1. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
2. The Beginning…
When I began my AS media course, I had absolutely no video
editing skills whatsoever. I distinctly recall struggling with the very
first assignment, which involved shooting a conversation scene.
Most of my time was consumed with figuring out how to use a
camera, as it was entirely new to me.
Despite my lack of technical skills, I had a clear vision of what I
aimed to create and what kind of film would resonate with my
target audience.
3. More Shots… Better Quality
For my opening sequence, I opted to do a complete reshoot following the 'official'
shoot. I was fortunate enough to have a cooperative cast who graciously allowed me to
capture multiple shots of each scene, enabling me to select the best footage during the
editing process. Initially, I had been a 'one take, final take' type of person and hadn't
given much thought to reshoots. However, for this particular opening sequence, I was
committed to producing high-quality media.
On the day of the reshoot, my cast and I gave it our all, paying attention to our outfits,
acting, and lighting. As the first scene was a daytime shoot, we relied on natural lighting
to achieve the desired effect.
4. Editing Style
At the beginning of my term, my editing style was quite basic and uncomplicated. It lacked any
secondary effects or motion. As you can observe from my previous projects on the 'Assignment' page,
all my group ever did was compile shots and trim any excess footage.
However, for my latest project, specifically the opening sequence, I went above and beyond my
previous editing style. I experimented with various effects and color grading techniques to enhance the
visual appeal of my clips. Additionally, I also had the opportunity to practice my skills and knowledge.
One of the evident improvements in my editing skills is the use of audio to create suspense, which is
particularly evident in my latest project. Furthermore, I incorporated fast motion clips at the beginning
of my sequence, which added a dynamic element to the final product. Finally, I ensured that the audio I
used was perfectly synced with the visual footage.
Overall, I have made significant strides in improving my editing skills, and I am confident that these
improvements will be apparent in my future projects.
5. Final Notes
The journey from the inception of "The Perfect Crime" to its completion was truly
remarkable. From having a mere imagination to actually materializing it into a tangible
project, I was thoroughly impressed with the outcome.
My main objective with this film was to captivate and engage my audience, keeping
them on the edge of their seats throughout the entire screening. I am confident that I
have succeeded in achieving this goal.
Through the entire process of researching, filming, and editing, I have learned a great
deal, which will undoubtedly aid me in my future endeavors.
