling the elected government, stating that this is against our democratic values. Even the people of this state would nev- er want such a tradition to be established in Ra- jasthan,” he added. CM maintained that six BSP MLAs joined Congress by following all norms. “They decid- ed to merge with the Congress Legislature Party for forming a sta- ble government and to ensure developmental work in their respective areas within the pur- view of law.” He ended his letter by saying that he is confi- dent that all MLAs will stand with by truth and work for the develop- ment and prosperity of the state. These road pro- jects will be taken up in Jhotwara, Phulera, Amer, Jamwaramgarh, Shahpura, Viratnagar and Bansur assembly constituencies. Stand with truth: An emotional Gehlot to MLAs First India Bureau Jaipur: It seems the le- gal countdown deciding BSP MLAs merger into the Congress last year has begun. BJPMLAMadanDila- war has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in Supreme court against the order of Rajasthan high court which did not stay the defection of six BSP MLAs to Congress in Rajasthan. A bench of three judg- es headed by Justice Arun Mishra will hear the SLP on Monday at 11 am. Dilwar said in the petition that the high court’s single judge bench did not stay the defection on the stay ap- plication and neither passed any verdict. He has requested the apex court to stay the defec- tionanddirectionstothe six MLAs to not vote for any party in floor test in the assembly. It was also requested that the MLAs should not be allowed to take partintheassemblypro- ceedings till the court’s verdict. Dilawar had chal- lenged the assembly speaker’s decision to al- lowthemergerof thesix MLAs through a writ petition in the high court, which issued no- tices to the speaker and secretary of the assem- blyandthesixMLAslast month. The MLAs have also appealed in the SC that the petition chal- lenging their defection be transferred to the Su- preme court from the Rajasthan high court. Six BSP MLAs-- Sand- eep Yadav, Wajib Ali, Deepchand Kheria, Lakhan Meena, Jogend- ra Awana and Rajendra Gudha-- defected to Con- gress in September last year which was a boost to the Ashok Gehlot gov- ernment and Congress, as its tally of MLAs had reached to 107. The hearing in the high court is crucial as the Gehlot government isfacingapoliticalcrisis after the revolt by 19 MLAs including Sachin Pilot. The assembly ses- sion beginning on Au- gust 14 is seen as a cru- cial session as the floor test is likely to happen amid the political stabil- ity in the state. BJP’s Madan Dilawar also files petition in SC challenging BSP defection Rajendra Chhabra T he renowned movie ‘Pati, Pat- ni aur Woh’ has not been an out of con- text movie for the Indi- an society. While there have been innumerable inci- dentsoutintheopenon which the storyline of the movie was based, there are those inci- dents too that are hushedup, particularly if it involves someone in the power corridors. Well, in Rajasthan bureaucracy, which is known to be one of the fairest and responsible bureaucracy in India, there too have been such “hiccups” that have lent a bad name. One of the most ‘fa- mous’ feud was be- tween an IAS couple, wherein the husband had reached the top bu- reaucratic assignment in Rajasthan. The bitterness be- tween the husband and wife had reached such levels that their issue reached court. The wife, who is the daugh- ter of a firebrand bu- reaucratic, went a step furtherandcomplained against her husband in WomenCommissionas well. Interestingly, the woman’s brother and sister also held power- ful positions in the gov- ernment. On the contrary, the husband-renownedfor his simplistic attitude and approach - used to stay extremely trou- bled due to the ‘excess- es’ of the wife. Due to the problems at his home, the bureaucracy, in general, was in the husband’sfavorandthe then CM, knowing all this, gave him the high- est posting from where the man retired. There is yet another well-known incident that involves two IAS - an ACS and a principal secretary. Both were neighbors so they would routinely go to each other’s houses. And one fine day, the ACS eloped with his neighbor’s wife. Mean- while, the IAS also found a certain some- one, a teacher, whom the man later married. An incident involv- ing an ACS rank officer made headlines for sev- eral days in the state’s media. The year was 2013 and a senior IAS was charged with rap- ing a 23-year-old MBA student. The girl used to go to the IAS’s home for coaching. When the alleged rape occurred, the student registered anFIR,theIASwassus- pended and the man went underground and during this time, he re- tired. However, after three years, the man surrendered before the cops. An interesting inci- dent of a feud between an IAS couple from the 90s is fresh still in the memories of the cur- rent generation of sen- ior bureaucrats. Theirs was a love marriage and while the husband was extremely good looking, he was also of a ‘colorful personality’. hehadtakenseveralin- novative steps in the education department and on the other hand, had several girlfriends a well and this was the reason for his constant fights with his wife. The duo was sent to Delhi on deputation and the husband got posted in the education ministry. The husband then entered in a rela- tionship with a female assistantprofessor. The husband would secret- ly spend nights with the professor however, one day the wife came to know of it and she reached Bangalore and caught the husband and paramour, red- handed. But this was not the only incident from the 90s. In fact, there was a Collector ‘sahab’ in Jaipurwhohadayoung female IAS officer on probation under him. TheCollectorlosthis heart to the young IAS and since his wife used to stay unwell, in a way, he made the probation- aryIAShissecondwife, and their relationship was a known fact! The female IAS did not marry anyone else and the sahab that re- tired in the 90s, stays in Jaipur. Next in line is the ‘stories’ around a fe- male IAS who, while being Collector, had worked wonders in a city known for its reli- gious site. The woman had entered in love marriage with the son of arenownedfigureof Rajasthan, but since the husband’s posting was out of state, the wife was at ‘play’. Words of her ‘friend- ship’ with several IAS were rife. Then there was an IAS, who was not only closetothethenCM,he even held a senior posi- tion in an important ministry in New Delhi. A former Rajasthan University Student, this IAS, stayed in vari- ous institutions even after his posting but he wasmorerenownedfor his ‘friendship’ with several female IAS. Such was his ‘efficacy’, that he was ‘close’ to two female politicians too! While these ‘inci- dents’ were mostly un- derwrapsfromthegen- eral public, there was one wherein the gener- alpublicbecameaspec- tator too. A senior IAS officer, who got mar- ried to the daughter of a top bureaucrat of Ra- jasthan cadre hailing from Southern India, also caught in this ‘Pati Patni aur Woh’, a trian- gle where the bureau- crat, after divorcing his wife, entered into a friendly relationship with one of his friend’s wifewhichsubsequent- ly became a talk of the town, especially in bu- reaucratic circles. The climax of the situation was that one day, in broad daylight, at a prominent cinema hall in Jaipur, the wom- an’s husband virtually slapped and beat the IAS officer and left the cinema hall along with his wife after this tus- sle.Unfortunately, after a few years, the lady’s husband expired due to some illness and after having a long live-in re- lationship with the lady, the officer demon- strated courage and convictionandgotmar- ried to the same wom- an. Now, they are one of the most happily mar- ried couples in the town. Nirmal Tiwari Jaipur: The Rajasthan government will soon introduce a tourism policy with an aim to revive the tourism sec- tor which has suffered a great loss due to lock- down and corona pan- demic. The draft of policy focused on promoting tourism activities at iconic monuments, spe- cial heritage village, crafts villages, desert, eco and adventure tour- ism, is reportedly ready and will be introduced soon, an official said. Along with these, cul- tural, crafts, cuisine tourism, rural, film and wedding tourism will also be the key focus ar- eas of the policy. Tourism season in the desert state will be- gin from September and ahead of the season, the government discussed ways to restore the tour- ism activities. The discussion on the draft of the new policy was discussed in a meeting chaired by chief minister Ashok Gehlot on last week. The chief minister had asked the officials to strengthen the tour- ism infrastructure and prepare the plan as per the emerging trends so that both domestic tour- ists and foreigners can be attracted in large numbers. In order to give a new lease of life to tradition- al events, a fresh brand- ing of Pushkar fair, de- sert festival, Kumbhal- garh and Bundi fairs will be done. Saying that there are many heritage and reli- gious places in the state which are important from an archeological point of view, the chief minister instructed the officials to prepare a plan for the develop- ment of such sites. He also said that a permanent solution to the problem of water in Bharatpur’s Keoladeo national park should be found. The issues of touts, cheating with tourists and other issues were also discussed in the meeting. After the chief minis- ter’s meeting and direc- tions, senior officials of the department met on Friday and held de- tailed discussions on the draft of the new tourism policy. Principal secretary Tourism Alok Gupta, additional directors of the department Manish Arora, Sanjay Pandey, joint director Anand Tripathi and other offi- cials held the discus- sions. In the political parlance, two names, whenever uttered bring about an image of the Congress party in our minds. These words are Rajiv and Rahul. While Late Rajiv Gandhi was transforming the nation, his son Rahul, is also working at his own pace in the political arena. One would fathom that with all the Gehlot supporting Congress MLAs camped in Suryagarh hotel in Jaisalmer, the mention of Rajiv and Rahul in the political discussions would be a given thing. However, there is yet another Rajiv-Rahul duo that has been carrying out the same work the political Rajiv-Rahul duo have had to do, ie keeping the Congress flock together! Well, this Rajiv-Rahul duo hail from the IPS stock and are charged with ‘fortification’ of the Congress ‘stronghold’. The duo has been working relentlessly on a 24/7 hour mode. Interestingly, while in the political family Rajiv is elder to Rahul, among this duo, it is Rahul who is ‘senior’ to Rajiv. As SP, Rahul Prakash has been doing an exemplary job and keeps an eagle eye on the activities at Suryagarh whereas four years junior to him is Rajiv Pachar and since he has served in Jaisalmer, knows the area and its ‘political environment’ too.
