GOVT REJECTS CRITICISM AGAINST
AGNIPATH, ISSUES CLARIFICATION
Central govt has increased age limit for recruitment this year, youth up to 23
years of age will be able to apply and also issued a clarification, asserting that not
only new model will bring in new capabilities to armed forces but will also open
up avenues for youth in pvt sector. Below are MYTHS & FACTS sheet issued
FUTURE OF AGNIVEERS INSECURE
l Those wishing to be entrepreneurs will
get a financial package and a bank loan
l Those wishing to study further will be
given certificates equivalent to class 12
l Those wishing to obtain jobs will be
given priority in CAPFs and State Police
OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH WILL
DECREASE AS A RESULT OF AGNIPATH
l Opportunities for the youth to serve in
the armed forces will increase. Soon,
recruitment of Agniveers will be tripled
REGIMENTAL BONDING WILL BE AFFECTED
l No change is being made to the Regi-
mental system. It will be further accentu-
ated as best Agniveers will be selected
THIS WILL HARM THE EFFECTIVENESS
OF THE ARMED FORCES
l Such short-term enlistment systems
exist in most countries and hence are
already tested out and considered best
practice for a youthful and agile army
l Agniveers to be recruited in the 1st year
would only make up 3% of armed forces
l Performance of Agniveers will be tested
before re-induction into army after 4 yrs
23-YEAR-OLDS ARE IMMATURE
AND UNRELIABLE FOR THE ARMY
l At no point in time will there be more
youngsters than experienced people. The
present scheme will only bring about the
right mix of 50%-50% youngsters and
experienced supervisory ranks
AGNIVEERS WILL BE A DANGER
TO SOCIETY & JOIN TERRORISTS
l This is an insult to the ethos and values
of the Indian armed forces
NO CONSULTATION WITH FORMER
ARMED FORCES OFFICERS
l Proposal has been framed by the
Department of Military Officers
l Many former officers have recognized
the advantages of the scheme and
welcomed it
AGNIPATH SCHEME
IS VERY POORLY
CONCEIVED: CONG
Congress said on
Thursday that Agnipath
scheme to recruit soldiers
into 3 defence forces, is
“controversial, carries
multiple risks, subverts the

of Agniveers appear to be
after-thoughts and show
that scheme is “poorly
conceived and hastily
drawn up”. He urged govt
to hold wide consultations
and address issues of qual-
ity, efficiency & economy.

Youth should be given the chance to serve the country their whole life, says Kejriwal
New Delhi (PTI): Del-
hi Chief Minister
Arvind Kejriwal on
Thursday came out in
support of defence job
aspirants protesting
against the Agnipath
scheme and appealed to
the central government
to give them the chance
to serve the country
throughout their life,
not just four years.
The Agnipath
scheme, announced on
Tuesday, seeks to re-
cruit soldiers in the
Army, Navy and the Air
Force on short-term
contract of four years.
“Appeal to the cen-
tral government: Youth
should be given the
chance to serve the
country their whole
life, not four years.
Those who became
overage due to lack of
recruitment in the
Army in the last two
years should also be
given a chance,” Kejri-
wal said in a tweet in
Hindi.
He added that the
youth are “unhappy”
and opposing the Ag-
nipath scheme across
the country
.
The move has drawn
the ire of defence job

in Bihar. More than a
dozen defence force as-
pirants on Thursday
stopped a train at Nan-
gloi Railway Station in
outer Delhi by lying
down on tracks.
“The central govern-
ment’s new scheme in
Army recruitment is
being opposed every-
where in the country.
The youth are very an-
gry. Their demands are
right. The Army is the
pride of our country,
our youth want to give
their whole life to the
country, don’t restrict
their dreams to 4
years,” Kejriwal said in
a series of tweets.
In Delhi, according to
police, around 15-20
people gathered at Nan-
gloi Railway Station
around 9.45 am to pro-
test against a delay in
railway recruitment ex-
aminations and also
against the Agnipath
scheme.

itics now, I can’t say about the
future, only time will decide,”
he said. Since last five to six
months, speculations about
Naresh Patel’s political venture
were doing the rounds after he expressed his desire
to join politics. All three leading parties Cong, BJP
and the AAP were trying to woo him. Patel, however,
keeping his cards close to his chest, used an excuse
that only after consulting community members.

der its jurisdiction, no

to have consumed tea worth Rs
83.88 billion in 2021-22. That
caused a huge drain on the coun-
try’s foreign exchange as tea im-
port in 2020-21 was worth Rs 70.82
billion. Although Pakistan is
likely to be removed from the Fi-
nancial Action Task Force “grey

around 20 percent in urban

in to set things right. Espe-

The government’s an-
nouncement did not give any
details of unemployment
numbers. Those figures were
provided by BJP MP Varun
Gandhi. “There are 60 lakh
‘sanctioned posts’ vacant in
the country if ‘government
figures’ are to be believed,”
he said in a tweet. Varun Gan-
dhi claimed that unemploy-
ment “is at its highest level in
3 decades”. If these numbers
are correct then 10 lakh re-
cruitments will be woefully
short of the real numbers.
The BJP has not reacted to
Varun Gandhi’s claim. How-
ever, according to the 2018-19
report on pay and allowances
of Central government em-
ployees there were 31.43 lakh

W
UNDERSTANDING
PAIN
ain is an everyday happen-
ing. Acute pain may be severe
but usually managed quickly
but chronic pain which is
quite common is very chal-
lenging to manage. Most of
the physicians fail to provide
significant relief despite
their best efforts. The first
problem is a precise diagno-
sis. Despite highly advanced
tools of investigation, accu-
rate diagnosis might evade in
a large number of cases. The
history given by the patient
tooismostlyconfusinghence,
it might not be easy to pin-
point the tissues involved.
Even the definition of chron-
ic pain is full of controversies
and differences of percep-
tions. For some physicians,
any pain which lasts more
than three months is chronic
pain while others are ada-
mant on pain of six months’
duration. A small group be-
lieves that any pain which
extends beyond normal tis-
sue healing time should be
considered as chronic pain.
As the tissues involved
might be muscle, nerve,
brain, bones, joints, liga-
ments or some internal or-
gans, it might not be possible
for a single general physician
to reach a final diagnosis. A
multidisciplinary approach
is needed and this costs a lot.
When so many specialists are
involved, the treatment be-
comes cumbersome and de-
pressing.
Chronic pain is a humon-
gous personal tragedy
. People
who suffer are mostly in a
depressed mood, the quality
of sleep is poor, fatigue is
overpowering and the power
to concentrate is lost. In a
large number of sufferers,
the libido is impacted which
may lead to excessive intake
of drugs and even alcohol.
Many times, the feeling of
dependence on other people
causes more suffering than
the impairment itself.
Loss of employment leads
to severe anxiety and mood
swings which may, ultimate-
ly
, lead to clinical depression.
In many cases, family life be-
comes negatively affected
and patients may become hy-
pochondriac and start doing
somatization of symptoms.
The management as told
earlier is frustrating. But
some relief can be provided
by medicines and physiother-
apy. Here again, it should be
very clear that painkillers
have significant side effects
and hence, should be consid-
ered only under guidance of
an experienced and updated
physician. Role of psycholo-
gy is very important though,
only few avail it due to igno-
rance and cost of treatment.

pain. One has to be psycholog-
ically very strong and coun-
selled to bear the suffering.

New Delhi: 75 sea
beaches will be cleaned
up across the country
for 75 days to mark Aza-
di Ka Amrit Mahotsav
commemorating 75th
year of the India’s in-
dependence. This was
disclosed by Union
Minister of State , Dr
Jitendra Singh who
chaired a meeting to
review preparations
for the upcoming “In-
ternational Coastal
Cleanup Day 2022” on
17th September, 2022 at
Prithvi Bhavan, Minis-
try of Earth Sciences
headquarters.
The Union Minister
said that the annual
event, which is organ-
ized on the 3rd Satur-
day of September every
year, is falling on 17th
September this year
which is, coincidental-
ly, the birthday of
Modi, who has been pi-
oneering the cause of
cleanliness (Swach-
hta), sea beach protec-
tion, environment and
climate protection in
all its forms.
Talking about the
uniqueness of this
year’s event, Dr. Jiten-
dra Singh said that it
will be the first-of-its-
kind and longest run-
ning coastal cleanup
campaign with highest
number of people par-
ticipating in it.
He said that the par-
ticipation of common
man is essential to
convey the message of
“Swachh Sagar,
Surakshit Sagar” for
prosperity of not only
coastal areas but also
other parts of country.
Singh also suggested
that other than coastal
regions, non-coastal re-
gions should also plan
to disseminate the mes-
sage to the local people
on the International
Coastal Cleanup Day
through environment
and climate change de-
partments / divisions
in various universi-
ties, colleges and other
institutions.
Hyderabad: The Rash-
triya Swayamsevak
Sangh chief Mohan
Bhagwat on Thursday
said that the student
bodies have always
been at the forefront in
Telangana. “There are
people who think that
they are the only ones
who are right, and eve-
ryone else is wrong.
When it goes against
them, they will try their
hardest to repress the
truth and justice. But
the truth does not die
through violence,” said
Bhagwat. He said that
RSS workers have sacri-
ficed a lot and it is be-
cause of their dedica-
tion that we are able to
establish an institution.
Sharat K Verma
Mumbai: Former Ma-
harashtra CM Deven-
dra Fadnavis has
avenged his insult. He
defeated the joint effort
of CM Uddhav Thack-
eray and NCP supremo
Sharad Pawar to win
the third BJP candidate
in the Rajya Sabha elec-
tions. Earlier, because
of Uddhav and Pawar,
Fadnavis had to resign
within four days of tak-
ing oath as the chief
minister. Since then he
was looking for a
chance to qual the
score. This time when
the BJP fielded a third
candidate at the behest
of Fadnavis, it seemed
that this time also the
ploy would not work in
front of Uddhav and Pa-
war. After all, Sharad
Pawar himself spoke to
the leaders of the Sama-
jwadi Party and took
two of their votes with
him and two votes of
Owaisi’s party were
also done in support of
the Cong. Yet another
Shiv Sena candidate
Sanjay Pawar lost the
election. The five Rajya
Sabha seats in Maha-
rashtra have been de-
cided by the first prefer-
ence vote. Two candi-
dates from BJP and one
each from Shiv Sena,
NCP and Cong won. The
real fight was for the
sixth seat, where Shiv
Sena’s Sanjay Pawar
was pitted against
BJP’s Dhananjay Ma-
hadik. Fadnavis en-
sured that this poll was
not decided by first
preference vote as he
knew he would win the
second preference
votes. For this, he got
the nine MLAs of small
parties supporting the
govt to cross-vote. The
main opposition BJP
has 106 MLAs of its own
and is supported by sev-
en other MLAs. The saf-
fron party received sup-
port of one MLA from
Raj Thackeray’s party
and won the support of
nine other MLAs. Fad-
navis was so confident
of winning the third
seat that he first allot-
ted 48 votes each to both
the candidates Piyush
Goyal and Anil Bonde,
while 41 votes were
needed to win one seat.
His third candidate got
27 first preference votes
and adding the second
preference votes, the to-
tal votes crossed the 41
vote mark easily

however remain in jail as she has several other
cases against her. The 29-year-old actor currently
has more than 20 police cases against her in con-
nection with the same post on Facebook. She has
been accused of defamation, printing or engraving
defamatory matter and promoting enmity between

Will there be a
Chautala family?
Mahesh Sharma
New Delhi: After the
results of the Rajya Sab-
ha elections in Haryana,
many possibilities are
being discussed, but an
important possibility
has arisen that the
Chautala family can
come together as one as
efforts are being made
in this regard for the
last few days.
Now it seems
that a con-
crete step has
been taken in
that direc-
tion. The lone
MLA of the
Indian Na-
tional Lok

Abhay Chau-
tala has cast
his vote for
independent candidate
KartikeyaSharma.This
initself isasignthatthe
campaign to unite the
Chautala family has
gone ahead. Keep in
mind that Karthikeya
Sharma was made a
candidate by the Jan-
nayak Janata Party,
which is part of the Har-
yana govt. He was an
independent but was
nominated by 10 JJP
MLAs.JannayakJanata
Party is led by Dushyant
Chautala, son of Ajay
Chautala, brother of
Abhay Chautala. Given
the kind of enmity that
existed in the Chautala
family until recently, it
was difficult to imagine
that Abhay Chautala
would vote for Dushyant
Chautala’s candidate.
Before voting, Bhupin-
der Singh Hooda and
Congress leaders were
confident that Abhay
Chautala would not vote
for anyone. But he voted
for the candidate sup-
ported by
D u s hya n t
Chautala.
After this
the possibil-
ity of com-
ing together
of both the
families has
increased. It
is being told
that as long
as Om-
p r a k a s h
Chautala was out of jail,
he kept trying to unite
the family
. But now that
he is in jail, efforts are
still underway
. One hur-
dle in that is about the
party leadership. Dush-
yant Chautala’s brother

hand, INLD leaders

main in the hands of

New Delhi (PTI): The
government is gearing
up to increase the
stock of coal at power
plants to 40 million
tonne (MT) during the
monsoon season, Un-
ion power minister R K
Singh said.
Speaking to PTI, the
minister said right
now, there are reserves
of around 22.9 MT at
the power plants.
“On April 1, our re-
serve stock at power
plants was at 24 MT. On
April 30, it came down
to 19 MT and on May
15, it came down to 15
MT. However, because
of (coal) imports, it
has gone up to about
22.9 MT again,” the
minister said, replying
to a question related to
coal availability
. When
asked if the govern-
ment is planning to in-
crease the buffer stock
of coal anticipating
production and supply
issues during the ap-
proaching rainy sea-
son, he replied in af-
firmative.
“This happens every
year during the rainy
season. The domestic
coal production falls.
So we are preparing
for that. During the
monsoon July-Septem-
ber, daily demand will
come down to 2.1 MT
because the tempera-
ture will drop. “But at
the same time domes-
tic coal supply will
also come down. So,
the gap will be increas-
ing. That’s why this
import is happening. I
believe the buffer
should be at least in
the range of 40 MT,”
the minister said.

New Delhi (PTI): India
will need an investment
of over $10 trillion to
achieve its net-zero
emission target by 2070,
a report said on Thurs-
day
.
Prime Minister Nar-
endra Modi had an-
nounced India’s zero
emission target to be
achieved by 2070 at
COP-26 (26th United Na-
tions Climate Change
Conference in 2021).
“India may require an
investment of over $10
trillion to achieve its
net-zero target by 2070,”
a joint white paper is-
sued by GE-EY said on
Thursday. It said that
India would continue to
rely on coal power, at
least in the near future.
Thus, the country needs
to focus on and incen-
tivise cleaner coal tech-
nology to further re-
duce carbon emissions.
The report further rec-
ommended policy initi-
atives “essential for a
future driven by sus-
tainable industries.”
To achieve the target,
India must overcome
import-dependence in
the energy sector
through measures that
incentivise domestic
production like the Pro-
duction Linked Incen-
tive (PLI) scheme, it
suggested.
Leveraging carbon
capture technologies
for the usage of coal-
based energy, which is
the largest source of
primary energy and is
domestically sourced,
besides encouraging
the promotion of green
hydrogen through de-
mand-side incentives
and policies to bring
down costs is also es-
sential to meet the goal.
“Most importantly,
create carbon markets
and incentives for the
adoption of clean ener-
gy technologies. India
also needs to undertake
several policy measures
to help deepen the green
bond market to facili-
tate financing,” it said.

Lockdowns in
China impacting
TaMo supply
New Delhi (PTI):
The recent lock-
downs in China have
adversely impacted
Tata Motors’ supply
chains as its suppli-
ers are unable to de-
liver products and it
could be forced to
stop production in
some or all of its
plants if it is unable
to ensure the supply
of critical parts from
the country
. Tata has
apprehensions that
the ongoing global
s e m i c o n d u c t o r
shortage may impact
it “more pronounc-
edly” than its com-
petitors, who may
have a greater level
of buying power
with suppliers or
have a different
range of features in
their vehicles.
“Recent lockdowns
in parts of China as
the govt pursues a
strategy of contain-
ing the spread of

versely impacting

able to produce or

INDIA HAS SCOPE TO PRODUCE
HYDROGEN FROM COAL: PANEL
New Delhi (PTI):
An expert panel con-
stituted by the gov-
ernment has suggest-
ed that India has
enough potential to
produce hydrogen
from domestic coal
and the country
should strongly pur-
sue this option. Hy-
drogen is a clean fuel
and can serve as a
possible substitute to
liquid and fossil fu-
els. It is also the most
abundant element in
the universe, making
up more than 90% of
all known matters.
“India has an oppor-
tunity to produce hy-
drogen from domes-
tic coal and we may
aggressively pursue
this option in our
overall hydrogen eco-
system,” the expert
committee said in its
report on roadmap
for coal to hydrogen
production. It also
suggested for setting
up of a couple of
semi-commercial
gasification units to
convert coal to hy-
drogen.
Mumbai (PTI): De-
spite the improve-
ment in asset quality,
financial institu-
tions, including
banks, need to proac-
tively undertake
stress testing of loan
books to examine
their loss absorption
limits and take steps
to improve them
wherever required,
Reserve Bank of In-
dia (RBI) Deputy Gov-
ernor M Rajeshwar
Rao said on Thursday.
The gross non-per-
forming assets (GN-
PAs) and net NPAs of
banks improved to
5.97 per cent and 1.7
per cent as of March
31, 2022, from 9.23 per
cent and 3.66 per cent
as of September 2019,
respectively, he said.
Although the asset
quality has improved
from the pre-pandem-
ic levels, lenders
should ascertain
whether this is on ac-
count of better funda-
mentals or due to the
regulatory support
extended to deal with
the impact of the pan-
demic, he noted.
“We expect banks
and other financial
institutions to proac-
tively undertake
stress testing of their
loan books, subject-
ing them to various
levels of stress, in-
cluding extreme sce-
narios, to estimate
the loss absorption
limits wherever avail-
able at their disposal,
and take measures to
augment the same
wherever necessary,”
Rao said at an event
organised by IMC
Chamber of Com-
merce and Industry.

Sensex, Nifty close at over 1-yr lows
Mumbai (PTI): Equity
indices faced heavy
drubbing on Thursday
after an initial rally,
with the Sensex tank-
ing 1,045.60 points amid
a largely bearish trend
overseas after the US
Federal Reserve hiked
rates by 75 basis points.
Across-the-board sell-
ing played havoc on the
headline indices, with
index majors Reliance

twins contributing
most to the decline.
Despite a smart rally
in morning trade, the
BSE benchmark failed
to hold on to the gains
and plummeted 1,045.60
points or 1.99 per cent to
settle at 51,495.79 -- its
fifth day of decline.
During the day, it
tumbled 1,115.91 points
or 2.12 per cent to its
one-year low of

On similar lines, the
NSE Nifty plunged
331.55 points or 2.11 per
cent to close at 15,360.60.
New York (AP): US
markets appear headed
for a sharply lower open
on Thursday, one day
after the Federal Re-
serve raised its key in-
terest rate by three-
quarters of a point and
signalled more rate
hikes were coming to
fight inflation. Central
banks in Europe are fol-
lowing along, including
a surprise rate hike
Thursday in Switzer-
land, a nation that has
left interest rates un-
changed for years. Fu-
tures for the Dow Jones
industrials tumbled
1.7% and futures for the
S and P 500 skidded
2.1%. European bench-
marks and most Asian
markets also fell, as did
the price of oil. Shares
in New York rallied
Wednesday afternoon
after the Fed’s hike, the
biggest since 1994, as
investors initially took
heart from Chair Je-
rome Powell’s com-
ments suggesting fu-
ture rate increases may
be more modest.

Rich nations hit brakes on climate aid to poor at UN talks
Berlin (AP): Rich
countries including the
European Union and
the United States have
pushed back against ef-
forts to put financial
help for poor nations
suffering the devastat-
ing effects of global
warming firmly on the
agenda for this year’s
UN climate summit.
Observers and cam-
paigners attending a
ten-day preparatory
meeting in Bonn, Ger-
many, that’s wrapping
up Thursday ex-
pressed frustration at
the resistance shown
by developed nations
to formally discussing
how poor countries
can get more aid when
they’re hit by climate
disasters.
Rich countries, par-
ticularly the EU, spiked
the discussion about
loss and damage at eve-
ry single turn,” said
Teresa Anderson of the
campaign group Ac-
tionAid International.
Delegates from de-
veloping countries had
hoped growing aware-
ness of the severe eco-
nomic cost that global
warming is already
having for billions of
people around the
world would help move
the needle on an issue
that has long split rich
and poor nations.
Those hopes were
fuelled last month,
when officials from the
Group of Seven lead-
ing economies for the
first time acknowl-
edged the need for
more public and pri-
vate money to avert

The meeting in

Whether it was
about setting up a new

even just including the

later this year, rich

Pakistan trying to bleed India
with a thousand cuts: Rajnath
The Defence Minister arrived in Srinagar on a 2-day visit to review the security situation
Srinagar (PTI): De-
fence Minister Rajnath
Singh on Thursday said
Pakistan is continuous-
ly trying to disturb
peace in Jammu and
Kashmir through its ap-
proach of bleed India
with a thousand cuts,
but warned that a befit-
ting reply will be given
if attempt is made to
hurt the unity and in-
tegrity of the nation.
“Our neighbour has
always resorted to anti-
India activities. The
state also witnessed ter-
ror activities in the past.
Pakistan continuously
tries to disturb peace in
the country through its
approach of bleed India
with a thousand cuts,”
Singh said while ad-
dressing security forces
in Baramulla district.
Rajnath arrived here on
a two-day visit to review
the security situation in
the Union Territory
.
Singh, however, as-
sured the nation that if
an attempt is ever made
to hurt the unity and
integrity of the country
,
the armed forces will
give a befitting reply
.
Lauding the security
forces, he said there has
been a significant de-
cline in the number of
terror activities in JK
recently due to the re-
lentless efforts of the
personnel of armed
forces, BSF, CRPF and
JK Police.
Our security forces
are such a protective
shield for this country
that whoever tries to
break it, bleeds himself.
The nation has im-
mense faith in our forc-
es who are always ready
to deal with any situa-
tion, Singh added.
The Defence Minister
also visited the forward
areas and took stock of
the security situation
along the border.
Irpin (Ukraine)
(AP): Four European
leaders made a high-
profile visit to show
their support for
Ukraine on Thursday,
denouncing the bru-
tality of the Russian
invasion as they sur-
veyed the ruins of a
Kyiv suburb that was
the scene of intense
fighting early in the
war and where many
civilians were killed.
After arriving in
Kyiv to the sound of
air raid sirens, the
leaders of France,
Germany, Italy and
Romania headed to
Irpin, which was
seized and briefly
held by Russian
troops along with oth-
er areas near the capi-
tal. Mass graves have
been unearthed in the
area, most notably in
Bucha, and French
President Emmanuel
Macron decried the
massacres and said
there were signs of
war crimes.
He denounced the
barbarism of the at-
tacks that devastated
Irpin, and praised the
courageof itsresidents
and others in the re-
gionwhohelpedthwart
Russia’s attempt to
overrun the capital.
The visit, which in-
cluded a meeting
with President Volo-
dymyr Zelenskyy,
carries heavy sym-
bolic weight since the
three Western Euro-
pean powers have
faced criticism for
continuing to engage
with Russian Presi-
dent Vladimir Putin
- and failing to pro-
vide Ukraine with
the scale of weapon-
ry that it has said is
necessary to fend off
the Russians.

reservations in this re-

In a series of tweets,
Gehlot said, “It is a not
prudent decision to
make contractual re-

institution like the
army. The army was
kept free from non-polit-
ical and financial shack-
les till now. On one
hand, it was argued that
the New Pension

implemented in the
army only so that the
soldiers could contrib-
ute without worrying
about the future. Agnee-
path scheme is playing
with the future of youth
and the security of the
country. Thousands of
youths of Rajasthan
join the army to serve
the country
. There is an-
ger and resentment
among lakhs of youth
of India including Ra-

the way the youth are
protesting in anger all
over the country, the
Central Government
should withdraw this
scheme without any de-

. I appeal to the youth
not to take the path of
violence in protest.”
Meanwhile, echoing
his sentiments, on the
same lines as Gehlot, for-

THE PAIN PASSES,
BUT THE BEAUTY
REMAINS!
amed for his
a l l u r i n g
nudes and
enchanting
scenes of
pretty wom-
en, Auguste
Renoir was a far
more complex and
thoughtful painter
than generally as-
sumed. He was a
founding member of
the Impressionist
movement, however,
he ceased to display
with the group after
1877. From the 1880s
until well into the
twentieth century, he
developed a monu-
mental, classically
inspired style that
influenced such
avant-garde giants as
Pablo Picasso. This
French artist has
lived an idiosyncrat-
ic life, after the string
of rejections by the
conservative Salon
de Paris, he along
with his fellow artist
friends formed an
Anonymous Society
of Painters, Sculp-
tors and Engravers,
later known as the
Impressionists.
These like-minded
people mounted their
first Impressionist
exhibition in 1874,
during this exhibi-
tion, he showcased
his six impressive
impressionist paint-
ings! The Impres-
sionists, as they were
called, sought to cap-
ture modern life, and
Renoir’s works from
this period focused
on everyday people.
Though Renoir be-
gan his artistic ca-
reer as a porcelain
painter; nonetheless,
his ambitions to be-
come a professional
artist encouraged
him to pursue other
instruction.
This independent
artist with his new-
found financial free-
dom tried his hands
on other artistic di-
rection as well. After
showcasing his de-
sired arts in 2-3 con-
tinuous exhibitions,
he became one of the
most successful and
most famous artists
of that time, his eve-
ry art expressed
scepticism about the
durability of the Im-
pressionist aesthetic
and richness of emo-
tion and a warmth of
response to the world
its people. His first
painting in this vein,
Luncheon of the
Boating Party exhib-
its a new solidity and
clarity in the depic-
tion of the figures
and their placement
within space, espe-
cially when com-
pared to Moulin de la
Galette. After run-
ning a successful
movement, by the
mid-1880s he broke
the independent art
movement to learn a
more disciplined and
formal approach to
art and mainly Wom-
en’s art. His most
iconic painting from
this period, Dance at
the Moulin de la Gal-
ette (Musée d’Orsay,
Paris), explores dap-
pled light as it flut-
ters over young
Montmartre revelers
flirting, drinking,
and dancing.
Renoir’s inclina-
tion for portraiture
attracted the atten-
tion of a range of
patrons with avant-
garde sensibilities.
From the politically
radical pastry cook
Eugène Murer to the
wealthy society lady
Madame Georges
Charpentier, Renoir
painted all of his pa-
trons with affection-
ate charm. One of
his most magnificent
and enterprising
portraits, the paint-
ing of Marguerite
Charpentier with
her children mixes a
modern informality
and intimacy with
the compositional
rigor of an old mas-
ter portrait. Reclin-
ing Nude is an excel-
lent example of his
painting style in the
mid-1880s. The mar-
ble or porcelainlike
figure is sharply de-
fined against an im-
pressionistically
brushed landscape.
The spatial relation-
ship between the
nude and the amor-
phous background is
deliberately unclear.
Renoir had shifted
his investigation of
the old masters from
linear classicism to
the coloristic tradi-
tions of Titian and
Rubens as well as the
unabashedly sensual
beauty of eight-
e e n t h - c e n t u r y
French art.
His finest example
of linear classicism
is Young Girl Bath-
ing, which exhibits
his softened touch.
His love for art took
him to a different
level, despite old age
and declining health,
Renoir persisted in
artistic experimenta-
tion. Even in the last
three decades of his
life when he was suf-
fering from severe
rheumatoid arthritis
he was found paint-
ing with the brush
tied to his wrists. His
love for art depicts
true emotions and
powerful affirmation
of his unmatchable
desires.
French magician, Renior was known for his
mesmerizing Impressionist movement. His
pure skills have given life to many
imaginary people. Let’s dive into the
amazing world of Renior!

BOYFRIEND
BLAZER
We all know that
fashion fads come
and go, but a styl-
ish boyfriend blaz-
er is something
that every lady
should have in her
closet. It’s a
foundational piece
that will allow you
to construct fool-
proof outfits that
are up to date.
OVERSIZED
SINGLE-
BREASTED
BLAZER
An oversized single-
breasted jacket is
the easiest garment
to put on, whether
casually with jeans
or dressed up for a
meeting. Layer over
anything from day-
time crop tops to
business shirts,
nighttime go-to
tops, weekend jeans
or festival boho
dresses. An over-
sized single-breast-
ed jacket is a versa-
tile piece that can be
worn in both the
city and the desert.
HOUNDSTOOTH
BLAZER
We adore tailored
coats that can be
dressed up. One of
them is a hound-
stooth blazer. Pair
with a t-shirt and
jeans or a
sweater and shorts
for everyday wear. It
will work well over a
similar skirt or with
a silk shirt and nar-
row pants for a more
boyish appeal when
you need to dress up.
TWEED BLAZER
When it comes to
wearing a blazer for
something special
throughout the day,
pretty and tweed are
the way to go. A
tweed blazer is not
just one of the sea-
son’s most fashion-
able blazers, but it’s
also ideal for a luxu-
rious tea party
.
WHITE BLAZER
A sleek white blaz-
er is a must-have
item for this sea-
son, and it will
work with shorts or
a slip dress long
into the summer.
You’ll enjoy how
versatile it is,
whether you wear it
with a similar bot-
tom or a contrast-
ing dress, skirt,
or shorts to cre-
ate different
outfits.

For some physicians, any pain which lasts more than three months is chronic pain while others are ada- mant on pain of six months’ duration. A small group be- lieves that any pain which extends beyond normal tis- sue healing time should be considered as chronic pain. As the tissues involved might be muscle, nerve, brain, bones, joints, liga- ments or some internal or- gans, it might not be possible for a single general physician to reach a final diagnosis. A multidisciplinary approach is needed and this costs a lot. When so many specialists are involved, the treatment be- comes cumbersome and de- pressing. Chronic pain is a humon- gous personal tragedy . People who suffer are mostly in a depressed mood, the quality of sleep is poor, fatigue is overpowering and the power to concentrate is lost. In a large number of sufferers, the libido is impacted which may lead to excessive intake of drugs and even alcohol. Many times, the feeling of dependence on other people causes more suffering than the impairment itself. Loss of employment leads to severe anxiety and mood swings which may, ultimate- ly , lead to clinical depression. In many cases, family life be- comes negatively affected and patients may become hy- pochondriac and start doing somatization of symptoms. The management as told earlier is frustrating. But some relief can be provided by medicines and physiother- apy. Here again, it should be very clear that painkillers have significant side effects and hence, should be consid- ered only under guidance of an experienced and updated physician. Role of psycholo- gy is very important though, only few avail it due to igno- rance and cost of treatment. Remember, thereisnomiracle in management of chronic pain. This was disclosed by Union Minister of State , Dr Jitendra Singh who chaired a meeting to review preparations for the upcoming “In- ternational Coastal Cleanup Day 2022” on 17th September, 2022 at Prithvi Bhavan, Minis- try of Earth Sciences headquarters. The Union Minister said that the annual event, which is organ- ized on the 3rd Satur- day of September every year, is falling on 17th September this year which is, coincidental- ly, the birthday of Modi, who has been pi- oneering the cause of cleanliness (Swach- hta), sea beach protec- tion, environment and climate protection in all its forms. Talking about the uniqueness of this year’s event, Dr. Jiten- dra Singh said that it will be the first-of-its- kind and longest run- ning coastal cleanup campaign with highest number of people par- ticipating in it. He said that the par- ticipation of common man is essential to convey the message of “Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar” for prosperity of not only coastal areas but also other parts of country. Singh also suggested that other than coastal regions, non-coastal re- gions should also plan to disseminate the mes- sage to the local people on the International Coastal Cleanup Day through environment and climate change de- partments / divisions in various universi- ties, colleges and other institutions. Hyderabad: The Rash- triya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said that the student bodies have always been at the forefront in Telangana. “There are people who think that they are the only ones who are right, and eve- ryone else is wrong. When it goes against them, they will try their hardest to repress the truth and justice. But the truth does not die through violence,” said Bhagwat. He said that RSS workers have sacri- ficed a lot and it is be- cause of their dedica- tion that we are able to establish an institution. Sharat K Verma Mumbai: Former Ma- harashtra CM Deven- dra Fadnavis has avenged his insult. He defeated the joint effort of CM Uddhav Thack- eray and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar to win the third BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha elec- tions. Earlier, because of Uddhav and Pawar, Fadnavis had to resign within four days of tak- ing oath as the chief minister. Since then he was looking for a chance to qual the score. This time when the BJP fielded a third candidate at the behest of Fadnavis, it seemed that this time also the ploy would not work in front of Uddhav and Pa- war. After all, Sharad Pawar himself spoke to the leaders of the Sama- jwadi Party and took two of their votes with him and two votes of Owaisi’s party were also done in support of the Cong. Yet another Shiv Sena candidate Sanjay Pawar lost the election. The five Rajya Sabha seats in Maha- rashtra have been de- cided by the first prefer- ence vote. Two candi- dates from BJP and one each from Shiv Sena, NCP and Cong won. The real fight was for the sixth seat, where Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Pawar was pitted against BJP’s Dhananjay Ma- hadik. Fadnavis en- sured that this poll was not decided by first preference vote as he knew he would win the second preference votes. For this, he got the nine MLAs of small parties supporting the govt to cross-vote. The main opposition BJP has 106 MLAs of its own and is supported by sev- en other MLAs. The saf- fron party received sup- port of one MLA from Raj Thackeray’s party and won the support of nine other MLAs. Fad- navis was so confident of winning the third seat that he first allot- ted 48 votes each to both the candidates Piyush Goyal and Anil Bonde, while 41 votes were needed to win one seat. His third candidate got 27 first preference votes and adding the second preference votes, the to- tal votes crossed the 41 vote mark easily . Mahesh Sharma New Delhi: After the results of the Rajya Sab- ha elections in Haryana, many possibilities are being discussed, but an important possibility has arisen that the Chautala family can come together as one as efforts are being made in this regard for the last few days. Now it seems that a con- crete step has been taken in that direc- tion. The lone MLA of the Indian Na- tional Lok Dal (INLD) Abhay Chau- tala has cast his vote for independent candidate KartikeyaSharma. This initself isasignthatthe campaign to unite the Chautala family has gone ahead. Keep in mind that Karthikeya Sharma was made a candidate by the Jan- nayak Janata Party, which is part of the Har- yana govt. He was an independent but was nominated by 10 JJP MLAs.JannayakJanata Party is led by Dushyant Chautala, son of Ajay Chautala, brother of Abhay Chautala. Given the kind of enmity that existed in the Chautala family until recently, it was difficult to imagine that Abhay Chautala would vote for Dushyant Chautala’s candidate. Before voting, Bhupin- der Singh Hooda and Congress leaders were confident that Abhay Chautala would not vote for anyone. But he voted for the candidate sup- ported by D u s hya n t Chautala. After this the possibil- ity of com- ing together of both the families has increased. It is being told that as long as Om- p r a k a s h Chautala was out of jail, he kept trying to unite the family . But now that he is in jail, efforts are still underway . One hur- dle in that is about the party leadership. Dush- yant Chautala’s brother Digvijay Chautala says thatif JJPandINLDare one, then command of party will be in the hands of his father, Ajay Chautala. On the other hand, INLD leaders want that Dushyant is Dy CM, so the command of the party should re- main in the hands of Abhay Chautala. Speaking to PTI, the minister said right now, there are reserves of around 22.9 MT at the power plants. “On April 1, our re- serve stock at power plants was at 24 MT. On April 30, it came down to 19 MT and on May 15, it came down to 15 MT. However, because of (coal) imports, it has gone up to about 22.9 MT again,” the minister said, replying to a question related to coal availability . When asked if the govern- ment is planning to in- crease the buffer stock of coal anticipating production and supply issues during the ap- proaching rainy sea- son, he replied in af- firmative. “This happens every year during the rainy season. The domestic coal production falls. So we are preparing for that. During the monsoon July-Septem- ber, daily demand will come down to 2.1 MT because the tempera- ture will drop. “But at the same time domes- tic coal supply will also come down. So, the gap will be increas- ing. That’s why this import is happening. I believe the buffer should be at least in the range of 40 MT,” the minister said. Prime Minister Nar- endra Modi had an- nounced India’s zero emission target to be achieved by 2070 at COP-26 (26th United Na- tions Climate Change Conference in 2021). “India may require an investment of over $10 trillion to achieve its net-zero target by 2070,” a joint white paper is- sued by GE-EY said on Thursday. It said that India would continue to rely on coal power, at least in the near future. Thus, the country needs to focus on and incen- tivise cleaner coal tech- nology to further re- duce carbon emissions. The report further rec- ommended policy initi- atives “essential for a future driven by sus- tainable industries.” To achieve the target, India must overcome import-dependence in the energy sector through measures that incentivise domestic production like the Pro- duction Linked Incen- tive (PLI) scheme, it suggested. Leveraging carbon capture technologies for the usage of coal- based energy, which is the largest source of primary energy and is domestically sourced, besides encouraging the promotion of green hydrogen through de- mand-side incentives and policies to bring down costs is also es- sential to meet the goal. “Most importantly, create carbon markets and incentives for the adoption of clean ener- gy technologies. India also needs to undertake several policy measures to help deepen the green bond market to facili- tate financing,” it said. Tata has apprehensions that the ongoing global s e m i c o n d u c t o r shortage may impact it “more pronounc- edly” than its com- petitors, who may have a greater level of buying power with suppliers or have a different range of features in their vehicles. “Recent lockdowns in parts of China as the govt pursues a strategy of contain- ing the spread of COVID-19 are ad- versely impacting our supply chains as our suppliers are un- able to produce or deliver products to us,” Tata Motors. INDIA HAS SCOPE TO PRODUCE HYDROGEN FROM COAL: PANEL New Delhi (PTI): An expert panel con- stituted by the gov- ernment has suggest- ed that India has enough potential to produce hydrogen from domestic coal and the country should strongly pur- sue this option. Hy- drogen is a clean fuel and can serve as a possible substitute to liquid and fossil fu- els. It is also the most abundant element in the universe, making up more than 90% of all known matters. “India has an oppor- tunity to produce hy- drogen from domes- tic coal and we may aggressively pursue this option in our overall hydrogen eco- system,” the expert committee said in its report on roadmap for coal to hydrogen production. It also suggested for setting up of a couple of semi-commercial gasification units to convert coal to hy- drogen. The gross non-per- forming assets (GN- PAs) and net NPAs of banks improved to 5.97 per cent and 1.7 per cent as of March 31, 2022, from 9.23 per cent and 3.66 per cent as of September 2019, respectively, he said. Although the asset quality has improved from the pre-pandem- ic levels, lenders should ascertain whether this is on ac- count of better funda- mentals or due to the regulatory support extended to deal with the impact of the pan- demic, he noted. “We expect banks and other financial institutions to proac- tively undertake stress testing of their loan books, subject- ing them to various levels of stress, in- cluding extreme sce- narios, to estimate the loss absorption limits wherever avail- able at their disposal, and take measures to augment the same wherever necessary,” Rao said at an event organised by IMC Chamber of Com- merce and Industry. ‘Banks should undertake stress testing of loan books’ JET FUEL PRICES HIKED BY 16%; TOUCH NEW RECORD New Delhi (PTI): Jet fuel prices on Thurs- day were hiked by the steepest ever 16% to catapult rates to an all- time high in step with hardening interna- tional oil rates. Observers and cam- paigners attending a ten-day preparatory meeting in Bonn, Ger- many, that’s wrapping up Thursday ex- pressed frustration at the resistance shown by developed nations to formally discussing how poor countries can get more aid when they’re hit by climate disasters. Rich countries, par- ticularly the EU, spiked the discussion about loss and damage at eve- ry single turn,” said Teresa Anderson of the campaign group Ac- tionAid International. Delegates from de- veloping countries had hoped growing aware- ness of the severe eco- nomic cost that global warming is already having for billions of people around the world would help move the needle on an issue that has long split rich and poor nations. Those hopes were fuelled last month, when officials from the Group of Seven lead- ing economies for the first time acknowl- edged the need for more public and pri- vate money to avert and address the ad- verse impacts of cli- mate change. The meeting in Bonn, which is home to the UN climate office, was designed to lay the foundations for the up- coming climate sum- mit in Egypt’s seaside resort of Sharm-el- Sheikh in November. Whether it was about setting up a new finance facility, provid- ing funds, organising technical support, or even just including the issue on the agenda for discussion at COP27 later this year, rich countries continued to block, block, block, said Anderson. Noting the drought- induced famine cur- rently threatening mil- lions in the Horn of Africa, she accused rich countries of a ter- rifying disconnect to the real world. Her comments ech- oed those of UN Secre- tary-General Antonio Guterres, who this week accused many governments of drag- ging their feet” on cli- mate action. Seasoned watchers of international cli- mate meetings had cautioned against ex- pecting delegates in Bonn to make any big progress on long- standing points of disagreement, particu- larly those that would entail big financial commitments. The window to prevent the worst impacts of the cli- mate crisis is clos- ing fast. ...The planet has already warmed by 1.2° C Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General Pakistan trying to bleed India with a thousand cuts: Rajnath The Defence Minister arrived in Srinagar on a 2-day visit to review the security situation Srinagar (PTI): De- fence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said Pakistan is continuous- ly trying to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir through its ap- proach of bleed India with a thousand cuts, but warned that a befit- ting reply will be given if attempt is made to hurt the unity and in- tegrity of the nation. “Our neighbour has always resorted to anti- India activities. The state also witnessed ter- ror activities in the past. Pakistan continuously tries to disturb peace in the country through its approach of bleed India with a thousand cuts,” Singh said while ad- dressing security forces in Baramulla district. Rajnath arrived here on a two-day visit to review the security situation in the Union Territory . Singh, however, as- sured the nation that if an attempt is ever made to hurt the unity and integrity of the country , the armed forces will give a befitting reply . Lauding the security forces, he said there has been a significant de- cline in the number of terror activities in JK recently due to the re- lentless efforts of the personnel of armed forces, BSF, CRPF and JK Police. Our security forces are such a protective shield for this country that whoever tries to break it, bleeds himself. After arriving in Kyiv to the sound of air raid sirens, the leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Romania headed to Irpin, which was seized and briefly held by Russian troops along with oth- er areas near the capi- tal. Mass graves have been unearthed in the area, most notably in Bucha, and French President Emmanuel Macron decried the massacres and said there were signs of war crimes. He denounced the barbarism of the at- tacks that devastated Irpin, and praised the courageof itsresidents and others in the re- gionwhohelpedthwart Russia’s attempt to overrun the capital. He was a founding member of the Impressionist movement, however, he ceased to display with the group after 1877. From the 1880s until well into the twentieth century, he developed a monu- mental, classically inspired style that influenced such avant-garde giants as Pablo Picasso. This French artist has lived an idiosyncrat- ic life, after the string of rejections by the conservative Salon de Paris, he along with his fellow artist friends formed an Anonymous Society of Painters, Sculp- tors and Engravers, later known as the Impressionists. These like-minded people mounted their first Impressionist exhibition in 1874, during this exhibi- tion, he showcased his six impressive impressionist paint- ings! The Impres- sionists, as they were called, sought to cap- ture modern life, and Renoir’s works from this period focused on everyday people. Though Renoir be- gan his artistic ca- reer as a porcelain painter; nonetheless, his ambitions to be- come a professional artist encouraged him to pursue other instruction. This independent artist with his new- found financial free- dom tried his hands on other artistic di- rection as well. After showcasing his de- sired arts in 2-3 con- tinuous exhibitions, he became one of the most successful and most famous artists of that time, his eve- ry art expressed scepticism about the durability of the Im- pressionist aesthetic and richness of emo- tion and a warmth of response to the world its people. His first painting in this vein, Luncheon of the Boating Party exhib- its a new solidity and clarity in the depic- tion of the figures and their placement within space, espe- cially when com- pared to Moulin de la Galette. After run- ning a successful movement, by the mid-1880s he broke the independent art movement to learn a more disciplined and formal approach to art and mainly Wom- en’s art. His most iconic painting from this period, Dance at the Moulin de la Gal- ette (Musée d’Orsay, Paris), explores dap- pled light as it flut- ters over young Montmartre revelers flirting, drinking, and dancing. Renoir’s inclina- tion for portraiture attracted the atten- tion of a range of patrons with avant- garde sensibilities. From the politically radical pastry cook Eugène Murer to the wealthy society lady Madame Georges Charpentier, Renoir painted all of his pa- trons with affection- ate charm. One of his most magnificent and enterprising portraits, the paint- ing of Marguerite Charpentier with her children mixes a modern informality and intimacy with the compositional rigor of an old mas- ter portrait. Reclin- ing Nude is an excel- lent example of his painting style in the mid-1880s. The mar- ble or porcelainlike figure is sharply de- fined against an im- pressionistically brushed landscape. The spatial relation- ship between the nude and the amor- phous background is deliberately unclear. Renoir had shifted his investigation of the old masters from linear classicism to the coloristic tradi- tions of Titian and Rubens as well as the unabashedly sensual beauty of eight- e e n t h - c e n t u r y French art. His finest example of linear classicism is Young Girl Bath- ing, which exhibits his softened touch. His love for art took him to a different level, despite old age and declining health, Renoir persisted in artistic experimenta- tion. Even in the last three decades of his life when he was suf- fering from severe rheumatoid arthritis he was found paint- ing with the brush tied to his wrists. His love for art depicts true emotions and powerful affirmation of his unmatchable desires. French magician, Renior was known for his mesmerizing Impressionist movement. His pure skills have given life to many imaginary people. Let’s dive into the amazing world of Renior! UTTKARSHA SHEKHAR uttkarsha.shekhar@firstindia.co.in F
