Jaipur: A businessman’s son was kidnapped
by unidentified culprits. The young boy was
forcibly taken away in a black car, subjected to
physical assault, and later abandoned on the road-

to the father, a stranger approached his son de-
manding the bicycle he was riding. The boy, under-
standably cautious, refused, explaining that he did
not know the person. The stranger then compelled
the child to sit on the bicycle’s rear seat and rode
off with him for a short distance and later he was
forcefully taken in a car. The culprits abandoned
the kid by the roadside along Ajmer highway. A rick-
shaw puller came to the child’s aid and helped him
contact his father. The father immediately reported
the matter to police and rushed to the spot.

HOUSEHOLDS BORROW

ccording to the Reserve Bank of India data
shows a sharp decline in the net financial
savings (NFS) of households from 7.9 per-
cent of the GDPin 2021-22 to 5.1 percent in 2022-23,
the lowest in five decades. Correspondingly, house-
hold financial borrowings saw a surge with RETAIL
Personal Loans rising from Rs 35.94 lakh crore in
July 2022 to Rs 47.31 lakh crore in July 2023. That
leads us to the question whether we are borrowing
more to pander to the consumer within us on the lines
of American con-
sumerism. On the
flip side the more we
spend we contribute
more to the govern-
ment’s kitty but for a
family to borrow for
spending may not be
such a good idea.
Earlier, families used
to plan their expendi-
tures based on their
savings.
The rise in bor-
rowings could be due
to high medical ex-
penses during the
pandemic and also
for clearing past
debts. India’s medi-
cal inflation is esti-
mated to be 12 per-
cent, which is the
highest in Asia. The
cost of medical treat-
ment in India has
doubled in the last five years. Economists doubt if
the consumption-led growth is sustainable.
State Bank of India’s research unit, however, dis-
missed the assessment of decline in household in-
come. “…this is completely misleading as household
savings must be looked into as a sum total of physi-
cal and financial savings”, the Group Chief Econom-
icAdvisor of SBI was quoted as saying. This may be
true as GST on purchase of property adds to a con-
sumer’s financial burden, the high cost of medical
treatment and education also cannot be denied.

MORE ABOUT
CONSCIOUSNESS
It turns out that God doesn’t
need to be accepted or reject-
ed. By any name, the creator
of the universe created it out
of itself. God became the
universe, if you want to put
it that way. But if you strip it
down to the nub, conscious-
ness became the universe.
Everything that baffles our
habit of either/or thinking is
resolved once you adopt the
perspective of wholeness.
Like a richly fulfilling life,
the cosmos is richly fulfilling
because it does what it wants
to do, following rules when
it wants to, ignoring them on
a spree of free thinking and
behavior when rules feel too
confining. Fortunately for
human existence, cosmic
consciousness decided that it
wanted to be loving, compas-
sionate, blissful, creative, and
evolutionary when it comes
down to it.
All our detours into doubt,
habit, conditioning, misbe-
havior, anger, revenge, and
unnecessary suffering aren’t
part of the basic setup. They
are our creative impulses
taking a perverse turn. The
greatest gift bestowed on
humans is the evolutionary
impulse, and if other uni-
verses lack this gift, it would
be better not to inhabit them.
SOLVINGTHE
GODPARADOX
he fact that
every socie-
ty remains
divided over
religion in
the modern world means
that the age-old question,
“Does God exist?” remains
in limbo. Paradoxically,
the camp that needs God to
exist and the opposite
camp, that needs God to
disappear, holds equal
sway. But there is a way to
solve the God paradox.
First, outrageous as this
will sound to partisans on
either side, the following
propositions show the way
to an answer.
l God did not create the
universe.
l The Biblical story of crea-
tion in the Book of Gen-
esis is wrong. Religious
dogma in every culture is
just as wrong.
l Militant atheism is wrong.
I am not insisting on
these points but offering
them as a starting point,
because we need a clean
slate. If the word “wrong”
bothers you, substitute
“hasn’t worked out.”
These statements can
cause strong reactions, but
this doesn’t matter right
now. We are looking past
personal opinions to reveal
some underlying clarity.
In the modern secular
world, atheism appears to
have the upper hand. The
notion of creating the uni-
verse in seven days can
easily be ridiculed, and if
someone insists that God is
the Creator, the atheist po-
sition is simple: who cre-
ated God? Here we begin
to see a glimmer of an an-
swer, because “Who cre-
ated God?” poses an una-
voidable issue. Where did
creation begin? This issue
plagues not just religion
but cosmology. If there is
a universe filled with near-
ly infinite universes, where
did the first one come
from? Going backward,
forward, or sideways into
alternative universes
doesn’t solve the issue of
finding an actual source
for creation.
Militant atheists, still
championed by the last
old-fashioned anti-reli-
gionist, Richard Dawkins,
are working from an out-
moded model as creaky as
outmoded physics. Leav-
ing aside sheer rhetoric
(lumping all believers as
superstitious, tracing reli-
gion to the primitive state
of Stone Age societies,
etc.), atheism cannot hold
water until it acknowledges
that physics has arrived at
a new set of suppositions.
Therefore, the old-fash-
ioned bedrock of atheism,
which makes science the
enemy of religion (or more
crudely, reason the enemy
of superstition) has col-
lapsed.AcauselessGodout-
side space and time is noth-
ingtoridicule.Somethingis
causeless and outside space
and time if it is to qualify as
the cause of the universe.
The arrival of quantum me-
chanics more than a century
ago established that the
quantum field doesn’t obey
normal cause and effect. In-
stead, reality begins as a
fieldofpossibilities,andthis
field is causeless because
every subatomic particle
and every quantum event is
entangled with every other.
Afixedeventinthephysical
universe is spontaneously
created,liketakingaladleof
quantum soup out of the in-
finite pot of quantum soup.
Without delving into the
details, quantum mechanics
reveals everyday things in
our own world. In your dai-
ly life things are unpredict-
able, sometimes random-
seeming,sometimesfollow-
ing a pattern. There are
quantumleapsofthought,at
the very least sudden in-
sights or realizations, which
interrupt the continuity of
things. This kind of sponta-
neous, unpredictable, dis-
continuous setup is paral-
leled in the quantum world.
Now we have another
glimmer of the answer to
the God paradox. Different
levels of reality are part of
the same creative process.
There is unity despite the
appearance of randomness
and diversity. In the Vedic
tradition of India, this is
pithily expressed in an
aphorism: “As above, so
below.” The truth of this is
all around us. If you look
at stars, galaxies, cells, or-
gans, living systems, and
human culture for the last
30,000 years, there is a
deep link across the board.
As each traveled to the
region of the fetal brain, it
was directed with exact
precision to the area of the
mature brain where it
would reside for life.
At first blush this
scheme defies logic. If the
quantum world is sponta-
neous, unpredictable, and
uncertain, and if the physi-
cal world is united with the
quantum world, where did
the creative, evolutionary
impulse come from? In a
word, what created crea-
tivity? This is the question
that morphed out of “Who
created the Creator?”
The answer that we have
been striving for, it turns
out, must contain contra-
dictory qualities that beg-
gar any kind of either/or
logic. The source of crea-
tion doesn’t need a creator.
The source is beyond
thought and perception, yet
it gives rise to all thoughts
and perceptions. The
source is inconceivable yet
gives rise to everything we
conceive of, including sci-
ence and mythology. The
source is transcendent in
the most radical way—it is
a realm of pure, infinite
possibilities.
Taken all together, these
aren’t head-spinning prop-
ositions that are circular
and illogical. They are the
answer to where the uni-
verse came from. The
source of creation is pure
awareness, nothing else.
No other answer suffices.
Leaving aside all religious
and anti-religious opinions,
all competing philoso-
phies, even all worldviews,
a single unbroken thread
runs through human exist-
ence: consciousness. Look-
ing at your own awareness,
you will see into the mirror
of cosmic awareness.
Your awareness is a
field full of possibilities. It
gels into thoughts and
feelings constantly. You
are motivated by using at-
tention and intention,
which gives you goals and
desires. You are capable of
creative activity, whether
or not you take advantage
of this. You know that you
exist, which is the seed of
self-awareness. Most im-
portant of all, none of the
above had to be invented.
They are aspects of one in-
nate thing: consciousness
itself.

Eagerly waiting for Chandrayaan-3 lander,

ISRO scientists are ea-
gerly waiting for the
Vikram lander and the
Pragyan rover of Chan-
drayaan-3 to wake up
from their 14-day sleep
during the lunar night,
Union Minister of State
(MoS) Jitendra Singh
said in the Lok Sabha on
Thursday.
“All efforts are being
made to awaken Vikram
and Pragyan from their
sleep. When we sleep on
earth tonight,Vikram and
Pragyan will perhaps
wake up on the moon,”
Singh said, responding to
a discussion on the Chan-
drayaan-3 lunar mission
in the lower house of Par-
liament.
The Vikram lander and
the Pragyan rover of
Chandrayaan-3, who are
currently in “sleep mode”
near the Moon’s South
Pole after having com-
pleted their set tasks, are
expected to awake on Fri-
day (September 22).
“The Chandrayaan-3
landed successfully and it
worked for almost 14
days. It was designed to
work for 14 days (on the
moon). Its life period was
only 14 days because the
moon’s temperature falls
down to (-) 250 degrees
during the (lunar) night-
time. So it worked during
the sun hours or daytime
and during that it had al-
ready given all the data (it
was supposed to),” said

Congress president and
Leader of Opposition in
Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun

iconic ‘kaal kare so aaj
kar’ couplet to attack the
Bharatiya Janata Party
over delays in imple-
menting the women’s
reservation bill, which
sailed through the Lok

Kharge called on the
government to amend the
bill and allow 33 per cent
of seats in the Lower
House and state legisla-
tures to be reserved for
women in time for the
2024 election. At present
the bill requires a census

“Amendment of this
bill is not difficult... you
(the government) can do
this now but have post-
poned it till 2031. What
does this mean?” Kharge
said, demanding to know
“When reservations (for
women) can take place
for panchayat polls and

why not this also for

foot per second) of water
every day for the next 15
days to Tamil Nadu.
Abench of Justices BR

ground that it was facing
a drought-like situation

come to light in
connection with the RAS

September 13. The DoP
had ordered all officials
to get relieved immedi-

soon. But even after ten
days of passing the order,
eight officers have still
not joined the new post-

eight officers are women,
who have requested leave

These 8 officials are :
Anjana Sherawat, Nidhi

of these officials have
even forwarded the cer-

However, the DoP has

and logic. All eight fe-
male RAS officials have
been sent notice to ap-
pear before a Medical

Notably, among these,
Anjana Sherawat has

opportunity to enhance the festive look with some fantastic nail art
designs to make it more attractive and stylish.
ave you ever
caught sight
of someone’s
p e r f e c t l y
manicured
nails while
scrolling through Insta-
gramorwatchingaYou-
Tube video? You may
have thought about
how gorgeous the col-
our appears or how
beautiful the design is.
Nails are indeed an ex-
tension of the hand, and
they make a statement
about a person’s ap-
pearance as a whole.
It completes your
fashion statement,

ates your personality.
There is no end to nail
designs because they
come in a wide variety of
colours, patterns, and con-
cepts.Afresh nail art craze is
starting to emerge that is
quite literally raising the
bar—or at the very least, the
height—of your manicure.
The fad for 3D Manis
started, as with many of our
favourite weird and fantastic
aesthetic improvements, and
is constantly spreading
around the world and onto
the hands of some of our fa-
vourite celebrities, the cur-
rent chrome nail style is per-
fect for the next season even
though pastels and brilliant
hues are traditionally associ-
ated with spring. Nail exten-
sions are for every occasion,
there is nothing about the
design that is uncharismatic
pair the colors together with
printing foils on your nails to
make the spring-inspired
manicure stand out a little
more, you can also add some
basic, tiny dazzling nail dec-
orations or stones to round
off the exquisite and trendy
look. The most recent devel-
opment in personal groom-
ing is the use of Swarovski
stones, which empowers
women to express their indi-
viduality via fashion and
style.
Your neatly painted nails’
blingy and sparkling stones
can give your hands and en-
tire outfit more charisma and
oomph. Glitter, festivities,
shimmers, and dressing up
are all big in the nail world,
when choosing your attire,
accessories, and jewellery
for any event, you definitely
don’t want to skip the oppor-
tunity to enhance the festive
look with some fantastic nail
art designs. Your manicure
should have a festival-sea-
son vibe that captures the
glitz, glamour, and excite-
ment of the season.

SPICYFOOD
CAUSESULCERS!
AMYTH
t is a common
belief that we
should avoid
spicy food be-
cause spices
may cause ul-
cers in the
mouth and stomach. So many
people complain with a degree of
innocence about why they got ul-
cers in the stomach when their diet
has always been bland! Research-
ers and experts working in this
field agree that spicy foods do not
cause ulcers either in the oral cav-
ity or in the stomach. The only
reason for the advice to avoid
spicy food in such people
is that spicy foods aggra-
vate pain arising out of
these ulcers but by
themselves are not
responsible for the
causation of these ulcers.
The triggering factors for ul-
cer formation are either bacterial,
viral or parasite infection of the
intestine including the oral cavity.
Sometimes trauma may lead to
ulcers on the tongue and mucosa
of the mouth. Many types of al-
lergic reactions and chemotherapy
can trigger oral ulcer formation.
Prolonged and high levels of
stress may be responsible for ul-
ceration but its mechanism of cell
damage is not fully understood.
There is no definitive treat-
ment for oral ulcers though in
many cases treating intestinal bac-
terial or amoebic infection heals
them but still, there are many
cases which are not manageable
satisfactorily with people suffer-
ing even for their entire life. This
happens because we do not know
exactly why ulcers occur in these
people though chronic inflamma-
tion may be responsible in many
cases. Other than that some vita-
min and nutritional deficiencies
may also be responsible in some
cases where improvement in diet
and supplements of vitamins help
attain a cure.
For peptic ulcers, two major
causative agents are a bacteria
called H. Pylori and painkiller
drugs from a category called
NSAIDs. Treating H. Pylori vig-
orously and avoiding offending
painkillers may attain a cure in
many people. The stress of mod-
ern lifestyle has also emerged as a
strong trigger for stomach ulcer
formation and hence, should be
managed by counseling and life-
style changes. Smoking should be
strictly avoided and alcohol con-
sumption be moderated. Sleep is
a great healer hence, avoid mobile
use after 9 pm and instead of mo-
bile go for a book and a pillow for
a relaxing sleep during the night.
Restrict salt-preserved fish, meat
and vegetables as well as pro-
cessed, grilled and charcoal-
cooked foods to a minimum.
Herbs and many spices help in
maintaining cardiovascular
health. Cinnamon, turmeric and
oregano belong to that category.
Pepper in moderation has defini-
tive health benefits.
Thus, we should look for caus-
es other than spicy food for recur-
rent or persistent ulcers of the
mouth or stomach otherwise the
diagnosis would be missed. Fi-
nally, the prolonged use of ulcer
drugs like omeprazole, and panto-
prazole should be avoided as they
may be harmful to muscle and
bone health and also make you
deficient in certain vitamins and
prone to some infections.

pectacles in Bollywood
movies worn by wom-
en usually carry conno-
tations about a wom-
an’s beauty or intellect.
Sometimes it represents
self-imposed gloom and maturity. This
look has been used by Hollywood as
well to create a strong character in the
movies. Even our Bollywood lasses are
not behind. No wonder these are back
and so popular because nowadays eve-
rything vintage and retro is loved un-
conditionally. Bollywood has made
several appearances in these glasses.
Here we take a look at the specs styles
which our Bollywood divas have nailed
in their films. Everyone loved it when
Kareena Kapoor Khan in 3 Idiots
flaunted a geeky look. Bebo's specs ap-
peal did go well with the youth making
it a trend among many girls.
Here's to the
actress who
brought the nerdy
trend back. In Ok
Jaanu, Shraddha
Kapoor gave one
of the best
performances of
her career.
Kapoor with
the glasses
stole
everyone’s
heart.
Katrina's innocent
and innocuous
look with glasses
from the movies
Jagga Jasoos and
Ajab Prem Ki
Ghazab Kahani
inspired many
specs lovers
across the globe.
Parineeti Chopra's
flick Sandeep Aur
Pinky Faraar
made us witness
her new avatar
in glasses. It
made her look
cute and
confident
which
impressed the
audience to the
core. S
Dhhanushri
Vyas
cityfirst@firstindia.co.in
Sonakshi Sinha's
appearance couldn’t have
been complete without
those glasses in Noor. She
wore the glasses for a
significant number of
scenes which impressed
everyone and perfected
her role as a journalist.
Specs have always created fresh trends every time they were worn onscreen by film
stars. They act as the heart of the style statement of the Indian film industry. Hence,
City First brings to you actresses who have sported glasses in movies.
BOLLYWOOD'S
Spec-tacularStyle
Sonam Kapoor
Ahuja flaunted
specs in two of
her movies. She
was seen with
the glasses in
I Hate Luv
Storys and then
again in
Bewakoofiyaan
and personified
cuteness in
both films.
Though we
wouldn't say that
this was a look in
vogue, Alia Bhatt
surely played the
part of a young
woman well in Dear
Zindagi and the
specs added that
extra gracefulness
to that of her role
as a mentally
grieving youngster.
Actress Preity Zinta
played the role of
Naina in the movie
Kal Ho Na Ho and
maybe she is the
only actress who
had the glasses in
the whole film. Yet
she looked poised
and calm in this
glassy avatar.
Deepika Padukone is another Bollywood beauty
who comes to our mind when we think about
glasses. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani actress wore
nerdy specs which made her look like a simple yet
serious medical student in the movie.

Even as Guterres spoke, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced sof- tening of his green policy the implementation of which will be delayed by five years. In what he called a “more pragmatic approach” to achieving net zero carbon emission the sale of petrol and diesel cars will now begin from 2035. U HOUSEHOLDS BORROW MORE TO SPEND ccording to the Reserve Bank of India data shows a sharp decline in the net financial savings (NFS) of households from 7.9 per- cent of the GDPin 2021-22 to 5.1 percent in 2022-23, the lowest in five decades. Correspondingly, house- hold financial borrowings saw a surge with RETAIL Personal Loans rising from Rs 35.94 lakh crore in July 2022 to Rs 47.31 lakh crore in July 2023. That leads us to the question whether we are borrowing more to pander to the consumer within us on the lines of American con- sumerism. On the flip side the more we spend we contribute more to the govern- ment’s kitty but for a family to borrow for spending may not be such a good idea. Earlier, families used to plan their expendi- tures based on their savings. The rise in bor- rowings could be due to high medical ex- penses during the pandemic and also for clearing past debts. India’s medi- cal inflation is esti- mated to be 12 per- cent, which is the highest in Asia. The cost of medical treat- ment in India has doubled in the last five years. Economists doubt if the consumption-led growth is sustainable. State Bank of India’s research unit, however, dis- missed the assessment of decline in household in- come. “…this is completely misleading as household savings must be looked into as a sum total of physi- cal and financial savings”, the Group Chief Econom- icAdvisor of SBI was quoted as saying. This may be true as GST on purchase of property adds to a con- sumer’s financial burden, the high cost of medical treatment and education also cannot be denied. By any name, the creator of the universe created it out of itself. God became the universe, if you want to put it that way. But if you strip it down to the nub, conscious- ness became the universe. Everything that baffles our habit of either/or thinking is resolved once you adopt the perspective of wholeness. Like a richly fulfilling life, the cosmos is richly fulfilling because it does what it wants to do, following rules when it wants to, ignoring them on a spree of free thinking and behavior when rules feel too confining. Fortunately for human existence, cosmic consciousness decided that it wanted to be loving, compas- sionate, blissful, creative, and evolutionary when it comes down to it. All our detours into doubt, habit, conditioning, misbe- havior, anger, revenge, and unnecessary suffering aren’t part of the basic setup. They are our creative impulses taking a perverse turn. The greatest gift bestowed on humans is the evolutionary impulse, and if other uni- verses lack this gift, it would be better not to inhabit them. SOLVINGTHE GODPARADOX he fact that every socie- ty remains divided over religion in the modern world means that the age-old question, “Does God exist?” remains in limbo. Paradoxically, the camp that needs God to exist and the opposite camp, that needs God to disappear, holds equal sway. But there is a way to solve the God paradox. First, outrageous as this will sound to partisans on either side, the following propositions show the way to an answer. l God did not create the universe. l The Biblical story of crea- tion in the Book of Gen- esis is wrong. Religious dogma in every culture is just as wrong. l Militant atheism is wrong. I am not insisting on these points but offering them as a starting point, because we need a clean slate. If the word “wrong” bothers you, substitute “hasn’t worked out.” These statements can cause strong reactions, but this doesn’t matter right now. We are looking past personal opinions to reveal some underlying clarity. In the modern secular world, atheism appears to have the upper hand. The notion of creating the uni- verse in seven days can easily be ridiculed, and if someone insists that God is the Creator, the atheist po- sition is simple: who cre- ated God? Here we begin to see a glimmer of an an- swer, because “Who cre- ated God?” poses an una- voidable issue. Where did creation begin? This issue plagues not just religion but cosmology. If there is a universe filled with near- ly infinite universes, where did the first one come from? Going backward, forward, or sideways into alternative universes doesn’t solve the issue of finding an actual source for creation. Militant atheists, still championed by the last old-fashioned anti-reli- gionist, Richard Dawkins, are working from an out- moded model as creaky as outmoded physics. Leav- ing aside sheer rhetoric (lumping all believers as superstitious, tracing reli- gion to the primitive state of Stone Age societies, etc.), atheism cannot hold water until it acknowledges that physics has arrived at a new set of suppositions. Therefore, the old-fash- ioned bedrock of atheism, which makes science the enemy of religion (or more crudely, reason the enemy of superstition) has col- lapsed.AcauselessGodout- side space and time is noth- ingtoridicule.Somethingis causeless and outside space and time if it is to qualify as the cause of the universe. The arrival of quantum me- chanics more than a century ago established that the quantum field doesn’t obey normal cause and effect. In- stead, reality begins as a fieldofpossibilities, andthis field is causeless because every subatomic particle and every quantum event is entangled with every other. Afixedeventinthephysical universe is spontaneously created, liketakingaladleof quantum soup out of the in- finite pot of quantum soup. Without delving into the details, quantum mechanics reveals everyday things in our own world. In your dai- ly life things are unpredict- able, sometimes random- seeming,sometimesfollow- ing a pattern. There are quantumleapsofthought,at the very least sudden in- sights or realizations, which interrupt the continuity of things. This kind of sponta- neous, unpredictable, dis- continuous setup is paral- leled in the quantum world. Now we have another glimmer of the answer to the God paradox. Different levels of reality are part of the same creative process. There is unity despite the appearance of randomness and diversity. In the Vedic tradition of India, this is pithily expressed in an aphorism: “As above, so below.” The truth of this is all around us. If you look at stars, galaxies, cells, or- gans, living systems, and human culture for the last 30,000 years, there is a deep link across the board. As each traveled to the region of the fetal brain, it was directed with exact precision to the area of the mature brain where it would reside for life. At first blush this scheme defies logic. If the quantum world is sponta- neous, unpredictable, and uncertain, and if the physi- cal world is united with the quantum world, where did the creative, evolutionary impulse come from? In a word, what created crea- tivity? This is the question that morphed out of “Who created the Creator?” The answer that we have been striving for, it turns out, must contain contra- dictory qualities that beg- gar any kind of either/or logic. The source of crea- tion doesn’t need a creator. The source is beyond thought and perception, yet it gives rise to all thoughts and perceptions. The source is inconceivable yet gives rise to everything we conceive of, including sci- ence and mythology. The source is transcendent in the most radical way—it is a realm of pure, infinite possibilities. Taken all together, these aren’t head-spinning prop- ositions that are circular and illogical. They are the answer to where the uni- verse came from. The source of creation is pure awareness, nothing else. No other answer suffices. Leaving aside all religious and anti-religious opinions, all competing philoso- phies, even all worldviews, a single unbroken thread runs through human exist- ence: consciousness. Look- ing at your own awareness, you will see into the mirror of cosmic awareness. Your awareness is a field full of possibilities. It gels into thoughts and feelings constantly. You are motivated by using at- tention and intention, which gives you goals and desires. You are capable of creative activity, whether or not you take advantage of this. You know that you exist, which is the seed of self-awareness. Most im- portant of all, none of the above had to be invented. They are aspects of one in- nate thing: consciousness itself. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL Militant atheists, still championed by the last old- fashioned anti-religionist, Richard Dawkins, are working from an outmoded model as creaky as outmoded physics. When we sleep on earth tonight,Vikram and Pragyan will perhaps wake up on the moon,” Singh said, responding to a discussion on the Chan- drayaan-3 lunar mission in the lower house of Par- liament. The Vikram lander and the Pragyan rover of Chandrayaan-3, who are currently in “sleep mode” near the Moon’s South Pole after having com- pleted their set tasks, are expected to awake on Fri- day (September 22). “The Chandrayaan-3 landed successfully and it worked for almost 14 days. It was designed to work for 14 days (on the moon). Its life period was only 14 days because the moon’s temperature falls down to (-) 250 degrees during the (lunar) night- time. So it worked during the sun hours or daytime and during that it had al- ready given all the data (it was supposed to),” said Bhubaneswar-based space scientist Suvendu Patnayak. Con- sider this: In 1992, the batch of secretaries cur- rently serving in the Gov- ernment of India began their journey. AMYTH t is a common belief that we should avoid spicy food be- cause spices may cause ul- cers in the mouth and stomach. So many people complain with a degree of innocence about why they got ul- cers in the stomach when their diet has always been bland! Research- ers and experts working in this field agree that spicy foods do not cause ulcers either in the oral cav- ity or in the stomach. The only reason for the advice to avoid spicy food in such people is that spicy foods aggra- vate pain arising out of these ulcers but by themselves are not responsible for the causation of these ulcers. The triggering factors for ul- cer formation are either bacterial, viral or parasite infection of the intestine including the oral cavity. Sometimes trauma may lead to ulcers on the tongue and mucosa of the mouth. Many types of al- lergic reactions and chemotherapy can trigger oral ulcer formation. Prolonged and high levels of stress may be responsible for ul- ceration but its mechanism of cell damage is not fully understood. There is no definitive treat- ment for oral ulcers though in many cases treating intestinal bac- terial or amoebic infection heals them but still, there are many cases which are not manageable satisfactorily with people suffer- ing even for their entire life. This happens because we do not know exactly why ulcers occur in these people though chronic inflamma- tion may be responsible in many cases. Other than that some vita- min and nutritional deficiencies may also be responsible in some cases where improvement in diet and supplements of vitamins help attain a cure. For peptic ulcers, two major causative agents are a bacteria called H. Pylori and painkiller drugs from a category called NSAIDs. Treating H. Pylori vig- orously and avoiding offending painkillers may attain a cure in many people. The stress of mod- ern lifestyle has also emerged as a strong trigger for stomach ulcer formation and hence, should be managed by counseling and life- style changes. Smoking should be strictly avoided and alcohol con- sumption be moderated. Sleep is a great healer hence, avoid mobile use after 9 pm and instead of mo- bile go for a book and a pillow for a relaxing sleep during the night. Restrict salt-preserved fish, meat and vegetables as well as pro- cessed, grilled and charcoal- cooked foods to a minimum. Herbs and many spices help in maintaining cardiovascular health. Cinnamon, turmeric and oregano belong to that category. Pepper in moderation has defini- tive health benefits. Thus, we should look for caus- es other than spicy food for recur- rent or persistent ulcers of the mouth or stomach otherwise the diagnosis would be missed. Fi- nally, the prolonged use of ulcer drugs like omeprazole, and panto- prazole should be avoided as they may be harmful to muscle and bone health and also make you deficient in certain vitamins and prone to some infections. No wonder these are back and so popular because nowadays eve- rything vintage and retro is loved un- conditionally. Bollywood has made several appearances in these glasses. Here we take a look at the specs styles which our Bollywood divas have nailed in their films. Everyone loved it when Kareena Kapoor Khan in 3 Idiots flaunted a geeky look. Bebo's specs ap- peal did go well with the youth making it a trend among many girls. Here's to the actress who brought the nerdy trend back. In Ok Jaanu, Shraddha Kapoor gave one of the best performances of her career. Kapoor with the glasses stole everyone’s heart. Katrina's innocent and innocuous look with glasses from the movies Jagga Jasoos and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani inspired many specs lovers across the globe. Hence, City First brings to you actresses who have sported glasses in movies. BOLLYWOOD'S Spec-tacularStyle Sonam Kapoor Ahuja flaunted specs in two of her movies. She was seen with the glasses in I Hate Luv Storys and then again in Bewakoofiyaan and personified cuteness in both films. Though we wouldn't say that this was a look in vogue, Alia Bhatt surely played the part of a young woman well in Dear Zindagi and the specs added that extra gracefulness to that of her role as a mentally grieving youngster. Actress Preity Zinta played the role of Naina in the movie Kal Ho Na Ho and maybe she is the only actress who had the glasses in the whole film. Yet she looked poised and calm in this glassy avatar. Deepika Padukone is another Bollywood beauty who comes to our mind when we think about glasses.
