Mumbai: “We have not

Chief Minister Eknath
Shinde said on Sunday
He was addressing
the press at the Sahy-

eve of the budget ses-
sion.
CM Shinde slammed
Ajit Pawar as being
“mentally unwell” after
the latter raised objec-
tions to a food bill of
“Rs2.38 crore” at the
CM’s official bungalow
Varsha Bungalow.
“It is our culture to
give tea and water to
any visitor who comes
to Varsha Bungalow,”
he said. On the allega-
tion of law and order
and action being taken
against the leaders of
the opposition, Shinde
said that false action is
never being taken
against anyone in this
government.
Targetting the erst-
while Maha Vikas
Aghadi government, he
added: “The people of
the state have seen the

er in the previous MVA
government. Apart
from the action taken
against Union Minister

MP Navneet Rana and
Ketki Chitale, the peo-
ple of the state and the

Meanwhile, Deputy
Chief Minister Deven-
dra Fadnavis stressed
the importance of “pos-
itive issues” being dis-
cussed in the House.
“Efforts will be made to
get the Lokayukta Bill
passed in this session
itself. I appeal to the op-
position that all parties
should support the im-
plementation of the Lo-

schemes. Many projects
have been started. The
work on the projects in

hosted. We understand
that, but the majority is
important in a democ-
racy and our govern-
ment is the government

said.

Govt spending extravagantly,

First India Bureau
Mumbai: Senior Na-

the Eknath Shinde-led

spending money in an
“extravagant” manner
while ignoring the key
issues being faced by
common people and
farmers.
The Leader of Oppo-
sition in the Legislative

the media at Vidhan

Shinde hosted a tea par-
ty at the Sahyadri Guest
House ahead of the

begins on Monday

“The state govern-

solving the woes of the
common man. We have
decided to boycott the
invitation for high tea.
Instead, we will meet

and share our concerns
with him,” the former
deputy chief minister
said.
“None of the aid an-
nounced by the state
government in the past
few months, has
reached the affected
people or intended
beneficiaries of
schemes. I have no-
ticed this during my
recent visits to differ-
ent places across Ma-

Inflation is going up,
due to which the cost of
production has in-
creased for farmers.
However, the agricul-
tural produce is not get-
ting a good price in the
market, Pawar said.
He announced that
the opposition parties
were boycotting the

government on the eve
of the session.
Meanwhile, Leader
of Opposition in the
Legislative Council
Ambadas Danve, who
belongs to the Shiv Sena

the issue of the change
in name of Aurangabad
and Osmanabad. “The

The Union govern-

changed, but the state
has not done that,” he
said.

‘Versova-Madh bridge will
destroy locals’ livelihoods’
First India Bureau
Mumbai: Activistshave
written to Chief Minis-

posing the construction
of a bridge connecting
VersovaandMadhciting
harm to livelihoods of
local residents. The dis-
sent memo comes after
theMaharashtraCoastal
Zone Management Au-
thority (MCZMA) gave
clearance to the project.
In the letter, activists
Godfrey Pimenta and
Nicholas Almeida have
claimed that the project
willdestroythetranquil-
ity of the sparsely popu-
lated Madh Island.
Pimenta, who is one
of the trustees of the
NGO Watchdog Founda-
tion, also said that the
proposed construction
of the bridge would in-
crease the population in
the region to 10 lakh in a
few years.
The letter has also
been sent to Deputy
Chief Minister Deven-
dra Fadnavis, Chief Sec-
retary of Maharashtra,
Urban Development De-
partment (UDD) Manu
Kumar Srivastava and
the Brihanmumbai Mu-
nicipal Corporation
(BMC) Administrator
Iqbal Singh Chahal.
“The area commands
a high premium due to
proximity to the sea...
the developers’ greed is
leadingtoinfrastructure
boom,” the letter stated.
The activists also
claimed that the bridge
would rob the locals of
their fishing activities.
“The existing ferry ser-
vice would be rendered
non-operational there-
by leading to loss of em-
ployment. We, there-
fore, demand that the
Mumbai Development

posed affordable homes
in the Madh region
should be exclusively
reserved only and only

Fishing activities on Madh Island will be disrupted, say activists.

Mumbai: A city-based

rized a ‘living will’ and
put it on social media in
a bid to inspire others to
do the same.
Dr Nikhil Datar’s will

ing should be withheld
or discontinued if the

On his decision, Dr
Datar said, “The advo-
cate was surprised to
hearIwantedtonotarize
a living will. Many are
still unaware of it.” He
also sent a copy to the
municipal commission-
er. “I wanted to ensure
that others too followed
suit and the ‘movement’
to seek dignified death
gathers momentum,” he
added. Backing up his
decision, Dr Datar said.
“Dying has become
difficult, to some extent,
due to progress in medi-
cal science. However, if I
am diagnosed with a dis-
ease that causes severe
impairment of physical
and mental functions
such as dementia, I
wouldn’t like to undergo

“Living will is about

also said.
32 trafficked children
rescued in two months
First India Bureau
Mumbai: The Special
Juvenile Protection
Unit (SJPU) of the
Mumbai Police has res-
cued 32 minor children
who were trafficked
from other states, in-
cluding six from Nepal
over the past two
months, an oficial said.
During this time, SJ-
PU--which operates un-
der the Crime Branch--
has also arrested 16
people for their alleged
involvement in traffick-
ing, with nine FIRs be-
ing registered at vari-
ous police stations in
Mumbai. The police
said the children were
trafficked for cheap la-
bour work or prostitu-
tion, mostly without
their parents’ knowl-
edge.
“Every child has a
different story when it
comes to trafficking. In
some cases, they are
kidnapped by agents.
There are also times
when the children do
not have guardians or
parents, so these agents
pick them up under the
guise of getting them
jobs for money and
shelter. We have also
seen cases where chil-
dren are sold by the par-
ents owing to poor fi-
nancial conditions,”
the Free Press Journal
quoted a senior official
as saying.
Most of the rescued
children were found to
be working in small-
scale industries in are-
as such as Agripada,
Govandi, Mankhurd,
Nagpada, Oshiwara,
Saki Naka, Shivaji Na-
gar and Worli. In other
cases, they were found
to be washing utensils,
cleaning the tables,
kitchen, etc., in small
hotels, without any pro-
tection, proper wages
or break hours, the FPJ
report stated, adding
that the rescued chil-
dren are usually sent to
children’s homes in
Dongri and Mankhurd,
after coordinating with
the Child Welfare Com-
mission. Children old
enough to share their
parents’ identities were
reunited with their
families, officials said.

Test kit by IITB alumni ‘checks’ health in 30 seconds
First India Bureau
Nagpur: Three alumni
of the Indian Institute
of Technology Bombay
(IIT-B) have come up
with a smartphone-
based health test kit that
uses urine samples to
check for health issues.
Some public health
centres (PHCs) in Na-
shik district have been
using these kits for
health tests, said a Zilla
Parishad official.
As part of the test, a
person has to dip a card
(part of the test kit) in
urine for a second, click
a photo of it on a phone
using the ‘Neodocs’ app.
“The photo gets up-
loaded on our cloud
server, where an algo-
rithm uses computer
vision to scan the card
and gives results with-
in 30 seconds,” claims
Manasvi Shah, the
firm’s strategic part-
nerships manager.
The start-up, found-
ed by Anurag Meena,
Nikunj Malpani and
Pratik Lodha, present-
ed the urine test kit
during an exhibition
at the recently held In-
dian Science Congress
in Nagpur.
Malpani said they re-
alized the importance
of the quantification of
health and the value of
diagnostics during the
pandemic-induced lock-
down. These kits will
help bring healthcare to
every doorstep and re-
duce the overall cost for
testing significantly
Meena said.
According to Lodha,
they are currently
working on research-
ing and developing in-
stant test kits for vari-
ous bio-fluids such as
blood, vaginal dis-
charge and semen.
They began their ven-
ture with five basic in-
stant urine test kits ca-
tering to their custom-
ers in a personalized
manner, Nikunj said.
Apart from the well-
ness kit, the company
also makes test kits for
chronic kidney disease
and age-related issues.
There is also a mater-
nity care kit, which al-
lows women to screen
for even the slightest
risk factors throughout
pregnancy, he said.

Chief Minister
Arvind Kejriwal,
Deputy Chief Minister Manish
Sisodia has been arrested on al-
leged charges of corruption in
liquor policy. The arrest was
made by the CBI after several
hours of interrogation. In an
speech earlier, Sisodia asked Ke-
jriwal to keep fighting for the
people as Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi is scared of only one
party which is AAP. Sisodia is
the second high-profile AAP
minister after Satyender Jain to
be arrested by the CBI.
Sisodia’s arrest will leave
Arvind Kejriwal in a spot as the
former has been his trusted lieu-
tenant. He is in charge of 18 de-
partments, a crucial fact when
the party’s Budget Session is due
to be tabled in March. The arrest
is clearly aimed to weaken the
AAP which defeated the BJP in
AssemblyandMCDelections.As
Sisodia is also alleged to be in-
volved in collection of political
intelligence about AAP’s rivals,
his road ahead is tough.
I
onia Gandhi’s
statement at the
Congress plenary
that “her innings
could conclude
with Bharat Jodo Yatra” in
Raipur on Saturday has set
off speculation about her re-
tirement from active politics.
The Congress party’s clarifi-
cation that what she meant
was her tenure as party pres-
ident was not of much help
in the context of the tenor of
her speech. Sonia said she
had the honour of taking
over as party president in
1998 and “over these 25 years”
the “support, goodwill and
understanding of each one
of you and all the Congress
party workers throughout
the country have given us
strength. Our victories in
2004 and 2009 along with the
able leadership of Manmo-
han Singhji gave me personal
satisfaction, but what grati-
fies me most is that my in-
nings could conclude with
Bharat Jodo Yatra”.
Kumari Selja, a senior
leader, said Sonia spoke in
the context of her tenure as
party president. Another
party member Alka Lamba
said she was able to speak
with Sonia on this, who told
her that “she has never re-
tired, nor she will do so”. The
party may have played down
any talk of Sonia retiring
from politics but the refer-
ence to her statement coin-
ciding with Bharat Jodo
Yatra suggests that she is not
giving up her faith in her son
Rahul Gandhi. One must also
not forget that she stepped
down as party president in
October 2022, when Mallikar-
jun Kharge was elected party
chief. Party may have down-
played the import of her
statement as that would have
again triggered pro and anti-
Rahul faction war within.

S
atural calamities are inevita-
ble, and at times they show-
case mother nature’s fury
side. From massive earth-
quakes that rocked Turkey
and Syria to the devastating
forest fires that ravaged
Chile and flash floods in the
Southern Hemisphere, Feb-
ruary has been a month of
deadly natural calamities.
During any calamities,
where we all return to our ba-
sics, i.e ‘humanity’ irrespec-
tive of class, creed, religion,
gender,socioeconomicquo,or
any other parameter of per-
petual social differences that
we all sadly follow, knowingly
or unknowingly
. While calam-
ities are destructive and tax-
ing, all they occasionally do to
us - is knock our conscience.
And at this juncture, a mili-
tary drill comes to the fore is
– HADR (Humanitarian As-
sistance Disaster Relief)
It is when we have seen the
world to stand – secular in all
truthfulness. Each time
HADR support is extended
for any victim nation, it is
delivered through the Armed
Forces being functional on-
ground, reverberating to
their call of duty. Be it the
combat ready, Army – an ag-
ile Air Force, the silent and
cohesive Navy
, or any special-
ized task force like – NDRF.
All stand one, with a common
objective to their super vigi-
lant senses, i.e, to appease
humanity and save lives.
Recently, HADR was ex-
tended to the quake-hit na-
tions of Syria and Turkiye.
Union Ministry of Health
and Family Welfare, Govern-
ment of India, was instru-
mental in sending the prompt
HADR for both the victim na-
tions. India has aided the vic-
tim countries in the spirit of
its age-old tradition of –
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.”
India has provided life-
saving emergency medicines,
protective items, medical
equipment, critical care
drugs, etc, as part of India’s
HADR plan, calling it – Op-
eration Dost this time.
On 6th February 2023,
when two powerful earth-
quakes hit Syria and Turkey,
three truckloads of relief
materials were mobilized at
Hindon airbase consisting of
life-saving emergency medi-
cines and protective items
within 12 hours. Trucks
started reaching by 10:00 am
on 7th Feb, 2023, and handing
over of the relief items to the
Indian Air Force (IAF) began
by 04:00 pm. The last truck-
load reached by 09:30 pm, and
the flight departed to Syria
with emergency relief mate-
rial on the same day by 10:00
pm for the relief operation.
The consignment consist-
ed of 5,945-ton emergency
relief material, including 27
life-saving medicines, two
kinds of protective items,
and three categories of criti-
cal care equipment, valued at
approximately `2 crore. On
10th February 2023, addition-
al relief materials were ar-
ranged for Turkiye and Syr-
ia. The consignment for Syr-
ia consisted of 72 critical
care drugs, consumables, and
protective items of 7.3 tons,
valued at `1.4 crore. Relief
materials sent for Turkiye
included 14 types of medical
and critical care equipment
valued at `4 crore.
It is learned that the medi-
cal corps of our Indian Army
,
with their Field Hospital,
treated over 3,600 earthquake
victims in Hatya Province of
Turkiye. Furthermore, the
Indian disaster relief team,
comprising 99 personnel of
the Indian Army Field Hospi-
tal and National Disaster Re-
sponse Force (NDRF) re-
turned to India on February
20, 2023, after putting in a
stupendous effort to provide
medical relief to disaster vic-
tims in Hatya Province of
Turkey hit by the earth-
quake. The effort has been
applauded both at the Nation-
al and International levels.
The Indian Army Field Hos-
pital has treated 3604 casual-
ties, provided emergency
medical care, and performed
04 x significant surgeries, 63
x minor surgeries, 343 minor
procedures, including 87 x
POP applications for fixing
fractures.
TheIndianArmyFieldHos-
pital comprising of 99 person-
nel,includingvariousSpecial-
ist Medical Officers and Para-
medics, established their Hos-
pital at Iskenderun, Hatay
Province, Turkey on 08 Feb
2023, which included a fully
functional OT and Trauma
Care Centre. The Specialists
haveMedical,Surgical,Anaes-
thetists, Orthopaedicians,
Maxillofacial surgeons, and
CommunityMedicinespecial-
ists to assist earthquake vic-
tims. Besides this, a Lady
Medical Officer has also been
sent to render medical care to
female patients/casualties.
In addition, the Indian
Army Field Hospital provid-
ed Dental treatment to 242
patients, carrying out 283 pre-
cautionary X-rays on trauma
victims. 14 x patients were
admitted, and 97 x patients
were detained and treated.
1159 Lab investigations were
carried out on the cases re-
ported for treatment. Indian
Army has replenished the
Field Hospital through Medi-
cal and Surgical bricks and
Orthopaedic equipment.
On the administrative
front, the team had also set
up a reception desk for re-
ceiving donations and dis-
tributing them to the needy.
Later, Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi interacted with and
lauded the National Disaster
Response Force members, In-
dian Army, and Indian Air
Force, who were deployed on
Operation Dost on Monday,
February 20, 2023.

‘DIGITAL ECONOMY CAN
CONTRIBUTE 25% GDP’
New Delhi (PTI): Noted
banker KV Kamath, who
now chairs the National
Bank for Financing Infra-
structure and Development
(NaBFID), expects the digi-
tal sector to contribute a
quarter of the incremental
GDP by the time the econo-
my becomes a $ 7 trillion
giant by FY29. Currently,
the contribution of the
digital economy is a low
4%, whereas it is as much
as 40% in China.
The government and
planners see the economy
becoming the third largest
in the world by FY29, over-
taking Japan, with a GDP
of $7 trillion from the pre-
sent $3.3 trillion.
The digital economy --
the digital infrastructure,
e-commerce and other digi-

segments--can be the coun-
try’s biggest growth-driver
and can contribute as
much as 25% of the incre-
mental GDP by the time
India becomes a $7-trillion
economy by FY29. Current-
ly, the share is a low 4%,
Kamath said.
“As much as 40% of the
Chinese economy come
from the digital sector to-
day, and I don’t see any rea-
son why we can’t achieve
this,” the former ICICI
Bank chairman quipped.
Kamath said, the NaB-
FID is actively looking to
fund key areas in this space
such as data centres.

INDIGO, GO FIRST FACE PW ENGINE HEADWINDS
New Delhi (PTI): More than 50 planes of IndiGo and Go First are on
the ground due to Pratt Whitney engine woes amid persisting sup-
ply chain headwinds, forcing airlines to explore wet leasing of aircraft
and other options to minimise disruptions, according to officials. The
country’s largest airline IndiGo is looking at various options, includ-
ing slowing down redeliveries through lease extensions, exploring

‘MAY FALL SHORT OF TARGET’
India’s economic growth fragile
New Delhi (PTI): India’s
economic growth appears
to be ‘very fragile’ and it
may fall short of what the
country needs to meet the
aspirations of its growing
workforce, RBI Monetary
Policy Committee (MPC)
member Jayanth R Varma
said on Sunday
.
In India, Varma said he
expects inflation to remain
high in 2022-23 but come
down significantly in 2023-
24. “However, growth ap-
pears to be very fragile,
and monetary tightening
is compressing demand,”
he said.
Explaining further, he
said rising EMI payments
increases the pressure on
household budgets and
dampens spending, and ex-
ports are struggling in the
face of global factors.
While noting that high
interest rates make private
capital investment more
difficult, Varma said the
government is in fiscal con-
solidation mode, thus re-
ducing the support to the
economy from this source.
“Because of all these fac-
tors, I fear that growth may
fall short of what we need
to meet the aspirations of
our growing workforce
given our demographic
context and income level,”
he said.
The Reserve Bank of In-
dia (RBI) has projected In-
dia’s economic growth at
6.4% for 2023- 24. Gross Do-
mestic Product (GDP)
growth is estimated at 7%
in 2022-23, according to the
first advance estimate of
the NSO.
The Economic Survey
2022-23 projected a baseline
GDP growth of 6.5% in real
terms for the next fiscal.
Varma, currently a pro-
fessor at the Indian Insti-
tute of Management,
Ahmedabad said he sees
global inflationary pres-
sures dissipating in the
months ahead as the sup-
ply shocks from the pan-
demic and from the
Ukraine war gradually re-
solve themselves.
“The world is learning to
live with the war,” he said,
adding that at the same
time monetary tightening
is putting growth at risk
across the world.

“There is no need to

Shinde further said
he will not to respond to
criticism as he prefers
to work rather than

allegation against me, I
will carry out 10 good
works in Mumbai city
in response,” he said.
The chief minister
also took a dig at Shiv

“mill siren”.
“Earlier, Mumbai

he quipped without tak-

Uddhav Thackeray responsible for
problems in Shiv Sena: Athawale
First India Bureau
Kochi: Union minister
Ramdas Athawale
blamed former Maha-
rashtra Chief Minister,
Uddhav Thackeray, for
“problems in the Shiv
Sena”.
Addressing a press
meeting here on Satur-
day
, Athawale said, “For
the problems in Shiv
Sena, Uddhav Thacker-
ay is responsible. Be-
cause 2019’s mandate
was that the govern-
ment should be of
Bharatiya Janata Party
and Shiv Sena. But, Ud-
dhav Thackeray left the
alliance and joined
hands with Congress
and Nationalist Con-
gress Party. Therefore,
problems occurred.
Otherwise, if Uddhav
Thackeray could be
with the BJP, then there
could be no dispute be-
tween Thackeray and
Eknath Shinde.”
He further said that
incumbent CM Eknath
Shinde’s government
“is a very strong gov-
ernment and they
are taking important
decisions.”
Talking about the
Congress’ plenary ses-
sion, Athawale said, “I
respect Sonia Gandhi.
But Rahul Gandhi is
not a very strong man.
He can’t lead the party.
That’s why he resigned
from the Congress pres-
idency after the defeat.
Smriti Irani defeated
Rahul Gandhi in Ame-
thi. Comparing Rahul
Gandhi to Narendra
Modi, Rahul Gandhi
can’t defeat Narendra
Modi.”
Athawale exuded
confidence that the
BJP-led National Demo-
cratic Alliance (NDA)
will come to power
again.
“There is no opposi-
tion. On one side, there
is Narendra Modi and
on the other side lead-
ers of CPIM, CPI, Aam
Aadmi Party, Congress,
Mamata’s party (Trina-
mool Congress), Nitish

Feel the
blossom
Floral skirts are flirty, fabulous
and enjoyable. City First brings to
you the significance of floral
skirts in the fashion world
retty floral
skirts lead the
list of women’s
skirt trends due
to their femi-
nine allure. Flo-
ral skirt ensem-
bles can appear beauti-
ful if they are worn with
the correct approach.
These dresses are eye
candy thanks to the love-
ly floral pattern. While
the wide selection ena-
bles every lady to select
the ideal one for her
unique style. Floral
skirts give an otherwise
plain closet a celebrato-
ry vibe. They could be
classified as a summer
or spring essential. But
the truth is that if you
know the dos and don’ts
of wearing them with
other clothes, you can
wear them all year
round. Floral dresses
come in a variety
, just
like actual flowers. They
can be long skirts, mini
pencil skirts, or short,
stylish tennis skirts.
They could also be bub-
bleskirts,circularskirts
with flares, or high-
waisted skirts with
pleats. In conclusion,
you can order floral
dresses in any length
and shape. The sort of
floral skirt you choose
will determine how you
should arrange it. These
gorgeous skirts can have
a large-scale pattern
with vibrant, evenly
placed flowers. Alter-
nately
, they could be mi-
nuscule, grouped mini
florals, which might be a
good choice for under-
stated designs. Darker
designs appear more
subtle, while vibrant
flower prints are expres-
sive and upbeat. The
best method to dress a
floral skirt is to give
close attention to the flo-
ral pattern. The flowery
design ought to be the
focal point of your en-
semble. To do credit to
this fashionable item of
clothing, it is essential to
understand what top to
pair with a flowery skirt
and what layering choic-
es can go with it. The
measurements and hues
of the staples you use to
complement it must be
accurate. This will help
you put together an en-
semble that is both cohe-
sive and attractive to the
eye. At times, striking
contrasts in the form
of colours and
patterns also
work for
women who
love an ec-
c e n t r i c
style. Make
sure that the
scale of both
prints is the
same to create
a balanced
look.

The police said the children were trafficked for cheap la- bour work or prostitu- tion, mostly without their parents’ knowl- edge. “Every child has a different story when it comes to trafficking. In some cases, they are kidnapped by agents. There are also times when the children do not have guardians or parents, so these agents pick them up under the guise of getting them jobs for money and shelter. We have also seen cases where chil- dren are sold by the par- ents owing to poor fi- nancial conditions,” the Free Press Journal quoted a senior official as saying. Most of the rescued children were found to be working in small- scale industries in are- as such as Agripada, Govandi, Mankhurd, Nagpada, Oshiwara, Saki Naka, Shivaji Na- gar and Worli. TOP TWEETS SISODIA’S ARREST AIMED AT REINING KEJRIWAL AND DERAILING AAP n a big blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been arrested on al- leged charges of corruption in liquor policy. The arrest was made by the CBI after several hours of interrogation. In an speech earlier, Sisodia asked Ke- jriwal to keep fighting for the people as Prime Minister Naren- dra Modi is scared of only one party which is AAP. Sisodia is the second high-profile AAP minister after Satyender Jain to be arrested by the CBI. Sisodia’s arrest will leave Arvind Kejriwal in a spot as the former has been his trusted lieu- tenant. He is in charge of 18 de- partments, a crucial fact when the party’s Budget Session is due to be tabled in March. The arrest is clearly aimed to weaken the AAP which defeated the BJP in AssemblyandMCDelections. As Sisodia is also alleged to be in- volved in collection of political intelligence about AAP’s rivals, his road ahead is tough. I onia Gandhi’s statement at the Congress plenary that “her innings could conclude with Bharat Jodo Yatra” in Raipur on Saturday has set off speculation about her re- tirement from active politics. The Congress party’s clarifi- cation that what she meant was her tenure as party pres- ident was not of much help in the context of the tenor of her speech. Sonia said she had the honour of taking over as party president in 1998 and “over these 25 years” the “support, goodwill and understanding of each one of you and all the Congress party workers throughout the country have given us strength. Our victories in 2004 and 2009 along with the able leadership of Manmo- han Singhji gave me personal satisfaction, but what grati- fies me most is that my in- nings could conclude with Bharat Jodo Yatra”. Kumari Selja, a senior leader, said Sonia spoke in the context of her tenure as party president. Another party member Alka Lamba said she was able to speak with Sonia on this, who told her that “she has never re- tired, nor she will do so”. The party may have played down any talk of Sonia retiring from politics but the refer- ence to her statement coin- ciding with Bharat Jodo Yatra suggests that she is not giving up her faith in her son Rahul Gandhi. One must also not forget that she stepped down as party president in October 2022, when Mallikar- jun Kharge was elected party chief. Party may have down- played the import of her statement as that would have again triggered pro and anti- Rahul faction war within. IS SONIA RETIRING FROM POLITICS? Sonia Gandhi’s statement at the Congress plenary that “her innings could conclude with Bharat Jodo Yatra” in Raipur on Saturday has set off speculation about her retirement from active politics S atural calamities are inevita- ble, and at times they show- case mother nature’s fury side. From massive earth- quakes that rocked Turkey and Syria to the devastating forest fires that ravaged Chile and flash floods in the Southern Hemisphere, Feb- ruary has been a month of deadly natural calamities. During any calamities, where we all return to our ba- sics, i.e ‘humanity’ irrespec- tive of class, creed, religion, gender, socioeconomicquo,or any other parameter of per- petual social differences that we all sadly follow, knowingly or unknowingly . While calam- ities are destructive and tax- ing, all they occasionally do to us - is knock our conscience. And at this juncture, a mili- tary drill comes to the fore is – HADR (Humanitarian As- sistance Disaster Relief) It is when we have seen the world to stand – secular in all truthfulness. Each time HADR support is extended for any victim nation, it is delivered through the Armed Forces being functional on- ground, reverberating to their call of duty. Be it the combat ready, Army – an ag- ile Air Force, the silent and cohesive Navy , or any special- ized task force like – NDRF. All stand one, with a common objective to their super vigi- lant senses, i.e, to appease humanity and save lives. Recently, HADR was ex- tended to the quake-hit na- tions of Syria and Turkiye. Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govern- ment of India, was instru- mental in sending the prompt HADR for both the victim na- tions. India has aided the vic- tim countries in the spirit of its age-old tradition of – “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.” India has provided life- saving emergency medicines, protective items, medical equipment, critical care drugs, etc, as part of India’s HADR plan, calling it – Op- eration Dost this time.
