First of all we are extremely grateful to you while you are reading my report about the
specification of cleaning the entire areas of the mall.
This report has been compiled to simplify practical procedures and approaches employed in
custodial operations and maintenance. Its primary function is to assist and to promote safe
working techniques which have been already tried, and approved.
Safety Precautions:
Working in any high places the person should follow the safety rules and regulations.
Important Rules:
1. Always wear safety boots.
2. Use hand gloves if obligatory.
3. Make sure that you are using a proper and required tools
4. Never raise a hose-pipe at anyone.
5. Let someone to hold the ladder on working at high places.
Note: To avoid injury or even death all safety precautions must be applied on using machinery
or sharp tools.
Advantage: This information's are for our protection which can save your life. In order to
need any guidance or help so we should not hesitate to consult with safety manager.
Public Liabilities: If any person have a cut or sore in contact with the chemicals he must
protect them because of poisoning by absorption.
a. Any kind of injury needs a proper medical dressing.
b. We should use Ribbon barrel on affected areas for public safety during operation.
Chemical Splashed: If accidentally chemical splashed on any part of the body then,
1. Immediately remove the affected clothing and wash the entire area with the water.
2. Always keep the janitorial trolley away from the public.
3. In case of major injury call or inform the safety manager.
Note: These types of cases should be handled by the duty manager.
Professionalism: The moral and efficiency of an employee is higher when he works in a
clean and sanitary office. He is motivated to work harder, given him prestige and recognition. In
addition, officer personnel have visitors throughout the day and in many instance the employee
as well as the company are judged by the appearance of the office.
The relationship between the custodian and the office personnel will be enhanced and there will
be great respect given to the custodian if he performs his work in the office well. Offices vary in
3. sizes, shapes and arrangement. But the procedure of cleaning an office is basically the same; the
time to complete the cleaning of an office varies depending on the above consideration.
Terminology of Custodian:
Abrasive Powder: A white powder used for scouring tile and sinks, sometime called
"Scouring Powder".
Bleaching Powder: A strong white powder deed to remove stain when ordinary scouring
methods are unsatisfactory.
Buffing Floors: The polishing of floors, usually done with a floor machine.
Damp Mopping: Damp mopping is a specialized ducting operation. It is the process of
dusting or cleaning by going over the floor with a damp mop using cleaning cold water the mop
is wrung dry before applying Rinsing of floors is not required.
Dolly: A platform on wheels used for transporting equipment and materials from one area to
another.
Frequency: To indicate how often the maintenance jobs are performed.
Scrubbing: Floors are scrubbed with a hand brush, deck Brush or power machine with an
application of a solution of detergent and water. Strength of solution normally 2½ to 4 ounces of
detergent per gallon of water is determined by condition of the floors, when cleaning floor in
close, small or congested areas. It is more practical to scrub floor with a wet mop.
Stripping Floors: The removing the all old floor way from a floor in preparation to apply
new way. This is done by scrubbing using hot water and stripping solution carry out the
directions on the container and rinse with a not water.
Varied Duties: Varied duties consist of doing certain jobs as occasion demand, and for which
no set time nor can schedule be made.
Scrubber Machines: Should be clean and free of dirt and scum, empty the machine and
removed the dirt, rinse, tanks of machine after using. At the end of shift and wash upon
complexion of use drain and duty exterior brushes should be removed.
Floors Quality Standard:
Build up: There should not be a buildup of wax in the floor area. Any buildup of wax of any
amount on the floor must be identified and rated as an unacceptable area.
Black marks: Floor should be free of marks and stains at all times.
Spots: There should not be excessive spots, scratches, or scuffs present in any area, but
especially not in traffic area.
Gloss: Where not carpeted, the floor should have a visible, overall shine with few dull areas. The
shine should have an appearance of being on top of the floor, not in the floor.
Color: The original color of the floor should not be tinted darker throughout the complete area.
Carpets: Carpets should be free of surface dirt, lint, and any loose items such as matchsticks.
Toilets Males & Females:
Urinals: There should be neither spots nor stains neither on the bowl nor under the lid. Pipes
should be free of spots, stains, and rust. The chrome should shine.
Sinks: The bowl should be free of spots, stains or rust. Pipes should be free of spots, stains, and
rust. The Chrome should shine.
4. Commodes: There should be neither spots nor stains on the top and bottom of seat, inside and
outside of bowl, including under the lid or on the tank. The pipes should be free of rust, spots, or
stains. The chrome should shine.
Mirrors: There should be neither spots nor streaks present on surface of the mirrors. Edges
should be free of dust.
Dispensers: Should be adequately filled, the chrome should shine.
Partitions: These should be free of spots, dust, and streaks on all surface and edges.
Disposals: Should be clean and empty. The chrome should shine.
Foot Washing: Should be clean and free of all debris.
Miscellaneous:
Stairways: The flight of stairs should be free of dust, soil and spots. The railing should be free of
dust and grease.
Entrance: The Entrance to the building should have floors, glass, and general cleaning in such
condition as has been established in standards given above.
Light: Fixtures should be free of obvious dust and soil. They should meet minimum candle-
power requirements.
Moving Walkways: Should be free of dirt, spilled liquids, gum, etc. the stainless steel hand rail,
guiding sidewalls and end plate should be clean and dust free. Moving hand hold should be clean
and dust free.
Walls: The areas around doors, switches, and chairs should be free of soil and spots.
Windows: Free of spots, streaks, smears.
General Cleaning:
High dusting: Surfaces above six feet should be free of dust.
Dust mopping or sweeping: Floor areas, including under obstruction and in corners, should be
free of surface soil, lint and miscellaneous items such as paper clips.
Ash Trays: Ash trays should be empty and free of stains.
Waste baskets: Baskets should be empty and free of excessive stains.
General dusting: Items such as desks, files, chairs, tables and interior glass should be free of
dust and spots.
