Ziauddin Khan
Jaipur: Criticising the
BJP for mocking the
Congress after he
praised industrialist
Gautam Adani during
the Invest Rajasthan
summit, Chief Minis-
ter Ashok Gehlot on
Saturday said it was
not a private pro-
gramme and 3,000 del-
egates attended it.
Be it Adani or Union
Home Minister Amit
Shah’s son Jay Shah,
Rajasthan will welcome
all because it wants in-
vestment and employ-
ment, Gehlot said.
“It is not a private
event, it is an investors’
summit. Are 3,000 dele-
gates (who attended the
summit) of the Con-
gress?” Gehlot asked,
asserting their ideolo-
gies could be that of the
Congress or the BJP
.
“In such a situation,

day). Be it Gautam Ada-
ni or any Adani, or Am-
bani or Amit Shah’s son
Jay Shah, we will wel-
come all of them here.
We want employment,
we want investment,”
the chief minister said.
It was not clear why
Gehlot clubbed Jay
Shah’s name with those
of industrialists Am-
bani and Adani as the
Union home minister’s
son is not known to
have any major busi-
ness interest.
Congress leader Ra-

Arvind Kejriwal at 'Lav Kush Ramlila' in New Delhi on Dussehra.
New Delhi (PTI): Union Law Minister Kiren
Rijiju hit out at the AAP and its leadership say-
ing he does not understand why Delhi Chief
Minister Arvind Kejriwal
and his gang hate Hindu
and Hindutva so much.
The minister's remarks
came after a video clip pur-
portedly showing Delhi So-
cial Welfare Minister Ra-
jendra Pal Gautam at an
event where hundreds took
a pledge to convert to Buddhism while de-
nouncing Hindu deities went viral.
In a series of tweets posted late on Friday
night and on Saturday morning, Rijiju said, I
really don't understand the reason as to why
Arvind Kejriwal and his gang hate Hindu and
Hindutva so much.
I can understand about Rahul Gandhi but

Arunachal Pradesh said.

Kejriwal's invocation of Lord Ram came against the
backdrop of a video clip purportedly showing Delhi

event where hundreds took a pledge to convert to
Buddhism while renouncing Hindu deities.
Banners terming Kejriwal as anti-Hindu and show-
ing him wearing a skull cap surfaced in Ahmedabad,
Rajkot, Surat, and Vadodara cities on Saturday.
Along with Kejriwal's pictures, some banners carried
lines like I consider Hindu religion as madness,
while some others had an anti-Hindu Kejriwal go

New Delhi (PTI): In a
no-holds-barred letter to
Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal, LG VK Saxena
has accused him and his
ministers of running
away from their consti-
tutional duties and re-
sponsibility of govern-
ance in Delhi.
In the letter dated Oc-
tober 7, Saxena also hit
out at Kejriwal govern-
ment saying its rule,
based on speeches and
advertisement, was al-
ienated from works of
basic public interest.
Saxena's letter comes
days after DyCM Man-
ish Sisodia accused him
of interfering in govern-
ment's functioning and
unconstitutionallyset-
ting up probes on its de-
cisions and works.
In a cheeky reply to
Saxena, Kejriwal in a
tweet on Saturday said:
Another love letter has
come. Kejriwal had ear-
lier too taken a dig at the
LG in a tweet saying he
was scolded by Saxena
more than he is scolded
by his wife. The LG said
his letters and instruc-
tions were meant to cau-
tion the government
against errors and
shortcomings in its
functioning yet he was
personally attacked and
became target of base-
less allegations.

New Delhi (PTI): CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sat-
urday hit out at the BJP and LG VK Saxena,
saying the saffron party is destroying the lives
of people of the national capital through LG.
BJP is hell bent on destroying the lives of
the people of Delhi through LG. Every day
these people make a fuss about something or
the other. I assure Delhiites that as long as this
son of yours is alive, don't worry
. I won't let any
harm come to you, Kejriwal said in another
tweet in Hindi.
DyCM Manish Sisodia also reacted to the
LG's letter, saying that it was being done due to
Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party's growing
popularity in Gujarat.
Every day AAP's support base in Gujarat
gets stronger, and everyday a new fake investi-
gation starts in Delhi. Everyone is aware of his
(LG's) conspiracies to stop Arvind Kejriwal.
They can do whatever they want but neither
the work being done in the interest of the pub-
lic in Delhi will stop, nor will the AAP wave in
Gujarat, Sisodia said in a tweet in Hindi.

woman to get the award. In
all, seventeen female writers

One of her novels, “Getting

about her intense affair with
a Soviet Diplomat.
Annie Ernaux is 82 years

‘courage and clinical acuity
with which she uncovers the
roots, estrangements and col-
lective restraints of personal

Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been
broken up into fragments by
narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from

Where tireless striving stretch-
es its arms towards perfec-
tion; Where the clear stream
of reason has not lost its way
into the dreary desert sand of
dead habit; Where the mind is
led forward by thee into ever-
widening thought and action-
Into that heaven of Freedom,

has got the Literature Prize
since then.

R
aste and religious
politics are close-
ly linked in India.
In reality politics
feeds on caste and
religion as it keeps voters
divided to its advantage.
Hindu scriptures divide the
society into four Varnas-
--Brahmins, Kshatriyas,
Vaishyas and Shudras---
based on which the evil of
the caste system has evolved
and become all-pervasive. It
is reflected in the discrimi-
nation of and frequent cases
of assault on Dalits. So fix-
ated are some upper caste
Hindus on castes that they
even want to practice it even
in distant America. It is,
therefore, heartening to
hear Mohan Bhagwat, the
Sarsanghchalak, talk of dis-
carding the caste system
(Varna and Jaati) as it has
become outdated. They are
things of the past and forgot-
ten, he said. Unfortunately,
they are not being allowed to
fade from public memory.
Given the hold that caste
politics has on Indian’s mind-
scape that doing away with it
will be like stirring a hornet’s
nest. Although attempts are
being made to assimilate low-
er castes into the main-
stream, high caste Hindus
will oppose any such move
tooth and nail. Just as Bhag-
wat’s 2019 call for a “conver-
sation in harmonious atmos-
phere between those in fa-
vour of quota and those
against it”. The call was in-
terpreted as anti-Dalit-Back-
ward face of the RSS and BJP
.
The RSS had to clarify that an
unnecessarycontroversywas
being created.

New Delhi (Agencies):
Aiming to boost its tally

New Delhi: The cur-

has the support of seven
parties. Although only
fourpartiesareinvolved
in the government, a to-
tal of seven parties are
in the coalition govern-
ment. Three communist
parties—CPI, CPM and
CPIML—have support-
ed the government from
outside, while JD(U),
RJD, Congress and Hin-

not easy in a politically
volatile state like Bihar.
But since the number of
these two parties, JD(U)

the majority, neither
party is in a position to
exert pressure.
Nevertheless, for the
last few days, there is a
discussion that a coordi-

shouldbeformed,which
will help in the opera-
tion of the coalition and
the government. This
demand is especially
from the three commu-

not part of the govern-

through the coordina-

will be able to keep an
eye on the work of the
government and take

‘We are facing ‘5th wave’ of debt crisis’
New Delhi: World Bank
President David Malpass
has said the world is facing
a “fifth wave of debt crisis”
and called for more support
for the countries that are in
distress. He said about $44
billion in debt service pay-
ments from bilateral and
private debt service have
become due in 2022 alone.
He said, “I am worried
about the debt levels, wor-
ried about the individual
countries… In 2022 alone,
around $44 billion in debt
service payments from bi-
lateral and private debt
service have become due in
some of the poorest coun-
tries, bigger than the for-
eign aid flows the coun-
tries could hope for.,” Mal-
pass added that the world
right now is “in the midst
of what I think is a fifth
wave of debt crisis”.
Separately
, during a con-
ference call, he told report-
ers that India has been one
of theleadersindigitisation
that empowers and expands
the social safety net, Mal-
pass said. Responding to a
question on India taking
over the presidency of G-20
in December, Malpass said
there is a potential focus on
debt. I think the world is at
a point where there can be
progress made for a more
effective common frame-
work, he said. India, he
said, is an important credi-
tor, for example, in Sri Lan-
ka and also in some of the
heavily indebted countries
of Africa. So, India as the
chair of the G-20 has an op-
portunity there, he said.

INDIA IS AWARE OF DEBT DISTRESS: PM MODI
I’ve spoken with PM Narendra Modi about this, he said, India is aware of
debt distress in countries. So, it is very relevant, he said. The second, I
mention, is education where India has been a leader in pushing forward,
Malpass said, as he mentioned about another major conference he co-
hosted at the UN last week on education, where they used the data from

crease in educational poverty. That means 70% of the kids in developing
countries are not able to read the basic text, he said. For India’s G-20,
this is a big opportunity. India has been a leader in education, he said.

OTHER STORIES
Rising food, oil prices fuelling inflation
New Delhi (Agencies): In-
flation in India has been on
the rise consistently for the
past several months and
various reasons can be at-
tributed to it such as soar-
ing food and oil prices,
among others.
However, most impor-
tantly, the sharply depreci-
ating rupee against the dol-
lar is one of the most sig-
nificant reasons behind it.
India’s retail inflation
rose to 7 per cent in August
from 6.71 per cent in July
and this was due to higher
food prices. In fact, retail
inflation has been beyond
the Reserve Bank of India’s
(RBI) tolerance limit of 6
per cent for eight months in
a row. A rise in food prices
has led to a spike in retail
inflation and this is evident
from the fact that inflation
in the food basket was 7.62
per cent in August, up from
6.69 per cent in July and
more than double from 3.11
per cent in August 2021.
Earlier this year, the
crude oil price had touched
$130 a barrel. However, in
September, it slid to less
than $85 per barrel. But
now they may rise again as
OPEC+, the group of oil-
producing nations, has de-
cided to cut down oil pro-
duction. Rising oil prices
directly impact inflation in
India. This can be gauged
from the fact that India im-
ports more than 85 per cent
of its oil requirement.
As crude oil prices start
to rise, imports will also go
up, which in turn will wid-
en the current account
deficit (CAD).
Widening CAD will fur-
ther weaken the rupee, as
in the face of a widening
deficit, the country will be
forced to sell rupees and
buy dollars.
A weak rupee has fuelled
inflation in India.
In order to control infla-
tion, the RBI has been hik-
ing repo rates since May
this year. Due to monetary
policy tightening across
the world, and the continu-
ing war between Ukraine
and Russia, the global sce-
nario has worsened as dis-
ruptions in supply chains
have fuelled price rises.
Resultantly, these pre-
vailing situations have
fuelled the risks of reces-
sion globally
.
This has also impacted
stock markets, as India has
seen large portfolio out-
flows worth $13.3 billion
during the current finan-
cial year.
PEOPLE STRUGGLE AS
PRICES OF GRAINS GO
THROUGH THE ROOF
New Delhi: Skyrocketing prices of
essentials has dealt a heavy blow
to the public already struggling to
recover from the repercussions of
the Covid-induced lockdowns im-
posed in phases since early 2020.
Be it vegetables or foodgrains,
the prices have touched the roof
right from taking them out of the
farms to reaching the common
man’s kitchen.Prices increase
manifold by the time it reaches
the consumer from the farms
via markets, wholesaler and
the vendors. The farmer grows
vegetables in the field and sells
it in the government-mandated
markets (mandis).
TRANSPORTATION
MAIN CAUSE OF
RISING PRICES IN NE
Guwahati/Agartala: Price
rise at source, transportation
bottlenecks and inadequate
storage facilities are the main
causes of the rising prices of
vegetables and other essentials
in the mountainous northeast-
ern states. The capitals of the
northeastern states via Guwahati
are 1,000 km to 1,700 km from
Kolkata by road, and 2,000 km
to 2,650 km from Delhi The
Northeast Frontier Railway is
now laying new railway tracks
to connect the capital cities
of three more northeastern
states - Manipur, Mizoram and
Nagaland.
COMBINATION OF ‘GLOCAL’ FACTORS
EXPECTED TO HEAT UP INFLATION
New Delhi: A combination of global and local (glocal) factors -- geopo-
litical developments, crop production, reduction in crude oil production
and the resulting price increase and depreciating rupee -- are expected
to heat up the prices. The heating up of the prices is already happening
and will continue to happen. A top official of a city-based star hotel told
that their raw food costs have gone up and is continuing to hike, which
have prompted hotels to revised prices of the dishes. A recent survey
of households by the RBI showed that most categories of respondents
expect higher inflation for both three months and one year ahead. A
larger share of households expects higher prices for all product groups.
Overall prices and inflation expectations for the 3 months ahead period
were generally aligned with food products, non-food products and cost
of services, while they were more aligned with non-food products and
cost of services for the longer horizon of one year, the survey revealed.

for the week ended Septem-
ber 30, Reserve Bank of In-

a dip in foreign currency as-

The fall is partly due to
depreciation of RBI’s hold-

WILL UDDHAV
COME BACK TO
THE ‘OLD HOUSE’?
One thing that can be
said with certainty
about politics is that
neither are there ‘all-
weather’ friends nor
enemies. Perhaps this
was the reason why in
his Dussehra rally at
Shivaji Park, where Ud-
dhav Thackeray was
cursing BJP in his fer-
vent address on Oct 5,
sources reveal that on
occasion of Navratri,
Uddhav’s wife Rashmi
Thackeray and Maha-
rashtra’s Deputy CM
Devendra Fadnavis
have held a meeting at a
well known Mumbai
based businessman’s
residence. If sources
are to be believed, Fad-
navis is constantly try-
ing to make a deal be-
tween Uddhav’s Shiv
Sena once again. It is
said that this Navratri
party was organized by
businessman’s wife,
since Uddhav’s wife
Rashmi Thackeray is
one of her integral
friends, so an invitation
had already been sent
to her. Inviting Fad-
navis to the event, busi-
ness family had told
him ‘Rashmi is also go-
ing to come.’ And this
meeting of Rashmi
Thackeray Fadnavis
lasted for one and a half
hours. According to
sources, Fadnavis told
Rashmi ‘if your Shiv
Sena gives up its claim
for post of CM, then we
can come together. You
can also get the benefit
of this in BMC elec-
tions.” Fadnavis fur-
ther said that ‘Aditya
Thackeray will be given
full respect in this alli-
ance, but we should
avoid personal attacks
on each other’. It is said
that Rashmi asked Fad-
navis if his plans had
support of the central
leadership if it hap-
pens, what will you
do with Eknath
Shinde? To this Fad-
navis said, “Shinde is
our problem. Leave him
to us. He has MLAs
which you don’t have.”
Rashmi has promised
Fadnavis that she will
speak to Uddhav.
GEHLOT AGREED,
BUT WAS MAKEN’S
HANDLING OF RAJ
‘CRISIS’ IMMATURE?
What really tran-
spired during the
meeting between Sonia
Gandhi and Ashok Ge-
hlot when the political
whirlwind hit Ra-
jasthan Cong a few days
back. Highly placed
sources in grand old
party have revealed
that KC Venugopal had
accompanied Ashok
Gehlot to meet So-
nia but as soon
as Sonia entered
the room, she
signaled Venugo-
pal to vacate
room. She then
spoke bluntly with
G e h l o t
and, according to sourc-
es, an emotional Sonia
asked Gehlot an impor-
tant question, “I always
trusted 2 people blindly,
one was Ahmed Patel
and other is you. But I
was disappointed by
the developments in Ra-
jasthan.” Gehlot also
presented his explana-
tion on Sonia’s ques-
tion and said, “Madam,
your people have made
a mistake. Ajay Maken
was in a hurry. I was
ready to leave the post
of CM even before con-
testing for the post of
President, but your peo-
ple had already started
pressurizing the MLAs’
that they have to choose
their new leader now or
at least convey
their senti-
ments to
high com-
mand. I
tried to
meet Mak-
en and
make him
understand
but he did
n o t
even consider it neces-
sary to meet me. Where-
as Ajay Maken spoke to
Sachin Pilot at least ten
times that day. So
shouldnt I even defend
myself, mam?” On this,
Sonia replied to Gehlot
and said, “Cong will
have to do ‘face saving’
and ‘damage control’ in
Raj.” In such a situa-
tion, it was decided be-
tween the two leaders
that after the election
of Cong President, Cen-
tral Observers will be
sent from Delhi to Ra-
jasthan who will talk to
the MLAs in a group of
5 legislators each. Any
decision on the new
leadership will be taken
only when they explore
their mind.
AKHILESH’S ‘NO’ TO
NITISH’S ‘ROAD
MAP’ OF KURMI
POLITICS
Bihar CM Nitish
Kumar is taking
the 2024 general elec-
tion a little too seri-
ously and it is
likely that
in the 2024
general elections, Nit-
ish’s JDU will contest
from 17 LS seats in Bi-
har while 17 seats will
be given to RJD and the
remaining 6 seats for
Cong and Left. So, San-
jay Jha, a very close
friend of Nitish, has
advised him that ‘JDU
should contest more
elections on 15 Kurmi
dominated seats out-
side Bihar. JDU is also
going to field candi-
dates in MP, West Ben-
gal, Jharkhand, Odisha
and Gujarat. If sources
are to be believed, San-
jay Jha reached Luc-
know as Nitish’s spe-
cial envoy urged SP
supremo Akhilesh Ya-
dav to ‘organize meet-
ings for Nitish in Kur-
mi-dominated districts
like Basti,
Shravasti,
S i t a p u r,
Mirzapur
and Ba-
r e i l l y. ’
Akhilesh
listened to
Jha and said, “Give
time to think, I will re-
spond.” When Akhile-
sh’s call did not come
for a long time, then
Tejashwi called Akh-
ilesh at Nitish’s behest
and asked him his opin-
ion about this. He said
that “when my party is
not entering Bihar, why
do you want to come to
UP?” Tejashwi sensed
what Akhilesh said.
Mamata Banerjee also
had similar views about
this. Jharkhand CM He-
mant Soren said after
much hesitation that
‘he can give up one of
his seats for Nitish as
per agreement.’ MP’s
Rewa is also a Kurmi
dominated seat from
where Buddsen Patel
came for the first time
by winning the election
in 1996. But UP is slip-
ping out of Nitish’s
hands, where after Bi-
har, there is a 9 percent
Kurmi population. San-
jay Jha also hopes that
he will convince Akh-
ilesh for this soon.
TENSION IN KCR
FAMILY, BLAME ON PK
Even though the po-
litical ambitions of
Telangana CM Chan-
drashekhar Rao are to
rise to national stage,
all is not well in his
house. The differences
between his son KTR
daughter Kavita are
now visible in public.
Recently, when KCR
changed name of his
regional party ‘TRS’ to
‘BRS’ and made his in-
tentions clear that now
his eyes are on national
politics, his daughter
Kavita was absent. She
has not found a place in
the team of 87 leaders
in charge of campaign-
ing management for
by-election to be held in
Monogode assembly
seat of Telangana. KTR
himself is blaming elec-
tion strategist Prashant
Kishor and claims that
PK had come to Hy-
derabad to meet Kavita
and his cousin Harish
Rao. KTR suspects that
PK has put various ide-
as in kavita his broth-
er’s minds that they are
being sidelined in party
.
Since then, the rebel-
lion of Kavita has start-
ed taking shape. Any-
way, when a BJP MP
dragged Kavita’s name
in Delhi’s liquor scam,
party did not come to
her rescue. KTR has
also ex-
pressed
his
dis-
pleas-
ure
with PK.

othing expresses happi-
ness like flowers. They
have the remarkable capac-
ity to make people smile
and lift their spirits. That
is why flowery motifs and
patterns are always used
by designers in their collections. If
you’re anything like us, you prefer to
have flowers around you in some man-
ner, shape, or form, whether you have
fresh blossoms on your nightstand or
your favourite dress has flowers
over it. In the textile business, there
are several flower print and pattern
varieties, such as antique floral pat-
terns, tropical floral patterns abstract
and stylised floral patterns which are
the favourite of most women.
Florals may provide a splash of col-
our to Indian festival attires. It adds to
the festive atmosphere, floral prints
were prominent at numerous fashion
events, including Couture Fashion
Week SS21 in Paris. Chanel, Fendi,
Dior, Viktor Rolf and Giambattista
Valli, all embraced the freshness of
flowers in their designs. Florals have
been popular in fashion for millennia.
During special occasions, ancient
Greek and Roman ladies wore fra-
grant head crowns and garlands
composed of flowers, leaves, and
herbs. Floral motifs are stitched
with gold and silver threads
onto the velvet dresses of Eu-
rope’s affluent throughout the
Medieval Ages.

and that much is certain! City First brings you some most
romantic floral pieces to float around this season
FLORALS IN THREE DIMENSIONS
3D floral designs are an incredible
strategy to bring the charm of flowers
to life. “Team 3D floral blouses with
jeans, shorts, or even a smart pair
of joggers for a casual style.” When
paired and matched correctly, it may
also be the ideal day appearance. They
also look great for a sophisticated
party dress.
FLOWERS ON FLOWERS
If implemented right, print-
over-print looks may be a lot
of fun. “Flowery paired with
floral look remarkably good.
Floral designs stand out even
more when paired with stripes
and gingham. However, bear
in mind that over-styling
might ruin the effect.
