THE RAY OF
HOPE!
PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI
ADITI NAGAR
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s
arrival in Ajmer on Wednesday, the
‘formal countdown’ to the 2023 Ra-
jasthan Assembly election would be-
gin. Although PM Modi has been fre-
quenting Rajasthan over the past few
months, having visited Dausa, Abu
Road, Banswara, and Bhilwara but it is
PM’s this visit to Ajmer and Pushkar,
that will mark a watershed moment for
the future of State’s polity
.
For BJP, PM Modi has been the defin-
ing leader whose persona and personal-
ity is acceptable and loved by all. His
oratory skills and his communication
power make him a leader that defies the
odds and brings momentum to his par-
ty
. Coupled with the on-ground impact
of Modi’s schemes and policies, it
would not be wrong to say that not just
his personality, but even the Pradhan-
Sevak’s ‘service delivery’ to the masses
is beyond comprehension, a feat hith-
erto unattainable for his opponents!
Thus, in PM Modi’s visit, State BJP
hopes to find a ‘revival’ against the Ra-
jasthan Congress, more so because of
what has happened in Karnataka, may
happen in Rajasthan as well, i.e. a like-
ly Muslim-vote polarisation on Karna-
taka pattern and mainly because of
Ashok Gehlot’s massive freebies cam-
paign like Old Pension Scheme, CM
Chiranjeevi Health Scheme where
health insurance upto 25 lakh is being
provided, free electricity scheme upto
a limit to farmers and households
along with free and subsidised gas cyl-
inders.
Modi’s visit to Rajasthan could also
be viewed through the lense of not one
but two more states, i.e. Madhya
Pradesh and Chhattisgarh as well,
which also go to poll about the same
time as Rajasthan. The BJP, which is
battling a defeat in Karnataka, has
pinned all its hopes to the charismatic
leader Modi, as traditionally, BJP has a
better hold in the Hindi-speaking states
than southern-states. Thus, bringing
its government in Rajasthan and
Chhattisgarh and repeating the cur-
rent Shivraj government in Madhya
Pradesh is a paramount priority for
Modi and BJP alike for which Amit
Shah’s strategy is also a top priori-
ty, more so because of the absence
of Vasundhara factor.
And Rajasthan, which has given all
25 MPs to BJP, both sides when Modi
contested for the Premiership of the na-
tion, has always loved the charismatic
leader, simply because in Rajasthan’s
stark landscape, people have built their
own unique culture that celebrates life,
which, in a way, has been the life story
of Narendra Modi — the leader, as well.
Therefore, now eagerly awaiting
the arrival of the most influential and
popular politician of our times who
has acquired the status of a global
leader, Rajasthan beckons saying,
‘Padharo Mhare Des’!
In absence of Vasundhara factor, a likely Muslim-
vote polarisation on Karnataka pattern and mainly
because of Ashok Gehlot’s massive freebies
campaign, a divided saffron party in Rajasthan
pins its hopes on a game-changer charismatic

hat the lone Congress MLA in
West Bengal Byron Biswas has
deserted the grand old party and
joined the TMC, is a piece of
news which any news agency
would be putting out to you.
However, as I have always in-
sisted on analysing news and go-
ing behind the news to find the
news, in this article we shall ex-
amine this piece of news micro-
scopically to find out the magni-
tude of the lone MLA’s exit from
the party which, in March 2023,
created news and ripples across
the political circles of the state
and how closely political ana-
lysts watched the developments
when he won the Sagardighi by-
poll in West Bengal by upsetting
the mighty TMC.
Three months after he had
won on a Congress ticket from
the crucial Sagardighi Assem-
bly seat in a bypoll, and by sav-
ing the grace for Congress by
giving the party its sole MLA,
Byron Biswas on Monday joined
the Trinamool Congress sur-
prising one and all.
THE MARCH DHAMAKA
@ SAGARDIGHI
Sagardighi loss was a big set-
back for the TMC, which also
revealed a slide in its hold over
Muslims in a constituency that
was considered its bastion. The
win was special for the belea-
guered Congress in West Bengal
and it was a huge morale boost-
er for veteran Congress leader,
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, as
Sagardighi falls in his strong-
hold of Murshidabad. On Mon-
day after Biswas quit the Con-
gress, Chowdhury accused Bis-
was of betraying the people who
voted for him. Accusing the
TMC of using unfair means to
woo Biswas, he said: “We will
choose a more honest candidate
in the future.”
Biswas was welcomed into
the TMC by the party’s national
general secretary Abhishek Ba-
nerjee, on the side lines of his
Jan Sanjog Yatra, at Ghatal in
West Midnapore.
FLASHBACK AND
‘EROSION’ OF MINORITY
VOTEBANK?
Congress’ Byron Biswas, backed
by the Left Front had defeated
TMC’s Debashis Banerjee, a dis-
tant relative of Mamata Baner-
jee, by a whopping 22,980 votes.
The BJP had fielded Dilip Saha.
With this win, Biswas had be-
come the only Congress MLA in
the Assembly
.
Both Mamata and nephew Ab-
hishek had campaigned in Sagar-
dighi. TMC sources had admitted
they were worried about the mi-
nority vote having shifted to the
Congress-CPI(M)alliancebecause
almost63%of Sagardighipopula-
tion is Muslim. Tribals constitute
another 10%-plus of the votes.
THE VOTE MATRIX
l In the 2021 Assembly elections,
TMC’s Subrata Saha had won by
more than 50% of the votes and a
huge margin of 50,000-plus votes.
Its vote share as per Thursday’s
results was down to 39%.
l In 2011, Saha had been the only
TMC winner from Murshidabad
district, long a bastion of the
Congress and specifically the
party’s West Bengal chief, Adhir
Ranjan Chowdhury. He had also
won the seat in 2016 and 2021.
l After his third win in 2021, he
(Saha) was made minister of
state. He, however, died of
a heart attack in December
2022 and hence the bypoll was
necessitated.
l The Congress’s win in
Sagardighi was very significant
as in 2021, it finished third here.
Apart from the minority vote,
the TMC was also worried as it
was sceptical about the women
voters who moved away despite
severalwomen-friendlyschemes
of the TMC government. Almost
60% of those who cast their
votes were women this time.

WHY
SAGARDIGHI
WAS BIG FOR
CONG AND
BAD NEWS
FOR TMC?
the 2021 As-
sembly election,
almost 90 per
cent of the minor-
ity vote had gone to the
TMC. However, the party
was wary about the loss of
some minority votes but
did not expect to lose the
Sagardighi seat.
Sagardighi with a 64 per
cent Muslim population in
the Murshidabad district of
central Bengal has been a
bastion of the TMC since
2011, with Subrata Saha
winning three times on a
trot.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha
election, the TMC secured
42 per cent of the polled
votes in this assembly seg-
ment, against BJP’s 23.4
per cent, Congress’s 22.7
per cent and CPM’s 6.8 per
cent. In the 2021 Assembly
election, Saha polled 51 per
cent, while the BJP’s share
stood at 24 per cent and
the Left-backed Congress
candidate secured only 19.5
per cent.
In this by-poll, the Con-
gress candidate won by a
big margin of 22,986 votes,
securing 47.35 per cent of
the polled votes. The TMC’s
vote share dipped to 34.94
and the BJP’s to 13.94 per
cent. The result reflects
TMC’s loss of support in
an area where Muslims
dominate the demography.
In 2021, the TMC swept all
such areas.
During 2019-2020,
issues like the National
Register of Citizens (NRC)
and the Citizenship Amend-
ment Act (CAA) helped con-
solidate Muslim votes in the
TMC’s favour. It looks like a
section of the Muslims has
started feeling disenchanted
with the TMC and getting
out of the fear of the BJP.
This is the first electoral
setback for the TMC since
returning to power with a
thumping majority in 2021
and political observers feel
that the victory is likely to
rejuvenate the Left-Con-
gress camp ahead of the
panchayat elections due in
a few months.
The panchayat elections
are likely to give a clearer
picture of the changing po-
litical equations, if any, espe-
cially if the state is bracing
for three-corner contests in
the coming elections.
IN
WHAT MAMATA
TOLD SONIA AFTER
KARNATAKA WIN
Days after the Congress’
landslide victory in Karna-
taka, West Bengal chief minister
and Trinamool Congress (TMC)
supremo Mamata Banerjee hinted
at supporting the Grand Old party
in states where it is prominent.
However, she also said Congress
should reciprocate the same at-
titude towards the TMC if it wants
her support. “Wherever Congress
is strong over its respective
states, they should fight and we
will support them. However, Con-
gress should also show similar
support to other political parties,”
she had said. “The policy cannot
go like TMC supporting you in
Karnataka and you go against me
in Bengal. If you want to achieve
something good, then you have
to sacrifice in certain areas,” she
further added.

2NDFRONT
POSTAL REG NO. JPC/004/2022-24
z According to you,
what has been Naren-
dra Modi’s biggest
contribution to the
nation as a Prime
Minister?
Dr Jagdeesh Chandra:
Narendra Modi’s big-
gest contribution has
been that he made
‘Bharat’ into ‘Bharat.’
He created an image of
a powerful nation
across the world, he re-
established the lost
glory of the position
of Prime Minister and
across the nation, as
far as good governance
is concerned, people
believe that a powerful
government is at helm.
If I have to say precise-
ly what he did in these
nine years, I can sum it
up in just two sentenc-
es i.e. ‘Navnirman’ in
nine years, and uplift-
ment of the poor in
these nine years. These
two sentences indicate
what he has done for
the nation and what
are his biggest contri-
butions. So overall, a
powerful ‘Bharat,’ a
governance that is not
riddled with corrup-
tion, a government
which is working for
the poor amid many
other things are PM
Modi’s contribution to
the nation, which will
be remembered for the
years to come.
z Considering PM
Modi’s achievements
over the past nine
years, do you think
this fight is not for
2024 rather for the
general elections in
2029?
Of course. As far as
the seat of power in
Delhi is concerned,
this is the reality be-
cause there is no other
option before the
people. There is no al-
ternative in front of
the people who could
prove himself, before
the people, to be a
better candidate than
Modi. That is almost
impossible. In fact,
not even 2029, I feel
that for the next ten or
fifteen years, there is
no option to Modi. So
we can safely say that
the fight is not for
2024, rather of 2029
and the election
battle of 2024 is merely
symbolic.
z Do you think there
has been a basic dif-
ference in the first
five years of Modi
Government and
these past four years
of Modi 2.0?
Basic difference is that
when he held the reins
of the government in
2014, he wants to bring
about radical changes.
So, he held brain-
storming sessions
with his ‘think- tanks’
and then he made up
his mind what he
wanted to do. So, in the
first five years, he
made up his mind on
the schemes and poli-
cies and their road
map. In the second ten-
ure, he has focussed on
quick execution of
those schemes. So in
the first tenure, he
brought clarity in vari-
ous schemes and now,
they are being imple-
mented at a great pace.
z So do you agree that
in these past nine
years ‘Brand India’
has been strengthened
across the globe?
Of course. The ‘Brand
India’ is immensely
strengthened across the
world. If we talk about
the nation, then Naren-
dra Modi is ‘Rashtra-
Nayak’. Even today
,
there are ten or twelve
crore individuals, who
are ready to even go any
extent for Modi. Talking
aboutforeignnations,he
has emerged as a ‘Global
Leader.’ As you saw dur-
ing PM’s visit of Papua
New Guinea that its PM
touched PM Modi’s feet
and the most powerful
man in the world, the US
President, is asking for
Modi’s autograph. From
top to bottom, it is Modi,
who rules the roost
that is because ‘Brand
Modi’ has become ex-
tremely strong, not only
in India, but in other na-
tions as well.
z Is it correct that PM
Modi has created new
constituencies and
new voters for himself
in these nine years?
He must not have
thought about it, but
such development has
indeed come to pass.
For example, one con-
stituency that has
come to life is of NRI
voters. Lakhs of Indi-
ans live abroad and for
the first time, I have
felt so, like recently in
Australia and last year
in America, the Indi-
ans living there have
re-established their
bond with the nation
because of Modi. What
ever happens in India,
these NRI are abreast
of all the develop-
ments. Those Indians
who have been living
abroad, they have be-
come Indians for the
first time. They have
been ‘Indianised’ for
the first time because
of Modi. So, there is an
constituency that Modi
has built, who may or
may not vote, but they
definitely play a huge
role in taking forward
the Brand Modi’s im-
age and projection.
Along with this, the
premiers of these na-
tions where these Indi-
ans vote, they are look-
ing towards Modi. So,
overall, this is a new
constituency. Secondly,
he has created another
constituency in ‘Modi-
Bhakts.’ I observe sev-
eral developments
where people say that
so and so is a ‘Modi-
Bhakt.’ This is a cate-
gory of voters. Third
constituency is that of
‘Direct beneficiaries,’
be it Ujjawala Scheme,
Pension Scheme or in
any other scheme,
these people number
in crores and PM’s ad-
visors have marked
them man to man and
thus, this is another
constituency of crores
of voters that has been
created. And now this
new Parliament that
has been erected, this
too has helped in creat-
ing a new constituency.
So, under Modi’s
watchful eyes, every-
day a new constituen-
cy is created or born.
z Do you agree that
along with being a
global leader
, PM
Modi has also become
a ‘Vishwa-Guru’?
Of course. It certainly
seems so. What entails
in being a ‘Vishwa-Gu-
ru?’ It means that all
nations look up to him
and accept his leader-
ship. Except China and
a small insignificant
nation like Pakistan, by
and large, majority of
the nations of the world
have accepted that he is
a ‘Vishwa Guru,’ either
he has become one or
will become in days to
come. In the next few
years, you will see that
the Bharat of yore,
which was always
called a ‘Vishwa Guru,’
you will see that Modi
himself will become
‘Vishwa Guru’ as there
is immense possibility
of this happening. And
when we say Modi as
Vishwa Guru in the
same breath as India, a
Vishwa Guru, that re-
flects the truth of our
times. Today, Modi’s
name, Modi’s personal-
ity, Modi’s aura, Modi’s
glamour, Modi’s thrill
has perhaps grown
even bigger than the na-
tion itself, it seems so.
z How do you rate PM
Modi as a Spiritual
leader and a teacher?
AsaPM,heisextremely
powerful and decisive.
Secondly
, he is spiritu-
ally inclined. He goes to
temples in Badrinath,
Kashi etc and the con-
centration through
which he engages in the
prayersandpuja,itsure-
ly appears that he is
heading towards becom-
inga‘SpiritualGuru.’As
suchnooneknowsabout
hismood.Attimes,what
happens is that a King
leaves the power and
goesawayandsoModiis
basically a person, who
loves the mountains and
more specifically
, he has
his faith in Lord Shiva
i.e. Badrinath and Ke-
darnath. If some day
, he
feels that he has done a
lot and he leaves every-
thing then it may be so.
For such a person, the
position of PM would
naturally become small
and thus, he is seen as a
‘Spiritual Guru’ and is
seen as moving towards
being a ‘Global Spiritual
Guru.’ Thirdly
, you
asked about him being a
teacher. You have seen
this in his ‘Mann Ki
Baat’ programme how
he teaches people and
how he interacts with
children.Helikesassoci-
ating with children and
that is him in the role of
a teacher. You can say
that all the genres of hu-
mankind that exist, are
present in Modi. He is
‘
All in one.’
z It is said that in
these past nine years,
PM Modi’s energy lev-
el has increased expo-
nentially. Do you
think so?
Of course. This is a
matter of investigation.
I think he sleeps for
threeormaxfourhours,
but during his sleep
time too, I guess issues
like nation, develop-
ment etc would be in his
mind. His aura radiates
energy
. During the new
Parliament function,
the manner in which he
carried and conducted
himself, it appeared
that this energy was ra-
diating through his be-
ing. Someone told me
that he as a being radi-
ates energy. In UP elec-
tion, he reached Delhi
from UP and then flew
to Ahmedabad without
any rest. When he re-
turned recently from
Australia, immediately
on arrival, he started
holding meetings and
undertook inaugura-
tions at various places.
He could have enjoyed
the festivities, but
rather he chose to
chair the meeting with
Chief Ministers and
that he did for a mara-
thon seven hours! So
his energy level surely
inspires. Also, it is the
God’s gift to him.
z Now that Modi Gov-
ernment is entering
its tenth year in pow-
er
, can we now ad-
dress the time as ‘Pre’
and ‘Post’ Modi era?
This is a brilliant ques-
tion.Don’tlookatitfrom
the angle of ‘Pre-Modi’
or ‘Post-Modi’ era. Rath-
erthesearetowseparate
aeonsfrom1947-2014and
from 2014 till today is the
secondera.Earlier,there
were no governments
that had complete
strength government
formationdependedona
coalition of various par-
ties. First time a govern-
ment has come to power,
which was extremely
fast, dynamic and would
enforce the decisions
properly having taken
them well within time.
When ever our history
would be written, this
would definitely be said
that prior to 2014 what
was the history of India
in various sectors, be it
politicaloreconomic,so-
cial etc what is the his-
tory after 2014.
z With PM Modi be-
coming the Chairman
of G-20, how much do
you think has India’s
honour increased
globally?
Our honour has defi-
nitely increased. Every-
one wants to become the
Chairman of G-20 and
even Manmohan Singh
tried his best to become
its Chairman. Appro-
priate ground work and
home work was done,
but it could not be a suc-
cess. In Indira Gandhi’s
tenure, international
conferences used to hap-
pen but after 1989, these
programmes actually
dried up for about 34
years and now Modi has
revived this. Moreover,
Chairman is a ceremo-
nial post and they are,
generally, those who
preside over meetings
etc, but Modi is differ-
ent as he is an ‘Active
Operational Chairman’
of G- 20. People are com-
ing over from across the
world look the honour
 respect being accord-
ed to these delegates by
Modi Government.
They will remember
this honour and respect
accorded to them
throughout their lives.
And just imagine what
an achievement it is
that he managed to get
this G-20 programme
done in Kashmir.

Moon-inspired fashion has bewitched designers
and fashion enthusiasts,infusing the industry
with a sense of celestial wonder.City First brings
to you fashion from the enchanting voyage
of the celestial empire!
n a world where fashion
is constantly evolving, de-
signers often seek inspi-
ration from unconven-
tional sources. Among
the countless celestial
bodies that have captured
our collective imagination, the
moon holds a special place. Its
ethereal beauty
, mystery
, and
timeless appeal have ignited a cos-
mic trend in the fashion industry
,
resulting in a wave of moon-in-
spired fashion. From celestial pat-
terns and lunar motifs to metallic
hues and shimmering textures,
this article delves into the fasci-
nating realm of lunar chic and
how it has enchanted designers
and fashion enthusiasts alike.
The moon, with its radiant glow
and soft luminescence, has been
interpreted in fashion through
delicate fabrics and romantic
silhouettes. Flowing chiffon
gowns evoke the moon’s gen-
tle glow, while iridescent se-
quins capture its radiant
beauty
. From asymmetrical
draping to celestial beading,
moonlit elegance has become a
sought-after aesthetic on red car-
pets and runways worldwide.
These days, stars, crescent moons
and planetary symbols can be
found on dresses, blouses, scarves,
and even shoes. Such designs in-
fuse outfits with an otherworldly
allure, capturing the magic of the
night sky
. For those seeking to
make a bold statement, designers
have harnessed the moon’s reflec-
tive properties and translated
them into metallic fabrics and
shimmering textures. Dresses
adorned with silver sequins emu-
late the moon’s surface, while me-
tallic accessories and futuristic
embellishments add a touch of
galactic glamour.
Not only this, the moon’s colour
palette, consisting of cool blues,
deep greys and luminous whites
has found its way into fashion.
Fashion houses have utilized these
hues to create ensembles that cap-
ture the essence of the moon. Sil-
very fabrics and metallic finishes
create an otherworld-
ly sheen, while
shades of mid-
night blue evoke
the beauty of
the night sky
.

Addressing the

only two ways.
Make life powerful
by increasing under-

carrying it in some

. No pathy or doc-

Gargi Maa said that
if we want happiness

to start from the body

. The meaning
of rules is what

First India 31052023.pdf

  • 1. THE RAY OF HOPE! PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI ADITI NAGAR With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in Ajmer on Wednesday, the ‘formal countdown’ to the 2023 Ra- jasthan Assembly election would be- gin. Although PM Modi has been fre- quenting Rajasthan over the past few months, having visited Dausa, Abu Road, Banswara, and Bhilwara but it is PM’s this visit to Ajmer and Pushkar, that will mark a watershed moment for the future of State’s polity . For BJP, PM Modi has been the defin- ing leader whose persona and personal- ity is acceptable and loved by all. His oratory skills and his communication power make him a leader that defies the odds and brings momentum to his par- ty . Coupled with the on-ground impact of Modi’s schemes and policies, it would not be wrong to say that not just his personality, but even the Pradhan- Sevak’s ‘service delivery’ to the masses is beyond comprehension, a feat hith- erto unattainable for his opponents! Thus, in PM Modi’s visit, State BJP hopes to find a ‘revival’ against the Ra- jasthan Congress, more so because of what has happened in Karnataka, may happen in Rajasthan as well, i.e. a like- ly Muslim-vote polarisation on Karna- taka pattern and mainly because of Ashok Gehlot’s massive freebies cam- paign like Old Pension Scheme, CM Chiranjeevi Health Scheme where health insurance upto 25 lakh is being provided, free electricity scheme upto a limit to farmers and households along with free and subsidised gas cyl- inders. Modi’s visit to Rajasthan could also be viewed through the lense of not one but two more states, i.e. Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh as well, which also go to poll about the same time as Rajasthan. The BJP, which is battling a defeat in Karnataka, has pinned all its hopes to the charismatic leader Modi, as traditionally, BJP has a better hold in the Hindi-speaking states than southern-states. Thus, bringing its government in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and repeating the cur- rent Shivraj government in Madhya Pradesh is a paramount priority for Modi and BJP alike for which Amit Shah’s strategy is also a top priori- ty, more so because of the absence of Vasundhara factor. And Rajasthan, which has given all 25 MPs to BJP, both sides when Modi contested for the Premiership of the na- tion, has always loved the charismatic leader, simply because in Rajasthan’s stark landscape, people have built their own unique culture that celebrates life, which, in a way, has been the life story of Narendra Modi — the leader, as well. Therefore, now eagerly awaiting the arrival of the most influential and popular politician of our times who has acquired the status of a global leader, Rajasthan beckons saying, ‘Padharo Mhare Des’! In absence of Vasundhara factor, a likely Muslim- vote polarisation on Karnataka pattern and mainly because of Ashok Gehlot’s massive freebies campaign, a divided saffron party in Rajasthan pins its hopes on a game-changer charismatic Prime Minister Narendra Modi www.firstindia.co.in I https://firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia 31 MAY, 2023 WEDNESDAY JAIPUR RNI NUMBER RAJENG/2019/77764 Vol 4 l Issue No. 353 Pages 12 l `3.00 WARM WELCOME TO PM IN AJMER

Editor-In-Chief: Dr Jagdeesh Chandra Editor: Anita Hada Sangwan responsible for selection of news under the PRB Act Congratulations to the countrymen on the completion of nine successful years of the government running under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi with the resolution of service, good governance and poor welfare. In these nine years, where the prestige of India has increased in the whole world, the country is also at a new height from the economic point of view. #9YearsOfSeva Rajnath Singh @rajnathsingh Saddened by the passing away of Lok Sabha MP from Chandrapur, Shri Balubhau Narayanrao Dhanorkar Ji. He will be remembered for his contribution to public service and empowering the poor. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti. Narendra Modi @narendramodi SPIRITUAL SPEAK Amongst thousands of persons, hardly one strives for perfection; and amongst those who have achieved perfection, hardly one knows me in truth. —Bhagavad Gita TOP TWEETS hat the lone Congress MLA in West Bengal Byron Biswas has deserted the grand old party and joined the TMC, is a piece of news which any news agency would be putting out to you. However, as I have always in- sisted on analysing news and go- ing behind the news to find the news, in this article we shall ex- amine this piece of news micro- scopically to find out the magni- tude of the lone MLA’s exit from the party which, in March 2023, created news and ripples across the political circles of the state and how closely political ana- lysts watched the developments when he won the Sagardighi by- poll in West Bengal by upsetting the mighty TMC. Three months after he had won on a Congress ticket from the crucial Sagardighi Assem- bly seat in a bypoll, and by sav- ing the grace for Congress by giving the party its sole MLA, Byron Biswas on Monday joined the Trinamool Congress sur- prising one and all. THE MARCH DHAMAKA @ SAGARDIGHI Sagardighi loss was a big set- back for the TMC, which also revealed a slide in its hold over Muslims in a constituency that was considered its bastion. The win was special for the belea- guered Congress in West Bengal and it was a huge morale boost- er for veteran Congress leader, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, as Sagardighi falls in his strong- hold of Murshidabad. On Mon- day after Biswas quit the Con- gress, Chowdhury accused Bis- was of betraying the people who voted for him. Accusing the TMC of using unfair means to woo Biswas, he said: “We will choose a more honest candidate in the future.” Biswas was welcomed into the TMC by the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Ba- nerjee, on the side lines of his Jan Sanjog Yatra, at Ghatal in West Midnapore. FLASHBACK AND ‘EROSION’ OF MINORITY VOTEBANK? Congress’ Byron Biswas, backed by the Left Front had defeated TMC’s Debashis Banerjee, a dis- tant relative of Mamata Baner- jee, by a whopping 22,980 votes. The BJP had fielded Dilip Saha. With this win, Biswas had be- come the only Congress MLA in the Assembly . Both Mamata and nephew Ab- hishek had campaigned in Sagar- dighi. TMC sources had admitted they were worried about the mi- nority vote having shifted to the Congress-CPI(M)alliancebecause almost63%of Sagardighipopula- tion is Muslim. Tribals constitute another 10%-plus of the votes. THE VOTE MATRIX l In the 2021 Assembly elections, TMC’s Subrata Saha had won by more than 50% of the votes and a huge margin of 50,000-plus votes. Its vote share as per Thursday’s results was down to 39%. l In 2011, Saha had been the only TMC winner from Murshidabad district, long a bastion of the Congress and specifically the party’s West Bengal chief, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. He had also won the seat in 2016 and 2021. l After his third win in 2021, he (Saha) was made minister of state. He, however, died of a heart attack in December 2022 and hence the bypoll was necessitated. l The Congress’s win in Sagardighi was very significant as in 2021, it finished third here. Apart from the minority vote, the TMC was also worried as it was sceptical about the women voters who moved away despite severalwomen-friendlyschemes of the TMC government. Almost 60% of those who cast their votes were women this time. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL Congress’ Byron Biswas, backed by the Left Front had defeated TMC’s Debashis Banerjee, a distant relative of Mamata Banerjee, by a whopping 22,980 votes. The BJP had fielded Dilip Saha. With this win, Biswas had become the only Congress MLA in the Assembly. Both Mamata and nephew Abhishek had campaigned in Sagardighi. TMC sources had admitted they were worried about the minority vote having shifted to the Congress- CPI(M) alliance because almost 63% of Sagardighi population is Muslim. Tribals constitute another 10%-plus of the votes. T POST-KARNATAKA POLLS Games netas play: TMC lauds Sonia, Cong ‘uploads’ lone MLA to TMC? FIRST INDIA DIGS DEEPER TO SEE WHAT WILL BE THE IMPACT FOR THE GRAND OLD PARTY AFTER THEIR LONE MLA QUITS HIGH-OCTANE SAGARDIGHI SEAT ROBIN ROY The writer is Senior Journalist and former Managing Editor, First India WHY SAGARDIGHI WAS BIG FOR CONG AND BAD NEWS FOR TMC? the 2021 As- sembly election, almost 90 per cent of the minor- ity vote had gone to the TMC. However, the party was wary about the loss of some minority votes but did not expect to lose the Sagardighi seat. Sagardighi with a 64 per cent Muslim population in the Murshidabad district of central Bengal has been a bastion of the TMC since 2011, with Subrata Saha winning three times on a trot. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the TMC secured 42 per cent of the polled votes in this assembly seg- ment, against BJP’s 23.4 per cent, Congress’s 22.7 per cent and CPM’s 6.8 per cent. In the 2021 Assembly election, Saha polled 51 per cent, while the BJP’s share stood at 24 per cent and the Left-backed Congress candidate secured only 19.5 per cent. In this by-poll, the Con- gress candidate won by a big margin of 22,986 votes, securing 47.35 per cent of the polled votes. The TMC’s vote share dipped to 34.94 and the BJP’s to 13.94 per cent. The result reflects TMC’s loss of support in an area where Muslims dominate the demography. In 2021, the TMC swept all such areas. During 2019-2020, issues like the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amend- ment Act (CAA) helped con- solidate Muslim votes in the TMC’s favour. It looks like a section of the Muslims has started feeling disenchanted with the TMC and getting out of the fear of the BJP. This is the first electoral setback for the TMC since returning to power with a thumping majority in 2021 and political observers feel that the victory is likely to rejuvenate the Left-Con- gress camp ahead of the panchayat elections due in a few months. The panchayat elections are likely to give a clearer picture of the changing po- litical equations, if any, espe- cially if the state is bracing for three-corner contests in the coming elections. IN WHAT MAMATA TOLD SONIA AFTER KARNATAKA WIN Days after the Congress’ landslide victory in Karna- taka, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee hinted at supporting the Grand Old party in states where it is prominent. However, she also said Congress should reciprocate the same at- titude towards the TMC if it wants her support. “Wherever Congress is strong over its respective states, they should fight and we will support them. However, Con- gress should also show similar support to other political parties,” she had said. “The policy cannot go like TMC supporting you in Karnataka and you go against me in Bengal. If you want to achieve something good, then you have to sacrifice in certain areas,” she further added.

  • 9. A truly intelligent person welcomes all opposing viewpoints and the people, who put them forth. —Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO Editor-in-Chief, First India JAIPUR | WEDNESDAY, MAY 31, 2023 www.firstindia.co.in I https://firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia 08 2NDFRONT POSTAL REG NO. JPC/004/2022-24 z According to you, what has been Naren- dra Modi’s biggest contribution to the nation as a Prime Minister? Dr Jagdeesh Chandra: Narendra Modi’s big- gest contribution has been that he made ‘Bharat’ into ‘Bharat.’ He created an image of a powerful nation across the world, he re- established the lost glory of the position of Prime Minister and across the nation, as far as good governance is concerned, people believe that a powerful government is at helm. If I have to say precise- ly what he did in these nine years, I can sum it up in just two sentenc- es i.e. ‘Navnirman’ in nine years, and uplift- ment of the poor in these nine years. These two sentences indicate what he has done for the nation and what are his biggest contri- butions. So overall, a powerful ‘Bharat,’ a governance that is not riddled with corrup- tion, a government which is working for the poor amid many other things are PM Modi’s contribution to the nation, which will be remembered for the years to come. z Considering PM Modi’s achievements over the past nine years, do you think this fight is not for 2024 rather for the general elections in 2029? Of course. As far as the seat of power in Delhi is concerned, this is the reality be- cause there is no other option before the people. There is no al- ternative in front of the people who could prove himself, before the people, to be a better candidate than Modi. That is almost impossible. In fact, not even 2029, I feel that for the next ten or fifteen years, there is no option to Modi. So we can safely say that the fight is not for 2024, rather of 2029 and the election battle of 2024 is merely symbolic. z Do you think there has been a basic dif- ference in the first five years of Modi Government and these past four years of Modi 2.0? Basic difference is that when he held the reins of the government in 2014, he wants to bring about radical changes. So, he held brain- storming sessions with his ‘think- tanks’ and then he made up his mind what he wanted to do. So, in the first five years, he made up his mind on the schemes and poli- cies and their road map. In the second ten- ure, he has focussed on quick execution of those schemes. So in the first tenure, he brought clarity in vari- ous schemes and now, they are being imple- mented at a great pace. z So do you agree that in these past nine years ‘Brand India’ has been strengthened across the globe? Of course. The ‘Brand India’ is immensely strengthened across the world. If we talk about the nation, then Naren- dra Modi is ‘Rashtra- Nayak’. Even today , there are ten or twelve crore individuals, who are ready to even go any extent for Modi. Talking aboutforeignnations,he has emerged as a ‘Global Leader.’ As you saw dur- ing PM’s visit of Papua New Guinea that its PM touched PM Modi’s feet and the most powerful man in the world, the US President, is asking for Modi’s autograph. From top to bottom, it is Modi, who rules the roost that is because ‘Brand Modi’ has become ex- tremely strong, not only in India, but in other na- tions as well. z Is it correct that PM Modi has created new constituencies and new voters for himself in these nine years? He must not have thought about it, but such development has indeed come to pass. For example, one con- stituency that has come to life is of NRI voters. Lakhs of Indi- ans live abroad and for the first time, I have felt so, like recently in Australia and last year in America, the Indi- ans living there have re-established their bond with the nation because of Modi. What ever happens in India, these NRI are abreast of all the develop- ments. Those Indians who have been living abroad, they have be- come Indians for the first time. They have been ‘Indianised’ for the first time because of Modi. So, there is an constituency that Modi has built, who may or may not vote, but they definitely play a huge role in taking forward the Brand Modi’s im- age and projection. Along with this, the premiers of these na- tions where these Indi- ans vote, they are look- ing towards Modi. So, overall, this is a new constituency. Secondly, he has created another constituency in ‘Modi- Bhakts.’ I observe sev- eral developments where people say that so and so is a ‘Modi- Bhakt.’ This is a cate- gory of voters. Third constituency is that of ‘Direct beneficiaries,’ be it Ujjawala Scheme, Pension Scheme or in any other scheme, these people number in crores and PM’s ad- visors have marked them man to man and thus, this is another constituency of crores of voters that has been created. And now this new Parliament that has been erected, this too has helped in creat- ing a new constituency. So, under Modi’s watchful eyes, every- day a new constituen- cy is created or born. z Do you agree that along with being a global leader , PM Modi has also become a ‘Vishwa-Guru’? Of course. It certainly seems so. What entails in being a ‘Vishwa-Gu- ru?’ It means that all nations look up to him and accept his leader- ship. Except China and a small insignificant nation like Pakistan, by and large, majority of the nations of the world have accepted that he is a ‘Vishwa Guru,’ either he has become one or will become in days to come. In the next few years, you will see that the Bharat of yore, which was always called a ‘Vishwa Guru,’ you will see that Modi himself will become ‘Vishwa Guru’ as there is immense possibility of this happening. And when we say Modi as Vishwa Guru in the same breath as India, a Vishwa Guru, that re- flects the truth of our times. Today, Modi’s name, Modi’s personal- ity, Modi’s aura, Modi’s glamour, Modi’s thrill has perhaps grown even bigger than the na- tion itself, it seems so. z How do you rate PM Modi as a Spiritual leader and a teacher? AsaPM,heisextremely powerful and decisive. Secondly , he is spiritu- ally inclined. He goes to temples in Badrinath, Kashi etc and the con- centration through which he engages in the prayersandpuja,itsure- ly appears that he is heading towards becom- inga‘SpiritualGuru.’As suchnooneknowsabout hismood.Attimes, what happens is that a King leaves the power and goesawayandsoModiis basically a person, who loves the mountains and more specifically , he has his faith in Lord Shiva i.e. Badrinath and Ke- darnath. If some day , he feels that he has done a lot and he leaves every- thing then it may be so. For such a person, the position of PM would naturally become small and thus, he is seen as a ‘Spiritual Guru’ and is seen as moving towards being a ‘Global Spiritual Guru.’ Thirdly , you asked about him being a teacher. You have seen this in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme how he teaches people and how he interacts with children.Helikesassoci- ating with children and that is him in the role of a teacher. You can say that all the genres of hu- mankind that exist, are present in Modi. He is ‘ All in one.’ z It is said that in these past nine years, PM Modi’s energy lev- el has increased expo- nentially. Do you think so? Of course. This is a matter of investigation. I think he sleeps for threeormaxfourhours, but during his sleep time too, I guess issues like nation, develop- ment etc would be in his mind. His aura radiates energy . During the new Parliament function, the manner in which he carried and conducted himself, it appeared that this energy was ra- diating through his be- ing. Someone told me that he as a being radi- ates energy. In UP elec- tion, he reached Delhi from UP and then flew to Ahmedabad without any rest. When he re- turned recently from Australia, immediately on arrival, he started holding meetings and undertook inaugura- tions at various places. He could have enjoyed the festivities, but rather he chose to chair the meeting with Chief Ministers and that he did for a mara- thon seven hours! So his energy level surely inspires. Also, it is the God’s gift to him. z Now that Modi Gov- ernment is entering its tenth year in pow- er , can we now ad- dress the time as ‘Pre’ and ‘Post’ Modi era? This is a brilliant ques- tion.Don’tlookatitfrom the angle of ‘Pre-Modi’ or ‘Post-Modi’ era. Rath- erthesearetowseparate aeonsfrom1947-2014and from 2014 till today is the secondera.Earlier, there were no governments that had complete strength government formationdependedona coalition of various par- ties. First time a govern- ment has come to power, which was extremely fast, dynamic and would enforce the decisions properly having taken them well within time. When ever our history would be written, this would definitely be said that prior to 2014 what was the history of India in various sectors, be it politicaloreconomic,so- cial etc what is the his- tory after 2014. z With PM Modi be- coming the Chairman of G-20, how much do you think has India’s honour increased globally? Our honour has defi- nitely increased. Every- one wants to become the Chairman of G-20 and even Manmohan Singh tried his best to become its Chairman. Appro- priate ground work and home work was done, but it could not be a suc- cess. In Indira Gandhi’s tenure, international conferences used to hap- pen but after 1989, these programmes actually dried up for about 34 years and now Modi has revived this. Moreover, Chairman is a ceremo- nial post and they are, generally, those who preside over meetings etc, but Modi is differ- ent as he is an ‘Active Operational Chairman’ of G- 20. People are com- ing over from across the world look the honour respect being accord- ed to these delegates by Modi Government. They will remember this honour and respect accorded to them throughout their lives. And just imagine what an achievement it is that he managed to get this G-20 programme done in Kashmir. Modi has made ‘Brand India’ one of the world’s most powerful brands: Dr Jagdeesh Chandra During the show #JConModi9Years trended top All-India on Twitter Dr Jagdeesh Chandra in conversation with Sana Yadav, Guneet Kaur Seth, Amit Mishra, Shikha Thakur and Poornima Mishra during The JC Show.
