My Experience Of Bowling
Bowling has always been competitive for me. Whenever I would play with my friends or family I would always try to play my best, and that
competition kept bowling interesting for me. After bowling for a while, my mom signed me up for an Etihad Airways Bowling Tournament.
From the moment I walked in, I felt I was out of my league. Most of them walked in with their own equipment and looked like they had been
playing for years. That didn't stop me from playing though. I felt this would be a great learning experience and I knew the only way I could get
better was by playing with people who were better than I was. Despite having a slim chance of victory, I played my best as to not drag my team
down. This experience taught me that even if the odds are stacked against me you should always try your best. You never know what you can
accomplish when you set your...show more content...
I decided to follow that tip and bought my own bowling ball a couple of weeks after the tournament. I started to go bowling every week after buying
the ball, and with enough practice I learnt how to use the ball to my advantage. This changed bowling for me, and my average was never the same.
By buying a bowling ball and following the tips of my teammates, I was able to improve my game beyond what I thought was possible. I learnt that I
should never be afraid to try out someone's advice, especially when they were more experience than I was. After bowling at the lanes for enough
time, I managed to know a lot of people there and even got to know the host of the league games. He offered me a membership, which I accepted. I
started to play double the amount of games I would normally play from then onwards. I learnt how to network with people and managed to get to
know people there, that eventually let me pay half the price for any of the games I

Personal Reflection On Bowling
After having the opportunity to take a bowling class this semester, I have learned much more about bowling and how it can be used as an overall
fitness program and healthy lifestyle. As almost anything in life bowling has it benefits and its weakness. It's worth to further explore them and discuss
these ideas further. First we talk about how bowling can be played for fun with friends and family, we than talk about that it's competitive sport and it
can be treated like many of the popular sports out there. Than we go on to talk about the benefits of using bowling as a fitness for a healthy
lifestyle, and then we move on to talk some of the area where bowling doesn't help when we are talking about a healthy lifestyle, we also tie
everything together at the end and compare using bowling as fitness sport to other sports, and finally we go on to give a personal reflection of my
overall opinion on bowling and my future plans for playing bowling in my life. Bowling can be played for fun, and because of the nature of bowling,
it is perhaps more suitable for playing for fun compared to other sports. The obvious advantage here is that it requires very little atheletism and
physical ability to just play, this is not the case for sports like basketball, football, tennis and soccer. Where in other to have a fun game there is a
certain standard of the athletic abilities and skills of the players involved. Unlike bowling where anyone can just play. Additionally, in bowling
there is room for conversation and jokes more so than any of the sports mentioned above, so the ability for social interaction is certainly greater. It
is easy to do when you are sitting comfortably and waiting for your turn. The situation itself actually encourages this, since it's the only logical
thing to do. This is a huge advatange of bolwing and it makes this activity very fun. This is ideal for someone that has a problem with
depression.Depression is an issues for many individuals so having a sport like this is a great since it allows friends and coworkers to get together on a
weekly basis and interact with each other. It provides a platform where everyone can play the same game. Regardless of age athletic ability and

19 December 2014 "Ten Pin" Bowling, whether competitive or recreational, everyone has the same goal, knock down all 10 pins. Many people
consider bowling to be a simple sport but actually there is a lot of strategy and skill to the game. There are many rules that come with the sport, and
they have changed quite a lot over the years. Bowling has been traced all the way back to the Ancient Egyptians and the basis of the sport has always
been the same throw an object down a "Lane" and knock "Pins" or objects down. The game has evolved so much since then and two major ones were
the automatic pin setter and automatic score keeper. In today's modern society the equipment used is so far technologically advanced, it makes for an
intense sport. Bowling is a great sport due to the fact that it caddy's to a...show more content...
A British anthropologist, Sir Flinders Petrie, discovered objects in a child's grave in Egypt that appeared to be some form of bowling
materials.(Bowling Hall of Fame) The ancient Egyptians used to roll stones at objects and try to knock them over.(Hamilton) Bowling was such a
popular game throughout history and it was a very enjoyable activity. King Edward III outlawed the game in order to focus on archery practice.
(Bowling Hall of Fame) The English, Dutch, and German settlers all had their own variations of bowling and brought it to America. The earliest
mention of the sport in American literature is by Washington Irving when Rip Van Winkle awakens to the sound of "crashing ninepins". (Bowling
Hall of Fame) However bowling had some issues back in the 1800s when Connecticut law made it illegal to maintain "ninepin lanes" only due to the
fact that it was a big gambling sport. (Bowling Hall of Fame) It is uncertain where today's bowling of "Ten Pin" came about but before that there were

Specific Purpose: I want my audience to know how they can improve their bowling scores the next time they go out on a Friday night.
Organizational Pattern: Informative
Introduction
I. Attention–Getting Device: How many of you guys think that you are the world's worst bowler? I bet you didn't know that the lowest game ever
bowled by a man on ABC men's league is two. Mike Kappa, of Racine, Wisconsin, accomplished his outrageous score by throwing 18 gutter balls.
However Richard Caplette, of Danielson, Connecticut, who threw nineteen in one game, holds the record for the most gutter balls.
II. Orientation Phase
A. Point: I would like to inform my fellow classmates about bowling and how they can improve their games while...show more content...
B. Another important piece of equipment is the bowling ball.
1. The bowling ball should be the proper weight proportion to the bowler's weight.
2. A bowling ball should also be selected that is easy for the bowler tohang on to and release when bowling.
Transition: Now that you know what equipment to use, I will explain the proper approach when bowling.
II. I know that many of you have probably been to the bowling many times, but have you ever been shown the proper way to approach the lanes.
A. The first one should do is do things backwards.
1. A bowler should start at the foul line and go through the four–step approach as if they had a bowling ball and were getting ready to throw it at the
pins. Where the bowler stops after their four steps that is the place where they should start when the game starts and they are getting ready to throw the
ball.
B. The next thing the bowler should do is find a mark. A place on the lane in which they intend to throw the ball.
1. After a bowler has found a mark then the bowler can adjust the placement of their feet in order to get the bowling ball to hit the pocket and get a
strike.
Transition: Finally I would like to tell you about some games that can help you improve your bowling games and add a little fun and competition with
you and your friends.
III. Now that I have explained the equipment and some basic fundamentals, I am going to tell you about a

Analysis Of A Bowling Essay
Bowling There are a lot of steps for bowling. The very first step is to find your weight of the bowling ball and your shoe size. When you start
bowling every person is different on where they need to stand at and how far back or how far forward. By the time you bowl for a while you will
find out on where you need to stand. I stand on the left by the second dot and throw my ball on the second arrow on the right. People that bowl with
straight balls stand in the middle and just throw it down the lane. When I first started bowling I just threw a ball down the lane. But now I throw a
curveball that comes back inside. So what that all means I can stand on the left and throw it on the right side of the lane and if the timing is all right
it will come back and it will come right into the pocket. I'm sure all of you guys are wondering what the pocket means and what it means is...show more

A straight ball is where the ball stays in one spot of doesn't move at all unless the lanes are really dry then it will hook. A curve ball moves no matter
what and if the lanes are dry the curve ball will hook extremely. So that is the difference between the two different types of bowling balls. The object
of bowling is to knock down as many pins as possible. For High School bowling you bowl two individuals games and the five bakers. The most
common baker style is to be the 5 person format where bowler 1 bowls frames 1 and 6, bowler 2 bowls frames 2 and 7, bowler 3 bowls frames 3 and 8,
bowler 4 bowls frames 4 and 9 and bowler 5 bowls frames 5 and 10. The order is set at the beginning of the match but can be changed after the
completion of each game. So these are the pretty basic steps I do when I bowl. And you guys may think bowling is a hard sport to be good at but it
just takes time. It took me like three years to get pretty good at it. It's a pretty competitive sport if you bowl the right

Many discover what their talents are. Whether it was when they were a child, teenager, or even an adult. People found out at different times.
Someone may be lost or do not find it at the right moment. But once they discover, it is a feeling of satisfaction or simply a feeling of realizing
they are good at something. Once they find out, their life can possibly get better. I was once hopeless and did not have a goal in life. I was not
sure what I would be doing in high school. Then I discovered I was pretty good at bowling. Today, I will be talking about how I got into bowling,
what I did with my talent, and how I learned to be a better person through bowling and the satisfaction of knowing my talent. There are certain
ways you can discover your talent. Whether it is in a strange way or even an obvious way. One day, me and my friends were going bowling on a
Saturday night. I was wondering how you can curve a bowling ball. I decided to just use two fingers in the bowling and throw it with a quarter turn
of the ball to curve. I realized I could be accurate and consistent every time I threw my bowling ball. It got to the point where I could do something
with this talent so I found out my high school had a bowling team. Kapaun Mt. Carmel, the high school I attended, had a bowling team and it was the
perfect opportunity to showcase my...show more content...
Bowling has definitely taught me very much ever since I discovered my talent. I have gain respect for those who bowl regularly in leagues and take
the sport to heart. It has helped me with the stress I was dealing with in school and family. Bowling is where I relieved my stress and performed my
hardest. I have managed to gain notoriety within the Wichita bowling community. Satisfaction is where it kicked in and I definitely realized other
people's recognition of my talent. For once in my life, I felt proud of myself. Patience pays off when you discover

How To Write A Persuasive Bowling Essay
When you were ever bowling have you ever thought to yourself that maybe if you keep in mind of friction, acceleration, or mass. You would be a
better player and have a better performance and maybe have a perfect game? If you ever learned about Newton's 2nd Law then you know it fits
perfectly with bowling. If you execute it to bowling you may get a strike every time, but there's some science behind it. Let's talk about how
acceleration is important. If you use a little bit of acceleration then you would barely hit any pins, but use too much acceleration then the bowling ball
would go to fast and zip past the pins barely knocking down pins, and not creating that cause and effect when pins knock down each other. The cause
and effect is very

The Physics of Bowling Bowling is a fun filled pastime with a lot more to it than what meets the eye. Some of the concepts involved are energy,
momentum, forces, velocity, acceleration, and center of mass. The ultimate goal of a bowler is to knock down as many pins as he can. To
successfully do this, a bowler needs to first consider the trajectory in which his ball travels down the lane. Energy is a system's "ability to do
work."(Elert) The unit for energy is joules. Some other characteristics of energy are that it takes numerous forms and that it is a scalar quantity.(Elert)
The two types of energy are kinetic energy and potential energy. Kinetic energy refers to an object's motion. This differs...show more content...
The greater angle optimizes the number of pins that the ball will knock down. The way that the bowler controls this is in the manner in which he
grasps the ball. It is dependent on the position that the bowler places his fingers and thumb. Rotational velocity is the main feature. The importance of
rotational velocity is from the precession it provides the ball with. Precession "is the change in direction of the bowling balls spin vector... over time" (
Physics Of Bowling.) Increasing precession leads to the domino effect. That is increasing amount of friction on the ball, so the hook that the ball
strikes the pins is also greater. By default there is a greater angle for the bowling

Physics Of Bowling
The one thing that interests me is bowling. I have been playing all my life and after a whole semester and a half of being in Mr. Fetter's class, I
realized that everything has physics in it. One night after going bowling with my girlfriend(s) I wondered why when I hit the first pin, only seven
went down and thus I lost the game. So, I got on the Internet and found a lot of articles and web sites talking about the physics of bowling. A lot of the
web sites were brief descriptions. A guy named Paul Durbin wrote many articles on physics. One of his articles he discussed was about bowling. He
mentioned one thing we already went over this semester in physics class. But it seems to me that he neglected to mention other...show more content...
You may let go of the bowling ball at a constant speed, but its velocity is not constant because of the change in direction every instant. The ball's state
of motion is changing. It's accelerating! Now you can see why it is important to know the difference between speed and velocity, and whyacceleration
is defined as the rate of change of velocity, rather than speed. Acceleration is like velocity, its directional. If you were to change your arms speed or
direction, or even both, you change velocity and you accelerate. Just remember acceleration = change of velocity/time interval.
The one thing that's cool about pool is that wooden alley that's always shiny. The alley is made out of fine wood and is usually shined up. The
alley seems to be the friction that slows a ball down. Even when a single force is applied to an object, it is usually not the only force affecting the
motion. This is because of friction. Friction is a force that always acts in a direction to oppose motion. When you let go of the ball one way, the air
resistance is coming the opposite direction.
Let go of the bowling ball and you can see it in motion. If an object moves, the by virtue of that motion it is capable of doing work. It has energy in
motion, or kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of an object depends on the mass of the object as well as its speed.
KE = ВЅmvВІ.
When you let go of that bowling ball, you do work on it to give it speed to get that nice rotation. The

Summary Robert Putnam's basic thesis is that there is a decline in civic engagement in urban cities. He goes on to explore different probable factors
that are causing the decline in civic engagement. First off, he dichotomizes civic engagement into two categories: machers and schmoozers. Machers
and schmoozers are people who engage in formal kinds of civic engagement (following politics) and informal kinds of civic engagement (hanging out
with friends) respectively. Civic engagement, overall, is on the decline according to Putnam (informal activities in particular, however, are ones that
Americans, on average engage in more often). This decline applies to cities because of certain urban characteristics. The city, because of our...show

This relates to Putnam because he theorizes that mobility and sprawl of people can contribute to social capital's decline. However, people that are a
minority (not stereotypically middle–class and white) may choose to stay within where they feel they belong. In fact, civic disengagement is liable to
happen not only by moving too much, but by its exact opposite, by staying at a place way too long. It seems that any extreme of mobility or
remaining can have both detrimental effects to social capital. Also, there was mention of two people of two different races, where a white person
donated a kidney to a black person in Putnam's book. Residential segregation could conceivably have not made such an intimate connection between
two races possible and so Putnam may need to consider the various reasons people stay with their own kind aside from a patriotic feeling so that he
can come up with solutions to our waning civic engagement. Evidence Assessment Is there social capital present from an urban life? In some instances,
it is present and absent in others, so what is the so–called "big picture" regarding whether or not it is present or absent overall? For evidence of the
increasing presence of social capital, I will use as evidence my own personal experiences and observations. From my experience, city life can only
alienate you if you let it. Putnam may be quick to blame electronic media for giving us excuses to decline social capital, or he

It was dark and rainy outside, we were just in for a good time, yet we had no idea what was in for the future ahead of us. Myself and a few other friends
were at the bowling alley in Glenwood Iowa, for no specific reason, just to have a good time with each other. It was the middle of summer and who
knew this was going to be one of the scariest nights of our lives.
"It's your turn to bowl!" Alyx exclaimed to me. Everytime I go up to bowl I wait for the same ball to come out of the ball shoot every single time, it's
bright red and only has 3 little holes for my fingers to go into. As I went up to bowl, I grabbed my lucky ball and rolled it down the path like a slippery
snake, STRIKE! Right after I had gotten my strike, the bowling alley got a telephone call saying there was a shooting nearby in town. Everyone got a
little panicked, but we continued with our fun night of bowling. Kamryn, Kennedy and Tommy all bowled and got their scores. It was starting to
get darker outside when all of a sudden we heard gunshots outside of the building, just as loud as when you hear an airplane taking off. The
gunshots were one right after another, 4 in a row. *boom boom boom boom* they went in the air. Everyone went to look outside and all of a sudden
a dark shadow wearing all black clothes was starting to walk up to the door, it was still about 100 feet away, but it was getting closer, and fast. "Get
into the bathroom, now!" The manager of the bowling alley told us with spark in his

Have You Ever Went Bowling
Have you ever went bowling before? This is relevant because bowling is a lot of fun. I will be explaining the first time I experienced bowling. When I
experienced bowling, it looked like a lot of fun. I was with my dad and I decided to try it out. I never knew how to bowl. My dad bowls on a league
and I always went with him to watch. I learned how to bowl by watching how the other people did. Now, I bowl for our highschool team. I also
bowl on different leagues. I plan on going to college to bowl. When I first went to the bowling alley, it sounded like thunder when the ball hit the
pins. Learning how to put curve on the ball was very hard to do. My dad helped me with it and once I got the hang of it, I started doing better.

Bowling Ethnography
Heather Dooley 10 Pound Balls We tend to think that bowling is a very simple and boring sport played by only older men. I did my fieldwork at a
bowling alley during two different leagues to explore the different social interactions among bowlers. I learned that bowling is not limited to one
specific age group or gender. I also discovered there is a unique hierarchy among the bowlers that is not determined by their age or gender. This social
status is dependent upon their bowling average, type of ball used, and the weight of their balls. I found there were many other social interactions that
occurred between smaller groups of bowlers such as teammates. I first entered the field during a Wednesday night bowling league. The...show more

Some men used them as a way to brag to the other men. They would say the reason another man is bowling so bad is because he has a bad, cheap
ball. I also noticed the men bowlers would use the weight of their balls to poke fun at the other bowlers. They will compare their ball's weight to
their manhood or manliness. For instance, "Wow, you're only using that little ten pound ball. Did you borrow that from your girlfriend?" "Careful
carrying that big sixteen pound ball you might not be big enough for that yet." [pic] There are many different kinds of socialization among the
bowlers. They joke and tease each other, give tips on how to bowl better and they also play card games with their teammates. There are two
different types of games played among the different leagues. On Wednesday night they play a game called Kiddy Pot. This is a money game
played by the men bowlers only that corresponds to how well you are playing. If you miss the five pin, throw a gutter ball, or miss the head pin
twice you lose a dollar. If you are hung, which in bowling terms means four members of your team strike or split during the same frame but one does
not, then the person who misses the strike loses two dollars. If all five members of the team strike during the frame, the next frame whoever misses
the strike loses a dollar. At the end of the season all of the money lost playing this

Reflective Essay On Bowling
Final Reflection I planned to go to indoor rock climbing for this recreation reflection, however I changed my plan to go to bowling place, because I
took out two wisdom teeth this Wednesday. The dentist emphasized do not exercise, especially that requires tough movement, and if I have to do
exercise then try to move little bit. Therefore, I chose bowling, which does not require big movement, and could enjoy with other people. I asked my
family to play with me and we went to the Fountain Bowl, which is right next to the Mile Square Park. I played with my aunty, Lisa, and two
friends, Lucy and Britney. Since we went to the bowling place after lunch time, there were not a lot of people, therefore we could get a bowling
alley quickly. While Lucy went to the snack bar to get nachos, Aunty, Britney and I looked around to find bowling balls. After we found two 5 lbs
and one 6 lbs, we changed our shoes to bowling shoes. Aunty and Britney used 5 lbs balls, and Lucy and I shared the 6 lbs ball. We typed our
names on the monitor and started the game. The order was Lisa, Lucy, Jessica, and Britney. This was the first time that Lucy and I officially
played bowling after we grew up, so I was kind of nervous. As far as I remember, I went to bowling place when I was little with my parents in Korea,
and I threw the ball and rolled the ball with two hands. I learned the pose from my dad at house, but did not learned bowling professionally. However,
my parents enjoyed bowling when I was

Bowling Report
Bowling has a long and rich history, and today is one of the most popular sports in the world. A British anthropologist, Sir Flinders Petrie, discovered
in the 1930's a collection of objects in a child's grave in Egypt that appeared to him to be used for a crude form of bowling. If he was correct, then
bowling traces its ancestry to 3200 BC.
A German historian, William Pehle, asserted that bowling began in his country about 300 AD. There is substantial evidence that a form of bowling
was in vogue in England in 1366, when King Edward III allegedly outlawed it to keep his troops focused on archery practice. And it is almost certain
that bowling was popular during the reign of Henry VIII.
By this time, too, there were...show more content...
Soon standardization would be established, and major national competitions could be held.
While women had been bowling in the latter half of the nineteenth century, the American Bowling Congress was for men. It was in 1917 that the
Women's International Bowling Congress was born in St. Louis. Encouraged by proprietor Dennis Sweeney, women leaders from around the country
participating in a tournament decided to form what was then called the Women's National Bowling Association.
Bowling technology took a big step forward about the same time. Balls used to be primarily lignum vitae, a very hard wood. But in 1905 the first
rubber ball, the "Evertrue" was introduced, and in 1914 the Brunswick Corporation successfully promoted the Mineralite ball, touting its
"mysterious rubber compound".
Now organized, with agreed upon standards, the game grew in popularity. In 1951 another technological breakthrough set the stage for massive growth.
American Machine and Foundry Company (AMF, then a maker of machinery for the bakery, tobacco and apparel businesses) purchased the patents to
Gottfried Schmidt's automatic pinspotter, and by late 1952 production model pinspotters were introduced. No longer did a proprietor have to rely on
"pinboys".
Television embraced bowling in the 1950's, and the game's popularity grew exponentially. NBC's broadcast of "Championship

Descriptive Essay On Bowling
Bowling is one of my favorite things to do every Saturday morning in a league . In the first few weeks I was bowling in a consistent way which
means that you do the same every time. The weeks we do not bowl on are Holiday weekends because they want us to spend time with our family like
on the Christmas, Easter, and etcetera holiday weekends. Bowling every saturday in Utica gives me something to do so i'm not bored at home like
always because I can barely do anything on the weekend except for hangout with my friends after. We are halfway in the season already and we
started the week after school started, and it's going by fast and i've been bowling good it's a success so far. My team has been holding up the past
weeks and i'm surprised about it.
My bowling style that I use when I bowl and what I do. I aim for the second arrow on the right like the pro bowlers. Some directions to hook,
number one the pro bowlers look at the second arrow and aim for it and don't look at the pins. Number two they follow through and look at the
wrist to see if they can improve and not get another mistake, and that's all I can think of. Some pro bowlers are Belmo(Jason Belmonte), Pete Weber,
Wes Malott, and Norm Duke. Jason Belmonte is the only two hand bowler out of the ones I just mentioned. My team finished 4th place in the first
half of the season and that's pretty good, and I got a medal for one of the top ten bowlers in my league, and top ten scorers with my highest game in
leagues

I was embarrassed.
We stood as a, STEM, group in Crest bowling lanes, with the CDC class, and I just threw the ball backwards as coach watched me. He only
watched me due to how well I had been bowling in the previous games, I could tell he was scouting. Not only was he the bowling coach, but he
was my sophomore algebra ii teacher. I remember my face growing red as he approached me. Then to add to the whole situation my friend got it
on video. I tried to keep my cool, but I will never forget what he said to me after. He said, "Uhm sweetie, the lane is the opposite direction. Come
find me when you figure that out, but if you cannot try and try again. You've got this." Although I was discouraged at that point his words, obviously,
stuck with me. I recall finishing that field trip with a smile on my face and an average score of a one hundred and one, which made me laugh because
it looked like "lol" (laugh out loud). This was only the start.
Now, during my sophomore year of high school the theme of my STEM project was bowling. After the initial introductory field trip I was hooked,
better yet I was inspired. Bowling called to me like never before, I learned the science to it. Not only did I researched the mechanics of physically
bowling, but the manufacturing of the ball itself. Throughout my research that the type of ball used to bowl, aside from recreational bowling,
depended on the bowling style of the bowler. Now, a house ball could be used to bowl regardless, but if a

My Experience Of Bowling

  • 1. My Experience Of Bowling Bowling has always been competitive for me. Whenever I would play with my friends or family I would always try to play my best, and that competition kept bowling interesting for me. After bowling for a while, my mom signed me up for an Etihad Airways Bowling Tournament. From the moment I walked in, I felt I was out of my league. Most of them walked in with their own equipment and looked like they had been playing for years. That didn't stop me from playing though. I felt this would be a great learning experience and I knew the only way I could get better was by playing with people who were better than I was. Despite having a slim chance of victory, I played my best as to not drag my team down. This experience taught me that even if the odds are stacked against me you should always try your best. You never know what you can accomplish when you set your...show more content... I decided to follow that tip and bought my own bowling ball a couple of weeks after the tournament. I started to go bowling every week after buying the ball, and with enough practice I learnt how to use the ball to my advantage. This changed bowling for me, and my average was never the same. By buying a bowling ball and following the tips of my teammates, I was able to improve my game beyond what I thought was possible. I learnt that I should never be afraid to try out someone's advice, especially when they were more experience than I was. After bowling at the lanes for enough time, I managed to know a lot of people there and even got to know the host of the league games. He offered me a membership, which I accepted. I started to play double the amount of games I would normally play from then onwards. I learnt how to network with people and managed to get to know people there, that eventually let me pay half the price for any of the games I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Personal Reflection On Bowling After having the opportunity to take a bowling class this semester, I have learned much more about bowling and how it can be used as an overall fitness program and healthy lifestyle. As almost anything in life bowling has it benefits and its weakness. It's worth to further explore them and discuss these ideas further. First we talk about how bowling can be played for fun with friends and family, we than talk about that it's competitive sport and it can be treated like many of the popular sports out there. Than we go on to talk about the benefits of using bowling as a fitness for a healthy lifestyle, and then we move on to talk some of the area where bowling doesn't help when we are talking about a healthy lifestyle, we also tie everything together at the end and compare using bowling as fitness sport to other sports, and finally we go on to give a personal reflection of my overall opinion on bowling and my future plans for playing bowling in my life. Bowling can be played for fun, and because of the nature of bowling, it is perhaps more suitable for playing for fun compared to other sports. The obvious advantage here is that it requires very little atheletism and physical ability to just play, this is not the case for sports like basketball, football, tennis and soccer. Where in other to have a fun game there is a certain standard of the athletic abilities and skills of the players involved. Unlike bowling where anyone can just play. Additionally, in bowling there is room for conversation and jokes more so than any of the sports mentioned above, so the ability for social interaction is certainly greater. It is easy to do when you are sitting comfortably and waiting for your turn. The situation itself actually encourages this, since it's the only logical thing to do. This is a huge advatange of bolwing and it makes this activity very fun. This is ideal for someone that has a problem with depression.Depression is an issues for many individuals so having a sport like this is a great since it allows friends and coworkers to get together on a weekly basis and interact with each other. It provides a platform where everyone can play the same game. Regardless of age athletic ability and previous experience of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Bowling Research Paper Tommy Fancher Mr. O'Brien Novel and Drama 19 December 2014 "Ten Pin" Bowling, whether competitive or recreational, everyone has the same goal, knock down all 10 pins. Many people consider bowling to be a simple sport but actually there is a lot of strategy and skill to the game. There are many rules that come with the sport, and they have changed quite a lot over the years. Bowling has been traced all the way back to the Ancient Egyptians and the basis of the sport has always been the same throw an object down a "Lane" and knock "Pins" or objects down. The game has evolved so much since then and two major ones were the automatic pin setter and automatic score keeper. In today's modern society the equipment used is so far technologically advanced, it makes for an intense sport. Bowling is a great sport due to the fact that it caddy's to a...show more content... A British anthropologist, Sir Flinders Petrie, discovered objects in a child's grave in Egypt that appeared to be some form of bowling materials.(Bowling Hall of Fame) The ancient Egyptians used to roll stones at objects and try to knock them over.(Hamilton) Bowling was such a popular game throughout history and it was a very enjoyable activity. King Edward III outlawed the game in order to focus on archery practice. (Bowling Hall of Fame) The English, Dutch, and German settlers all had their own variations of bowling and brought it to America. The earliest mention of the sport in American literature is by Washington Irving when Rip Van Winkle awakens to the sound of "crashing ninepins". (Bowling Hall of Fame) However bowling had some issues back in the 1800s when Connecticut law made it illegal to maintain "ninepin lanes" only due to the fact that it was a big gambling sport. (Bowling Hall of Fame) It is uncertain where today's bowling of "Ten Pin" came about but before that there were many different forms of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Specific Purpose: I want my audience to know how they can improve their bowling scores the next time they go out on a Friday night. Organizational Pattern: Informative Introduction I. Attention–Getting Device: How many of you guys think that you are the world's worst bowler? I bet you didn't know that the lowest game ever bowled by a man on ABC men's league is two. Mike Kappa, of Racine, Wisconsin, accomplished his outrageous score by throwing 18 gutter balls. However Richard Caplette, of Danielson, Connecticut, who threw nineteen in one game, holds the record for the most gutter balls. II. Orientation Phase A. 1. A bowler should start at the foul line and go through the four–step approach as if they had a bowling ball and were getting ready to throw it at the pins. Where the bowler stops after their four steps that is the place where they should start when the game starts and they are getting ready to throw the ball. B. The next thing the bowler should do is find a mark. A place on the lane in which they intend to throw the ball. 1. After a bowler has found a mark then the bowler can adjust the placement of their feet in order to get the bowling ball to hit the pocket and get a strike.
  • 5. Transition: Finally I would like to tell you about some games that can help you improve your bowling games and add a little fun and competition with you and your friends. III. Now that I have explained the equipment and some basic fundamentals, I am going to tell you about a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Analysis Of A Bowling Essay Bowling There are a lot of steps for bowling. The very first step is to find your weight of the bowling ball and your shoe size. When you start bowling every person is different on where they need to stand at and how far back or how far forward. By the time you bowl for a while you will find out on where you need to stand. I stand on the left by the second dot and throw my ball on the second arrow on the right. People that bowl with straight balls stand in the middle and just throw it down the lane. When I first started bowling I just threw a ball down the lane. But now I throw a curveball that comes back inside. So what that all means I can stand on the left and throw it on the right side of the lane and if the timing is all right it will come back and it will come right into the pocket. I'm sure all of you guys are wondering what the pocket means and what it means is...show more content... A straight ball is where the ball stays in one spot of doesn't move at all unless the lanes are really dry then it will hook. A curve ball moves no matter what and if the lanes are dry the curve ball will hook extremely. So that is the difference between the two different types of bowling balls. The object of bowling is to knock down as many pins as possible. For High School bowling you bowl two individuals games and the five bakers. The most common baker style is to be the 5 person format where bowler 1 bowls frames 1 and 6, bowler 2 bowls frames 2 and 7, bowler 3 bowls frames 3 and 8, bowler 4 bowls frames 4 and 9 and bowler 5 bowls frames 5 and 10. The order is set at the beginning of the match but can be changed after the completion of each game. So these are the pretty basic steps I do when I bowl. And you guys may think bowling is a hard sport to be good at but it just takes time. It took me like three years to get pretty good at it. It's a pretty competitive sport if you bowl the right Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Research Paper On Bowling Many discover what their talents are. Whether it was when they were a child, teenager, or even an adult. People found out at different times. Someone may be lost or do not find it at the right moment. But once they discover, it is a feeling of satisfaction or simply a feeling of realizing they are good at something. Once they find out, their life can possibly get better. I was once hopeless and did not have a goal in life. I was not sure what I would be doing in high school. Then I discovered I was pretty good at bowling. Today, I will be talking about how I got into bowling, what I did with my talent, and how I learned to be a better person through bowling and the satisfaction of knowing my talent. There are certain ways you can discover your talent. Whether it is in a strange way or even an obvious way. One day, me and my friends were going bowling on a Saturday night. I was wondering how you can curve a bowling ball. I decided to just use two fingers in the bowling and throw it with a quarter turn of the ball to curve. I realized I could be accurate and consistent every time I threw my bowling ball. It got to the point where I could do something with this talent so I found out my high school had a bowling team. Kapaun Mt. Carmel, the high school I attended, had a bowling team and it was the perfect opportunity to showcase my...show more content... Bowling has definitely taught me very much ever since I discovered my talent. I have gain respect for those who bowl regularly in leagues and take the sport to heart. It has helped me with the stress I was dealing with in school and family. Bowling is where I relieved my stress and performed my hardest. I have managed to gain notoriety within the Wichita bowling community. Satisfaction is where it kicked in and I definitely realized other people's recognition of my talent. For once in my life, I felt proud of myself. Patience pays off when you discover Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. How To Write A Persuasive Bowling Essay When you were ever bowling have you ever thought to yourself that maybe if you keep in mind of friction, acceleration, or mass. You would be a better player and have a better performance and maybe have a perfect game? If you ever learned about Newton's 2nd Law then you know it fits perfectly with bowling. If you execute it to bowling you may get a strike every time, but there's some science behind it. Let's talk about how acceleration is important. If you use a little bit of acceleration then you would barely hit any pins, but use too much acceleration then the bowling ball would go to fast and zip past the pins barely knocking down pins, and not creating that cause and effect when pins knock down each other. The cause and effect is very Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Physics Of Bowling Kyle Yatsonsky Dr. Croom Physics 30 May 2015 The Physics of Bowling Bowling is a fun filled pastime with a lot more to it than what meets the eye. Some of the concepts involved are energy, momentum, forces, velocity, acceleration, and center of mass. The ultimate goal of a bowler is to knock down as many pins as he can. To successfully do this, a bowler needs to first consider the trajectory in which his ball travels down the lane. Energy is a system's "ability to do work."(Elert) The unit for energy is joules. Some other characteristics of energy are that it takes numerous forms and that it is a scalar quantity.(Elert) The two types of energy are kinetic energy and potential energy. Kinetic energy refers to an object's motion. This differs...show more content... The greater angle optimizes the number of pins that the ball will knock down. The way that the bowler controls this is in the manner in which he grasps the ball. It is dependent on the position that the bowler places his fingers and thumb. Rotational velocity is the main feature. The importance of rotational velocity is from the precession it provides the ball with. Precession "is the change in direction of the bowling balls spin vector... over time" ( Physics Of Bowling.) Increasing precession leads to the domino effect. That is increasing amount of friction on the ball, so the hook that the ball strikes the pins is also greater. By default there is a greater angle for the bowling Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Physics Of Bowling Essay Physics Of Bowling The one thing that interests me is bowling. I have been playing all my life and after a whole semester and a half of being in Mr. Fetter's class, I realized that everything has physics in it. One night after going bowling with my girlfriend(s) I wondered why when I hit the first pin, only seven went down and thus I lost the game. So, I got on the Internet and found a lot of articles and web sites talking about the physics of bowling. A lot of the web sites were brief descriptions. A guy named Paul Durbin wrote many articles on physics. One of his articles he discussed was about bowling. He mentioned one thing we already went over this semester in physics class. But it seems to me that he neglected to mention other...show more content... You may let go of the bowling ball at a constant speed, but its velocity is not constant because of the change in direction every instant. The ball's state of motion is changing. It's accelerating! Now you can see why it is important to know the difference between speed and velocity, and whyacceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity, rather than speed. Acceleration is like velocity, its directional. If you were to change your arms speed or direction, or even both, you change velocity and you accelerate. Just remember acceleration = change of velocity/time interval. The one thing that's cool about pool is that wooden alley that's always shiny. The alley is made out of fine wood and is usually shined up. The alley seems to be the friction that slows a ball down. Even when a single force is applied to an object, it is usually not the only force affecting the motion. This is because of friction. Friction is a force that always acts in a direction to oppose motion. When you let go of the ball one way, the air resistance is coming the opposite direction. Let go of the bowling ball and you can see it in motion. If an object moves, the by virtue of that motion it is capable of doing work. It has energy in motion, or kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of an object depends on the mass of the object as well as its speed. KE = ВЅmvВІ. When you let go of that bowling ball, you do work on it to give it speed to get that nice rotation. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Bowling Alone Summary Robert Putnam's basic thesis is that there is a decline in civic engagement in urban cities. He goes on to explore different probable factors that are causing the decline in civic engagement. First off, he dichotomizes civic engagement into two categories: machers and schmoozers. Machers and schmoozers are people who engage in formal kinds of civic engagement (following politics) and informal kinds of civic engagement (hanging out with friends) respectively. Civic engagement, overall, is on the decline according to Putnam (informal activities in particular, however, are ones that Americans, on average engage in more often). This decline applies to cities because of certain urban characteristics. The city, because of our...show more content... This relates to Putnam because he theorizes that mobility and sprawl of people can contribute to social capital's decline. However, people that are a minority (not stereotypically middle–class and white) may choose to stay within where they feel they belong. In fact, civic disengagement is liable to happen not only by moving too much, but by its exact opposite, by staying at a place way too long. It seems that any extreme of mobility or remaining can have both detrimental effects to social capital. Also, there was mention of two people of two different races, where a white person donated a kidney to a black person in Putnam's book. Residential segregation could conceivably have not made such an intimate connection between two races possible and so Putnam may need to consider the various reasons people stay with their own kind aside from a patriotic feeling so that he can come up with solutions to our waning civic engagement. Evidence Assessment Is there social capital present from an urban life? In some instances, it is present and absent in others, so what is the so–called "big picture" regarding whether or not it is present or absent overall? For evidence of the increasing presence of social capital, I will use as evidence my own personal experiences and observations. From my experience, city life can only alienate you if you let it. Putnam may be quick to blame electronic media for giving us excuses to decline social capital, or he Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Myself and a few other friends were at the bowling alley in Glenwood Iowa, for no specific reason, just to have a good time with each other. It was the middle of summer and who knew this was going to be one of the scariest nights of our lives. "It's your turn to bowl!" Alyx exclaimed to me. Everytime I go up to bowl I wait for the same ball to come out of the ball shoot every single time, it's bright red and only has 3 little holes for my fingers to go into. As I went up to bowl, I grabbed my lucky ball and rolled it down the path like a slippery snake, STRIKE! Right after I had gotten my strike, the bowling alley got a telephone call saying there was a shooting nearby in town. Everyone got a little panicked, but we continued with our fun night of bowling. Kamryn, Kennedy and Tommy all bowled and got their scores. It was starting to get darker outside when all of a sudden we heard gunshots outside of the building, just as loud as when you hear an airplane taking off. The gunshots were one right after another, 4 in a row. *boom boom boom boom* they went in the air. Everyone went to look outside and all of a sudden a dark shadow wearing all black clothes was starting to walk up to the door, it was still about 100 feet away, but it was getting closer, and fast. "Get into the bathroom, now!" The manager of the bowling alley told us with spark in his Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Have You Ever Went Bowling Have you ever went bowling before? This is relevant because bowling is a lot of fun. I will be explaining the first time I experienced bowling. When I experienced bowling, it looked like a lot of fun. I was with my dad and I decided to try it out. I never knew how to bowl. My dad bowls on a league and I always went with him to watch. I learned how to bowl by watching how the other people did. Now, I bowl for our highschool team. I also bowl on different leagues. I plan on going to college to bowl. When I first went to the bowling alley, it sounded like thunder when the ball hit the pins. Learning how to put curve on the ball was very hard to do. My dad helped me with it and once I got the hang of it, I started doing better. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Bowling Ethnography Heather Dooley 10 Pound Balls We tend to think that bowling is a very simple and boring sport played by only older men. I did my fieldwork at a bowling alley during two different leagues to explore the different social interactions among bowlers. I learned that bowling is not limited to one specific age group or gender. I also discovered there is a unique hierarchy among the bowlers that is not determined by their age or gender. This social status is dependent upon their bowling average, type of ball used, and the weight of their balls. I found there were many other social interactions that occurred between smaller groups of bowlers such as teammates. I first entered the field during a Wednesday night bowling league. The...show more content... Some men used them as a way to brag to the other men. They would say the reason another man is bowling so bad is because he has a bad, cheap ball. I also noticed the men bowlers would use the weight of their balls to poke fun at the other bowlers. They will compare their ball's weight to their manhood or manliness. For instance, "Wow, you're only using that little ten pound ball. Did you borrow that from your girlfriend?" "Careful carrying that big sixteen pound ball you might not be big enough for that yet." [pic] There are many different kinds of socialization among the bowlers. They joke and tease each other, give tips on how to bowl better and they also play card games with their teammates. There are two different types of games played among the different leagues. On Wednesday night they play a game called Kiddy Pot. This is a money game played by the men bowlers only that corresponds to how well you are playing. If you miss the five pin, throw a gutter ball, or miss the head pin twice you lose a dollar. If you are hung, which in bowling terms means four members of your team strike or split during the same frame but one does not, then the person who misses the strike loses two dollars. If all five members of the team strike during the frame, the next frame whoever misses the strike loses a dollar. At the end of the season all of the money lost playing this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Reflective Essay On Bowling Final Reflection I planned to go to indoor rock climbing for this recreation reflection, however I changed my plan to go to bowling place, because I took out two wisdom teeth this Wednesday. The dentist emphasized do not exercise, especially that requires tough movement, and if I have to do exercise then try to move little bit. Therefore, I chose bowling, which does not require big movement, and could enjoy with other people. I asked my family to play with me and we went to the Fountain Bowl, which is right next to the Mile Square Park. I played with my aunty, Lisa, and two friends, Lucy and Britney. Since we went to the bowling place after lunch time, there were not a lot of people, therefore we could get a bowling alley quickly. While Lucy went to the snack bar to get nachos, Aunty, Britney and I looked around to find bowling balls. After we found two 5 lbs and one 6 lbs, we changed our shoes to bowling shoes. Aunty and Britney used 5 lbs balls, and Lucy and I shared the 6 lbs ball. We typed our names on the monitor and started the game. The order was Lisa, Lucy, Jessica, and Britney. This was the first time that Lucy and I officially played bowling after we grew up, so I was kind of nervous. As far as I remember, I went to bowling place when I was little with my parents in Korea, and I threw the ball and rolled the ball with two hands. I learned the pose from my dad at house, but did not learned bowling professionally. However, my parents enjoyed bowling when I was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. bowling report Essay Bowling Report Bowling has a long and rich history, and today is one of the most popular sports in the world. A British anthropologist, Sir Flinders Petrie, discovered in the 1930's a collection of objects in a child's grave in Egypt that appeared to him to be used for a crude form of bowling. If he was correct, then bowling traces its ancestry to 3200 BC. A German historian, William Pehle, asserted that bowling began in his country about 300 AD. There is substantial evidence that a form of bowling was in vogue in England in 1366, when King Edward III allegedly outlawed it to keep his troops focused on archery practice. And it is almost certain that bowling was popular during the reign of Henry VIII. By this time, too, there were...show more content... Soon standardization would be established, and major national competitions could be held. While women had been bowling in the latter half of the nineteenth century, the American Bowling Congress was for men. It was in 1917 that the Women's International Bowling Congress was born in St. Louis. Encouraged by proprietor Dennis Sweeney, women leaders from around the country participating in a tournament decided to form what was then called the Women's National Bowling Association. Bowling technology took a big step forward about the same time. Balls used to be primarily lignum vitae, a very hard wood. But in 1905 the first rubber ball, the "Evertrue" was introduced, and in 1914 the Brunswick Corporation successfully promoted the Mineralite ball, touting its "mysterious rubber compound". Now organized, with agreed upon standards, the game grew in popularity. In 1951 another technological breakthrough set the stage for massive growth. American Machine and Foundry Company (AMF, then a maker of machinery for the bakery, tobacco and apparel businesses) purchased the patents to Gottfried Schmidt's automatic pinspotter, and by late 1952 production model pinspotters were introduced. No longer did a proprietor have to rely on "pinboys". Television embraced bowling in the 1950's, and the game's popularity grew exponentially. NBC's broadcast of "Championship

  • 18. Bowling Alley Research Paper I was practically raised in the bowling alley. Considering my mother started bowling around the time I was born, I was practically born into one. For as long as I can remember Friday nights were known as bowling night. Over the years 30 Lanes had become a second home to me. While I did attend other bowling alleys with my mom. Such as Leisure Lanes on Tuesday's, Miller Time on Wednesdays or Thursdays at the old Town & Country that burned down in '10. 30 Lanes is where I feel especially nostalgic. From the multiple diagonally spaced tables with their gray countertops, covered in multicolored bowling pins. To the uncomfortable lighter gray seats that surround them. And of course I can't forget the one big leather spinning chair at every table Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Descriptive Essay On Bowling Bowling is one of my favorite things to do every Saturday morning in a league . In the first few weeks I was bowling in a consistent way which means that you do the same every time. The weeks we do not bowl on are Holiday weekends because they want us to spend time with our family like on the Christmas, Easter, and etcetera holiday weekends. Bowling every saturday in Utica gives me something to do so i'm not bored at home like always because I can barely do anything on the weekend except for hangout with my friends after. We are halfway in the season already and we started the week after school started, and it's going by fast and i've been bowling good it's a success so far. My team has been holding up the past weeks and i'm surprised about it. My bowling style that I use when I bowl and what I do. I aim for the second arrow on the right like the pro bowlers. Some directions to hook, number one the pro bowlers look at the second arrow and aim for it and don't look at the pins. Number two they follow through and look at the wrist to see if they can improve and not get another mistake, and that's all I can think of. Some pro bowlers are Belmo(Jason Belmonte), Pete Weber, Wes Malott, and Norm Duke. Jason Belmonte is the only two hand bowler out of the ones I just mentioned. My team finished 4th place in the first half of the season and that's pretty good, and I got a medal for one of the top ten bowlers in my league, and top ten scorers with my highest game in leagues Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 21. Reflection Paper On Bowling I was embarrassed. We stood as a, STEM, group in Crest bowling lanes, with the CDC class, and I just threw the ball backwards as coach watched me. He only watched me due to how well I had been bowling in the previous games, I could tell he was scouting. Not only was he the bowling coach, but he was my sophomore algebra ii teacher. I remember my face growing red as he approached me. Then to add to the whole situation my friend got it on video. I tried to keep my cool, but I will never forget what he said to me after. He said, "Uhm sweetie, the lane is the opposite direction. Come find me when you figure that out, but if you cannot try and try again. You've got this." Although I was discouraged at that point his words, obviously, stuck with me. I recall finishing that field trip with a smile on my face and an average score of a one hundred and one, which made me laugh because it looked like "lol" (laugh out loud). This was only the start. Now, during my sophomore year of high school the theme of my STEM project was bowling. After the initial introductory field trip I was hooked, better yet I was inspired. Bowling called to me like never before, I learned the science to it. Not only did I researched the mechanics of physically bowling, but the manufacturing of the ball itself. Throughout my research that the type of ball used to bowl, aside from recreational bowling, depended on the bowling style of the bowler. Now, a house ball could be used to bowl regardless, but if a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
