t’s raining drones in Jammu
over the skies of India’s de-
fence establishments! After
two of those exploded at the
India Air Force base, many
have been sighted, fired
upon, and some even shot
down in the past. The attack
has tested the forces’ prepar-
edness and lack of any clear
guidelines on how to tackle
these aerial threats. Drones
have been dropping weapons
including sometimes AK-47s
and drugs in the border re-
gions of Jammu and Kash-
mir as well as Punjab.
While defence policymak-
ers will now be burning the
midnight oil to prepare a
strategy to combat the new
enemy toys, the reference
point and scale of threat can
be found in last year’s war
between two former Soviet
blocks of Armenia and Azer-
baijan, the first to be won en-
tirely on drone warfare.
It was between 1992-1994
that the first major war broke
out between the Muslim na-
tion Azerbaijan and Ortho-
dox Christian-dominated
country Armenia. Even
though Azerbaijan was
thrice the size of Armenia
and had a large army, but
mostly indisciplined and
loosely inherited from the
Soviet system. On the other
hand, Armenia possessed a
professional fighting force.
The war that was fought for
controlling the land-locked
region of mountainous Na-
gorno-Karabakh and had all
the conflicting elements
ranging from history
, geogra-
phy, ethnicity to religion
ended in Armenia’s favour
although not decisively so
the dispute regarding the re-
gion remained.
It was only in September
last year that another war
broke out between two na-
tions on the same tipping
pointsof Nagorno-Karabakh
and initially Azerbaijan was
yet again doing badly suffer-
ing heavy casualties at the
hands of Armenian forces.
Then entered the tigers
and adversaries of the re-
gion, Russia on the Armeni-
an side and Turkey with
Azerbaijan and thus, turned
the tide.
Just as Azerbaijan was on
the brink of another defeat
they unleashed flying fiday-
een or unmanned Turkish
drones called ‘Bayrakter’,
which flew, hit the target by
dropping 55 kgs of load, and
came back. The other drone
used was Israel-made ‘Kami-
kaze’ meaning suicide at-
tack. Although they don’t
carry heavy explosives, but
they can seek, find and lock
targets accurately. So they
can either catch a signal
from radar and search for a
target on its basis or can be
fully operated from the
ground thereby being guid-
ing towards locking the ad-
versary’s location.
Apparently, Azerbaijan
had just bought ‘Bayrakter’
drones from Turkey just
three months before war, i.e.
June last year, and quickly
held a series of joint exer-
cises with the Turkish Army
on how to operate them.
Armenia too had few
drones with Russian back-
ing, but they were just not
enough to engage or counter-
attack.
The impact of these drone
strikes was such that as
many as 185 Armenian tanks
were either destroyed by
these drones or captured by
Azerbaijan along with 45 ar-
moured fighting vehicles
and 44 infantry fighting vehi-
cles being blown up into
pieces, which is a lot consid-
ering the small scale of the
country. The soldiers taking
their guard on the ground
had no answer to the death
dropping from the skies. The
morale of Armenian forces
was shattered so much that
the outcome of the war be-
came just the second in-
stance in recent history
when the fighting and blood-
shed ended with a nation
surrendering. Second to only
Pakistan that surrendered
Bangladesh to India in 1971.
With the attack on Jam-
mu’s airbase, the potential
impact of these new-age
drones can in future reduce
traditional tanks and ar-
moured vehicles to mere tar-
get practice. Interestingly,
India in 2019 had bought few
‘Kamikaze’ drones from Is-
rael and is reportedly work-
ing on buying more.
But the question remains,
how prepare is India to deal
withsuchmodernunmanned
fidayeen warfare.
The recent attack has
punched loopholes in forces
preparedness indicating that
merely installing jammers
just won’t do.

billion tonnes of car-
bon sequestration by
2030. In last 7 years of
the Narendra Modi gov-

with forest and outside
forest has grown by
15,000 sq km.”
“I am very sure that
we will restore 26 mil-
lion hectares of degrad-
ed land, which contrib-
ute to carbon sequestra-
tion. We will restore
such lands using vari-
ous means, one of them
is panting saplings and
ensuring their growth.
This is what we are

10 years, and I am posi-

our target.” On the oc-

planted ‘Parijaat’ sap-
lings at his residence,
and said, “Today is the
beginning of forest
plantation festival in
India. It is important
because this is the cor-
rect season to plant and
to ensure its growth.”
Adding that mere
plantation of saplings
would not solve the is-
sue, he said, “Now only
planting the tree is not
important; planting and
ensuring its growth for
three years such that all
their needs are met for
them to survive on its
own is important.” The
Forest Festival or Van

Chandigarh: Punjab
Chief Minister Captain
Amarinder Singh has
reached out to the Hin-
du leaders of the party
with a luncheon meet
today. Around 20 lead-
ers are attending the
meet, which comes a
day after the central
leaders Rahul Gandhi
and Priyanka Gandhi
Vadra met Navjot Sidhu
and are suspected to
have arrived at a peace
formula. It is not known
yet what the arrange-
ment is, but there has
been talk of a reshuffle
in the party’s state unit
ahead of the elections.
The three-member
panel formed by Con-
gress chief Sonia Gan-
dhi to resolve the Pun-
jab Congress infighting,
had suggested that Mr
Sidhu be given a role in
the party structure. But
Mr Singh had not
agreed to it.
The names of two
leaders attending to-
day’s lunch – MP Man-
ish Tewari and educa-
tion minister Vijay In-
der Singla -- are doing
the rounds for the post
of party’s state presi-
dent. Both enjoy Mr
Singh’s patronage. Mr
Tewari got the ticket for
the Anandpur Sahib
Lok Sabha seat on the
CM’s insistence.
While Mr Sidhu is
seen as a key dissenter
who has contributed to
the crisis in the party’s
state unit, even a sec-
tion of Hindu leaders
are said to be unhappy
with the Chief Minister
because they feel side-
lined in the party
.
One of them, former
Batala MLA Ashwani
Sekhri, has criticised
the Chief Minister in
recent weeks over the
state’s handling of the
Covid pandemic.

Mamata and PM Modi fought
a bitter battle for West Bengal
in the recently concluded Assembly elections in
the state in which BJP faced a humiliating defeat.

pressing concerns about

from BJP but there is a
bigger compliment that
leaders from other par-
ties give you the same

Interestingly
, on June
14, Gehlot had talked
about holding only vir-
tual meetings for a
month or two on the ad-
vice of doctors owing to
post covid recovery and
caution. During the vir-
tual meeting Gehlot had
said, “Post Covid issues
are with me too. Doc-
tors have advised me to
hold only virtual meet-

months.” After this, till
now the Chief Minister
has been holding virtu-
al meetings only
.
However, Gehlot’s
presence at Raj Bha-
wan, on Thursday,
fuelled several specula-
tion. ‘Relevant sec-
tions’ of the Congress
party were elated to
learn of Gehlot’s move-
ments and attending
the ceremony as they
suspect that now that
the chief minister is
moving about, the po-
litical appointments
and cabinet expansion
could happen anytime
in the near future as
now the advice of doc-
tors will not become a
hindrance in these
tasks.
Moreover, the ‘hope-
fulls’ are also keepign
their fingers crossed
that the swearing in cer-
emony can also be held
soon since Gehlot, who
has already received
both the shots of vac-
cine, is in the safe zone
now.
While speculations is
one thing, reality is
quite another and it is
now believed that the
chief minister’s inter-
actions will increase in
the coming days where-
in he an start one on
one meetings also. In
view of the ongoing tur-
moil in the internal
politics of the Congress,
the meetings may bring

little,” Dr Guleria told.
New Delhi: The Di-

POSTAL REG NO. JPC/010/2019-21
Rajendra Chhabra
Jaipur: The State Gov-
ernment has given spe-
cial treatment to Tonk
district, primarily be-
cause former Deputy
Chief Minister Sachin
Pilot was elected from
here. Although Tonk is
a comparatively small-
er district, yet the force
of officials posted here,
is akin to bigger dis-
tricts. While RAS offic-
ers are generally deput-
ed on posts like CEO
and SDO, in Tonk, IAS
officers have been de-
puted on these posts
and as a result, Collec-
tor, CEO and SDO in the
district are officials be-
longing to the IAS cad-
re. But what is more
interesting is the fact
that the three posts are
being handled by three
women, which is a first
of its kind in Rajasthan.
A 2014 batch IAS offic-
er, Chinmayee Gopal is
currently serving as
TonkCollector,whileher
junior, a 2017 batch offic-
er, Saumya Jha is serv-
ing as the CEO, whereas,
a 2018 batch IAS officer,
Nithya K is serving as
SDO. It is also worth not-
ing here that Chinmayee
and Nithya have worked
together way back in
2019 in Ajmer.
WhenChinmayeewas
Commissionerof Ajmer
Municipal Corporation,
a controversy arose,
when her feud with an
advocate grabbed the
headlinesinnewspapers
and later Chinmayee
even registered an FIR
against the advocate. It
has only been two
months since she be-
cametheTonkCollector.
Nithya, when she was
serving as Assistant
Collector (under train-
ing), a Hindi teacher
had to be appointed for
her to make her con-
verse with people easily
,
since she is a native of
Tamil Nadu and doesn’t
know how to converse
in Hindi. She was post-
ed as Tonk SDO in Au-
gust 2020.
A 2017 batch IAS of-
ficer, Saumya has also
been appointed as CEO
of Tonk Zila Parishad
in April 2021. The fact,
therefore, remains that
although Nithya has
spent nearly eight
months in Tonk, the re-
maining two have only
completed 60 days in
their respective posi-
tions and as soon as
they took over, Covid’s
second wave hit the dis-
trict and when the situ-
ation couldn’t be han-
dled, two senior RAS
officers were sent in
from Jaipur to handle
Covid management.
Now that the situa-
tion is back to normal,
it remains to be seen
how these three lady of-
ficers would handle the
affairs of the district.

angoes are sweet, creamy
fruits that have a range of
possible health benefits.
They are highly popular
around the world.
The mango is a member
of the drupe family
. This is
a type of plant food with a fleshy outer
section that surrounds a shell, or pit.
This pit contains a seed. Olives, dates,
and coconuts are also part of this fam-
ily
. There are many different kinds of
mango. They vary in colour, shape, fla-
vour, and seed size. Although mango
skin can be green, red, yellow, or or-
ange, its inner flesh is mostly golden
yellow. This feature is part of a collec-
tionof articlesonthehealthbenefitsof
popularfoods.Inthisarticle,weexplore
the many benefits of mangoes, explain
their nutritional breakdown, and pro-
vide a few healthful recipe ideas.
Mango fruit is full of Vitamin A and
C and is one of the richest sources of
minerals such as potassium, magne-
sium, copper, calcium, and phos-
phorus. It is full of prebiotic
dietary fibre (prebiotics are
types of dietary fibre that
feed the friendly bacteria
in your gut) and a lot of
antioxidant compounds.
MANGOES MAY HELP
WHITTLE YOUR
MIDDLE:
They may seem more
likeadecadent
dessert than
a healthy
fruit, but
m a n g o e s
are diet-
friendly
. Because they’re naturally
sweet, eating them can help quash
your cravings for candy or other sug-
ary foods. A one-cup serving of fresh
mango has 100 calories, and because
that same serving has three grams of
filling fibre, you’ll feel fuller on
fewer calories. In fact, man-
goes are 83% water by
weight, and research
from Penn State Uni-
versity has shown
that eating foods
that have a high
water content
(and lower ener-
gy density) help
to keep you full-
er while eating
less.

Miyazaki mangoes are no ordinary fruit.
Christened Taiyo no Tamago (Egg of the
Sun), the ruby-hued fruit originally grown
in southern Japan’s Miyazaki Prefecture,
is as dear as gold in the international
market. A pair of mangoes were recently
auctioned for $3000 (approximately Rs
2.5 lakh); buying a mango will usually set
you back by $50. To qualify, the fruit has
to meet strict criteria. Only those man-
goes that fall off the tree are harvested. A
couple in Madhya Pradesh is now making
news as they are growing the fruit in their
orchard in Jabalpur. “It’s like jelly. You
can eat it along with its peel. The pulp just
melts in the mouth and is exceptionally
sweet,” Sankalp Singh Parihar said.

INDIA TALKS TOUGH BUT EU YET TO BLINK To make the EU fall in line, India is believed to be warned of a reciprocal policy of not accepting EU-approved shots for exemption to travellers from Europe S Promoted by First India News International Pvt. Ltd. t’s raining drones in Jammu over the skies of India’s de- fence establishments! After two of those exploded at the India Air Force base, many have been sighted, fired upon, and some even shot down in the past. The attack has tested the forces’ prepar- edness and lack of any clear guidelines on how to tackle these aerial threats. Drones have been dropping weapons including sometimes AK-47s and drugs in the border re- gions of Jammu and Kash- mir as well as Punjab. While defence policymak- ers will now be burning the midnight oil to prepare a strategy to combat the new enemy toys, the reference point and scale of threat can be found in last year’s war between two former Soviet blocks of Armenia and Azer- baijan, the first to be won en- tirely on drone warfare. It was between 1992-1994 that the first major war broke out between the Muslim na- tion Azerbaijan and Ortho- dox Christian-dominated country Armenia. Even though Azerbaijan was thrice the size of Armenia and had a large army, but mostly indisciplined and loosely inherited from the Soviet system. On the other hand, Armenia possessed a professional fighting force. The war that was fought for controlling the land-locked region of mountainous Na- gorno-Karabakh and had all the conflicting elements ranging from history , geogra- phy, ethnicity to religion ended in Armenia’s favour although not decisively so the dispute regarding the re- gion remained. It was only in September last year that another war broke out between two na- tions on the same tipping pointsof Nagorno-Karabakh and initially Azerbaijan was yet again doing badly suffer- ing heavy casualties at the hands of Armenian forces. Then entered the tigers and adversaries of the re- gion, Russia on the Armeni- an side and Turkey with Azerbaijan and thus, turned the tide. Just as Azerbaijan was on the brink of another defeat they unleashed flying fiday- een or unmanned Turkish drones called ‘Bayrakter’, which flew, hit the target by dropping 55 kgs of load, and came back. The other drone used was Israel-made ‘Kami- kaze’ meaning suicide at- tack. Although they don’t carry heavy explosives, but they can seek, find and lock targets accurately. So they can either catch a signal from radar and search for a target on its basis or can be fully operated from the ground thereby being guid- ing towards locking the ad- versary’s location. Apparently, Azerbaijan had just bought ‘Bayrakter’ drones from Turkey just three months before war, i.e. June last year, and quickly held a series of joint exer- cises with the Turkish Army on how to operate them. Armenia too had few drones with Russian back- ing, but they were just not enough to engage or counter- attack. The impact of these drone strikes was such that as many as 185 Armenian tanks were either destroyed by these drones or captured by Azerbaijan along with 45 ar- moured fighting vehicles and 44 infantry fighting vehi- cles being blown up into pieces, which is a lot consid- ering the small scale of the country. The soldiers taking their guard on the ground had no answer to the death dropping from the skies. The morale of Armenian forces was shattered so much that the outcome of the war be- came just the second in- stance in recent history when the fighting and blood- shed ended with a nation surrendering. Second to only Pakistan that surrendered Bangladesh to India in 1971. With the attack on Jam- mu’s airbase, the potential impact of these new-age drones can in future reduce traditional tanks and ar- moured vehicles to mere tar- get practice. Interestingly, India in 2019 had bought few ‘Kamikaze’ drones from Is- rael and is reportedly work- ing on buying more. But the question remains, how prepare is India to deal withsuchmodernunmanned fidayeen warfare. The recent attack has punched loopholes in forces preparedness indicating that merely installing jammers just won’t do. Despite furious spec- ulation, it is not clear yet whether another ally, Nitish Kumar’s Ja- nata Dal United, will fi- nally join the Union Cabinet. JDU leaders Lallan Sin- gh, Ramnath Thakur and Santosh Kushwaha are reportedly in the running. I think there could be a resolu- tion soon,” Harish Raw- at, Congress in-charge of Punjab, told ANI. Choose to live life with gratefulness and it is a choice one has to make on a daily basis. —Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO Editor-in-Chief, First India JAIPUR | FRIDAY, JULY 2, 2021 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epaper/ I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia 08 2NDFRONT POSTAL REG NO. JPC/010/2019-21 Rajendra Chhabra Jaipur: The State Gov- ernment has given spe- cial treatment to Tonk district, primarily be- cause former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot was elected from here. Although Tonk is a comparatively small- er district, yet the force of officials posted here, is akin to bigger dis- tricts. While RAS offic- ers are generally deput- ed on posts like CEO and SDO, in Tonk, IAS officers have been de- puted on these posts and as a result, Collec- tor, CEO and SDO in the district are officials be- longing to the IAS cad- re. But what is more interesting is the fact that the three posts are being handled by three women, which is a first of its kind in Rajasthan. A 2014 batch IAS offic- er, Chinmayee Gopal is currently serving as TonkCollector, whileher junior, a 2017 batch offic- er, Saumya Jha is serv- ing as the CEO, whereas, a 2018 batch IAS officer, Nithya K is serving as SDO. It is also worth not- ing here that Chinmayee and Nithya have worked together way back in 2019 in Ajmer. WhenChinmayeewas Commissionerof Ajmer Municipal Corporation, a controversy arose, when her feud with an advocate grabbed the headlinesinnewspapers and later Chinmayee even registered an FIR against the advocate. It has only been two months since she be- cametheTonkCollector. Nithya, when she was serving as Assistant Collector (under train- ing), a Hindi teacher had to be appointed for her to make her con- verse with people easily , since she is a native of Tamil Nadu and doesn’t know how to converse in Hindi. She was post- ed as Tonk SDO in Au- gust 2020. A 2017 batch IAS of- ficer, Saumya has also been appointed as CEO of Tonk Zila Parishad in April 2021. The fact, therefore, remains that although Nithya has spent nearly eight months in Tonk, the re- maining two have only completed 60 days in their respective posi- tions and as soon as they took over, Covid’s second wave hit the dis- trict and when the situ- ation couldn’t be han- dled, two senior RAS officers were sent in from Jaipur to handle Covid management. Now that the situa- tion is back to normal, it remains to be seen how these three lady of- ficers would handle the affairs of the district. Will Tonk’s ‘Tri-Devis’ rise to the administrative challenge? First India Bureau Jaipur: CM Ashok Ge- hlot has approved the proposal related to ju- risdiction of 12 new po- lice stations approved in 6 districts. New police stations will be set up at Sadar Sujangarh in Churu district, Obri and Chau- rasi in Dungarpur, Jaipur Airport, SMS Hospital, Jaipur-Ajmer Highway Jaisingh- pura Khor, Moamabad Renwal-Manjhi in Jaipur rural, Bhadra Canal water security anti-theft stations in Nohar in Hanuman- garh Kalyanpur in Udaipur and Behtuka- lan in Alwar. Moreover, in sequence of an- nouncements made by CM Gehlot during the State Budget- 2021-22, debate on budget and discussion on Finance and Appropriation Bill, 8 new courts will be opened in the state soon. Gehlot also ap- proved upgradation of Civil Judge Judicial Magistrate Court at Todarai Singh of Tonk district to Senior Civil Judge Additional Chief Judicial Magis- trate Court opening of Civil Judge and Judi- cial Magistrate Courts. Christened Taiyo no Tamago (Egg of the Sun), the ruby-hued fruit originally grown in southern Japan’s Miyazaki Prefecture, is as dear as gold in the international market. A pair of mangoes were recently auctioned for $3000 (approximately Rs 2.5 lakh); buying a mango will usually set you back by $50. To qualify, the fruit has to meet strict criteria. Only those man- goes that fall off the tree are harvested. A couple in Madhya Pradesh is now making news as they are growing the fruit in their orchard in Jabalpur. “It’s like jelly. You can eat it along with its peel. The pulp just melts in the mouth and is exceptionally sweet,” Sankalp Singh Parihar said. JELLY IN MOUTH! M NOT SO ‘AAM’ MITALI DUSAD mitalidusad01@gmail.com
