Border dispute, naxal threat heats up the political temperature in House
First India Bureau
Nagpur: The first day
of the winter session of
the Maharashtra Legis-
lative Assembly began
with an uproar by the
opposition, with MLAs
of the Mahavikas Agha-
di holding placards pro-
testing in the Vidhan
Bhavan premises over
the Maharashtra-Kar-
nataka border dispute
MLAs of NCP, Con-

saheb Thackeray Shiv
Sena joined the protest.
Leader of Opposition
Ajit Pawar raised the is-
sue of the border dis-
pute in the Assembly
and said “A Lok Sabha
member from Maha-
rashtra has been
stopped from entering
Belagaum. In a meeting
with Home Minister
Amit Shah it was de-
cided that no one would
be stopped from going
there, then how can the
collector there take
such a decision.”
Responding to the is-
sue raised by Pawar,
Chief Minister Eknath
Shinde said, “For the
first time the Home
Minister of the country
mediated the border
dispute, he has taken
this issue seriously
. We
have presented the side
of the border residents
to him. Amit Shah has
put forth his point in
front of the border dis-
pute. Now there should
be no politics on the
border dispute. We
should stand together
with the border resi-
dents.”
Maharashtra Deputy
Chief Minister Deven-

with CM Shinde’s re-
marks and said that the
government will look

Monday said a political party was behind a sudden
surge in the passing of resolutions by some villages
in the border areas seeking to join Karnataka and Tel-
angana. Speaking at a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
function in Nagpur, Fadnavis, who holds the Home
portfolio, cited intelligence input to say workers of a
political party in those villages held such meetings
with an intention to defame the Maharashtra govt.
“There has been a surge in resolutions being passed
by some villages in (border areas) of Maharash-
tra over the last few weeks seeking to merge with
neighbouring Karnataka and Telangana. I am also a
home minister and asked intelligence officials to find
out the truth behind it. It was evident that workers of
a particular political party in those villages held such
meetings to defame the state government”, he said.

Nagpur: Chief Minis-
ter Eknath Shinde on
Monday said in the Ma-
harashtra Assembly the
state should stand firm-
ly behind people in the
Marathi-speaking areas
of neighbouring Karna-

to political parties not
to behave in a way that
would hurt them.
He was addressing
the state Assembly on
the first day of the Ma-
harashtra Legisla-
ture’s Winter Session
in Nagpur.
Deputy Chief Minis-
ter Devendra Fadnavis
said the state govern-
ment will initiate a spe-
cial programme for the
development of villages
located along the bor-
der and resolve their
pending issues.
The state govern-
ment was making ef-
forts for the release of
the people and leaders
detained in Karnataka,
he said amid the ongo-
ing boundary dispute
between the two states.
Raising the issue in
the Assembly
, Leader of
Opposition Ajit Pawar
said Shiv Sena MP
Dhairyasheel Mane (of
the Shinde faction) was
stopped from entering
Belagavi in Karnataka,
despite the intervention
of Union Home Minis-
ter Amit Shah in the
boundary dispute.
Responding to it,
Shinde said there can be
no dispute over the fact
that the issue raised by
Pawar is important in
terms of Maharashtra.
“For the first time,
the Union home minis-
ter intervened in the
matter and mediated.
He called a meeting and
this has happened for
the first time. He has
taken the matter seri-
ously,” said the CM.
“We should stand by
the people residing in
border areas, back their
struggle and act in a
way that does not hurt
them,” he added.
Shinde said the state
government urged the
Centre that this issue is
related to the self-re-
spect of Maharashtra

firm stand in the favour
of Maharashtra and
people residing in the
border areas.
“We said vehicles

Nagpur: Senior Con-
gress leader Ashok
Chavan on Monday
claimed Maharashtra
was being misled over
the issue of Karnataka
Chief Minister Basa-
varaj Bommai’s ‘fake’
Twitter handle amid
the boundary dispute
between the two states.
Speakingtothemedia
in the Vidhan Bhavan
complex here, Chavan
asked why the Maha-
rashtra government
was silent in the matter
and said it seemed the
state government was
helping Karnataka to
brush aside the contro-
versy over the issue of
the ‘fake’ Twitter ac-
count from which “pro-
vocative comments”
were made.
The former chief
minister added that the
provocative language
used in the tweets was
objectionable.
“It was clarified that
the Twitter handle was
fake. But the handle
was active since Janu-
ary 2015 and has been
verified by Twitter. Till
now, the official deci-
sions taken by the Kar-
nataka government are
posted on that handle,”
Chavan said.
CM Eknath Shinde
last week said tweets in
the name of his Karna-
taka counterpart claim-
ing some areas of Maha-
rashtra were not actu-
ally posted by Bommai.
On this Chavan said,
“The Maharashtra gov-

Sawant on Monday con-
demned the “ban” on
the entry of party MP
Dhairyasheel Mane
into Karnataka’s Bela-
gavi district and called
it an attack on the Con-
stitution.
Raising the issue
during Zero Hour in
the Lok Sabha, the
south Mumbai MP also
called for Union Home
Minister Amit Shah’s
intervention in the
matter and demanded
protection to Maha-
rashtra Ekikaran
Samiti’s leaders follow-
ing Karnataka Police’s
action against some of
them during a protest
in Belagavi.
Sawant described the
Belagavi district ad-
ministration’s move as
an “insult” to the home
minister, saying it
came close on the heels
of Shah advising Kar-
nataka Chief Minister
Basavaraj Bommai and
his Maharashtra coun-
terpart Eknath Shinde
on resolving the bound-
ary dispute between
the two states.
“The ban on the en-
try of leaders from Ma-
harashtra is an attack
on the Constitution.
The worst is that our
home minister is being
insulted by non-compli-
ance with the advice
that he gave to the chief
ministers of Karnata-
ka and Maharashtra
for maintaining peace,”
Sawant said.
Mane was recently
appointed as the chief
of an expert committee
formed by the Maha-
rashtra government re-
garding a writ petition
in the Supreme Court
on the border dispute
with neighbouring
state Karnataka.
He had requested the
Belagavi administra-
tion to make arrange-
ments for his visit to
the city. However, the
district authorities
banned his entry, say-
ing a “possible inflam-
matory speech” by him
might create law and
order problems.
“Karnataka chief
minister is not follow-
ing his (Shah’s) advice.
We vehemently con-
demn it and demand
that the Union Home
Minister immediately
intervene,” Sawant
said.

“Today, the youth of

demanding stopping of
the Surjagarh mining
project in Gadchiroli
district.
Leader of Opposition
in the Assembly and
NCP MLA Ajit Pawar
demanded that Atram’s
security be enhanced in
view of the threat.
NCP leader Dilip
Walse-Patil said,
“Naxalites have started
activities to stop the
mining project and
steps should be taken to
ensure nothing of that
sort happens.” He said
the project gives em-
ployment to over 4,000
people.
However, Congress
MLA Nana Patole took
a contrary stand. He
said the Naxal move-
ment was gaining
strength due to the Sur-

“Do not take this

Patole.

First India Bureau
Mumbai: Tenders
worth Rs30 crore for
the repair and mainte-
nance of manholes in
Mumbai have been in-
vited by the stormwa-
ter drain department
of the Brihanmumbai
Municipal Corpora-
tion (BMC).
“If we find broken
potholes or if our em-
ployees receive com-
plaints of leaking wa-
ter from the manholes,
it will be repaired in
the next 12 hours. Ac-
cordingly, BMC has
invited tenders from
the contractors,” an
official said.
There are more
than one lakh man-
holes in Mumbai city
and suburbs. Drain-
age lines of Mumbai
are of the British era
with several of them
damaged. The cur-
rent condition leads
to the sewage water to
come out through the
manholes. It also pos-
es risk to the health
condition of people in
the locality.
Notably
. There have
been a few reports of
humans falling into
manholes. According
to the officer, the ap-
pointed contractor
will be given a two-
year contract.
Till November end,
BMC installed around
5,792 protective grills
over manholes on
stormwater drains
and sewerage net-
works across the city.
These protective
grills are to protect
people from falling
down in manholes
even if they are left
open during flooding.
However, it has been
noticed that the man-
hole cover gets stolen
at many places as it
fetches between
Rs3,000-5,000.

fans within seconds, it sure
could be easy to become
popular in the world’s most
popular sport. Over the
years, there have been sev-
eral stars who have pro-
duced greatness on the
greens, from Alfredo de Ste-
fano to Johan Cryuff, Fer-
enc Puskas to Lev Yashin,
Zico to Michel Platini, there
areaplethoraof namesthat
one can recount. But when
it comes to the list of the
greatest of them all, they
are all dwarfed by two
names,Brazil’sPeleandAr-

that rare and elite list of all.

now Argentina’s “Messi-
ah”. Lionel Messi is ‘D10S’
(DIOS), a combination of
the Spanish word for “God”
with the No. 10 on his jersy
.
Before the 2022 World Cup,
Messi had only scored six
World Cup goals - meaning
he more than doubled his
tally from his previous four
tournaments combined.
The Argentina captain
was part of the national
team that lost to Germany
1-0 in the 2014 final, but the
magic he produced game
in, game out during his
peak years for Barcelona
never seemed to translate
when wearing the blue and
white stripes of his coun-

. He has now surpassed
Pele with 13 goals at World
Cups and is tied for fourth
with Just Fontaine on the
all-time list. His seven in
this year’s tournament
surpassed Maradona’s five
at the 1986 edition in Mex-

a relief to millions of

he UK is facing
a winter of dis-

Prime Minister Rishi Su-
nak. Major trade unions
have threatened to cripple
work demanding pay
hikes. The earlier instance
of such a massive strike
was in December 1979 dur-
ing the rule of Margaret
Thatcher. It will be unfair
to blame workers, includ-
ing those from the health
sector, for their drastic
step as the inflation is at an
all-time high and the cost
of living has gone through
the roof. The energy crisis
because of the conflict be-
tween Russia and Ukraine
has made life tougher. In
line with Thatcher’s ap-
proach, Rishi Sunak is pre-
paring to foil the strike by
considering deploying an
army if needed.
Most of the unions
which have threatened to
go on strike are mainly
from the public sector like
National Health Service
unions of nursing, junior
doctors, ambulance crews,
midwives and physiothera-
pists. Railway workers
struck work. The country
is faced with travel chaos
this month with passport
and border check staff go-
ing on strike unless Sunak
and his Chancellor Jeremy
Hunt agree to the workers
demand for a pay hike,
chances of which are re-
mote as the economy is in
recession.
The strikers are facing
both criticism and support
from the public. The criti-
cism is on account of
large-scale disruptions the
strike would cause but
those aware of the hard-
ships being faced by the
working class because of
the unaffordable cost of
living are sympathetic to-
wards them. The govern-
ment is refusing to give
pay hikes saying that it
will further fuel inflation.
For Rishi Sunak these are
testing times.

New Delhi: Congress’
Bharat Jodo Yatra is
now about to reach Del-
hi border. The yatra, led
by Rahul, will reach
Delhi on December 24
and take a week’s rest.
After that, the yatra
will start again on Jan-
uary 2 or 3 and will go to
Haryana, Punjab and
then Jammu and Kash-
mir via Ghaziabad. So,
the responsibility of
Rahul’s visit for the
next few days is going to
fall on Haryana leader
Bhupinder Singh Hoo-
da. There is a big pro-
gram to welcome Ra-
hul’s visit in Delhi and
the responsibility is
also on him. Apart from
this, for the duration of
the journey in Haryana,
he will have to make
better arrangements
than in Madhya
Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Even when the Yatra
reaches Punjab, his re-
sponsibility will not
end. Keep in mind that
whatever program is
organized by Cong in
Delhi and NCR, respon-
sibility of gathering
crowd and making all
other arrangements re-
mains with Hooda.
However, prepara-
tions are also being
made in the All India
Congress Committee to
organize a big program
on the arrival of Bharat
Jodo Yatra in Delhi.
The Congress party has
called a meeting on De-
cember 23 to discuss its
preparations. In it, all
the party’s general sec-
retaries, secretaries,
state in-charges, state
presidents and leaders
of the Congress Legisla-
ture Party in the As-
sembly have been
called. It is being told
that all these leaders
will be present in the
Congress visit on 24th
December. Keep in
mind that Congress has
lost badly in the recent
municipal elections in
Delhi. In the last two as-
sembly and two Lok
Sabha elections, the
party could not even
open its account. For
this, the party is mak-
ing all-out efforts and
along with Delhi, the
leaders of Haryana and
Raj have been engaged.
Rahul’s Yatra is now Hooda’s responsibility!

New Delhi: The speed
with which CM of the
Congress took oath in
Himachal Pradesh was
a unique thing from the
point of view of the
Congress. Congress'
own previous record
shows that the party
took so much time to

many states that the

time the party did not
take such a risk. The
election results came

yet a day later, on Mon-

in Gujarat all the minis-

along with the Chief
Minister and portfolios
were also distributed
among them. The BJP
administered the oath
of the government with
full preparation. On the
contrary, in Himachal
Pradesh everything
stopped after the oath
of Chief Minister and
Deputy Chief Minister.
It has been a week
since the Chief Minis-
ter was sworn in and it
is not certain when his
government will take
oath. Right now the gov-
ernment of Chief Min-

is not a new thing. Just

Icra revises banking
sector outlook to
‘positive’
Mumbai (PTI): Domestic
rating agency Icra on Mon-
day upped its banking sec-
tor outlook to ‘positive’ on
healthy asset growth, im-
proving asset quality and
stronger capital buffers.
The agency expects asset
quality to improve to a dec-
adal best of 4% from a gross
NPAs perspective by the
end of FY24.
The banking system’s
credit growth will slow
down to 11-11.6% in FY24,
after a very healthy growth
of 15.2-16.1% expected in
FY23, the rating agency
said. A bulk of the credit
growth story will be led by
state-owned lenders which
are in far better shape now
having recognised and pro-
vided for loan losses and
also after some capital infu-
sions, it said, adding that
the market share gains for
private sector lenders will
slow down. Public sector
lenders will witness a cred-
it growth of 13.4-14.1% in
FY23 and 9.5-10.1% in FY24,
the agency estimated, add-
ing that the same for pri-
vate sector banks will be
14.5-15.5% and 12.6-13.5%.

here are sev-
eral alterna-
tives availa-
ble when
looking for a
dress to wear
on a night
out. It might be hard to
attempt to narrow
down your options on
your own because dif-
ferentclothesworkbet-
ter for different body
shapes, climates, and
events. If you want to
add extra glamour to
your appearance then
you can go with a stun-
ning strapless outfit.
A strapless dress or
top has no apparent
shoulder straps or oth-
er forms of support,
yet it nonetheless fits
snugly around the up-
per torso. The internal
corset and/or bras-
siere are typically
used to support the
dress, and the tight-
ness of the bodice pre-
vents the garment
from falling out of
place.
Strapless fashion
was born when wom-
en’s clothes got more
open-minded in the
1960s and it became
more popular and ac-
ceptable to expose
skin. Today, strapless
dresses can also incor-
porate elements from
other dress types, such
as belts, fitted bodices,
and long, flowing
skirts like in maxi
dresses. International
fashion designers in-
cluding Christian
Dior, Alexander Mc-
Queen, and Stella Mc-
Cartney all include
strapless pieces in
their designs.
In recent years, sev-
eral celebrities have
been photographed
donning strapless
gowns. Gisele, a Brazil-
ian fashion model, was
one of them and she
was dressed in a long,
flowing white dress by
Christian Dior.
There are a tonne of
alternatives available
for the strapless fash-
ion to add to your
closet if you’re
ready to incorpo-
rate the trend into
your wardrobe.
There are so
many interesting
strapless designs
that designers are
embracing right
now, from sculp-
tural minidresses
to chic maxis.
Apart from styling
a straoless dress
the difficulties of
wearing a strapless
dress are
numerous. Depend-
ing on the situation,
if you style it cor-
rectly, the appear-
ance would have the
desired style.

EFFECTIVELY KEEP YOUR FEET WARM AND DRY THIS WINTER SEASON!

and also keep your feet (and
hands) warm and soft, how
would you feel? Elated, right?
WEAR A WARMER SHOE:
Give your feet a head-start by
keeping your shoes indoors
where it is warmer.
WEAR SHOES DESIGNED
FOR YOUR ACTIVITY AND
WEATHER: Avoid mesh run-
ning shoes. Instead, wear a hik-
ing boot or trail shoe and some-
thing with a thicker sole, is wa-
ter resistant or has water-proof
features, especially around the
toes and lower sides of the shoe.
WEAR A THICKER SOCK:
Aim for wool or synthetic fiber
socks rather than cotton, which
can absorb moisture quickly,
dry slowly and pull heat away
from your skin, making it a fab-
ric to avoid when there might be
snow involved.
WATERPROOF CLOTHING:
If you’re going to be in cold con-
ditions for an extended period
of time, consider adding a liner
between your sock layers, or
even using plastic bags.
MOVE YOUR BODY:Startingto
feel cold, walk faster, ski faster,
runfaster,doafewjumpingjacks.
Physical activity increases body
heat and helps to get the blood

whichalleviatesthatcoldfeeling.
Remember that if you use toe
warmers or do warm water
soaks, then you’ll want to make
sure the toe warmer or water is
not too hot as you can easily
burn yourself. If you have neu-
ropathy then you need to check
the temperature with your
hand or forearm first, as you
cannot rely on your feet to tell
you if it is too hot.
Don’t let cold feet keep you
indoors during the winter.
There is more to winter walking
than just the treadmill. But
your toes can get painfully cold,
and you may even risk frostbite
in bitter weather. You want to
avoid getting sweaty feet, as that
puts you at risk of developing a
blister. You can protect your feet

The supplemen- tary demand presented by Deputy CMDevendra Fadnavis, who also holds the finance portfo- lio, has a sum of Rs 3,200 earmarked for compen- sation to farmers affect- ed by unseasonal rains. The Rs 8,945 crore allot- ted to the UDD assumes significance as the terms of several civic bodies have ended and polls are due. The Rural Develop- ment Dept has been giv- en Rs 5,579 crore, while Rs 1,000 crore has been earmarked for basic in- frastructure in rural ar- eas and a similar amount has been allo- cated for the Hinduhri- day Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Nagpur- Mumbai Expressway . 'REVOLUTIONARY' Border dispute, naxal threat heats up the political temperature in House First India Bureau Nagpur: The first day of the winter session of the Maharashtra Legis- lative Assembly began with an uproar by the opposition, with MLAs of the Mahavikas Agha- di holding placards pro- testing in the Vidhan Bhavan premises over the Maharashtra-Kar- nataka border dispute MLAs of NCP, Con- gress and Uddhav Bala- saheb Thackeray Shiv Sena joined the protest. Leader of Opposition Ajit Pawar raised the is- sue of the border dis- pute in the Assembly and said “A Lok Sabha member from Maha- rashtra has been stopped from entering Belagaum. In a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah it was de- cided that no one would be stopped from going there, then how can the collector there take such a decision.” Responding to the is- sue raised by Pawar, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “For the first time the Home Minister of the country mediated the border dispute, he has taken this issue seriously . We have presented the side of the border residents to him. Amit Shah has put forth his point in front of the border dis- pute. Now there should be no politics on the border dispute. We should stand together with the border resi- dents.” Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Deven- dra Fadnavis aligned with CM Shinde’s re- marks and said that the government will look into the matter. Notably, after the House adjourned for the day , Deputy CM Fad- navis spoke to reporters in the Vidhan Bhavan complex, and address- ing the blackade of Ma- harashtra Turn to P6 1ST DAY OF MAHARASHTRA ASSEMBLY'S WINTER SESSION Home Minister has mediated the border dispute, taking this issue seriously, Shinde said Nagpur: Maharashtra Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said a political party was behind a sudden surge in the passing of resolutions by some villages in the border areas seeking to join Karnataka and Tel- angana. Speaking at a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) function in Nagpur, Fadnavis, who holds the Home portfolio, cited intelligence input to say workers of a political party in those villages held such meetings with an intention to defame the Maharashtra govt. “There has been a surge in resolutions being passed by some villages in (border areas) of Maharash- tra over the last few weeks seeking to merge with neighbouring Karnataka and Telangana. I am also a home minister and asked intelligence officials to find out the truth behind it. It was evident that workers of a particular political party in those villages held such meetings to defame the state government”, he said. “Political party behind border villages resolving to join K’taka and Telangana” Maha govt presents supplementary demand of `52,327 crore First India Bureau Pune: Social activist Anna Hazare on Mon- day said the proposed Lokayukta Act in Maha- rashtra on lines of Cen- tre’s Lokpal legislation will be a “revolution- ary” tool to fight against corruption. I told them this Act will prove revolutionary to fight against corruption in the state,” said Hazare. The 85-year-old anti- corruption crusader said he had held several agitations and indefi- nite hunger strikes seeking the Lokayukta Act. “In 2018, I sat on a hunger strike in Ram- leela Maidan in Delhi. The then CM Fadnavis had promised to enact the (Lokayukta) act in the state but later that promise was not kept. Besides the previous Fadnavis-led govern- ment, I had also asked its successor Uddhav Thackeray-led govern- ment to introduce this law but they also didn’t do anything,” Hazare told reporters at Rale- gan Siddhi village in Ahmednagar district. • 2. First India Bureau Nagpur: Chief Minis- ter Eknath Shinde on Monday said in the Ma- harashtra Assembly the state should stand firm- ly behind people in the Marathi-speaking areas of neighbouring Karna- taka. He also appealed to political parties not to behave in a way that would hurt them. He was addressing the state Assembly on the first day of the Ma- harashtra Legisla- ture’s Winter Session in Nagpur. Deputy Chief Minis- ter Devendra Fadnavis said the state govern- ment will initiate a spe- cial programme for the development of villages located along the bor- der and resolve their pending issues. The state govern- ment was making ef- forts for the release of the people and leaders detained in Karnataka, he said amid the ongo- ing boundary dispute between the two states. Raising the issue in the Assembly , Leader of Opposition Ajit Pawar said Shiv Sena MP Dhairyasheel Mane (of the Shinde faction) was stopped from entering Belagavi in Karnataka, despite the intervention of Union Home Minis- ter Amit Shah in the boundary dispute. Responding to it, Shinde said there can be no dispute over the fact that the issue raised by Pawar is important in terms of Maharashtra. “For the first time, the Union home minis- ter intervened in the matter and mediated. He called a meeting and this has happened for the first time. He has taken the matter seri- ously,” said the CM. “We should stand by the people residing in border areas, back their struggle and act in a way that does not hurt them,” he added. Shinde said the state government urged the Centre that this issue is related to the self-re- spect of Maharashtra and that it should take a firm stand in the favour of Maharashtra and people residing in the border areas. “We said vehicles from Maharashtra are vandalized and at- tacked. This is not in sync with law and order and democracy. Such things should not hap- pen because there could be a reaction to an ac- tion,” the CM said. The Union home min- ister also gave instruc- tions that such things shouldnothappensince the matter is (pending) before the Supreme Court, Shinde said. Speakingtothemedia in the Vidhan Bhavan complex here, Chavan asked why the Maha- rashtra government was silent in the matter and said it seemed the state government was helping Karnataka to brush aside the contro- versy over the issue of the ‘fake’ Twitter ac- count from which “pro- vocative comments” were made. The former chief minister added that the provocative language used in the tweets was objectionable. “It was clarified that the Twitter handle was fake. But the handle was active since Janu- ary 2015 and has been verified by Twitter. Till now, the official deci- sions taken by the Kar- nataka government are posted on that handle,” Chavan said. CM Eknath Shinde last week said tweets in the name of his Karna- taka counterpart claim- ing some areas of Maha- rashtra were not actu- ally posted by Bommai. On this Chavan said, “The Maharashtra gov- ernment is being mis- led over the fake Twit- ter handle issue,” he alleged. Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, the south Mumbai MP also called for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s intervention in the matter and demanded protection to Maha- rashtra Ekikaran Samiti’s leaders follow- ing Karnataka Police’s action against some of them during a protest in Belagavi. Sawant described the Belagavi district ad- ministration’s move as an “insult” to the home minister, saying it came close on the heels of Shah advising Kar- nataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and his Maharashtra coun- terpart Eknath Shinde on resolving the bound- ary dispute between the two states. “The ban on the en- try of leaders from Ma- harashtra is an attack on the Constitution. The worst is that our home minister is being insulted by non-compli- ance with the advice that he gave to the chief ministers of Karnata- ka and Maharashtra for maintaining peace,” Sawant said. Mane was recently appointed as the chief of an expert committee formed by the Maha- rashtra government re- garding a writ petition in the Supreme Court on the border dispute with neighbouring state Karnataka. He had requested the Belagavi administra- tion to make arrange- ments for his visit to the city. However, the district authorities banned his entry, say- ing a “possible inflam- matory speech” by him might create law and order problems. “Karnataka chief minister is not follow- ing his (Shah’s) advice. We vehemently con- demn it and demand that the Union Home Minister immediately intervene,” Sawant said. New recruits are brought from Odis- ha and Chhattisgarh, he added. Speaking in the Ma- harashtra Assembly during on the first day of the Winter Session, Fadnavis, who is also the state home minister, said his stand remains the same as was of for- mer Home Minister RR Patil, who acted tough against the left-wing ex- tremism. “Today, the youth of Gadchiroli are not join- ing the Naxal dalams. They have to bring re- cruits from Chhattis- garh and Odisha,” said Fadnavis. He was replying to queries raised by oppo- sition members over Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Dhar- amrao Atram getting threats from Naxalites demanding stopping of the Surjagarh mining project in Gadchiroli district. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly and NCP MLA Ajit Pawar demanded that Atram’s security be enhanced in view of the threat. NCP leader Dilip Walse-Patil said, “Naxalites have started activities to stop the mining project and steps should be taken to ensure nothing of that sort happens.” He said the project gives em- ployment to over 4,000 people. However, Congress MLA Nana Patole took a contrary stand. He said the Naxal move- ment was gaining strength due to the Sur- jagarh mining project. “Do not take this lightly . I want to keep it on record. The iron con- tent in the ore is 65% and the deposit could last for 300 years,” said Patole. They also condemned the ban imposed on MP Dhairyasheel Mane from entering Belagavi district in the neigh- bouring state. Talking to reporters in the Vidhan Bhavan complex here, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ajit Pawar said there was a meet- ing of the Maharash- tra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) on Monday wherein some leaders and other people from Maharashtra were stopped by the Karna- taka government. “Shiv Sena MP Dhair- yasheel Mane was not allowed to enter Bela- gavi. We condemn this incident,” said the Na- tionalist Congress Par- ty (NCP) leader. Pawar also demand- ed the government should collect informa- tion on this and inform the House about it. Go Argentina! we are seeing each other very soon,” Messi captioned a photo after winning n a sport that produces su- perstars every year, what does it take to get immortal- ised as one of the greats for posterity?Theanswercould beverysimpleandyetquite complicated. In today’s day and age, when every move and tackle made, every pass completed and every goal scored makes it to the hand- sets of millions of football fans within seconds, it sure could be easy to become popular in the world’s most popular sport. Over the years, there have been sev- eral stars who have pro- duced greatness on the greens, from Alfredo de Ste- fano to Johan Cryuff, Fer- enc Puskas to Lev Yashin, Zico to Michel Platini, there areaplethoraof namesthat one can recount. But when it comes to the list of the greatest of them all, they are all dwarfed by two names,Brazil’sPeleandAr- gentina’s Diego Maradona. This is because apart from the exemplary skills and achievements that the two could boast of, leading their respective countries to the WorldCuptitleensuredthat their names have been writ- tenintheannalsof football- inghistoryingoldenletters. On Sunday , December 18, 2022, another name joined that rare and elite list of all. Lionel Messi, not that his silkendribblingskills,innu- merable goals at club and internationallevel, werenot enough to earn him a leg- endary status, but a World Cup win was just the stamp thatheneededtobecomean all-timegreat.Themagician himself wasattheforefront, scoring 7 times in the tour- nament, including two strikes in the see-saw final encounter against defend- ing champions France. He shatteredseveralrecordsen route to the trophy that Ar- gentina has been pining for 36longyearssincethegreat El Diego had done it for them. Having emulated his idol at last, Messi is truely now Argentina’s “Messi- ah”. Lionel Messi is ‘D10S’ (DIOS), a combination of the Spanish word for “God” with the No. 10 on his jersy . Before the 2022 World Cup, Messi had only scored six World Cup goals - meaning he more than doubled his tally from his previous four tournaments combined. The Argentina captain was part of the national team that lost to Germany 1-0 in the 2014 final, but the magic he produced game in, game out during his peak years for Barcelona never seemed to translate when wearing the blue and white stripes of his coun- try . He has now surpassed Pele with 13 goals at World Cups and is tied for fourth with Just Fontaine on the all-time list. His seven in this year’s tournament surpassed Maradona’s five at the 1986 edition in Mex- ico. In what may come as a relief to millions of football fans across the world, Argentine tal- isman Lionel Mes- si has an- nounced that he will con- tinue to play football for Argentina. I OM SHARMA The writer is pursuing engineering from the University of Melbourne (Australia) t 35, Lionel Messi seems to be keen on enjoying the feeling of playing as the world champion for Argentina, some- thing that he has never done before in his long and decorated career. Major trade unions have threatened to cripple work demanding pay hikes. The earlier instance of such a massive strike was in December 1979 dur- ing the rule of Margaret Thatcher. It will be unfair to blame workers, includ- ing those from the health sector, for their drastic step as the inflation is at an all-time high and the cost of living has gone through the roof. The energy crisis because of the conflict be- tween Russia and Ukraine has made life tougher. In line with Thatcher’s ap- proach, Rishi Sunak is pre- paring to foil the strike by considering deploying an army if needed. Most of the unions which have threatened to go on strike are mainly from the public sector like National Health Service unions of nursing, junior doctors, ambulance crews, midwives and physiothera- pists. Railway workers struck work. The country is faced with travel chaos this month with passport and border check staff go- ing on strike unless Sunak and his Chancellor Jeremy Hunt agree to the workers demand for a pay hike, chances of which are re- mote as the economy is in recession. The strikers are facing both criticism and support from the public. The criti- cism is on account of large-scale disruptions the strike would cause but those aware of the hard- ships being faced by the working class because of the unaffordable cost of living are sympathetic to- wards them. The govern- ment is refusing to give pay hikes saying that it will further fuel inflation. For Rishi Sunak these are testing times. The yatra, led by Rahul, will reach Delhi on December 24 and take a week’s rest. After that, the yatra will start again on Jan- uary 2 or 3 and will go to Haryana, Punjab and then Jammu and Kash- mir via Ghaziabad. So, the responsibility of Rahul’s visit for the next few days is going to fall on Haryana leader Bhupinder Singh Hoo- da. There is a big pro- gram to welcome Ra- hul’s visit in Delhi and the responsibility is also on him. Apart from this, for the duration of the journey in Haryana, he will have to make better arrangements than in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Even when the Yatra reaches Punjab, his re- sponsibility will not end. Keep in mind that whatever program is organized by Cong in Delhi and NCR, respon- sibility of gathering crowd and making all other arrangements re- mains with Hooda. However, prepara- tions are also being made in the All India Congress Committee to organize a big program on the arrival of Bharat Jodo Yatra in Delhi. The Congress party has called a meeting on De- cember 23 to discuss its preparations. In it, all the party’s general sec- retaries, secretaries, state in-charges, state presidents and leaders of the Congress Legisla- ture Party in the As- sembly have been called. It is being told that all these leaders will be present in the Congress visit on 24th December. Keep in mind that Congress has lost badly in the recent municipal elections in Delhi. In the last two as- sembly and two Lok Sabha elections, the party could not even open its account. For this, the party is mak- ing all-out efforts and along with Delhi, the leaders of Haryana and Raj have been engaged. Rahul’s Yatra is now Hooda’s responsibility! Speaking at an event in Mumbai on Sunday, Bhagwat said, “If India does it by looking at America and China, it won’t be India’s devel- opment. It may be devel- opment, but then India will become like China and America, he said. “India’s development will happen based on its vision, the condi- tions and aspirations of its people, culture and our country’s out- look towards the world,” Bhagwat said. Talking about reli- gion, Bhagwat said, “A religion which makes man prosperous but destroys nature is not religion.” “If India becomes strong, we won’t wield the ‘danda’ (stick) as China and America do, but due to us those who wield the ‘danda’ will stop wielding them,” as- serted the RSS chief. It might be hard to attempt to narrow down your options on your own because dif- ferentclothesworkbet- ter for different body shapes, climates, and events. If you want to add extra glamour to your appearance then you can go with a stun- ning strapless outfit. A strapless dress or top has no apparent shoulder straps or oth- er forms of support, yet it nonetheless fits snugly around the up- per torso. The internal corset and/or bras- siere are typically used to support the dress, and the tight- ness of the bodice pre- vents the garment from falling out of place. Strapless fashion was born when wom- en’s clothes got more open-minded in the 1960s and it became more popular and ac- ceptable to expose skin. Today, strapless dresses can also incor- porate elements from other dress types, such as belts, fitted bodices, and long, flowing skirts like in maxi dresses. International fashion designers in- cluding Christian Dior, Alexander Mc- Queen, and Stella Mc- Cartney all include strapless pieces in their designs. In recent years, sev- eral celebrities have been photographed donning strapless gowns. Gisele, a Brazil- ian fashion model, was one of them and she was dressed in a long, flowing white dress by Christian Dior. There are a tonne of alternatives available for the strapless fash- ion to add to your closet if you’re ready to incorpo- rate the trend into your wardrobe. There are so many interesting strapless designs that designers are embracing right now, from sculp- tural minidresses to chic maxis. Apart from styling a straoless dress the difficulties of wearing a strapless dress are numerous. Depend- ing on the situation, if you style it cor- rectly, the appear- ance would have the desired style.
